First, the dining area is nicely appointed and with a cozy feel. The hostess and our waitress were on top of their game--very hospitable and the waitress was well-versed about the menu and specials. Prices were comparable with other restaurants. Between the specials and the main menu, there is something for everyone. That said, this is where our experience wasn't so good, as we were there for the food more than the ambience. We each ordered off of the specials. I had the Jamaican Jerk Pork Tenderloin and my friend had the Veal Osso Buco. The pork tenderloin was tender with a bit of a kick. But unfortunately it had a very salty sauce that ruined it. It was hard to scrape the sauce off. The sauce also ran into a bit of the mashed potatoes (which tasted strongly of sour cream or vinegar), and the roasted vegetables (which were good). The veal did fall off the bone, but most of it was stringy, as if over-done. The polenta underneath it was okay, but nothing to elevate it to great. The bread was crusty and very good, but the olive oil dip did not have rosemary or garlic. It was plain but good olive oil. It's BYOB and they do provide an ice bucket. This was our first time at Skratch, and maybe it was an off-night (it was a Saturday and only 5:30 pm. Not all tables were filled). We just expected an amazing or even a very good experience, food-wise. read more

First of all, this is a small restaurant, perhaps 40 seats, so if it is Friday or Saturday evening and especially if it is summertime, make a reservation. Second, it is a BYOB. If you forgot your favorite wine, a liquor store is nearby. Remember, with a BYOB you will be saving a lot of money: that $12 bottle of wine would go for $36 in a restaurant serving alcohol, add tax and tip and that bottle cost you $45. Do the math! We dined here early last evening. The place has a cosy, pleasant ambiance and a good selection of music playing softly. Erica was our very attentive and friendly server. We started with a special appetizer of Buratta, $18, with greens, figs, cranberries in a white vinaigrette dressing. Yummy. For entrees, we both had fish. Flounder Oreganata with roasted potatoes and vegetables, $36, was an evening special. Tuscan Cod with baby clams etc., $35, is on the regular menu. Everything was scrumptious. We had no room for dessert. My only criticism is that when the bill arrived, a 3% credit card fee had already been added. We always pay in cash. So, when I left the money for dinner and tip, I told Erica to keep the extra 3% fee. An excellent dining experience. We will certainly return. read more

We dinned at Skratch the other night, I ordered the Fisherman's Stew. It came in a casserole pan and looked good. The shrimp and calamari were like rubber, they had been over cooked. I would think that a restaurant with dozens of cook books on the shelf leading to the bathroom would have at least read a chapter or two about cooking seafood. Unfortunately when I brought it to the waitresses attention not a manager, owner or chef responded to me with an apology nor did they discount or remove the meal from my bill. One of the best restaurants I have been to. From the service to the food... Everything was outstanding. Helen was our waitress and she was amazing & gave us good advice on what to order. JT... Chef/owner also came over to our table and he was sooo nice. He made my friends & I feel so welcome. My friends took me there for a belated birthday dinner and it was definitely worth the wait. The atmosphere was also very inviting, and can make a great date night as well. We had a couple of specials, and also ordered from the regular menu. It's the type of menu, that when you read it everything sounds incredible and you would want to try all that is offered. We had two of the special appetizers... The Burrata and the Caramelized Figs. The Burrata was delicious, but I am still dreaming about the caramelized figs. Door} People It was one of the best appetizers I have ever had. For our mains we had a special of Cavatelli with shrimp and broccoli Rabe. It was delicious. We also had the Chicken Milanese which was prepared in a little bit of a different way, which was also delicious, but my favorite dish was the special that was a Jamaican jerk pork loin. It was made in this delicious sauce and I wish I could eat it for dinner again tonight. Again, one of the best dishes I've ever had. Also, the portions are large. Once again, JT and his crew prove to be the MASTERS! Dinner for 6 was just superb for us. Sean ran the table and had us completely under control, in the very best way possible! Of course we had to start by sharing some appetizers, including the best of them: Cajun CLams!! Beyond that, we tries a great assortment of Main courses from the Halibut special to the Chicken SAvoy, the pork chop, and the Cioppino. Each was outstanding. We followed up with coffee and desserts. All excellent, although we would probably pass on the donut holes next time and stick to the more traditional desserts. Carrot cake and the Pistachio Tiramisu were the stars.... We went for our first time and sat outside. The space was absolutely adorable once you walk down the path filled with beautiful flowers. Our server was pleasant and attentive. We ordered apps, house special burrata, & the roasted cauliflower- both were delicious. For dinner we shared the Gnudi and pappardella bolognese. The Gnudi was outstanding! My first taste of the pappardella was interesting, it had a hint of cinnamon, but once I tasted it again it was good. Our waitress recommended the carrot cake when I asked for suggestions and that was absolutely delicious, as well. It's a BYOB Gem! We will definitely be back! read more

