We used Smart Air for a double AC replacement project. We hired Shane (the owner) because we found him to be friendly, knowledgeable, and very wiling to put up with and patiently answer my many questions. We also found their pricing to be competitive with several other quotes we received. It was impossible to compare apples to apples across quotes (different equipment manufacturers, sizes, features, rebate programs, etc), but I am confident their quote was among the best value per dollar. We went with a variable speed model, which is more pricey, but we have found it maintains a consistent temperature very quietly with less energy usage. While the ACs were up and running more or less within a work day, there were some additional details to iron out that took some time to get us eligible for the Austin Energy rebate. We were not charged outside of the quote for the additional work. As there were a few visits involved to get us rebate ready, we got to know some of the crew as well. We found all of them to be very pleasant and hard working. My wife was around for more of the visits and spent a fair amount of time with Ross and Matthew. She speaks particularly highly of them. To sum it up, for our double AC replacement project we found Smart Air to be an honest company with a knowledgeable owner and great people at a competitive price. It was a big project, and it did not go off without a hitch (what home project, big or small ever does?), but that is where the character of this company shined through. read more

I too was very leary in calling Smart Air as the reviews were too good to believe. Never-the-less, I called them on Monday January 7 to identify & fix our A/C unit blowing out cold air. I left a VM & within minutes I got a call back from Shane & I was told that Dave would be out at 10:00 am Tuesday. At 10:00 am on the dot Dave arrived & within 90 minutes our problem was identified & fixed. GREAT SERVICE. WOW ... EXCELLENT service, HONEST People and FAIR PRICING !!!! They actually repaired my unit for a very reasonable price (instead of pushing a sale of a brand new unit... like the other AC guys.) I totally recommend this company. They sent a very nice knowledgeable technician, Matt, who looked at the unit, reviewed it in detail, found the issue and let us know it could be repaired, gave us the options, and fixed it . He also cleaned up the unit and did a great thorough job. Withing a few hours of my phone call... in a hot summer day... my AC was working again . We are so pleased and positively impressed ! Let me tell you my story. Our Ac broke in a hot 97 degree summer day. I went to Home Advisor and filled out the form , An AC company came the following day . Unfortunately my experience was very bad mainly because the technician did not even really look for the problem... his interest was solely to sell a NEW AC unit... I asked him a few times what could be done to repair this one and he insisted we had to buy a new unit as he offered us financing . I became very frustrated with his attitude, so I told him I would think about it. As I "melted inside my home" I called a neighbor ... she recommended SMART AIR AUSTIN she told me she had a really good experience with them a few years ago and her unit has worked many years after the repair they made. I am so glad I heard her advice ! I called and they came the same day, reviewed the unit in detail, found the issue and repaired right away for a few hundred dollars ! These guys are experienced, on time and very professional. We've had a multitude of issues with our household system. Four different employees have come out in the last 6 months to assist with A/C breakdown, mold readings and subsequent dehumidifier installation. Excellent customer service and a quick fix in the August heat! A/C went out on Saturday morning, but I didn't realize it until I got home on Saturday afternoon. Called at about 6pm and by about 6pm the following day, Rigo had my 1998 A/C system up and running! This included having a parts supplier open on a Sunday so they could get the ancient part and install it. Rigo was professional, efficient, and willing to stand in my hall and answer all the questions I had! He carefully explained that the fix could only be temporary with such an old system and went over what he could do and what he could not guarantee. When he put the new fan motor in, Rigo noticed it seemed a bit loud. When I confirmed it was louder than it had been, they scheduled another service call for the next day, at no charge. Luckily, the new part settled in overnight and, by the next morning, the excess noise was gone. I'm going to have to get the system replaced (really, it's amazing it's lasted 21 years!) and Smart Air are definitely the front runner for that job! read more

It is so great to have someone who works on weekends in case you have an emergency! Just a life saver! My heater got broken on Saturday morning and it was 63F inside (50 something outside)! Not a good temperature especially if you have a little kid at home. The heater was fixed just in 2 hours after I made a call and left a voice message. Price for heater fixing was very reasonable. I was charged extra $125 for weekend service, but I did not care. I just wanted it to be fixed right away. Usually I call Mike Luckey (Lone star A/C), he is great as well, but he does not work on weekends. So I was very happy to find a nice company who does! Thanks. read more

