I started going to SKA in their old location and loved both their beer, food and SKAbiques. Then they moved to their present location and now have enough room to experiment on new brews. Even in COVID days they perform greatly. And if you like dark beers, try their dark Mexican lager. Dave and Bill have done a great job and are very customer friendly and they have a great staff. We went to Ska Brewing on 8/19/2017 with the intent to eat dinner and have some craft beers at this Brewery in Durango Colorado. When we walked in we weren't greeted and were a little confused. We walked up to the bar and asked the bar tender. She said it was self seating and she told us if we wanted food we needed to walk over to another counter to order. We ordered a light and dark beer at the bar from the female bar tender. Customer service is lacking at this establishment. We decided not to order another beer due to the poor quality we tasted. We also had no plan of ordering anything to eat after the poor customer service and drinks. We had to wait for awhile after turning a second round down from the female bartender. We then heard her gosling and laughing about our question when we came in. Do you have a booth? I don't think it's a funny question. We had to get money out and motion to the other bartender to pay our tab. We paid 4.00 a beer and left a 2.00 tip, not sure why I did that! Pretty sad that a hyped up Brewery in this area provides this type of service. We left and went to Carvers Brewery in the downtown area. read more

Beer fans should stop at Ska and check it out. Not only is the beer good, but they are always hosting an event or doing something fun in the Tasting Room. Tuesday is Trivia night, and Thursday is Bar-B-Q night. Last Valentine's Day they had a lingerie show - complete with a runway and paparazzi. My faves beers: Buster Nut Brown Ale - nutty, reminds me of Newcastle Brown Ale Steel Toe Stout - milky, creamy yumminess Ten Pin Porter - malty goodness Pinstripe Red Ale - my go-to bar beer. As a red it's good, but not good enough to make you wanna slap your mama Ska is also heavily involved in the community. They sponsor the local Roller Derby Team and lend their name to many events. So now you can be a lush and feel good about giving your money to a company that has a positive impact on the community. Beer is now a community service. You gotta love that. . read more

It's a very cool set up with a great open bar area with your standard elevated bar tables and big, long (that's what she said) communal cafeteria type tables. You can buy their beer here out of refrigerated cases along with yeast for you homebrewing types. I'm not sure what is in the upstairs area ordinarily but when I was here for the SSWC it was filled with artwork/sculpture and it was awesome. read more

We were looking for a nice place for a birthday lunch for a group of 8 with two young kids and two dogs. They were somewhat busy on the patio but it was the end of lunch so most people were leaving. they sat us at a table (picnic table) that had seen better days. This table so was warped so bad I couldn't even rest my beer on it as it would have fallen. It was pointing up too. The high chairs were wobbling as the ground was part of the street. Then a bunch of people left and I asked if we could sit at these two rectangle tables right next to each other and we would put them together. The hostess said they weren't allowed to move tables and said they would fall apart if we moved them. Seemed kind of weird. So I asked if I could take a chair so we could fit better around the picnic table. She said I could take one. So I took one and as I took it and started walking to the table my family said that she made a face and rolled her eyes. The waitress wasn't great. She barely kept tabs on us. She wasn't happy when we asked to split the tab. Service was super slow. Two hours and most of us were there just to drink. The wind came in hard and picked up two umbrellas and one of poles hit another customer in the back of the head or back. She screamed owww. The staff seemed very casual about it like no big deal and they didn't really attend to her as quickly as I thought most people would. The next day we went to steam works brewery and had a way better experience with better food and beer. read more

SKA beer is fabulous....this is why one comes here. Compared to a couple of breweries in Durango, this place has a little more ambience. It's pet friendly, serves food, and has a kids menu. The adult menu was reasonable. I thought their specials ...today beer brat & kraut with chips or fries 8 bucks and their happy hour beer special for 2 bucks.....great dinner for 10 dollars. Best Happy Hour specials....2 bucks for a pint of their happy hour beer which each day they select one white and one dark. SWEET-totally awesome for us CUSTOMERs ....for really great craft beer. Kids menu was very decent.....4-6 dollars range from 12 inch pizzas to hamburgers & hot dogs and their pizzas were awesome. Dog friendly......had an outside patio with tables and chairs. Samplers were only 5 bucks for 5 samples. The Decadent Imperial IPA was absolutely delicious and my favorite. We also love, love the Modus Hoperandi IPA which was awesome and lucky for Durango there are certain restaurants that serve this on tap. Sweet! Then Ska brews another fab brew Buster Nut Brown....STOP can't take all this fun. My opinion is this .....Durango has 5 breweries and only 3 to really mention ...this is a must visit if you love craft beer. Special mention DMR -Purgy's outside bar serves SKA.....Salute! read more

