This place is consistently tasty with so many unique bagel sandwich options, salads, breakfast, sweets etc. I typically go during the lunch rush so its fairly busy but I get in and out the door in under 15min. The parking lot can be a little hectic so just be mindful when backing out or pulling in. The combos are where its at (half bagel/half salad/ half soup...pick 2)! Half bagel?...pft its enough for a meal on its own, same with the salads. Yum. Everything is fresh and there are some pretty creative combos on the board. I suppose you could just get a bagel and some of their awesome cream cheese. The place is also connected to a hamburger joint if you change your mind mid way through the door (its good too, but I prefer the deli) Tables during rush are kind of hit and miss with cleanliness although they usually have someone clearing as soon as people leave. Their menu is creative with a lot of options--basically dream up any meat/egg/veggie combo, and they can put it on a bagel for you. I went recently and ordered a standard ham, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich that was delicious although nothing to write home about. The atmosphere at Skip's is family friendly with a lot of high schoolers grabbing a bite with their friends, or families stopping in for an affordable meal. Skip's is interesting in the fact that it's attached to a burger joint. You can walk around the wall, and bam! Burgers. I walked in the first time a bit confused.. To the left, bagel sandwiches, to the right burgers... choose wisely... there should have been some dramatic music playing in the background with louder and higher notes being played if I started to make the wrong choice.. I walked in, and looked around not sure where to go. There were 3 different areas to order, and I think it depends on the type of food you are getting. I went to the back, and ordered a breakfast sandwich for lunch, because lets face it, nothing is better than breakfast at lunch. NOM. It was tasty, and drinks are served in a bucket sized cup. This place is very convenient to my house, therefore we have breakfast often at this location. I must say that the food has always been very good. The problems comes with the service. I have never eaten on premise, just always take-out. I would estimate that I have went here 10-15 times since January of this year when we relocated to this area. I can only think of maybe twice that the order has been correct when I have gotten home. They have left out things like Lox or eggs, etc. They have failed to toast the bagels or not put the cream cheese on the side. All of these things are disappointing because many times I have been forced to make a return trip. The staff never apologizes or seems to give a da*n that a mistake was made. I was looking for a good sandwich to feed my appetite after a long day of errands, and happened across this place by chance while driving in the area. It's a pretty standard deli, with a list of recommended sandwiches you can order, or you can build your own. They also have salads, soups, desserts, and a breakfast menu, but I was interested in the sandwiches. I got the Redleg, which was roast beef and cheddar, with tomatoes, banana peppers, and baon on an asiago cheese bagel. It came with the tastiest pickle I've had in a long time, and was was quite delicious. Definitely hit the spot, and filled me up. Located in the same location as Cheezburger Cafe, this place has pretty good deli style sandwiches. There is a nice fireplace inside and free WIFI. My tip is to not bother with the NY style sizing, they put about the same amount of meat on both sizes (I've tried both and didn't see much of a difference, except for $2 in price). read more

The bagels were fantastic. They are in the traditional New York style. I had an egg salad wrap. The egg salad was a delicious simple comfort style with gobs of eggs. The potato salad was a bit disappointing for me as I do not like sweet pickles. But all in all a good choice for deli. read more

