My biggest complaint? Tables are ALWAYS dirty. I've been coming here for years (soup and a toasted bagel is my go to), and no matter if they are busy or slow, the tables are ALWAYS dirty. Also, it always costs more than what the menu says. I'm talking about the before tax items never match the menu prices. They do have good soup though. read more

We really enjoy Skip's for a weekend breakfast. Their bagels and flavored cream cheeses are great, and a ham, egg, and cheese on a jalapeño bagel can't be beat. Lunches are good too, the Downtown Mary Jane is my fav sandwich, turkey, Swiss, guacamole, yumminess. The salads are great, served in giant "bagel bowls", get a salad and a side of cream cheese for the bagel bowl and you're set. Now, for the bad... Otherwise, I would give it a higher rating. The staff is so apathetic. You feel like you're bothering them by coming into the restaurant. Also, the maintenance on the tables, chairs, and booths is seriously lacking. Every seat is ripped, stuffing showing, and taped back together. That just feels gross, sliding into a booth with seat stuffing and duct tape beneath you... I really like this place, and with a few tweaks it'd be a perfect breakfast and lunch spot. read more

Skip's is a solid option for breakfast or lunch if you're in the mood for a bagel sandwich. Their menu is creative with a lot of options--basically dream up any meat/egg/veggie combo, and they can put it on a bagel for you. I went recently and ordered a standard ham, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich that was delicious although nothing to write home about. The atmosphere at Skip's is family friendly with a lot of high schoolers grabbing a bite with their friends, or families stopping in for an affordable meal. I recommend it for those times when you're really craving a bagel, but it's not a place you need to go out of your way to try. read more

This place is consistently tasty with so many unique bagel sandwich options, salads, breakfast, sweets etc. I typically go during the lunch rush so its fairly busy but I get in and out the door in under 15min. The parking lot can be a little hectic so just be mindful when backing out or pulling in. The combos are where its at (half bagel/half salad/ half soup...pick 2)! Half bagel?...pft its enough for a meal on its own, same with the salads. Yum. Everything is fresh and there are some pretty creative combos on the board. I suppose you could just get a bagel and some of their awesome cream cheese. The place is also connected to a hamburger joint if you change your mind mid way through the door (its good too, but I prefer the deli) Tables during rush are kind of hit and miss with cleanliness although they usually have someone clearing as soon as people leave. Staff runs like a machine so when they are all in line things go quick and smoothly and it takes a few minutes if you need help with something else. read more

Skip's is interesting in the fact that it's attached to a burger joint. You can walk around the wall, and bam! Burgers. I walked in the first time a bit confused.. To the left, bagel sandwiches, to the right burgers... choose wisely... there should have been some dramatic music playing in the background with louder and higher notes being played if I started to make the wrong choice.. I walked in, and looked around not sure where to go. There were 3 different areas to order, and I think it depends on the type of food you are getting. I went to the back, and ordered a breakfast sandwich for lunch, because lets face it, nothing is better than breakfast at lunch. NOM. It was tasty, and drinks are served in a bucket sized cup. The staff is always super friendly, and all in all I like the place. It's not my fave, but I will definitely go back. read more

This place is very convenient to my house, therefore we have breakfast often at this location. I must say that the food has always been very good. The problems comes with the service. I have never eaten on premise, just always take-out. I would estimate that I have went here 10-15 times since January of this year when we relocated to this area. I can only think of maybe twice that the order has been correct when I have gotten home. They have left out things like Lox or eggs, etc. They have failed to toast the bagels or not put the cream cheese on the side. All of these things are disappointing because many times I have been forced to make a return trip. The staff never apologizes or seems to give a da*n that a mistake was made. The owner or manager needs to train his or her staff. read more

I had a horrible experience here the floors where a mess And not only that.. the manager was very unkind. i ordered a bacon egg and cheese with cream cheese and only got a bagel with cream cheese. 1/10 will not try again read more

We went on a Friday evening at 5:30pm. The deli was nearly empty. We ordered the sandwich and soup combo. The chicken chili was delicious and the rubin excellent. The brewed ice tea and Highlander grog were wonderful. All this and a brownie for under $23.00. read more

