Best sandwich shop in Monterey hands down. The owner has always been very helpful and kind.Been coming here for the past three years and have never had a bad sandwich or experience with them and I go in pretty consistently. The brucetta chicken and Philly cheesesteak are my favorites I consistently crave them. The vibe in the restaurant is amazing too lots of locally made goodie's for sale and some old school videos game consoles. Cutest family owned sandwich shop ever hands down. read more

Warmly greeted by father and son duo. What a cool and pleasant surprise. Not sure the kids age but good for him for helping out at the store. He worked with professionalism and proper service. I can always respect a good father and this was evident here. We ordered a selection of sandwiches. Loved mine. It was the cape cod turkey. Cranberry mayo was different but totally worked. Loved the sprouts that filled the sandwich. In the store is not only some fun arcade machines, but a lot of local artwork and merchandise. All very cool stuff. Loved local supporting local! Come check this place out. read more

Went at around 10:50 am on a weekend morning. Door was open and we walked in to pick up some sandwiches. Place was empty, so we asked the owner if they were serving food yet. Owner said not until 11 am. We asked if we could look at the menus until then. He said "I guess my boundaries don't mean anything to you." That was enough for us to leave. We re-affirmed that we only wanted to look at the menus. Owner said "There's a menu on the window." Needless to say, we did not eat here. Fortunately, we went to another cafe across the street where not only was the food AMAZING but we felt welcomed by the friendly owner and staff. read more

This place is tucked away in the corner and hidden pretty well. Really good sandwiches, probably the best spot in Marina! You will not be disappointed, place is awesome! read more

While driving on a trip through Marina, my experience with Marcus the owner, was poor. Marcus was rude, grimaced the entire time and acted like I was an inconvenience. Marcus's man-child responses to legitimate customer reviews are petty and completely unnecessary. read more

I was looking for a sandwich shop in the area, and this place caught my attention so we decided to try it. We tried their turkey club and I believe grinder sandwich. Both were good, but we were not necessarily impressed. The staff were very friendly, the shop is super cute with plenty of seating and parking available. We were unfortunately not huge fans of the taste, but I think they might still be worth a try since everyone has different taste buds!!:) read more

Good sandwiches. Cute shop with locally made merch. Definitely takes a bit of time, but worth the wait.

Best deli around. The cap cod sandwich is bomb, turkey, Brie, red onion, sprouts and cran-mayonnaise-perfect every time. The ban mi is rich and delicious. The grinder is a quintessential sub piled with meats on a fresh roll. But the pastrami's the best I've ever had, they must smoke it themselves and it should be the gold standard for all pastrami. Simply served on a roll with a pickle you can't go wrong! read more

This place is so good. I honestly think it's better than the sandwich shop and Pacific Grove. This place has the best sandwiches that I've tried in the area and I'm a local. Definitely will be coming back. Plus they have a lot of cool little trinkets to buy. read more

Friendly service. Great selection. No frills solid sandwich with super soft sliced sourdough. Easy parking too.

The pastrami sandwich was good, I ordered extra meat. Neat couple walls with local artists and good music was playing which were two attractions. Old school arcade games brought me back, that was rad. The only thing is I wish they had a coffee option, however their hours 10-5pm I understand might not get many hot coffee drinkers. I will definitely go back. read more

Just like the name, this place is 100 percent Local--and who doesn't want to support that? Highlighting local artisans and their goods inside, the decor is a little mismatched but works giving LOCAL a comfortable corner vibe. I ordered the Reuben and was absolutely impressed. Made to order. Made with love. I found myself enjoying the food more because I know I was supporting my neighbor. Portion sizes are pretty large so don't worry about leaving hungry. Only negative I would say is that some of the non-traditional sandwiches can be a bit of a miss. The take on Banh Mi isn't quite hitting the Vietnamese mark for me--but that may be from the fact that I prefer my mom's. If you want to experience solid food and support local, this is the place to go. read more

