Like others, the local distillery is always on our list to visit. Ryan and his friend Zack were fun to talk to and patiently and expertly convinced us about their products. Their enthusiasm was infectious and exactly what small business is about. We bought a bottle of Cinder Dick bourbon for our beach sundowners and managed to pack in luggage with no breakage. Zack gave Paul a tour of the action behind the scenes while I tested the vodka. It was great. I wish I could have had some vermouth with it but they have to make it in order to sell it. Have a little nibble of something before you go - maybe a plate of ramen so the spirits have something to hold onto. Here is a picture of the boys - check out their delight in us stopping by. We went to Durango Craft Spirits in the pursuit to fill our our Colorado Spirits Trail book. We've visited many distilleries and never know what to expect - a warm welcome with conversation, or a quick order to take our drinks and move on. We were pleasantly surprised when we were able to talk to the owner/master distiller and his wife - Mike and Amy. They are very real people, making spirits because it is thier passion. We were even filming for our YouTube channel and they were kind enough to speak with us on camera. It is one of the few places on the trail that we ended up buying a bottle. Firstly, this place is cool. Love the whole vibe here and the games available. The staff is really friendly and well informed. Secondly, I just did not enjoy this liquor. The vodka had a distinctly earthy, grassy flavor. The other 2 were just ok to me. I would have purchased if they were maybe 1/3 of what they cost, but they were not worth $60 to me. Did we have a great time tasting and imbibing at Durango Craft Spirits. The woman tending, the wife of the owner, was engaging, kind, and down to earth. That made sense when I found out she was from Northern Illinois and her husband was from Wild Rose, Wisconsin. I love Wisconsin and the midwest, which my reviews make evident. I had a couple of drinks with their well made Spoiled Dove Vodka, but when I tasted the Durango Craft Cinder Dick Bourbon Whiskey, I was beside myself! That was one of the smoothest, best tasting dark whiskeys that has gone down my weathered and ancient chute. Wow! Wowee! We spent two hours at Durango Craft, talking and sharing with the bartenderess and a patron. Intelligent and progressive, the conversation was an elixir for my withering soul. Durango is a fun and happening city growing exponentially. The word is out. Go visit before Durango changes. Every cool place eventually does. It is sad. Discovery isn't always for the best. In the name of all that is shopping local in Durango, you need to check this place out. Owners Amy and Michael have busted their butts (and likely their wallets) over the last year to create a very cool and inviting space to distill some craft spirits and allow you to sit and sip at their custom hand-made bar (which is absolutely beautiful oak with a dark finish!). Starting with a junked out space, these folks demo'd and reno'd this into an amazing space that will distill some fine spirits for years to come. I have to say that they spared no expense, as even the bathrooms are a special space here. As Amy told me, (as she poured the wife an I a complimentary shot of vodka - which was smooth and very good indeed!) they are starting with a vodka (named Soiled Doves as a tip to the days when a local brothel existed in Durango - but that's another story entirely....), with a bourbon coming out in next few months and a whiskey to follow 6-9 months after that (due to aging requirements). This is good news for me, as the whiskey will be ready for my next trip to Durango in Summer 2017! For this stop in, we ordered a Silver Mountain Mule (legit indeed, as it was served in a copper mug!) and a Jack Dempsey - both of which were excellent! Oh, and don't forget that they also have vodka for sale on sight and some very cool tee shirts to boot. Cheers! read more