The bagels, coffee, and eggs are always excellent. Unfortunately, the lack of cleanliness of the bathrooms, the tables always needing to be wiped off combined with the impertinent and unprofessional staff have made me a regular customer at Sleepy Bee and First Watch. read more

After trying 5 different things from Skip's, I have been satisfied 5 times. I'm now relatively convinced that anything from Skip's will meet or exceed expectations. Plus, it's not everywhere that you can find bagel deli sandwiches, so +5 points for being unique. read more

I was looking for a good sandwich to feed my appetite after a long day of errands, and happened across this place by chance while driving in the area. It's a pretty standard deli, with a list of recommended sandwiches you can order, or you can build your own. They also have salads, soups, desserts, and a breakfast menu, but I was interested in the sandwiches. I got the Redleg, which was roast beef and cheddar, with tomatoes, banana peppers, and baon on an asiago cheese bagel. It came with the tastiest pickle I've had in a long time, and was was quite delicious. Definitely hit the spot, and filled me up. Would eat there again if I was in the area, but probably wouldn't make the drive out there just for their food. read more

Located in the same location as Cheezburger Cafe, this place has pretty good deli style sandwiches. There is a nice fireplace inside and free WIFI. My tip is to not bother with the NY style sizing, they put about the same amount of meat on both sizes (I've tried both and didn't see much of a difference, except for $2 in price). read more

I love Skips and their food! There food is always up to par but my complaint lies with the staff. The staff member Jessica I believe was very rude to not only me but also her staff members. I'm not sure how she got hired because the rest of the staff was so nice! I just felt bad because I wouldn't want to work with someone like her ): the food as always was a 5/5 but her service really upset me. read more

It took me awhile to try Skip's. I live nearby, but the location is a little tucked away for my normal driving. I've been back almost every week since I first tried it though. My kids like the coloring sheets and free cookie deal and I feel good about them eating some turkey and cheese. I've enjoyed trying several of the bagel sandwiches and I'm a FAN of the homemade sauerkraut! Don't be afraid to give this place a try! read more

The bagels were fantastic. They are in the traditional New York style. I had an egg salad wrap. The egg salad was a delicious simple comfort style with gobs of eggs. The potato salad was a bit disappointing for me as I do not like sweet pickles. But all in all a good choice for deli. read more

Solid bagels. Coming from NYC I'm particular about the texture. The Everything bagel here has a generous amount of seasoning, a crispy chewy crust, and a soft spongey inside. Much better than other Midwest "bagels" that are bread rolls shaped like a bagel with no texture whatsoever. I had the lite Reuben sandwich and a side of coleslaw. Tasty sandwich and decent coleslaw. Husband had the pastrami sandwich that he also enjoyed. Portions are good. I could only finish half the sandwich for lunch. Omelettes and salads also look good. The place was bustling on a Sunday afternoon. read more

Pretty good bagels, but was not really impressed with anything else. One day I got the half sandwich and soup combo, and felt it could have been better. I thought the famous "chicken chili" would be good, but was one note and pretty bland. My half sandwich was a good size, but also pretty bland. The prices were more than expected for a sandwich shop. I also recently had a biz meeting where I had an artificial tasting pastry, and luke warm coffee:( Luckily, my boss had paid for the pastry and coffee, because it was far from worth the price! read more