It took me awhile to try Skip's. I live nearby, but the location is a little tucked away for my normal driving. I've been back almost every week since I first tried it though. My kids like the coloring sheets and free cookie deal and I feel good about them eating some turkey and cheese. Solid bagels. Coming from NYC I'm particular about the texture. The Everything bagel here has a generous amount of seasoning, a crispy chewy crust, and a soft spongey inside. Much better than other Midwest "bagels" that are bread rolls shaped like a bagel with no texture whatsoever. I had the lite Reuben sandwich and a side of coleslaw. Tasty sandwich and decent coleslaw. Husband had the pastrami sandwich that he also enjoyed. Portions are good. I could only finish half the sandwich for lunch. Omelettes and salads also look good. Used to frequent this Skip's quite a bit...my husband and I lived around the corner. The food is pretty dang good...I'm a sucker for bagel sandwiches, and theirs are awesome! The Fiesta Chicken Omelette is delicious too, and the chocolate chip bagels are addicting. I was so shocked and stunned by this experience...she was honestly just downright rude to us...no greeting, no thank you, no warm parting words at the end of the rushed transaction...it wasn't good. :( My husband kind of mumbled a thank you, which wasn't returned or acknowledged. I was so taken aback, because we have always had SUCH good service! I wrote an email to the owner, Skip :), and this is where the review turns positive. Not only did he respond quickly (the same day), he was kind enough to send us four meal coupons, and a few other coupons for the Cheezburger Cafe next door as well. He sincerely apologized for the experience we had, and I could tell it was genuine. Not only did he respond to me personally, he went out of his way to do whatever he could to make it up to us. As someone who works in the food industry, I appreciated his effort, and I WILL be back. I know that no matter how hard you try, there are going to be times when your efforts fall short. There will be instances when an employee is not doing what they're supposed to do, and will ruin what you, as a manager or owner, are trying to accomplish with your restaurant! But it's what you do when/if that happens that makes all the difference. If you work hard to show the guest that they, as an individual, matter to you, and do all you can to make it right and retain them...it shows me that you're in the business for the right reasons. My brother and I discovered this place by mistake, but I'm glad we did. Our destination was the cheeseburger place next door but they didn't have nearly as many menu options, let alone healthy ones. Let me start by saying I have had bagels from shops all over the country, and my standard is an Everything or Combo (depending where you are) with light plain cream cheese and Nova Lox. Having said that, I started going to Skip's when I moved to Deerfield Twp. in 2000. Now that I have moved, I still go, mostly out of habit, and it's a tad closer than Marx or Brueggers. The bagels are OK, a little more "bread like" than a "real" bagel, but they are tasty nonetheless...probably an average of 4 stars. Today, was my last visit. I ordered my standard, and when I jumped in the car and opened the wrapper, I was face to face with that dark brown meat (fatty meat) that you see in farm raised salmon. However, mistakes are made, so, I went back in, showed it to them and was immediately challenged by the cashier, the person that put the bagel together and even a male employee that ran from the back to the front to join in. They immediately began pulling out as much lox as they could, and loudly started telling me it was normal and edible. Yes, it IS edible, but so is fat and gristle on a steak, but it's not very pleasing to see, nor is it very palatable. In salmon, this meat is edible, but very salty and fishy and not too pleasing to the eye. Finally, I asked for a refund and they completely ignored me. They continued to talk among themselves, shooting glances my way, until finally they decided to refund the money. As a note, the entire time she was processing the refund, she was going on and on and on about how it's normal to have that. YES, it IS. But MOST bagel shops take PRIDE in what they serve and take the time to ensure that they serve the most eye appealing and best TASTING product they can. See the pictures for comparison, then, you be the judge. Whatever happened to customer service? It certainly has disappeared at Skip's. Had a horrible experience... it took 16 mins to get our order, people coming in after us were getting their food before us. The tables were all dirty. The ice tea tasted old, like it had been sitting there all day. We asked for real silverware for our meal and the girl behind the counter said the silverware was in the dishwasher. The food when it did come out was room temp. My bagel wasn't toasted. I have been going to Skip's for over 10 years and have always loved it. My go-to is a bagel with green olive cream cheese. When I first had it I thought it was brilliant! In the past year, they have slowly been reducing the amount of olives to the point that today I counted 7 olives in my whole bagel. Aw, man. So bummed... I ordered the curry chicken salad on onion bagel (even asked the cashier did they still have it on the menu and she said yes ), but didn't realize till I got home it was just the regular chicken salad. Still good but missing that flavor I was craving! My bad for not catching it rung up as just chicken salad on the receipt. Well anyway, I used to go to this Skips a lot when I worked in this area. It has been years since I've been there so thought I would stop by. The service was friendly and fast. I saw a lot of really good looking salads and sandwiches for dine in while I waited for my order to come up. The bagel was really tasty and fresh with lots of yummy onion bits on the top. The chicken salad was generous and fresh, but like I said I had wanted the curry chicken salad so I was disappointed about that. The food quality was really good... I was reminded of how good their bagels really are. Next time in I'm in the area I will give them another shot and be sure I get that curry chicken salad. read more

The service on 11/10/16 was bad. It was 11:30 and there was only one register open when I got in line. Eventually another register opened and I placed my bakery order of a bagel and cinnamon roll. I wanted to like it. The onion bagel (which I ordered with egg, cheese and sausage) tasted burnt and left an awful taste in my mouth. The coffee operation was lackluster, including not-so-hot liquid and a slightly dirty station. I also ordered a poppie seed bagel with cream cheese and, while it was better than the onion bagel, just was plain, blah and not particularly tasty. On top of it, when I picked up my take-out order and inquired about napkins, which weren't in my paper bag and I couldn't locate about the restaurant in a carry out-type placement, I was told napkins were "on every table" and I excused myself to take some off a table while another customer munched on his breakfast. Thanks for the awkward feelings, folks. Having worked for several years in the restaurant business and realizing how bloody hard it is, I tend to be forgiving.