What could possibly be more fun than to mix Ska music and culture with beer? Going to Ska Brewing Company would be a start! I have several beers that I really like that is put out by Ska! I really like their Blonde, the IPA and their Red. I don't often make it to Durango and that is very sad because I miss out going to this brewery more times than I want to admit. The silver lining to the cloud is that Ska is popular and big enough that they distribute their beer practically through all of Colorado. So every time you want Ska you don't have to buy airline ticket to go to Durango or plan to drive for eight hours one way. Being in Northern Colorado and Durango being in Southern Colorado it is approximated that a one way drive is eight hours prairies and mountain terrain which may make the time longer depending on the weather. That is why trips to Durango do not happen often and I go to the store to get my Ska fix. Like most brews going to the brewery itself gives you the best tasting beer and Ska is no exception! Ska also puts out great t-shirts that are of course Ska influenced. You can also get their clothes on their website for those of us who are distancely challenged! After a 12 hour drive from California we stopped here to grab lunch and they did not disappoint. We had the Green Pizza which was incredible. I love Ska beer and recently checked out the actual brewery for my birthday pre-game celebrations. My beer was outstanding (I went for the cask conditioned Decadent... ZING. SO ZING), as it always is, canned, bottled, or fresh out the tap. The beer slingers were nice, nice, nice and the place is good looking, clean, and open. They also serve pretzels and we found one that was broken and shaped EXACTLY like my boyfriend's ear. Not only did I think this was amazing, but so did the two ladies behind the counter. Loved our Ska experience. During our recent vacation we visited two microbreweries in Durango. Ska was actually recommended by the young woman at the downtown tourist info booth. I asked her about the microbreweries around town, then I asked her if she like beer and which one she might visit. She gave us great directions, because getting there can be a little tricky. I had a 5 beer sampler. They had a super selection and all 5 ranged from very good to excellent :) LOVED the Decadent IPA the best with a little more maltiness that the typical IPA...but at 10% abv the sampler size was it for me because I really wanted to remember this wonderful experience. Super atmosphere, very comfortable decor and a food trailer for those wanting a light meal or snake. The staff was great too. Just had to have a pint glass from here, so I ordered a pint special, buy the beer-take home the glass. Thoroughly enjoyed the Modus Hoperendi (6.8 abv APA), as the bartender packed up a clean glass she stuffed several Ska stickers in the bag too, smiled and announce it was "Gorilla Marketing" Thank you Durango Tourist Info Lady, so glad I didn't miss this place! read more

SKA is pretty great. Great beer, hands down. Their tasting room has now been transformed into a snack-bar... I wouldn't really call it restaurant. The "container" is a good concept and food was desperately needed to balance out the beer consumption, but now the place seems to be overly crowded, loud, and not as pleasant a place to hang out... unless it is warm enough to go outside and chill. My head hurts after an hour being in this place because of all the sound-reflective surfaces assaulting my ears. All the steel, concrete and glass in the room doesn't absorb a single sound, it all comes boring into your head like a train. That's a sign of my decaying body. Alas. But fair warning to anyone else that may be sensitive to loud sounds in an enclosed room. I will continue to purchase SKA beer. It is awesome. This place needs to rethink a few things before I hang out regularly. read more

Just as I remembered it, Ska is FANTASTIC! Ever since my last trip here last summer, I have fallen in love with Ska's Blonde Dubbel beer. It was awesome to have one fresh off the tap again. My sister and a friend of ours sat in the shaded patio area and enjoyed a beer in the middle of the afternoon. I walked away with some more stickers, coasters, a Ska pint glass and a t-shirt for my boyfriend. Not much more to say besides WOO-HOO! If you are a beer drinker, or even a part time beer drinker, this should definitely be a destination when you come to Durango! read more

