Was traveling home from Orange County, caught in traffic when hunger set in. Yelped and found smash & dash and I read the reviews and told myself I got to try this place with some "bomb" burgers for myself. Ordered online and proceeded to the location. With got there and we didn't see any signage and thought where is my order? So, we pulled over and asked a kind gentleman who informed us that we were in the right place and that he was from Louisiana with his own place here (Okay Grill Then Soul Food). So, my wife went in (I had my foot in a cast) and she was able to find the button for smash & dash and picked up the order. It's the North County Food Hub, the first space on the left when you enter. Apparently, they not allowed to put out any signs to direct customers to their location. Getting back to the food. We had a predicament where my wife needed to use the bathroom, which there is none at the Hub. No eating areas also. It's all to go. So, we headed to a burger chain nearby for the bathroom. As I was waiting, I looked into the boxes of food and my mouth watered!!! The Smash Melt and Grilled Cheese was amazing!!! I took a bite of the Smash Melt and was delicious. The bread, which can get soggy, was not and I enjoyed the well seasoned smashed burger and onions. The waffle fries were a hit with me and my wife because it was crispy and also well seasoned!!! We couldn't stop eating it!!! Please support this small business as well as the other businesses there. My wife bought a bowl of gumbo from the gentleman that helped us with directions and we will definitely go back and try the other menu items too (like fried chicken and collard greens). On the way to a client meeting I stopped by to try this establishment and I must say I was surprised how good it was! I ordered the mushroom burger and waffle fries. The waffle fries were perfect! Crispy golden brown with soft inside, perfectly cooked! Good thickness and just delicious tasting. I had a side of the spicy sauce and it was very good as well, with some unique flavors. I would get both again! The mushroom burger was fantastic! Perfect smashed burgers with garlic sauteed mushrooms and I went for the white American cheese. The burger was the best I have had in a while! The portions we of good size, enough so my wife and I could have slit the burger and waffle fries and be satisfied. The drinks are grocery store cans of soda that cost $2.50/ea (get the combo and the can of soda is only a $1.) For the portions I got, I'm not that mad about it, but dropping $51 on two burgers and three fries, and 4 sauces is definitely not what I was expecting. Ambiance: Pretty lame, honestly. smash & dash is tucked away in a business park. You can eat your food on the sidewalk or at your car in the parking lot. This burger was HUGE! What a generous serving size, very filling and worth the price for how much you get in my opinion. The patties are very flavorful, very strong seasoning which I can see being too much for some - the patties tasted more like smashed sausage to me than just a pure beef patty so take note if that's a thing for you. I got the bacon bleu burger and it was super tasty- though I could only eat half in one sitting. I thought the cook was good - I personally like more crisp on the patty (it's why I come for a smash burger versus a regular burger with thicker juicy patties) and the sauce with the grilled onion and crispy bacon was icing on the cake, well done! I'm not usually an onion ring person but holy moly these onion rings are the best I've ever had - the onions are perfectly tender so you don't ever get that bite that pulls the whole onion out of the breading. The fries are crisp and well seasoned whether you get waffle or straight. Their ranch is clearly homemade and is the literal perfect dill ranch - everything i could ever ask for in a dipping sauce. The service was super convenient, I ordered online through the website (super easy) and scheduled a pickup time and it was ready on the spot. Two things though: 1. This location is so new that if you order online it will default to the SDSU location. So just give them a call and the OWNER picked up immediatley and said he's working to fix it and had the food made for me in oceanside!! Awesome guy. 2. The business is in an industrial park and the sign above the door says "north county food hub" so it's a tiny bit confusing. But once you're in you'll know it! Buns: Soft and chewy Fries: Opened the bag and saw fries overflowing from the containers. This was going to be heaven until I took my first bite of waffle fries. Crunchy, hard and lacked any potatoe texture in the middle. I couldn't finish them, and super salty. Even my toddler daughter said the fries are kind of hard. Secret sauce: flavorful and the heat sneaks up on you in the end. After finishing my meal it feels like I have a lump in my chest, my lips have that funny feeling when you eat too much salt, and I'm concerned about digestion. The previous reviews were great and maybe the way the food is cooked is for a target audience (large overcooked patties and fries) but it didn't leave me feeling satiate.