Seems to be the place to be in Bradley Beach!! It is a byob which is nice but they make up for no booze with the prices. $35 for a cheese steak?! It was pricey but the food was good. We had the artichoke hearts wrapped with proscuitto and cheese to start which was delicious. The entrees took forever but they were pretty good. I wished the general tso's chicken was a little crispier for the chicken and waffles. The flavor was good though. The flank steak special was cooked nicely. Dessert was the star of the show. The blueberry bread pudding and the brownie with peanut butter ice cream were out of bounds. I enjoyed the meal and I would come back. 4 stars all the way! read more

Everything was very good except I was not a personal fan of the oysters but the polenta they were served over was delicious- creamy and really great. Entrees were nicely prepared, pasta was fab and the server was attentive and patient. The bread was over the top good. read more

I've eaten hear more than 1/2 dozen times over the last few years. I always liked it. Maybe not the highest quality ingredients or every dish executed perfectly, but the service was reliably good and the food was solid. They have fallen off. Tonight the food was awful and the service was terrible. The bread on our table was dried out and tasted stale--probably left too long to heat before serving. Putting warm bread out shouldn't be a hard thing to do. I get that they were packed and maybe under staffed. When you are in the weeds apologize. Treat customers with dignity. Don't serve dried out chicken and slimy improperly seared tuna steaks. If you tell a customer that you can serve a dish without the item she is allergic too--don't serve it to them with that item. That is bush league. When I was a server our owner would have comped the table their meal. I hope someone in the back of the house got a good dinner. Sadly, I need to scratch the Skratch kitchen off my list of places. read more

Had a really nice date night here! Small and cozy spot with only a few tables in the dining room. We ordered the cajun clams for an appetizer which were spicy and flavorful. They came loaded with sausage and beans. For dinner my fiance got the bolognese and I got the fusili. The pasta tasted really fresh and the sauce was great. We got the doughnuts for dessert and while they were not my favorite, they were a nice little treat. I definitely want to come back and try more off of their menu. Skratch Kitchen offers delicious and unique meals. Their menu changes periodically, so there's usually something new to try. Especially recommend the grilled octopus or any of their seafood dishes. It's cute inside, but fairly small so always good to make a reservation, especially in the summer. They also have some outdoor seating, which is nice. Service is always friendly. For entrees I had cod with fennel, white beans , tomatoes and baby clams, my husband ordered their special blackened tuna with mango tomatillo salsa and our son had Gen Tso's chicken & waffles. For desert we got lemon ricotta cheesecake and their fancy version of banana split. Everything was tasty. Cappuccino was great too. The last dish was beyond outstanding. I have enjoyed chicken savoy since the Belmont Tavern in Newark. If you know Savoy, you know Stretch's savoy at the Belmont. Well this rendition of Chicken Savoy was THE BEST I HAVE EVER EATEN! five small skin-on boneless pieces fried in a super hot pan in high fired balsamic vinegar smothered in sweet and hot peppers in a balsamic and olive oil pan reduction. It was like my mother made it in the kitchen for me the linguine was aldente and not mushy at all. The calamari was so fresh and tasty. The swordfish was so clean and healthy.