Used to frequent this Skip's quite a bit...my husband and I lived around the corner. The food is pretty dang good...I'm a sucker for bagel sandwiches, and theirs are awesome! The Fiesta Chicken Omelette is delicious too, and the chocolate chip bagels are addicting. It's a good thing we're not right around the corner anymore, for the sake of my diet! :) My review is kind of a roller coaster...so hang on until the end. It doesnt start out great, but it ends up that way! We went back today, for the first time in a few years (we were living in California and Indiana for a while...), really craving Crosley sandwiches (Boar's Head Turkey, swiss, bacon, and tomato). Unfortunately, today, we received terrible service from the woman who took our order. I was so shocked and stunned by this experience...she was honestly just downright rude to us...no greeting, no thank you, no warm parting words at the end of the rushed transaction...it wasn't good. :( My husband kind of mumbled a thank you, which wasn't returned or acknowledged. I was so taken aback, because we have always had SUCH good service! I wrote an email to the owner, Skip :), and this is where the review turns positive. Not only did he respond quickly (the same day), he was kind enough to send us four meal coupons, and a few other coupons for the Cheezburger Cafe next door as well. He sincerely apologized for the experience we had, and I could tell it was genuine. Not only did he respond to me personally, he went out of his way to do whatever he could to make it up to us. As someone who works in the food industry, I appreciated his effort, and I WILL be back. I know that no matter how hard you try, there are going to be times when your efforts fall short. There will be instances when an employee is not doing what they're supposed to do, and will ruin what you, as a manager or owner, are trying to accomplish with your restaurant! But it's what you do when/if that happens that makes all the difference. If you work hard to show the guest that they, as an individual, matter to you, and do all you can to make it right and retain them...it shows me that you're in the business for the right reasons. Thank you, Skip. We will use the coupons, and continue visiting your restaurants when the coupons are gone! Thank you also for offering an avenue for feedback, so that we were able to be heard. It means a lot to me. :) read more

Wow can not believe I am first to review skips. This place has been here a long time. Tied with Marx for best bagels. Excellent desserts as well. read more

This place seems to always be good and the prices are really good too. You can get a huge salad and soup combo for $8. Lots of good options and a great lunch spot. read more

We love Skip's. They make fantastic sandwiches deli style. My "go to" order is an Everything Bagel with lox, green olive cream cheese, red onion and tomato. If you like egg salad, go for it! It's great! Kids get a free cookie if they color a picture. read more

Been coming for a few months/years... Where does the time go? It's awesome! Our favorite Bagel place in town. Mainly get the Sausage, Egg & Cheese with a Cinnamon Roll, and the meal is fantastic. Their Everything Bagels are Great. Haven't had a bad interaction yet. Will continue to be dinning here frequently. read more

The cashier should not seem depressed as they were for me, my bago wa col n in a bag I asked to eat in not take out...what the heck!

I grew up in the area and I used to go to skips every friday before school with a large group. 12 years later and I still frequent skips weekly. Michael is my oldest memory of skips and I still enjoy seeing him each time I visit. Awesome place! read more

My brother and I discovered this place by mistake, but I'm glad we did. Our destination was the cheeseburger place next door but they didn't have nearly as many menu options, let alone healthy ones. Anyway, we took a peek at the menu at Skip's and immediately decided to eat there. Miss D's salad and the Crosley are excellent choices. The combo option makes everything very affordable, and they don't skimp on the portions. I'll definitely make it a point to come back. read more

It was average. Was disappointed because I was looking for something more fresh and organic. It was ok food but nothing I couldn't have made here at home. read more

Let me start by saying I have had bagels from shops all over the country, and my standard is an Everything or Combo (depending where you are) with light plain cream cheese and Nova Lox. Having said that, I started going to Skip's when I moved to Deerfield Twp. in 2000. Now that I have moved, I still go, mostly out of habit, and it's a tad closer than Marx or Brueggers. The bagels are OK, a little more "bread like" than a "real" bagel, but they are tasty nonetheless...probably an average of 4 stars. Today, was my last visit. I ordered my standard, and when I jumped in the car and opened the wrapper, I was face to face with that dark brown meat (fatty meat) that you see in farm raised salmon. However, mistakes are made, so, I went back in, showed it to them and was immediately challenged by the cashier, the person that put the bagel together and even a male employee that ran from the back to the front to join in. They immediately began pulling out as much lox as they could, and loudly started telling me it was normal and edible. Yes, it IS edible, but so is fat and gristle on a steak, but it's not very pleasing to see, nor is it very palatable. In salmon, this meat is edible, but very salty and fishy and not too pleasing to the eye. Finally, I asked for a refund and they completely ignored me. They continued to talk among themselves, shooting glances my way, until finally they decided to refund the money. As a note, the entire time she was processing the refund, she was going on and on and on about how it's normal to have that. YES, it IS. But MOST bagel shops take PRIDE in what they serve and take the time to ensure that they serve the most eye appealing and best TASTING product they can. See the pictures for comparison, then, you be the judge. Whatever happened to customer service? It certainly has disappeared at Skip's. You LOST a customer Skip, but based on your employee comments, you likely don't care. . read more

