Driving down PCH, I couldn't help but notice Sleepy Seal Coffee Shop. From the outside, it looks like a little house, and as fan of quaint, cute coffee shops, I knew I had to check it out. Fast forward two weeks later, I found myself back in the area and finally stopped by. I had checked out the menu beforehand and saw they offered a Coconut Pistachio Latte. However, the actual menu at the shop didn't list this drink. I asked the barista, and she was really sweet. She said she could make this drink for. At first sip, I could definitely taste the coconut. In fact, it was a bit overpowering and I didn't get any hint of pistachio. The drink wasn't exactly what I was expecting. I was really hoping for a bit of a more nutty pistachio flavor. If you're a big coconut fan, you may enjoy this drink more than I did. Despite being slightly disappointed with my drink, I do like the charming feel of this coffee shop. It has a cute beach vibe complete with surfboards and a laid back coastal feel. I like the quiet seating area in the back that is great for relaxing or studying. It makes this spot feel the perfect place for a little hidden escape. Overall, while the drink didn't totally hit the mark for me, the cozy coffee shop vibes made it worth the stop. read more

It's a charming little local spot. sitting on PCH, 5 minutes walking to the beach from its front door, Sleepy Seal hits on all the notes of a beach town coffee shop. Redondo itself doesn't really carry itself like a beach town like you'll find going south between LA and San Diego, but Sleepy Seal does. It's small, bright, warm, the staff are chill. It's a vibe. The seating is in the back and I could sit there for a fair bit studying or working. I wouldn't say its a hangout or coffee shop to talk in, but that's because there beach is right there. Why would you? I don't know if it was because of the day we went or what but the glass displays were all empty and made that portion feel a little barren. If they normally have baked goods or stuff in there awesome! We ordered the salted maple latte iced and an iced matcha. I'm not so much a fall flavor person so the seasonals weren't really that interesting to me, but I'll definitely come back to see what they have later on. The salted maple's coffee was great and the balance between the sweet and milk and coffee was what I look for. We sometimes forget, every coffee place is different, but sometimes matcha lattes come sweetened and sometimes they do not. This one was not. It was on the grainier side but got home and added some syrup and it perked right up! just need to remember to ask for that next time! Overall I'd recommend a visit. I'll be back when the seasons change to see what new things they have, to try their burritos, and to see the little seals they have around the place lol. Thanks! read more

Nice little spot but I can't fully support a place that does not have a public bathroom, even for customers. Especially when the back room is set up as a spot to hang out, work or chat with a friend. Ordered a chai latte which had way too much ginger for me. Bagel was good. Overall loved the vibes and would want to hang out again. But a coffee spot with no restroom is a no for me. read more

The good: This cafe was super cute and charming. I was walking around nearby and stumbled upon it and was super excited to see their menu. It's trendy but in a laid back way. The worker was friendly and greeted us as soon as we came in. I got a chicha morada-like canned drink and a pistachio croissant. The drink was smoky, complex and super interesting. They had a fridge full of other interesting drinks as well that included tea-infused drinks. The croissant was light the way Costco croissants are. I liked the green powder and chunks of pistachio on it. There was plenty of street parking in front of the shop. They had an assortment of other pastries as well as a side menu with food items like burritos (I think?). I will definitely be back to try more of their coffee items! The bad: There are two small tables outside but it would've been nice with some umbrellas for shade. The interesting: The back area has surfboards and a communal table. read more

This is just around my block and for the first time, I was able to check it out. It may look small but the space at the back is perfect for cafe goers and an excellent space to enjoy the beach vibe. Wonderful new coffee shop in Redondo Beach!! This is a small spot with a simple menu done right. I've been here a few times now and recommend it highly for both the great coffee and relaxing vibe. I ordered my favorite... Flat White :) This is one of the best I've had in a while. Creamy smooth with a rich coffee flavor. The owner is friendly and makes you feel at home. There is a large communal table in the back room filled with surf decor. A very enjoyable place to relax and enjoy your coffee :) They are on PCH a couple blocks north of Torrance Blvd. There is street parking only, but I have always been able to find a spot in front. And if you need to park around the corner it's a nice neighborhood to take a stroll just a couple streets up from the ocean and The Pier. Next time you're rolling down PCH do yourself a favor and stop in for a great cup of coffee :) read more

