We have been coming to this restaurant for at least 4 years. The food was good for the "price" and the service was great, very friendly staff. We have been supporting them along with our other favorite restaurants all through Covid. Tonight we ordered our regular food; pot of tom Kai coconut soup, large white rice and an order of Paradise fried rice. The total was over $36. When we looked at the bill, the base price of the Paradise fried rice went up from $11.95 to $15.95, an almost 35% increase (along with everything else, although they are still using the old menus so you don't know how much your paying until you get the bill) I understand that times are difficult and restaurants have been especially hard hit with Covid so I could have accepted the price increase but then they also charged us $3.00 extra for the shrimp because unlike before at $11.95 that included both chicken and shrimp now it only includes one, to have both its extra. So in order for me to get the same dish as I had before at $11.95, it cost us $18.95, an increase of almost 60%!!! So not only did they increase their cost but they also give you less for more. Unfortunately I will no longer be supporting this restaurant, the value simply isn't there. read more

I came here after a long day at the hospital looking for some good comfort food and I was unfortunately disappointed. The yellow curry was so watery and the chicken didn't feel thoroughly cooked. I ate a bit then packed up the rest for home. Like an hour later my stomach started to hurt and I felt so queazy. My friend ordered the pad see ewe and it was actually good. I came here to try their lunch. I ordered the lunch special pad Thai and was pretty disappointed. I asked for spicy and when order arrived the waitress set it down for a few seconds then asked for the order back because the cook forgot to put in the chilli. A couple minutes later the order came back out. All they did was mix in the chilli. It was not spicy or flavorful at all. There we just a clump of chilli in the corner of the to go container. There were only 2 customers already eatting in the restaurant so the kitchen was not so swamped to be careless. Ordered their duck curry flavor was good however proportion of the duck was small. I only received a few pieces of what looked like shredded chicken and a few pieces of what taste like duck skin. Have been to this place twice for lunch and have not been disappointed. I have had the spicy chicken fried rice (my favorite so far) and chicken chow mein. They were both delicious and fresh. The lunch specials come with soup and salad which were okay. It also comes with wonton strips and rice. For 50 cents more you can upgrade the rice to brown rice or fried rice. My wife had the pad see yoo and it was really good. I will definitely be going back again to try other items. So many things sounded good. read more

I love going to this place! Its one of my go-tos! I come here for there lunch specials since it comes with a soup and salad and a tray. Service is quick and friendly. The food comes out fresh, hot, and delicious. Parking is a bit tight and hard to enter sometimes. Aside from that, its a great place to eat for some awesome thai food. read more

i've ordered here twice - once it was soo busy (during pandemic) that i couldn't place my order over the phone (no one was answering). i really wanted thai so i went there and ordered and waited. the phone was ringing off the hook - no wonder they couldn't answer. the food was good and despite how busy it was, the wait was reasonable. second time, i was able to call in my order and pick up. so easy and fast. i got the pad thai - not too oily, good flavor, noodles weren't all clumped together. and beef salad - not too spicy, good amount of beef, all around great flavor. i highly recommend this place. support local, average prices, above average food. yum! read more

A few weeks ago, I stopped by to grab a meal with my daughters. Food was ok. As we finished up, my daughter requested a lemonade refill from the waitress and I literally saw her pour someone's leftover lemonade in my daughter's glass. Going with the Yelp translations of these star ratings, I'm giving Sizzling Thai Kitchen a 2 star - "Meh. I've experienced better." I've been coming here since I was in elementary school, and the place has changed so many times. The name has always been the same, but there seems to be different managers, workers, and interior renovations every year or so. They change way more often than nearly every other restaurant! I still remember the days when it was a more "traditional" Thai restaurant - simple, solid cooking, and a friendly lady at the counter. Coming back today, the place has YET AGAIN changed! By God, the place looks horrendous now. The dark red walls makes the place seem more like a swanky lounge/bar than a Thai restaurant. Indeed, this place got a lot of customers for lunch - but I was wondering why the place "updates" so often - are they not doing well, or are they trying to compete with other Thai restaurants? I have no idea... They had lunch specials, so I ordered their Pad Thai lunch special. Served with a salad and soup, they give you quite a bit of food. I was shocked by how watery the salad was - water from the washed lettuce, and an entire pool of their dressing vinaigrette sauce. The soup was also pretty salty and acted as "filler." Their Pad Thai has got to be probably the sauciest Pad Thai I've had. Such a rich red-orange color, the sauce making the noodles quite heavy. I also wondered why they would serve rice with the Pad Thai order. Yes, it's a lunch special, so it comes with rice...but it doesn't make sense to provide rice with noodles. I don't know what to make of this place anymore. They are trying way too hard, with nothing exciting to show. So many changes, that I'm debating whether to return in the future or not... read more