I called to make and order and told me that the limit was 10 because he wasn't given a 24 hour notice. I then called back asking if I could place an order for 8 but told me that I should get a hint and "GO F MYSELF REAL HARD" even though we never discussed a time. I was trying to be chill with the owner but he just hung up and did the same thing for my buddy. read more

What we ordered: Bruschetta chicken, chipotle chicken wrap Both were SO GOOD, but the bruschetta chicken sandwich that my BF got was INCREDIBLE. I will have dreams about this sandwich. The fresh arugula, tomatoes, paired with the grilled chicken, feta and pesto mayo on a brioche bun... I mean, everything just worked harmoniously together. Do yourself a favor and visit this local place out! And while you wait for your sandwich take a look at all the local artisans featured on their wall -- and support if you can! read more

BFF and I popped by today and it was not busy - 1 customer ahead of us. Marcus was making their sandwiches but greeted us upon entering and answered our questions. When I couldn't decide between the cold and hot Italian, he recommended the hot. I'm so glad he did because it was perfect! We ended up with that and the Reuben. Also had the macaroni salad and "Mom's Potato Salad." Not sure whose mom made it but it was perfect! Not too saucy, skin-on potatoes, red onions, celery, pickles...so darn yummy - a perfect potato salad! Definitely will be back to work our way down the menu and to chat up Marcus more. I'm not at all understanding the reviews of Marcus being rude or racist - my lunch partner is non-white and we received friendly service with a smile and did not at all get that vibe. Thanks for the great sammies and sides - had the kettle chips and beverages as well. Will definitely be back again and will support the local artists whose goods are for sale next time as well! read more

You know the sandwich is gonna be good when you see the cheese and meat in its own block. Sandwich for breakfast, lunch and dinner, yes. I've been here a couple of times and it never disappoints. I'm a Ruben type of girl but this most recent time, ordered cape cod. Who doesn't love the taste of Brie.... in a sandwich!? They put a hefty amount of meat in your sandwich which is awesome, I personally couldn't finish the other half of my sandwich. The owner really cares about putting locals first. Look at the local vendors showcasing their work on the shelfs. I can go on and on but honestly just try the sandwiches and let me know what you think Two thumbs way up read more

we love Local! it's our favorite sandwich shop and just one of our favorite places to eat in general in the area. We frequent the spot at least a few times a month, get the same order every time (meatball sub and chicken ban mih) and they're delicious. we love that it's family owned and operated, the owner is a really nice guy and I believe works almost every single day as the sole cook and cashier. He also has local artists and creators display and sell their work through the shop which supports the community as well. I definitely think the shop deserves more hype and attention because it's really a gem. read more

Delicious sandwiches here and great VIBES! We needed a quick bite before a graduation ceremony and this place was open on a Saturday before 11. Great selection of sandwiches, true deli counter with meats sliced fresh to order. I saw they had a Cubano and had to try it! Omg it was so good! Perfect amount of cheese and meat-loved it! Tried out a new brand of chips. They also have a nice selection of locally made art and crafts. Very cool place! Friendly greeting when we walked in and great service. read more

I had seen this place on yelp the last time that I worked in the area. We had the time and hunger today to make it a point to stop by. Located in a small shopping center, there is tons of parking. It's in the corner near the liquor store and busy ice cream parlor. The inside is simple and old school. They even have a neo geo arcade system, major cool nostalgic points for that! I was torn between the brisket and tri tip but the gentleman told me that the tri tip wasn't ready so brisket it was. Pretty good and fresh. The bread was really good and sandwich came out in decent time. I went to the liquor store for a soda and chips. They have beverages in this establishment but single cans and juices. Inside the store is a lot of local art and products to buy like honey or jam. It seems like a staple in the community where a lot of regulars come. The service was really good too for there only being one guy running the show. Very friendly and full of good energy with banter. I left here feeling better that I got good food and service while supporting a small business. If im in the area again for work, I'll be sure to try something else on the menu. They actually had a daily special that I saw after I got my food. It sounded like a better choice but there's always next time. read more

My wife got a Ruben and she said it was one of the best she has ever had. I love that there is local products on the wall, great idea.

