While we love their beer, we had one of the best meals we've had on a three week road trip at Ska. We also bought their beer to take home, because we never see it in Southern California. We've never been crazy about So Cal's typically heavily hopped and overly bitter IPAs, so Ska's IPAs were a revelation with IBUs in the 30s. Best burger I've had in awhile. So fun to try all the samples of beer. Took home a few of our favs: Mile Stout, Rye Barrel- aged Russian Stout and the Blonde Dubbel. The wings were cooked perfectly which is so rare but so bummed that they were flavorless. I pine for well cooked wings in the traditional buffalo sauce but have yet to find them in Durango. Ska! Get you some buffalo sauce! Great service too. A lot of screaming kids which wasn't expected or stellar for a brewery but we should've come later to avoid the Gymboree. Dog-friendly large outdoor seating, with a pet area off the parking lot. There is not much in terms of dog-friendly dining in Durango, this place is the best after doing a drive by of other options. Friendly staff, Great beer, food unique and delicious. I had the cobb salad (they do a wonderful unique version) with grilled chicken and the hubs had the pastrami sandwich (also their own unique delish version). Best brewery recommendation we could have possibly gotten. I am so happy we found this place! Not only was the staff some of the most friendly people I have ever met, they kept bringing us samples (that we didn't even have to ask for) based off of what we were drinking, and I found my favorite beer ever! We also ordered a pizza, and when that pizza came out super spicy (I didn't think to ask for no Chiles on it) I went back in to purchase a new one. The staff member asked why I was purchasing a new one ( I didn't ask for a free replacement because it was my fault) and the staff member immediately told me to bring it back in for a replacement. So not necessary but SO appreciated. Thankful we found such a neat place with such nice people. Disappointed in service and atmosphere, however no complaints on the beer, it was good! Not from Durango, so we thought like most breweries these days it would be sit down/server kind of place. We asked the girl if we could sit outside with our dog and just grab a seat, she said "yeah" and then proceeded to pass by us multiple times on the patio with no explanation of the process as we sat with no menus. I get its self serve but maybe the employees could be more welcoming and offer menus and anticipate first timers. Just felt like she was aware we hadn't been there before but didn't bother, another group did the same thing then finally walked in to figure it out. Moral of the story is: go in, grab a beer menu and a food menu, order from register for food, order from bar for beer..totally weird, it's like a fast food esque order system and you'll pay two separate tabs for food and beer. Plus they use PAPER PLATES and plastic ware, it's just all very cafeteria and not appealing. The bartender was oblivious and had her back to the bar, stood there for at least a minute or so, tried to speak to get her attention and failed, 2 other customers approached and she finally turned around baffled she had customers. Just made for an even more uncomfortable/don't feel welcome here vibe. The patio was awful because it was crawling with kids/babies, crying and lurking around our table. I understand the brewery can't do anything about that but it just wasn't enjoyable or a relaxing beer sit while on the road, be aware. Wouldn't return, if ever in Durango again may try other breweries unless I'm entirely desperate! read more

All around great experience. Walk up food options were surprisingly upscale and satisfying. I had the "Big Billy"(?) pastrami. They smoked the pastrami and it gave it a totally different taste - Smokey, fresh and melts in your mouth. Pickle and fries delish. I've been a Ska beer fan for a long time. I didn't stay here long, but I had enough time to get a flight for $5 (5 two-ounce pours, I think) and a $3 pour of Modus Hoperandi. In general, I don't buy Ska beers back in New Mexico as many are average at best--- Modus Hoperandi being the one exception--- but I found at least three beers on tap I would have enjoyed drinking a pint of: Estival Cream Stout, Ten Pin Imperial Porter, and the Busta Nut Brown. The first two were good, the latter respectable. Anyway, I liked the daily specials, including the $3-all day pours on the day I visited and the space was pleasant enough. Our Earthwatch Expedition very much enjoyed our stay at the Beaver Creek Youth Camp near South Fork. The only downside was that this Methodist facility did not allow alcohol to be consumed on the premises. Most of us respected that position, but to be considered "true" geologists, at least an occasional beer was required. That notion was confirmed at the nearby Wolf Creek Liquors, where the owner perked up when she found out who we were. Apparently, a group of geologists recently stopped and bought a U-Haul trailer full of beer. So the daily plan was to buy beer and ice in the morning, and at the end of the day, stop at a nearby creek or reservoir and enjoy afternoon "cocktails". My parents have been doing this for all 55 years of their marriage, and I figured that similar responsible fellowship was just more of a good thing. Our beer of choice was the SKA Pinstripe Red Ale in bottles and Modus Hoperandi in cans. It's great micro-brew and it was a relief to have such great choices beyond the "yellow" beer for the masses. Our SKA choices danced with our taste buds at the end of a long day, refreshed our energy, facilitated some really interesting and insightful discussions, and put us in a "hoppy" mood for another fabulous Beaver Creek dinner. read more

