This place rocks! Very good food, I had a tuna melt with fries and it's my top 3 best tuna melts. My friend got a número uno burger and he was satisfied. His fiancé had a patty melt and she was stuffed. All in all the food is great but part of this places charm is the furniture. It's got cool tables, comfy chairs, a fire pit, lots of plants and the SERVICE. Stefi has a great sense of humor plus she's extremely cute. Our meals were served hot and my beer was always cold. Really cool atmosphere, I felt like I was in some kind of fairy princess garden with all the plants (minus the fairy princess things). My boyfriend and I ate here recently and it was quite a nice surprise- we usually overlooked it but glad we did not this time! Food was great, staff was really chill. The lattes are H U GE !!!!! I have a big head and the cup was almost the size of it! Haha you can get great farm to table food and pressed juices for really good prices. I have never written a bad review, but this one deserves it. We went here for Sandwiches today as it used to be my husband's favorite many years ago. We went with our hungry 21 month old boy. When we got in and picked a table I asked one of the guys working there if they have high chairs. He just pointed to a corner and left. I went to the front and asked the lady at the cashier desk. She listed off multiple places around the restaurant where they may be. As I hadn't seen them anywhere that she listed, I asked her nicely if she could have someone at the restaurant find and get it for us. She gave me a blank rude look and just looked away to take someone else's order. After waiting at our table for a while, one of the workers came with a high chair that he found behind a curtain and handed it off to me mid air and just left. He didn't move any of the chairs or clutter for me to put it down. So here I am holding up a high chair mid-air that I can't put down because of all the chairs and tables squeezed together, and my husband can't help me as he is holding the child. We finally figure it out and get our son in it. It was probably the dirtiest and stickiest high chair we have ever used. Then we got our food, which was awful. The breads were dry, the ciabatta was nothing like a ciabatta. I have had better sandwiches form grocery stores like Ralphs or Vons. The fries were super salty. The kids menu was super super greasy. Since I hadn't brought food from home for my son, my husband had to run to the "local yolk" restaurant next door to get him something to eat. We ended up leaving the restaurant with most of the food untouched. The place is very dirty. There is a curtain by the bathroom where they keep high chairs and when I went to see if there is another cleaner high chair, it looked very dirty behind the curtain. There were plastic containers with empty used bottles in the corner of the restaurant. The bathroom was not very clean either. Overall, I would never come back here again. read more

I've been to Sloopy's several times for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and I have to say each experience has been fun and extremely pleasant. The service is always prompt and very friendly, and the food is great. You can't go wrong trying the whole menu. It's a homey, well-lit atmosphere right up the street from the beach, and they even feature live music on weekend nights. A great place to chill and eat in a relaxed garden atmosphere. Milkshakes are excellent, not too sweet. I really like the banana, expresso and pineapple shakes. Flowering teas are flavorful and definitely fit the setting. Chicken sandwich was pretty well seasoned and the fries had good crispiness. Another time, I had the mahi tacos, which were very fresh. The sweet things up front are all very good, especially the flourless chocolate cake. Pair it with a good bold cup of their Urth coffee. But it's not too cheap so remember to bring at least a $20 bill. read more

sloopy's is a farce. if you live in manhattan beach, most people will tell you that sloopy's is a great little restaurant, which is generally true. but if anyone, including the other reviewers on this site, tell you that the food is good, this is absolutely not true. the only way i can think to explain a positive review of sloopy's food is that people are literally fooled by the ambiance and the location. read the reviews. if you've just been surfing all morning and someone provides you with an open air patio, beautiful weather, and a beer, they can serve you slop and you will enjoy it...which is essentially what happens at sloopy's. other reviewers are correct that the restaurant's look is unique and interesting, with tons of natural light and an open air patio that benefits from great year-round weather. on the average day, the restaurant is filled with families and beach-goers. the vibe is very positive. the food is overpriced garbage. i've eaten at sloopy's many times, which may sound surprising given the negativity of this review. i guess the reason for this is because i refused to believe that a place that is so attractive and stays so busy had nothing to offer me. i've sampled a lot of their food. most recently, i had the huevos rancheros, which were horrible and looked and tasted like crap. everything i've eaten at sloopy's ranges from horrible to tolerable. you can buy a better chicken caesar wrap at the chevron down the street. this is not hyperbole, its the truth. if you like burgers, they aren't bad. i've heard the milkshakes are good, but who's ever had a bad milkshake? go to sloopy's for the ambiance. if you're interested in eating real food, check out local yolk next door or north end across the street. both are excellent. read more