Seriously though whenever my friends and I go we are usually the only non-white people in there. What's up with that? Also sometimes I feel like the bar tenders always serve us last. Coincidence? Probably... But still! Other downside is the hours. Closes at 8?! And sometimes earlier?! What?! BUT the beers are damn delicious. They have a great selection of stouts and IPAs and blondes mmmm. Their food is also pretty on point. I usually go for the chicken wings cause that's the kinda grrrl I am, but their sandwiches are pretty good too. Hmm what else... Fun atmosphere. My husband and I have enjoyed Ska beer for a while now, so we were excited to come to this brewery. We were extremely disappointed, however, as Ska brewing has poor service, mediocre food, and an unappealing atmosphere. To start with service, we asked to order two flights of beer but were told that they were out of flight glasses. Our waitress suggested we order samples instead, which we did. The samples came out in flight glasses so we were extremely confused about why we couldn't just order a flight. Our waitress then delivered a flight to another table about five minutes later. After ordering our first drink, we waited 15 minutes for these to come out. Please note that we went on a Wednesday in the early afternoon, so it was very much an off time and none of the staff were swamped with customers. We put in our order, but had to wait another 20-25 minutes for our food to come out. A table that came in about 30 minutes after we did received their food at the same time we did. Our waitress never brought us silverware, did not ask how our food was, and did not come back to take additional drink orders. Instead, she spent considerable time chatting with people at the two other occupied tables indoors. When we finally got our food, we got the Legion (a daily special) and a Jerk Chicken sandwich, both sandwiches were bland and lackluster. They were served with a skimpy amount of fries for the price point. The atmosphere at Ska attempts to be industrial, but lacks any personality. It felt like we were eating in a semi decorated warehouse. Not worth the hype. Just buy the beer and go elsewhere. read more

I like Ska beers. They aren't my favorite but when I was in Durango last month, I still made a point of stopping in to check out the brewery. I have visited a TON of breweries, and this one ranks about last. Now, the tasting room is very nice. The big long tables are comfy for groups and I love the outdoors area. The tour, however, was a phone-it-in, uninspiring, joyless venture. The "tour guide" was a true blonde for sure (I say that as the blondest person ever born outside of Norway). She started by taking us out front and pointing out.... the front of the building!?! From there, she spent five more minutes saying obvious things, acting bored, and not knowing the answers to any questions. It was really sad. I like brewery tours. That's why I come. A brewery isn't just a place to get a beer, but where you can enjoy a beer and get educated at the same time. Ska Brewing left me cold. read more

Where do I even start!! SKA BREWING!!!! It is my favorite place in Durango no doubt.....Ska Brewing- the actual building is amazing! it is in the industrial park of Durango and has that industrial modern feel to it without being pretentious- Ska has a great beer-garden outside with grass for kids to play on and covered seating- there is a stage as well for music which is always fun on the famous "SkaBQues" in the summertime. They also have a fabulous taqueria on site - a local place "Zia" that is housed out of a remodeled airstream trailer. THE BEER!= the beer at Ska Brewing is Bliss...best beer on the planet in my true opinion- true blonde, pinstripe, modus, decadent, ESB are all good picks. If you like hoppy herbal tasting beers go for the MODUS!!! and if you are there in the summer and lucky enough to catch it while its still around- try the MEXICAN LOGGER- delish! and the ladies will put an orange in your pint glass with it. A+ bartenders too. The Bar/tasting room itself is really amazing, very spacious, a beautiful bar!!! extra long bar and flat screen tv.s to watch games.....and some great local snacks offered to buy too. They usually have a smaller keg thats tapped of something special that the brewers whipped up or even a guest beer. If theres someone around to give you a tour they totally will and its quite the operation and growing constantly!!! Theres music on certain nights inside and outside and lots of sick merchandise to purchase- which is actually one of my fave parts about SKA- the artwork on the labels and merchandise is one of a kind. Day of the dead, punky, pinup style art. SKA is by far the best brewery in Durango- great beer, great ambience, yummy local tacos and music!!! it is not on main ave so you have to make an effort to get in your car and drive 5 min past main ave to see it, but totally worth it!!! The Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory is across the street too! :) P.S.- the ladies that work behind the bar are all so very sweet every time I go in there- they have great attitudes and lovely senses of humor. I love Ska Beer. It is my favorite brewery ever. I credit them for me finding out what good beer is all about. I miss Ska Beer as I can only get it when I venture back to Colorado to visit family. On the wife and my last visit to Durango we weren't able to make it out to the new Beer hall. I was very bummed. I cannot judge the brewery staff now, but I'd imagine they've not changed much since I lived in Durango. However, the beer just keeps getting better and better. My two favorites True Blond (my favorite beer of all time) and Pinstripe, are still two of my favorite beers of all time. Due to frequently visiting Colorado I've been able to try a couple of the special brews, like the True Blond Dubbel (shut the front door good) and the Snowdown specials. One of the many reasons I love Ska is that they don't settle. They are always trying out something new. I cannot wait until the come just a bit further west so I don't have to beg my family to bring out the beer on their road trips, or to pack my car even fuller on road trips to Colorado. read more

