I recently hosted an event at Slate by Nik Fields, and the experience was beyond extraordinary from beginning to end! A month later, our attendees are STILL talking about what an exceptional evening we had, which says everything about the experience Nik and his team created. From the moment we arrived, Nik was incredibly welcoming, and the entire staff was attentive, professional, and genuinely invested in making sure our event was special. Everything was absolutely wonderful and the staff went above and beyond to ensure every detail exceeded our expectations. We never felt like we were simply another group hosting an event, the service felt personal, thoughtful, and intentional. And the food! The appetizers and meal were delicious and beautifully complemented the wine bar experience. First things first, support black-owned businesses as always. I remembered going to her winery and restaurant bar in Tempe about 3 years ago, and the vibes were classy. Hence, I was really excited to see that she opened a new spot in Phoenix. I came here for a Girls Night Dinner with the bookclub that I joined, and the vibes were classy and chic. For the foods and drinks, I think it would be effective if they can include the prices, so people don't have to guess their spending budget. I got the Devilish Eggs and a mocktail, and they were both yummy. I ended up spending $38, so that the others items may go up. Joined a friend for happy hour and sat and the adorable patio on a lovely April evening. The service was phenomenal and our server Caleb was incredibly attentive from the moment we sat down. Quaint details that allow for an aesthetically pleasing vibe whether on a date or out to brunch with the girls. Service was on point. Staff are attentive and friendly. Cons: Menu is pricey and prices are not shown. So I'd advise to inquire if you don't want surprises with the bill. The menu is not extensive. All apps are shareable with one main entree. Also, the gratuity is automatically included. Which you typically don't see for small parties, so that was a surprise as well. Overall a pleasant experience. Stopped in for Valentine's day dinner and I love the location because its where Timo was located. Overall, my friend and I enjoyed the experience (the love band, our server/experience curator) everyone was super great and I appreciate the service. Great location and Great location an ambiance should not equal automatic gratuity and the bill we paid. I literally could have went to Steak 44 and had a full meal by myself for the amount we paid, the drinks were not strong, the food was ok and the caviar was double the amount for the 1oz jar (I had the same thing at the Global Ambassador and it was cheaper and better). I hate to compare but for me to not have had a solo meal and my friend and I still paid over $350 is ridiculous on top of that they didnt charge for our deviled eggs and we got two drinks for a penny so I dont know why it was so expensive. It boils down to adding the tip beforehand (which is horrible practice no place should do that for a tble of 2 - the quickest way to lose customers) please if you plan to over charge get more items on the menu, make sure the wedge salad has fresh lettuce and the drinks are not watered down. My friend and I split the bill and I cannot believe we both paid $191 and we didn't even have a meal to ourselves and 2 drinks Im still thinking... what did we pay for?? read more

My friends and I visited here on a Sunday brunch, and let me just say by saying 10/10 recommend. This is an elegant upscale wine bar, that has a beautiful setting, extravagant food and wonderful service. We were greeted by a lovely young lady at the door who seated us. Once inside, a violinist performing her rendition of old school faves met us at the door and roses hanging from the ceiling guided us to our seats. Once seated, our server informed us of how the menu was layered and took our drink orders. We had, lemon drop flights, mai tai, their take on an Espresso martini, a margarita to die for and a bourbon infused beverage that can only be described as "honey". As we ordered our food, we saw salmon, deviled eggs, crab cakes and other dishes fly out to others' tables, which only made choosing our own meals more difficult. The portions are very fitting, the flavors DYNAMIC, hot food was piping hot from the kitchen. We even got to see the owner and creator, "Nik" herself come over to our table (she's SO AMAZING btw). My only regret is that I didn't come here SOONER! But I will definitely be coming back. This was an experience. PSA: This is not for friends who like to penny pinch or "count coins"! Had a fantastic visit to this intimate, trendy restaurant. We were greeted warmly and seated immediately for our reservation. We had so much good food, I love how they provided a complimentary champagne toast as soon as you arrive. Of course they have a full bar and wine selection. The lavender martini and peach martini were hits with my friends. I enjoyed the prosecco. Try the House of Barbie wines... awesome! The caprese salad was so fresh and delicious. The deviled eggs with shrimp were outstanding. The lobster and Mac and cheese was full of flavor and super cheesy. The chicken buffalo dip was just ok to me. The jerk chicken was juicy and fresh, but too spicy for Mr. The lobster and shrimp garlic noodles were full of seafood and packed with flavor. When first entering outdoors, there is a cute door bell with sign that says, "ring for free champagne". So cute! We sat at the bar and were immediately served champagne; complimentary, of course. Visited Slate for the first time last week and what a pleasant experience. The outdoor space was such a vibe. The service was great and the food was amazing. Ordered the deviled eggs with shrimp and the charcuterie board. Both dishes were excellent. Definitely recommend this spot for either an intimate outing or just hanging with some friends. No prices on the menu which is a first for me so suggest asking prices prior to ordering. Also there were only 2 of us and the gratuity was automatically put onto the bill. Nice place, and I always love supporting Black-owned, women-owned businesses. The food was