Several years ago, Rick replaced the a cracked skylight lens for us on a manual operable skylight. Apparently he had his son (or son in law) install it. Within a few months after installation, a mechanical metal part fell to the ground and we ended up having to "heat / torch fuse" it to secure it back in. We also noticed the gasket missing around the insect screen and an unsightly jagged hole within the screen where the gasket once was. I contacted Rick and he left me a message that he knew nothing about what I was referring to and that it was outside the scope of his work. The truth of the matter is the gasket was there before the lens replacement and they left us with an unsightly insect screen with a hole in it where bugs could get in. We noticed that quite a few screws that were used to secure the insect screen were missing as well. They did S L O P P Y work at best and even caused damage for which Rick took no responsibility. So guess what I'm doing now....hired a different skylight installation company to fix the damaged insect screen. And....I found a skylight company that cares about quality and service and really understands the technical aspects of skylight mechanics! Judging from the YELP reviews I've read so far, it looks like Rick's really nice to customers when he does big jobs such as new installations. But watch out. See how he reacts when he has to fix something. My advise. Buyer beware. read more

We have a small home in Laguna Woods with 7 skylights. After a new roof was installed last year we were experiencing much higher electric bills and were noticing drafts and excessive dust in house. We called out Skylight Specialties and they went up on the roof and did an inspection and found that the skylights were indeed leaking. For a very reasonable price they removed all seven skylights and installed a high-grade insulation. One skylight was cracked and we replaced that with an operable skylight and it works beautiful. We have been through some very windy days since then and have noticed the dust has stopped, the house is quieter, and it is much warmer. Wow, called and Rick answered, I explained our leaking skylight issue. Rick says, "I can be there in about 20 minutes, I'll take a look". Actually got here in 15 minutes, climbs up, checks it out, sees a couple problems, offers suggestions and a Very reasonable price to do the work. No muss, no fuss, no BS. He'll be doing my repair--I was blown away by his customer service, interaction and knowledge of products. Will update upon completion but at this point--you need to at least meet him, discuss your needs and see what he can do for you. Well install is done, Rick and helper even added extra calk to insure a solid seal on the unit. I was updated as they waited for the ordered skylight to arrive and called as they headed over to do the install. Very, very pleased with this company and their service! read more

Great friendly professional service! Jeff and colleague replaced an existing skylight with a solar skylight that opens via remote control - now we have a nice breeze going through the back of the house. The new solar skylight was a little larger but they made it work with the existing curb and making sure everything was waterproof - a better installation then the original! The installation job was done correctly 13 or so years ago. We now have a problem needing attention. After three calls to them I finally got a call back with a promise to "look at the problem when in the area" It's three weeks later so apparently they are never in the area.