Awesome beer in a very fun, friendly environment, what more could you ask for? Well better hours. That's my only real gripe, as both times I was able to visit recently, it closed at eight, and was farily well dead by seven, as I rolled up. When i first got to Durango, and started researching breweries, I noticed that several were clustered together in the touristy old downtown area. But one jumped off the map at me, as it was in an industrial park roughly behind Walmart. I knew this had to be the place for me, as a number of the best breweries I've visited have been located similarly. I was lucky enough to come by at a time when their once-a-year wet hop IPA "Hoperation Ivy" was on tap. What a lovely IPA, with a background of subtle flavor unlike any beer I've tried. Several others I tried were also quite good, but this IPA was truly world class. The staff was very friendly, and even treated me to an impromptu brewery tour. Any time I'm in southwestern Colorado (the most scenic park of the state), I will certainly make time to pull into Ska Brewery. read more

This place is great. Stopped here while in Durango. I know I've seen their brews being sold around town, but I really liked stopping in here as they had some cask brews, and many things not normally sold in the bottle in their seasonal variety, and I always love picking up things you can't find in a normal Texas retailer. It is definitely a working brewery - it's a little bit off the main road in a more industrial area, but has a great warm environment. If you have never been, and are going with someone just get a 2 taster - it allows you to taste all of their beers in sampler amounts. Right by their beer cooler, they also had a tap for their root beer, or ginger beer, or whatever other non-nonalcoholic beverage they were brewing, so you could go taste that as well on your own if you need a little refresher sans booze. If you are in Durango, this is a place to visit! read more

The WORST tacos ever!!!! The service was awful. It took 30 minutes to get our food and when we did it was ice cold! ( 90 degrees outside) Not sure how they managed that.? We were road tripping through Durango and stumbled upon a yoga class upstairs. It was a great way to stretch after a day in the car so I would highly recommend that if you're there on a Monday night. Finally, SKA has rightfully earned their five stars. This place churns out phenomenal beer that captures the true epitome of the Durango microbrew culture. Not only is their Pinstripe Red Ale the ever-present Durangoan beer of choice (and delicious to boot) , but they've churned out a bunch of amazing beers recently to earn my beer-loving respect (for example, the autumn seasonal Mole Stout and their recent Rude Boy Lager). Finally, every monday SKA hosts perhaps the coolest Durango event of the week - Happy Hour Yoga! For $10, you get the cheapest hour of of yoga in town, as well as a pint of beer. I went to Ska at the end of April. I did not do the tour, but wanted to at least try their beer. I was really impressed with the Pin Stripe Red Ale and the Buster Nut Brown. The atmosphere is awesome, they are in a huge warehouse in an industrial area. The brewery is definitely off of the beaten path from the downtown Durango area, but was definitely worth it. I enjoyed their beer, but was not impressed with the girls who were working there. They were having their own conversations with each other and not paying attention to their paying customers. We were going to buy another round and buy some souvenirs to take home, but since they didn't really seem to care, we took our business elsewhere. I will definitely go back to Ska for a tour the next time I head out to Durango, but I hope their staff is a little more attentive to the people who keep them in business. read more