Maybe I was expecting something different but the ambiance of this place didn't do it for me. It felt too sterile, lacking character, and just generic in a lot of ways. I was hoping to have a connection but, in the end, it just wasn't there. I did get two flights of beers and, as far as that goes, the majority were good. There is a reason why Ska is pretty popular throughout the state. I was glad to have a chance to try some brews you normally don't see in stores or bars as well. I did have the Cubano sandwich with chips and I thought it was great. The other three friends I was with all hated their food so maybe i got lucky. I wanted to mention that but, in my personal experience, I loved this sandwich. I feel that if you're in Durango and into beer you owe it to yourself to go and check it out. Ska brewing is my happy place. I can't even fully articulate how much I enjoyed our afternoon here. The ESB and True Blonde are two of my favorite beers; we always keep our fridge stocked with these two. My husband and I planned our anniversary trip to Durango almost exclusively to go to Ska, so we are total fan girls! We both ordered a pint of the ESB, shared a pint of the True Blonde and also shared a flight. Unsurprisingly, everything was great. ESB is still my favorite though. There is a restaurant inside called the Container which serves up wood fired pizza and some basic bar foods. We had a margarita pizza and wings. OMG, the sauce on that pizza is ridiculously good. The beer is nothing short of wonderful! Every single beer I have tried here I have been impressed with. The service is good as well. The food is where they lack, but is anyone really coming here for the food? The pizza was not bad, but it was not good either. In fact it didn't have much taste to it all. The Green Chile Cheese fries were a huge no go! Definitely would never order them again. I can't comment on anything else on the menu, but there wasn't much to choose from(could be covid related). Ska is one of the best craft breweries I've been to nationwide. I've been a fan of theirs for over a decade and would sample their beer back when they had a tiny bar near their current location. Fresh beer by the pint or to go in a growler is worth the trip. They also have their entire line-up in cans or bottles in their coolers. The environment is great and their beer tenders are super fun and friendly. Occasionally you'll have to tolerate hipster parents that let their rug-rats run around, ruining the environment while they ignore them over their beer. Like most craft beers, Ska beers are best enjoyed fresh. Unfortunately Ska has fallen into the stupid IPA craze, so a majority of their beer is "fashionably" bitter. But, they tend to go back to their roots and offer unique and old-school seasonal styles that make them at the top of the craft beer heap in my book. Also located inside is the Container Restaurant. I wrote a separate review on them. They rate 5 stars, their food is that good! My only gripe would be that I think they could offer their beer for a bit less, but I guess they have to pay for their new building or something. When they were smaller, you could grab a pint for a couple bucks, but now prepare to pay $4-5 a pint. Also, avoid Thursday nights. They usually have a band and all the local hipsters and "semi-pro" cyclist show up and peacock around with their BS attitudes. read more

This was a cool spot, and being a craft beer lover who had never been to Durango I had to put this one on the pitstop list. The beer selection on tap was great, liked the Oktoberfest A LOT, but the service was pretty spotty - especially when we asked to order some crowlers to go. It was a bummer that all the beers we wanted they weren't allowed to put into crowlers, which was very disappointing for travelers. The food inside was tasty, but a bit overpriced and the cashier was a little short with us when we asked questions (having never been here before). Definitely some room for improvement. read more

Gotta love this brewery. First time we went years ago we did the yoga and a pint night says a lot since I hate yoga. Anyway, recently went back seizing the opportunity to grab a few cold ones since they stopped distributing in the great state of Texas! It was almost refreshing to see they hadn't fallen prey to the wave of hazies. Don't get me wrong...this girl loves her NEIPAs, but once and awhile it's nice to have a pale or a stout. Mike our bartender treated us well, knew what he was doing and managed a pretty good size crowd after a powder day. We also grabbed a couple of pies from The Container. Above average pizza although my chicken voodoo pie could have been slightly more crispier and definitely more spicy for my taste buds. Cool space. Cool folks. Worth a trip. read more