really good once it came out, but the service experience needs improvement. We were there celebrating my niece's birthday, and unfortunately her food and drink came out LAST, which was especially disappointing given the occasion was verbally communicated both by reservation and upon arrival. We had no problem paying, but we were charged for items we never received. When we brought it to their attention, we were met with attitude, as if we were in the wrong. Customer service overall fell short, including the lack of a sincere apology from the owner. There was also an issue with our bill that wasn't handled smoothly. While they credited the difference, we were still asked to sign an incorrect receipt, which was frustrating. There was no accountability or ownership, just verbal blaming of other staff members for the multiple mishaps. WE have to do better!!! I will be dreaming about these deviled eggs with Cajun shrimp forever. Just a fabulous mix of flavors. I came with a friend. We ordered two items expecting them to be small and that we'd eventually order more. The two items we ordered: deviled eggs and a salmon dish were both really well balanced and we were stuffed by the time we finished them. The wine selection was interesting. We tried 4 different wines and liked 3 of them, but that's just a matter of personal preference. It's odd that there are no prices on the menu and we forgot to ask but when the bill came we felt like we'd gotten our money's worth. Nothing was shockingly priced and all of it was a good value. I'll be returning with a bigger group so that we can sample more of the menu. We even made friends with a fellow diner after our meal and she raved about how good the crab cakes and lavender lemon drop were. Can't wait to try both. Lots of local guests. -Food is marginal. Most dishes were overly sweet. There is no sense of who Nik is by the food coming out. -There are no prices on the menu -If are selling "curated wines " list the winery, vintage and price. A short no fuss description would be great. -Automatic gratuity? The staff is good let them continue to earn it. - Create a signature dish or two, and make really darn good pizzas out of that pizza oven. - Take the fussy language off the menu. Stick to basics, food, preparation and price! Leave the rest out. I don't need to know that "salmon is sultry or seductive". Just tell me how it's prepared and make it taste really good. I want great dining not a romance novel. It's a new place and hopefully she will work out the kinks. I write this as someone who lives close by and truly wants this restaurant to succeed after visiting one time: 1. Put the prices on the menu. Keeping them off only adds to anxiety and does not reduce it. 2. Don't hardwire a 20% tip into the final bill. This rubs most people the wrong way even though I know you want to take care of your truly great team. 3. Focus on making the best brick oven pizza. You have the brick oven. Make pizza your signature item. Don't get distracted with other menu items. Be legendary for one thing. 4. Focus on having world class salads. These go great with pizza. They need to be amazing. That's it. Nothing else. Master these 2 categories and you will have a gold mine. Your staff are friendly, personable and offer great service. We were a party of 3 trying Slate for the first time. We have dined at the previous restaurant housed in this location many times and were excited to try this new wine bar/bistro concept. We came early for happy hour. The happy hour program was explained to us by a very helpful and friendly server but it was a little confusing to follow. Basically you buy one drink and get a second for a penny which worked out nicely. The server handed us menus without prices and small envelope with a card inside (picture attached) saying it was from the chef. I must say, being told there were no prices listed and that I should just relax really didn't relax me. I suppose if we had asked for prices, the server would have told us. We ordered two "shareables" to start. They were very large servings for apps. The deviled eggs had 8 egg halves each topped with a cajun shrimp. They were delicious and quite filling. If this were split only two ways, it is practically a meal as that is 2 eggs and 4 shrimp. At $22, I would have preferred a smaller portion at smaller price. Our second appetizer was the spinach dip. The spinach dip may have been the tastiest I have ever had but again, the portion was very large ($24) and after the deviled eggs, we did not finish it. Also , it is served with small pieces of bread but there isn't enough bread for the amount of dip. We fully expected to order more food when we came in but after those two apps, we were done. I think the dip was larger and pricier than it needed to be. Our bill for two cocktails, 4 glasses of wine and the 2 appetizers was $121 including an automatically added 20% gratuity. I wasn't upset by the automatic tip but I often tip more than 20% so I'm not sure its a good thing for the servers. While we enjoyed the food and drinks and our server was friendly, the overall vibe was cold. There was almost no others in the place while we were there. There were several staff(and the chef/owner) sitting at the bar area and there were times that our drinks were up and the server was in another area, no one brought our drinks. I knew that the chef/owner was one of the people sitting at the bar and was surprised that she did not greet us or stop by our table. That was a lost opportunity to connect with a new patron who might spread the word if they felt welcomed (I always share new places we like with others). We left feeling like we were not seen or appreciated. I also think that having a wood-fired oven lends itself to some creative pizza and flatbread options. There was a flatbread on the menu and we might have tired it if were weren't so full from the apps. I might go back again at some point if I see good reviews but otherwise Slate will not be on our restaurant rotation schedule. read more

We waited 45 minutes and still hadn't had even had a drink ordered, and all of our food came out at different times and one of the guests at our table never got their food.