Lived in the area for 6yrs. I use to love the place but recently, last 6-12 months, the service has just been horrible. Seems the young girls working the counter would rather joke and laugh instead of doing their job and keeping customers (ie Service...). good prices, good food, cool outdoor atmosphere and they deliver! some things are a miss like the california fried chicken sandwich. the chicken was spongey and seemed like the frozen cafeteria kind. but any of the grilled chicken is good (i guess that's why they charge more for it...cause it's real) Their burgers are delicious and i do like their breads and their fries. what would be even better would be an addition of sweet potato fries. my bf recommends the chicken scewers special which is a good deal as it comes with a salad and french fries. read more

I've been coming here all my life. The food is great, shakes and everything else. The lady who took my order on the other hand was not friendly whatsoever. I walked up to the counter and was not greeted with a smile or a hello and she was very quick to get me out of there. There was no line and she didn't even let me finish order before saying "Your total is..." Not only was she rude to me, but also to her fellow employees which everyone in the restaurant could tell. Nastiest food ever!!!!! I just actually spit my burger out, and I'll eat anything. I'm actually baffled at how gross it is...and I eat egg salad sandwiches from 7/11, I've been peer pressured into tasting dry dog food, and I've had food poisoning at ihop. I tell you again, I'm not a picky eater. I ordered mushroom cheese burger, fried calamari, "home style mac & cheese and side of Cole slaw. The only thing edible are the fries. I'm wondering now if the mushrooms are actually rancid, b/c the burger has a strange taste and smell, like putrid. The calamari tastes like I'm mouth-wrestling a rubber hose fried in wet sand. The Mac & cheese is not "home style" at all! It tastes like eating a bowl of balloon animals; inflated and bland. I'm so confused at how disgusting this food is. I feel bad bc I'm trying to support local restaurants, but I should've just spent my $40 at 7/11 on a sandwich and lottery tickets. I tried to call them, but I guess they closed early. I cannot imagine how anyone would eat here twice, unless something just spoiled in their fridge and they unknowingly kept cooking it. I have come to this restaurant in the past and I am appalled by the disgusting way the employees treated my husband and I. It's amazing to see such awful service. "Stephy" & "Charlotte" were beyond disrespectful and committed to to defending their inappropriate behavior. I've never been spoken to so rudely in my life. We came to order food and they instantly had a nasty attitude and were unwilling to accommodate or act decently when telling us after we had sat waiting at the table for a half hour that they couldn't do what they said they would. No respect & I am sad to see such ignorance and malicious behavior at a restaurant especially from the manager "Stephy". This place has clearly gone down the tubes. i had breakfast here based on a recommendation (and the $5 breakfast sign outside) and it just wasn't that good! in fact, i think i only ate about 1/3 of it because it was so bland/bad. maybe i ordered the wrong thing (eggs benedict) - or maybe breakfast isn't really their thing... but i didn't think the smoothie i got was that delicious either. very cute inside though. should have gone to north end or the local yolk instead. sorry, sloopy's! read more

I had a cheeseburger with a side of slaw during a recent visit here. The burger was charbroiled, which isn't the way I usually enjoy my burgers, but it was okay. The slaw was made with an Asian dressing and was better than others I've had. This is a unique place with kind of a pretty backyard setup for seating. Even though they just have an order counter, it still makes for a nice ambiance. However, the food is nothing special. Sloopy's is your run-of-the-mill neighborhood burger bar, but with a decent eating area. Parking seems like a pain though. read more