Visited Ska Brewing last week while in Durango. Have been there several times over the years when in Durango. Our server was Meagan. Meagan was amazing, very friendly and outgoing. The brewery had a large selection of IPAs and Meagan provided me with several different tastes so I could decide on a beer, My wife ordered a Mule and it was excellent. Prior to leaving I mentioned to Meagan that I wanted to purchase a 6 pack to go. Once again Meagan gave me several samples so I could make a decision on my beer purchase to go. Four stars, due as much to the friendliness of the staff and the fact that they snagged me an uncapped can right off the line as to the beer itself. The Ska Brewery products are good, the tours are pleasantly small (my fiance and I were the only two), and a highly regarded Mexican food truck pulls up outside a few times a week. That makes it my kind of place. If I lived in Durango, I'd probably stop by every couple of months just to have a beer and half a dozen tacos in the spacious and airy beerhall. But since I don't live in Durango, all I can do is recommend it as a must stop for all beer enthusiasts making their way through the mountains. read more

I've debated the wording on this review for some time. We ended up here at about 9:30AM on a weekday looking for a tour. The experience was good but not the best and I've been on my share of brewery tours. Let's break it down: Atmosphere/Location: First of all let me say I love ska and I love beer so me and this brewery were a natural fit from day one. The location is pretty nifty, the brewery has its own little corner of an industrial area. The building is really cool and the design is interesting. The interior is awesome, very spacious, with a really nice bar. The Tour: The website was a little difficult to manage, I could not figure out if they did tours and I poured over the whole page. When I called a few weeks before we arrived I was told they'd maybe give us a tour, that it was first come first serve, and depended on what the brewers were doing that day. Kind of frustrating. Anyways, since we showed up so early on the day we went they were empty and happy to give us a tour. A private tour! It wasn't long but covered the basics. We got to see the canning line in action and one of the brewers gave us an un-topped Modus Hoperandi right off the line, so cool! The People: Everyone who works here was super nice, informative, and cool. I really enjoyed just hanging out with them. The Beer: The tasting flight is $5 which I thought was kind of crappy. I'm all for supporting local brewers so I handed it right over but I've been on a lot of brewery tours and this was the first one to charge for tasting flights of beer. I guess the rub here is that I just didn't like any of the Ska brews. I mean, they were alright but I didn't love any one of them. All in all, the experience here was cool but not my favorite. I love the history and philosophy behind Ska and think they run an unique business but their product is not my favorite. Still, I bought a tshirt and wear it often. I am by no means a Durango local, but I am someone who knows a good restaurant run by good hearted people, and Ska Brewing is just that. I originally found this place on Yelp, looking for good places to eat on vacation. I read somewhere that Thursdays were Ska-B-Que nights, and figured "Hm. I like Ska. I like bbq. My parents like beer. Perfect." I didn't know I was getting myself into a night of eating free food (that's right, they just decided to make dinner complementary tonight, with reduced-price beer), listening to wonderful music, and meeting friendly people. The owners are wonderful and outgoing, and from what I could smell, the beer was wonderful. I am definitely returning once I'm 21. read more

We were looking for a nice place for a birthday lunch for a group of 8 with two young kids and two dogs. They were somewhat busy on the patio but it was the end of lunch so most people were leaving. they sat us at a table (picnic table) that had seen better days. This table so was warped so bad I couldn't even rest my beer on it as it would have fallen. It was pointing up too. The high chairs were wobbling as the ground was part of the street. Then a bunch of people left and I asked if we could sit at these two rectangle tables right next to each other and we would put them together. The hostess said they weren't allowed to move tables and said they would fall apart if we moved them. Seemed kind of weird. So I asked if I could take a chair so we could fit better around the picnic table. She said I could take one. So I took one and as I took it and started walking to the table my family said that she made a face and rolled her eyes. The waitress wasn't great. She barely kept tabs on us. She wasn't happy when we asked to split the tab. Service was super slow. Two hours and most of us were there just to drink. The wind came in hard and picked up two umbrellas and one of poles hit another customer in the back of the head or back. She screamed owww. The staff seemed very casual about it like no big deal and they didn't really attend to her as quickly as I thought most people would. The next day we went to steam works brewery and had a way better experience with better food and beer. read more

We went to Ska Brewing on 8/19/2017 with the intent to eat dinner and have some craft beers at this Brewery in Durango Colorado. When we walked in we weren't greeted and were a little confused. We walked up to the bar and asked the bar tender. She said it was self seating and she told us if we wanted food we needed to walk over to another counter to order. We ordered a light and dark beer at the bar from the female bar tender. Customer service is lacking at this establishment. We decided not to order another beer due to the poor quality we tasted. We also had no plan of ordering anything to eat after the poor customer service and drinks. We had to wait for awhile after turning a second round down from the female bartender. We then heard her gosling and laughing about our question when we came in. Do you have a booth? I don't think it's a funny question. We had to get money out and motion to the other bartender to pay our tab. We paid 4.00 a beer and left a 2.00 tip, not sure why I did that! Pretty sad that a hyped up Brewery in this area provides this type of service. We left and went to Carvers Brewery in the downtown area. read more