Our AC died unceremoniously on a weeknight and when we called Shane at a quarter past 5, he immediately scheduled someone to come in first thing the next morning. The tech arrived for his appointment early (!) and was quick and thorough, finding the failure (shorted contactor), looking up the part cost for a replacement, and fixing it. In addition to that, I appreciate the little things like not walking across my house with muddied shoes (I've known some landscapers to do that), ensuring that the yard gates were shut after he opened them, and being very courteous the entire time. Solution: Shane returned our call promptly, gave us an option of a Sunday visit for time-and-a-half or a first thing Monday visit (we chose the latter), showed up on time, diagnosed our problem quickly, and fixed the issue within minutes. We didn't really comparison shop so I don't know if his rate is competitive, but we spent about $165 for the service and a brand new part, which seemed pretty fair. My AC wasn't working. So I called at 8am, and I had an appt set for 1pm that same day! They said he may be 30 min. late, because of scheduling with other appts, and I said fine. David came at right around that window. David was really friendly, diagnosed my problem in 2 minutes (busted capacitator), and had it fixed and billed in 30 minutes. Chatted with David some more and he gave me tips on AC maintenance and let me know what possible maintenance milestones I'd have ahead of me. A little pricey ($85 for the diagnostic, $105 for parts and labor), but for the reliability and friendliness, would do business again. read more

Smartair came through not an hour and a half after my call and our situation was resolved less than 2 hours after the call.... on a Sunday. At 6pm. My story is similar to so many other people here. Sunday afternoon and I finally admit to myself that the AC is not working property. Now, I have owned my home for all of 3 weeks so having a problem with my air conditioning was not something I was expecting to deal with so quickly. So I jumped on yelp and looked up some AC people. Other ones either didn't respond, weren't open, or couldn't come until Tuesday (this is Texas in August, 48 hours is like 48 weeks!) I reached out to Smart Air and they said that they would have someone out at 5:30. 5:28, Austin (their dispatcher) showed up. Not only was he able to diagnose what was wrong with my unit, but able to fix it in about 30 minutes. He was professional and knew what he was doing. Austin told me my AC would be working again immediately and the house would be cool by the night. I woke up this morning with my house a brisky 72! My reason for not giving them a full 5 stars is because I was not informed on the phone that there would be an after hours service charge. That is the one thing that I did not appreciate. Fantastic service from quote to scheduling to the actual work. Smart Air replaced a builder grade exhaust fan in our master bath with a larger, more quiet fan. I bought the fan (Panasonic Whisper Quiet) and Smart Air came out and did a free quote for installation within 24-48 hours. Quote was very reasonable and less than a few others. The original fan had a 3" vent, so they had to increase the vent size to meet the new fan dimensions (4" venting) and do some cutting out of the existing ceiling drywall. The work was excellent and they cleaned up their work and threw away all of the old materials. Shane reached out to me after the job and was very appreciative of using their services. I have not used them yet for AC/Heat related issues, but will definitely use them again! read more

I recently got my HVAC system completely replaced [despite efforts to salvage it] by Smart Air Service and could not be happier with the results and the work they did for me. Superstellar service began with Jeanie at the front desk who was able to almost instantaneously get a tech out to my apartment each time I called--- my HVAC system from about 10 years ago was beginning to fail and I admit I made a couple of ungodly early morning calls out of desperation which were immediately addressed, often before their business hours start. Justin and Omar initially came out to assess and were quickly able to pinpoint problems and escalate them to Shane [the owner] who handled finding a compatible unit and making all the arrangements for the install himself. The install crew was awesome and Chris [operations lead], Cliff, Frank, and Paul easily navigated all the twists and turns that arose from having very limited space to work with and stayed on the job after-hours to finish everything properly and clean up. I was really impressed with how well the team worked together and had full confidence in their knowledge, experience, and skills [as compared to other services that had been called in before to work on the HVAC, by the seller of this unit]. After the system replacement, I decided that I wanted the thermostat to have different options and they sent out a tech free of charge to program it the way I wanted. Getting a full system replacement always costs a pretty big hunk of cash, but Jessica from accounting was fully flexible with me and worked to help me afford the repair. Everyone at Smart Air that I worked with were wonderful people through and through and it made parting with such a huge chunk of cash much easier, as I felt I was supporting a great family run business that was solid on all fronts :) I have recommended them to several friends and requested our HOA property manager to add them to our recommended service vendors list. This company has worked to fix and now maintain our old HVAC system in a house we recently purchased. The previous owner allegedly had been having the system "serviced" by a hack job company for the past couple years, and Smart Air Service has come to the rescue and fixed all the problems that this previous company let develop over the years. I was thoroughly impressed with their Sales Team. After having 3 different HVAC companies we chose Smart Air hands down for their professional assessment , clear strategy for a replacement, transparency in price and responsiveness to follow up. The only negative remark is the 3rd party financing options were too strict/stringent even after getting co-signer with a 800+ credit score - we were still denied financing (we recently purchased a 10 yo home and the home warranty refused to replace the unit in 107+ degree weather). Even though we didn't get an installation with Smart Air, we will definitely consider them for our small business needs and professional needs in the near future. Our impressions and expectations have been elevated to such a degree that when dealing with other companies, I already know the competitors will lack the professional courtesy, competency and integrity we received from Smart Air. read more