Every now and then I get just a bagel with cream cheese, but it often takes them 20 minutes to just do that. Tables are often dirty and the employees seem to be a lot more focused on socializing instead of getting the food out there. read more

I have been going to Skip's for over 10 years and have always loved it. My go-to is a bagel with green olive cream cheese. When I first had it I thought it was brilliant! In the past year, they have slowly been reducing the amount of olives to the point that today I counted 7 olives in my whole bagel. It's extremely disappointing and not worth the pennies they saved because they are losing my allegiance. Now my olive craving will have to be satisfied at Breugger's. :( read more

Although I'm not a bagel guy, I always get a tasty turkey on wheat sandwich here. I also like their booth seating and the noise level is just about right for me to catch up with a friend over lunch every couple of months. read more

Awesome bagels and great coffee for breakfast. They serve Boar's Head meats for sandwiches, so that's a huge bonus. Overall, really like this place. The staff has always been great as well. read more

Had a horrible experience... it took 16 mins to get our order, people coming in after us were getting their food before us. The tables were all dirty. The ice tea tasted old, like it had been sitting there all day. We asked for real silverware for our meal and the girl behind the counter said the silverware was in the dishwasher. The food when it did come out was room temp. My bagel wasn't toasted. We thought about sending it back but it took so long to get it in the first place that we were worried it was going to take even longer to get. Service was terrible. read more

I wanted to like it. The onion bagel (which I ordered with egg, cheese and sausage) tasted burnt and left an awful taste in my mouth. The coffee operation was lackluster, including not-so-hot liquid and a slightly dirty station. I also ordered a poppie seed bagel with cream cheese and, while it was better than the onion bagel, just was plain, blah and not particularly tasty. On top of it, when I picked up my take-out order and inquired about napkins, which weren't in my paper bag and I couldn't locate about the restaurant in a carry out-type placement, I was told napkins were "on every table" and I excused myself to take some off a table while another customer munched on his breakfast. Thanks for the awkward feelings, folks. Having worked for several years in the restaurant business and realizing how bloody hard it is, I tend to be forgiving. However, after several days of contemplation, I felt I needed to warn others to not expect much. Sorry. read more

The service on 11/10/16 was bad. It was 11:30 and there was only one register open when I got in line. Eventually another register opened and I placed my bakery order of a bagel and cinnamon roll. Instead of alerting a frazzled prep staff with a shout of "bakery order", the gal almost whispered my order. Needless to say, they had no idea I had an order and I waited for almost 15 mins before I had to tell someone I had a bakery order. There was no apology for my wait. Not sure if I will ever return. read more

Aw, man. So bummed... I ordered the curry chicken salad on onion bagel (even asked the cashier did they still have it on the menu and she said yes ), but didn't realize till I got home it was just the regular chicken salad. Still good but missing that flavor I was craving! My bad for not catching it rung up as just chicken salad on the receipt. Well anyway, I used to go to this Skips a lot when I worked in this area. It has been years since I've been there so thought I would stop by. The service was friendly and fast. I saw a lot of really good looking salads and sandwiches for dine in while I waited for my order to come up. The bagel was really tasty and fresh with lots of yummy onion bits on the top. The chicken salad was generous and fresh, but like I said I had wanted the curry chicken salad so I was disappointed about that. The food quality was really good... I was reminded of how good their bagels really are. Next time in I'm in the area I will give them another shot and be sure I get that curry chicken salad. read more

Ordered a corned beef. It was small, the meat was fair, the little there was. Hardly any sauerkraut, and NO 1000 Island dressing!! WTF is the point of ordering a Reuben when you don't get any dressing? Came with an infinitesimally small serving of bought potato salad. Thank you Skip's for reminding me why I don' t eat at this overpriced, seen much better days, sorry excuse for a Deli. Why don't you change the name to Skip's bagels and stop giving the Deli business a bad name. read more