Walked and asked the owner if he had beer. He said no so I asked him if I could go next door and buy it and drink it with my sandwich. He said ok. I had stand in line behind five people buying lottery tickets. I came back and the owner said you can't drink that in here. I said I just asked you if I could, and he said I'm going to get fined over you. I then said I just spent 20 minutes buying this beer. He then proceeded to call me a cunt. I told him to fuck off and we left. As I headed to the door he threatened to lay me out. Nice experience read more

Local is the new name of the former Grinderz deli. It's an amazing local deli that serves freshly made sandwiches and meals. Marcus the owner and Maya the manager are both super friendly and invested in their customers and the local community. My husband loves the Schnitzel and I love the Crispy Chicken Sandwich. The Crispy Chicken sandwich has the perfect alignment of spice with the crunch of the breaded chicken and the perfect compliment of the soft bread that it's served on. It is 10/10 my favorite sandwich ever! The Schnitzel is fresh, perfectly breaded and tastes just like the schnitzel that we have got in Germany! I highly recommend stopping in the business, meeting the staff and trying their amazing food! read more

We got the Reuben and buffalo ranch crispy chicken sandwich. Both were absolutely delicious, and the service was very friendly! Had a damn good Reuben sandwich here. And I can't stop thinking about it. I will be back!

This place is a perfect afternoon spot! Not far from the overly priced Sanctuary resort, this place is an excellent reprieve from overpriced food. The sandwiches are huge and really tasty! The store itself is friendly and supports several local artists and creators. This place is welcoming, fun, and has a hometown vibe to it. I highly recommend this spot for some sandwiches to go to the beach, or just a nice pop in lunch with some friends. Excellent place for folks out of town or a homey local haunt! read more

Such a cute sandwich shop! I had the bruschetta chicken sandwich and it was absolutely delicious. The bread was perfectly soft and fresh, and the blend of flavors--juicy chicken, fresh tomato, and just the right touch of seasoning--worked so well together. Every bite was chef's kiss! My boyfriend had the tri-tip sandwich and loved it too. The bread was just as soft, and the meat was tender, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. On top of the amazing food, the staff was super friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area--this place is a gem! read more

Stopped by yet again to see an empty place, that's yet again closed, during the posted business hours. The blowhard owner of this place likes to be rude to guests insisting they can't read the sign that says the hours , yet this shithole is never open. Do us locals all a favor and sell this place on someone with a brain. Looking at the most recent reviews, looks like I'm not the only one feeling this way Great job Marcus!!! First of all let me say that the owner and wife and son are just super people. Next the food is to die for. I took a friend yesterday because she kept hearing me rave about the huge cheeseburger. I had the Philly Cheese Steak. The salads are very good, I loved the red potato salad. The place is super clean. My son knows all the good places to go and took me here some months ago. Also they have wonderful things for sale. You really should go for lunch. Huge menu. Have fun and enjoy. Twice in one week. read more

I believe in supporting local businesses to the best of my ability. And this spot has excellent sandwiches. Best part, I can walk here from my apartment when my car is in the shop and I am craving hoagie. It had plenty of meat and a not to wet. They have kept a lot of the items from the german deli that was here previously which is nice. There is a check in offer on Yelp for 20% off purchase. Very nice. Quaint little shop in the corner of this very busy shopping center. I recommend parking in the back and walking through past the laundry to avoid the chaos of the place. The Jack in the Box on the corner always has a line for the drive through making it even more congested in the parking lot. And currently part of the lot is under construction. A huge part on the reservation side. Be careful, be safe, and eat local! Cheers, happp yelping. read more

Had the Cubano. Nothing Cubano about this sandwich. It was a greasy joke. What the hell was the ciabatta bread??? Greasy assed pulled pork that was oozing grease. Didn't recognize the Swiss cheese nor the pickles. Unfortunately I took it to go and got too far away to give it back to them. Very disappointing. I won't be back.