We wandered in here by accident and are so glad we did! The interior is beautiful and you can see right into where the alcohol is made which is super cool. A local couple own and operate the distillery and the adorable, sweet wife (Amy) acts as the bartender as well. She and her husband were super friendly and accommodating. When we sat at the bar Amy immediately served us little tasters of their current product, Soiled Doves Vodka. So the idea of drinking liquor straight freaked me out, but I made myself take a sip and it was really great! It didn't burn or taste harsh at all and was very smooth, which was a pleasant surprise. They have a very thoughtful cocktail menu. All the cocktails have names based on the history and people from the area and the menu includes little stories about their inspiration. So you got a fun history lesson with your alcohol! I had some sort of raspberry julep and my husband had their version of a Moscow mule. Moscow mule's aren't really my cup of tea, but my husband really enjoyed it and my drink was wonderful. I sort of expected it to be really sweet, but it was perfect with super fragrant fresh mint. When we get to go back to Durango we will definitely stop by again to try the whiskey they are planning on distilling. read more

Amazing owner, distillery, and spirits. We were on vacation and showed up after they were closing down. Michael (owner) welcomed us in and let us have a few drinks on him. All the spirits are easy sippers and delicious straight or with any sort of mix. Was great to hear the locality of all the grains and ingredients used in the distilling process. Nice little spirit distillery and tasting room on Main Street. I absolutely love the meaning behind the names of their spirits and their drinks, as well as the history tidbits included in their menu. I lived in Durango for 6 years and didn't know half the things I learned by reading the menu! The ambiance is also very nice and well thought-out, and super cozy. Drinks are typically priced for this town, which is still a welcome relief from Denver prices. Drinks at $8-10 are hard to come by in the city! I chose The Butler ($9), which combines the Soiled Doves vodka with grapefruit juice, pomegranate, and lime. I wasn't sure what to think about it, to be honest, as I didn't really taste the grapefruit, the pomegranate, or the lime. But after sampling the vodka on its own, I finally knew what the drink tasted like - and it tasted like vodka. Now I am not a regular vodka drinker, but I have definitely had it before, and I've never had a variety that actually tasted like anything, so this was new. I was not a fan, but the choice was either vodka or moonshine, and I didn't like the moonshine at all. E got The Porter ($10), which is basically their version of a Manhattan. Although they only bottle the Moonshine and Vodka for distribution, they keep a small amount of lightly-aged whiskey in the tasting room for making drinks. E's was pretty good, which tells me their whiskey is solid, as there really isn't much else to the drink! The owners told us their bourbon will be released in December 2017, which I'm looking forward to! Will definitely have to try a bottle. The tasting room and distilling seem to be run solely by a husband and wife team, which is so awesome. They were very nice and responsive. We also got to chat with some friendly tourists who joined us at the bar. Maybe next time I'll go for a Moscow Mule, as I hear they are the best in town, and feel a bit differently about this place. For now they are solidly A-OK. I'll be keeping an eye out for that bourbon, though! read more

This place is truly a gem! We were greeted by Amy and Michael immediately. The little patio they have setup brought us in, but we decided to sit at the bar. We got a shot of vodka to start, and it's delicious. Very smooth and I love the bottle. We sat at the bar and talked with Michael about the Rockies, concerts and Durango. He's a true local with lots of flair! Amy made us 2 cocktails and we loved them. The mule is really good! The atmosphere inside is cool- it's laid back, but nice. Open tables and a big bar to belly up at. As well, the little patio outside is great- definitely brings people in. I hope to see Soiled Dove vodka in Denver soon...as we toured through Durango we saw lots of bars carry this vodka, so they're doing a great job of selling to their local community. With all the breweries in town (which I love!), Durango Craft Spirits is a great addition to the scene, providing inventive drinks with locally made spirits. And, it's right in the heart of town, too! I've been vacationing in Durango for a few years now and always make it a point to stop in for a drink or two. They are always consistently good and creative and the service is great. The place is cozy and intimate, so it can get that crowded feeling with a small group of people. But, I've never found that to be a problem. Everyone is friendly. In Durango, you never meet a stranger. One of the things I love about Durango Craft Spirits is the history. The owners really themed their offerings well, putting that personal local touch that brings it home. I had no idea about Jack Dempsey's sister until coming here! Their menu is like a little pamphlet on late 19th-early 20th century history of Durango. This is a must-stop on your visit.