I had Matt out at my house to do a Spring maintenance on my AC system. He is a great technician and so kind to my house and system. If you have time you should call them to schedule your maintenance too before it gets too hot! I talked to Jeanne in the office to schedule and she was super helpful. Also the very next day I received a detailed receipt thanking me for my business. This is my first house so all this maintenance stuff is new to me, so I'm glad I have a company I can trust. I got stellar same day service from Smart Air today. I got home from work around 6 to a house that was 92 degrees, and contacted Smart air and a few other companies who noted fast response times and longer than normal business hours. Jeanie from Smart air answered my call and while they're repair guy was at another job, they were able to fit me in for later in the evening. Jeanie was so sweet and even gave me a couple tips to try to see if i could resolve the issue of the outdoor unit not coming on. Matt arrived and was so kind, knowledgeable, and professional. He identified my issue immediately as being ants in my outdoor system which had ruined my contactor. Matt replaced the contactor, checked other things with the system out, tested my capacitors, and educated me about future bug prevention and cutting back plants around my unit. Im more than satisfied with my experience with Smart Air, and will be in touch with them soon as i am planning a remodel/addition to my home and want to replace duct work in attic. He called upon arrival and gave me the full run down of what is needed in kindergarden terms which I needed to know as a landlord from what to do to maintain the AC unit and the cause of the breakdown. He has been doing this for 14 years. He was so professional and guided me through the process. He knew about the parts and suggested a maintenance plan (which I didn't take right this second)... but..I am an out of state landlord and just called in off the web. She recognized that this needed more than basic service and expedited our appointment for the next day. Brian showed up on schedule, determined what the problem was, and was more than patient with my desire to check in with my father (a contractor for 40+ years) before agreeing to take any action -- he even spoke to him on the phone when my father requested it. We recently had a capacitor go out on one of two systems. I contacted our usual service provider,and is true to the last few reviews I had for them, I was told they would not come out. I contact. Smart Air Service, paid the emergency work fee which is a bit higher than their competitors, but received service within a few hours. The technician was professional, competent and courteous. I received advanced notification of who and when they would arrive and a detailed invoice and the service was complete. As a result, I will be switching to Smart Air for future requirements and leave behind the mediocre service that I had previously gotten from another agency in the area. read more

I highly recommend Smart Air Service. We called around the holidays for a last-minute servicing for our HVAC unit prior to selling our house and had wonderful, quick service. When our invoice came, it was for a bit more than anticipated, so I emailed and immediately received a response. The appointment was coded incorrectly as a reoccurring service versus a one-time service, which they were extremely apologetic for and refunded the difference. They also sent someone the next day to fix two items they had noted on the original call for no charge at all. It's so nice to have great people to help, especially when you're in a crunch! I cannot fault the repair itself. Matt was on time and did an effective job of the repair. My problem is with the price gouging. I paid an extra amount for the initial call because it was a holiday weekend, and I asked about that upfront and agreed to it. No problem there. What I objected to was that they charged me $250 for a capacitor! That's just for the part, not the labor. You can get them for under $50 at Home Depot. I talked to the owner about it, and he says it's a markup to cover all of their other costs. I'm a small business owner and I understand markup, but never would I mark something up 5 to 10 times it's value. That's just wrong. I felt completely taken advantage of because everyone knows you got to have air-conditioning in Texas. read more

I really liked Smart Air's service. They were prompt, friendly and efficient. They diagnosed my issue and resolved it to my satisfaction. But my one complaint, and it is a big one, is that they charge $300/hr for labor. The attorney who just did my will only charged $175/hr. I wish I could get her to take on A/C repairs. read more

We have battled with a non-functioning A/C for the last 2 days and when our agent is taking too long on responding, we decided to take it into our own hands to get it repaired ASAP. I went on Yelp and found Smart Air. My bf called on a Sunday and within a few hours, Matt G. came in person to diagnose. We really wanted the A/C fixed ASAP because the next day would be Labor Day. He gave us an estimate and told us that he was going to search for the fan blade if it was available locally and fortunately he did. We requested a new A/C estimate about 2 weeks ago. The home inspection went well, the representative was courteous, I was courteous, except I took off time from work to make it happen. To this day, I have not received a response. I tried emailing but no luck. Obviously, we received estimates from other vendors/dealers and have decided on one of them.