A pleasant, "no frills" coffee shop with great simple lattes. They offer pastry as well. Very minimal and tasteful setup in a great convenient location along the PCH. We have not had trouble finding easy free parking nearby. The staff is friendly and always warm. We always see locals making small talk and hanging out with them for a little bit :) They also have communal table seating in the back with a restroom. A new coffee shop opened up in Redondo Beach (it had been an unused venue for many years), and I decided to give it a try. Inside is small, but cozy with plenty of natural lighting to let in the lovely South Bay sun. I opted for a flat white, which came piping hot: the initial few sips were a bit bitter, but it soon mellowed into something smooth, creamy, and comforting. Drink is $5, but I wish it came in a slightly larger cup. Parking is on the street (2 hours free), as there's no designated lot. Welcome to the neighborhood Sleepy Seal. I happened to stop in the day before and the day of the Grand Opening. I love supporting small businesses and this cozy coffee shop has the Redondo Beach vibe and is turning out great coffee. The beans are sourced from a single farm in Nicaragua. As a small shop quality is so important and having the control of sourcing and roasting is key. You will not find sugar laden drinks that are more sugar than espresso. This place is Espresso focused with the most exotic drink being a flavored latte, aka vanilla, hazelnut. My son tried the hazelnut latte and loved it. He normally drinks Americanos but wanted to try and appreciated that it wasn't too sweet. He said it's the best he had so far. On my first visit I had a flat white, something I first had while traveling to New Zealand and felon love with. I appreciated the smooth boldness of the drink. And today I decided to try the Mocha. Again not too sweet, great flavor and the homemade whip was a nice touch. I look forward to seeing the growth at Sleepy Seal. I definitely recommend. read more

Wow! Walked in and could feel the good energy as everyone was just chatting with Dave the owner who opened up shop just last week. Loved to hear Dave's story and the why around sleepy seals name. Redondo may be the last sleepy town w some awesome wild life but don't sleep on this coffee shop. I enjoyed my first experience here at Sleepy Seal Coffee. The service were friendly and conversational. The atmosphere is very relaxed and appropriately beachy. I dont recall if there was any music playing inside, but that alone says a lot. You either know there was music or there wasn't, lol. The coffee...They have the standard coffee drinks. I ordered the cold brew and my fiancé ordered the cortado. Both the cortado and the cold brew were a solid hit. For a place to conduct your work at and have a standard solid coffee drink, this would be your go-to place. If you're looking for something with a sweetness to your drink, it's hard to say that you would find any options for that style of coffee. They're official grand opening, I was told, is happening in January 2025. read more

So glad to have stumbled across this spot. A friend of mine posted on IG that a new spot owned by a local was opening this week so I had to stop by while I was in town visiting family. I was excited to learn the owner has some experience in the coffee business so I wasnt surprised when the drip was on point. The chai got on another visit was from another small batch producer so it is awesome to see that they are supporting other small businesses as they build out. My first experience at the coffee shop I'm going to say was horrible. The guy there was rude tone of Voice that he took with me. I made my order as one of the coffee's came out the other one took longer. As a couple of other customers came in I noticed how there's was out before mines hadn't even began on my other coffee. I couldn't help but to think was it because they were white and I was not and that's why their order was made before. Extremely rude staff member, the girl with turquoise cap and short hair. I came with my double stroller with my sleeping infant and toddler and it would not fit into the entrance door. My stroller is a side by side double stroller that is made to fit standard doorways that are 30 inches wide. A kind customer offered to watch my stroller with my sleeping baby while I went in to order my drink with my toddler. The door is 4 feet from the counter. There were two girls working. I told them the stroller wouldn't fit into their door and the girl with the turquoise cap and short hair said ok what do you want me to do about it? I said do you have another door on the side or back that I can enter? She said no and rolled her eyes. The other girl took my order. Then I asked can you bring my drink outside to the table because I have to watch my baby and toddler in the stroller. The girl with the turquoise cap said no we are extremely busy and don't have capacity to do that. You have to come back inside to get it. I said ok. Then I waited outside. The other girl brought it outside for me. The salted maple syrup latte ($7.20) I got iced and it didn't have any foam top or anything special. It just tasted like a normal iced coffee with syrup. The apple juice was I got for my child was martellinis but it was plastic and it was $3.36 which is even more expensive than an honest brand apple juice at sweetgreen which is $2.25. The apple juice wasn't even cold. I would say to go across the street to Tot coffee. Their door fits strollers and their staff are kind and their coffee is better. The door should be a standard door size to fit a normal double stroller. I have been to tons of coffee shops with a single door opening that fits my stroller like Starbucks, tot coffee, ups store, Otto tea shoppe etc. does this door even fit a wheelchair? It should be accessible and made a little wider. It's about 3 inches too narrow. I'd like the owner to contact me about his extremely rude staff member and correct her to treat customers with Children and strollers nicer to accommodate them. It's not my fault you didn't design your door wide enough to fit a normal stroller width that is designed to fit all normal doors. This makes me question if the door is ADA compliant (32 inches wide). The door should be a standard door that is 30-32 inches wide. My stroller fits all standard doorways. This not only limits me but disabled people in wheelchairs. Even the workers at Klatch Coffee down the street have been nice when I had my kids and dogs and said they don't allow dogs inside beside service dogs but can take my order outside and bring my coffee outside. read more