Ok....so it's probably my fault why I didn't fall head over heels in love with Sloopy's. Mostly because I ordered the BLT...which to my surpise, came on a wheat hamburger bun (untoasted)....way too bready. Whatever happened to the typical toasted sourdough bread? The french fries were good...nothing to scream about though. The decor is cute...outdoor patio with plants everywhere and a firepit. I wanted so badly to love this place...and I just liked it...I guess that I just wasn't crazy about my own personal food selection. I've long been a fan of Sloopy's, with its bizarre, yet endearing plants, lack of roof and curious driftwood tables. The food is inevitably tasty, and the decor is worth a trip. A fantastic choice with charismatic decor and incredibly friendly, helpful and honest waitperson (I don't remember her name, but she has lovely auburn hair and was wearing it in two braids the night we were there). My colleague and I both ordered sandwiches - his with a side of salad, mine with a side of slaw and then we got a side order of their homemade macaroni. The sandwiches were fantastic. And big, IMHO. My colleague ate his entire sandwich; half of mine came back with me. The macaroni was heavenly. Very rich and cheesy, but authenticly so...not a velveeta-type casserole whatsoever. This is the best macaroni I've ever had. Highly recommended (and even tastier as late night snack). Prices are reasonable, service was awesome, food was tasty (and have I told you about their mac & cheese? Oh. OK. Carry on.)...what more can you want. It's not a fancy place, but it's a great, casual place with super cool driftwood benches for you to sit on. Plus, even though it doesn't happen often here in L.A., it was very chilly (40s at night; 60s during day) and the restaurant had their completely spectacular fireplace lit...so cozy and such great food, it was a nice place to chill after we ate and just chat for a while. If it were earlier, we would have got some coffee since the choices looked so yum-num. Good restaurant and cool coffee house all in one. Yeah, you should totally go. read more

The atmosphere is nice but the food is only mediocre. We had omelets for brunch on a Saturday and the chicken was dry and they put processed sliced cheese in top of it instead of grated cheddar inside the omelet. The server let us know that she did not want to be at work that day which made us feel uncomfortable. The service was slow and it took us about 30 minutes to get our food even if the place was not very busy. We will not be going back. read more

I have passed by this place a million bajillion times, and stopped in for the first time today. I have to admit, I wasn't super excited to go because I wasn't really attracted to the decor, boy was I wrong. You order your food at the counter and take a seat at one of the natural edged wood tables under some pretty sketchy half open half skylight ceiling, it was very pretty though once you got inside. I had a mixed green salad with chicken. The chicken was really good quality, none of that rubbery frozen stuff, and was really nicely grilled. The lettuce for the salad was also really nice, it was a great mixture, not just romaine or iceburg. My friend had a burger with quacamole which looked really good and was nicely priced at $9, especially since it came with fries. My other friend had the california chicken sandwich, again really good, with pretty good fries. Their shakes sounded tempting, but I'll have to go back for that one. I also was intrigued by thier dinner specials, marsala chicken, salmon kebab, seafood risotto, and a 14 oz ribeye steak. It would be so nice to have dinner next to the fire pit. read more

I placed an order for delivery and after 20 minutes they called back to say they only deliver within 2 miles so they cancelled my order. There are multiple problems with this situation. I used to be a regular take-out customer, mostly for their Mother Nature Sandwich, Garlic Shrimp dinner, and Shrimp Tacos. Unfortunately, since they reopened and changed their menu, I will order from here much less frequently. First, the quality of the Mother Nature Sandwich has gone down. They changed some of the ingredients and it is now a plain pile of veggies with low quality cheese on a bland bun. Not worth the price. Second, they eliminated the two other dishes (both with shrimp) that were my staples. Third, the menu is much more limited. Haven't seen anything else on the menu that I want to try. Fourth, they drastically reduced the portion of the side fruit salad. For $7.00 I received half an orange, 2 strawberries cut up into slivers, 10 grapes cut in half, and a hand full of blueberries. Are you kidding me? I used to get half a sandwich container filled with fresh fruits. I can't comment on breakfast as I do not order breakfast from them. I guess I'll just go there for the shakes and pick up food elsewhere. Disappointed with the changes. You lost a "regular" from the neighborhood. read more

I've eaten at Sloopy's a couple times and the chicken club sandwich was good but I ordered a turkey burger the last time I went and it was pretty dry. And, the young lady taking the orders seemed very distracted for some reason. And then I had to take my order back because I asked for a wheat bun (I can't eat sesame seeds), no mayo and I saw her write it down but my turkey burger came out on a sesame seed bun with mayonnaise. And, she seemed a little perturbed when I took it back so I just wasn't feeling the love that day. read more