TODAY, however, we were served RAW CHICKEN in our house special rice. No, not undercooked chicken, COMPLETELY RAW CHICKEN!!!!! This is one of my sisters favorite place to go for Thai food. This is the second time that I've joined her for their lunch special. I must admit, when I first arrived to the location I wasn't impressed by the looks of this place. You know what they say, never judge a book by its cover. Boy, did i prejudge way too soon! They are currently remodeling the exterior of the entire little plaza. It may just look more decent soon enough. Anyways, lets get down to the important stuff; the food! They offer a a lunch menu that goes on until 3pm. The portions are generous and it's at a decent price; inexpensive. So far, I've ordered their Pad Se Ew and their Shrimp/chicken Pad Thai. Both are deliciously cooked. If you are able to make it to their lunch special, then here is what you can expect: they will start you off with a small salad, followed by a small soup (has a ginger taste that I like). A few minutes after that your food is being served. Any entrée from their lunch menu is served with your choice of white rice or you can order fried rice for and additional charge of 50 cents. Not bad at all! The people are friendly and the ambiance is great. They have their walls painted in a dark red, and they always seem to have fresh flowers (which is a nice touch). If you're ever in the area and want to have decent Thai food for a reasonable price, this is the place to go. Needless to say, it is now one of the places I like to have Thai food. The salad was pretty plain, some side dressing I wasn't crazy about and the soup was some tofu something (I forgot the name) and that was much better than the salad. We also ordered some veggie egg rolls and these were probably the best out of our entire meals! Good little whole in the wall restaurant located in a strip mall. Very clean and nicely decorated. The workers are very nice and yes, they do deliver!! Can to this place after moving in about 1 mile from the location. My husband wanted to try it out. I was a little skeptical at first but once we went it, the atmosphere was very relaxing and pleasing to the eye. Everything we ordered we loved. Had to take my bf with us, she is Thai, since this was only my second time trying Thai food. We were all happy with everything we ordered. The Pad Thai was delicious! Everything was! This is my go to slot for Thai food in Downey. I usually order the pad Thai or orange chicken lunch combo. Let me tell you about the orange chicken lunch combo. Okay, so the menu says that the orange chicken is made with breast (white) meat, but if you don't constantly remind the waitress that the orange chicken is supposed to be breast meat, and if the waitress doesn't then remind the cook, you're going to get dark meat chicken. EVERY TIME I order this dish I have to remind the waitress to please remind the cook that it's sullied to be white (breast) meat. I try not to get any sense of an attitude while doing this because I am grateful that this hasn't been taken off the menu. Because since they are so hell bent on serving dark meat, you'd think they would say "F" it and take the breast meat off of the orange chicken dish on the menu. I pray that never happens LOL. Service is all smiles and I never have to wait more than the 15 minutes they quote me over the phone for picking up my order. Still my lunch break Thai food destination. :) read more

The service was excellent: I was greeted at the door and the waiter made sure my water glass stayed full and that I was doing all right during the meal. She brought the check promptly and processed my credit card fast. But The food was okay. I have tasted better Thai and worst Thai. I might go again and try something else on the menu. But my sizzling lunch special - salad, soup and BBQ platter with shrimp fried rice was okay: nothing special. It WAS lots of meat and the meat was cooked well. read more

Who knew such good Thai food could be found in Downey? I went here the other day on the way home. I had a fish ball shrimp tofu rice vermicelli soup that was awesome. Finished the entire bowl split with my uncle. Then there were two entrees--one stir fried beef with brocolli, onion, carrots...super yummy--so good i ordered one to take home. Then there was another veggie stir-fry with shrimp. Everything was very fresh and tasty. For desert I had a durian and sticky rice bathed in sweet coconut milk. It was delicious and filling. I wanted to finish it so bad but was already full from the entree. So right before anything came back up from overeating, I stopped. Pathetic little place. I ordered Thai coffee, strong but without too much ice. But I got weak coffee full of ice! Hmmm ... Being a vegetarian, I ordered Pad Thai with some veggies and tofu, instead of chicken and shrimp. What did I get? A load of plain noodles and 4 tiny pieces of tofu! I actually counted them. There were four little pieces! I was not going to complain but it was impossible to wolf down all the noodles despite trying to make them spicy by adding chili sauce.l I brought up enough courage to complain. The lady came over and counted the little tofu pieces! But to their credit, they did bring me a small bowl full of plain and soggy tofu, not properly fried. This was really cool, they have a feature on Yelp that allows you to order (online) from certain businesses. This was one of them and so we figured that we would give it a try. Hey, you don't know if you don't try, right? Right!! We ordered online (we've been to their restaurant before and knew a few favorites we loved) and even paid online, no problem at all. You leave them your phone number for any clarification; if they need you they will call you. So about 5 minutes after ordering we got a call from the restaurant. It was one of the staff wanting to know if this was what we ordered...she then proceeded to read off our whole order just as we had ordered it. Everything was correct, but she said there was a small problem because we had ordered Pad See Eiw with duck and they were out of duck. Would we like to choose a substitution?? We did, and we chose the BBQ'd pork. She was so apologetic about the lack of duck and told us, "We will give you extra BBQ pork!" Which was completely unnecessary but nice just the same. The waitress then mentioned that they would be delivering the order but it would be about 45 minutes, was that ok? (They are about 15 minutes from our house) Since part of the convenience is getting it delivered we were OK with having to wait a bit. Sure enough, just at the 45 minute mark, there was a knock on our door and a guy with some big bags of delicious-smelling food. When you pay they work out the delivery fee (a couple of bucks) and a small gratuity but you can give the guy another few bucks if you are so inclined, we WERE because we were grateful. Food was delicious as usual, and tasted at least as good as when we eat in the restaurant. Summer rolls were fresh, delicious, and yummy. They sent all the accompanying sauces and they were yummy as well. As promised, the noodles had oodles of extra BBQ pork in them and it was really good as well. The only meal that we weren't thrilled over was the "Growling Tiger" or something but basically it was just grilled flank steak with some raw veggies. Not a very filling or tasty dish, and the steak was rather chewy. We won't get that one again. On a side note, i like very much the feature available on the Yelp app where you can order directly from the Yelp app. It might be through Eat Street but I don't remember. I will check it out. I have heard that Uber will be partnering with Eat Street as well to deliver food, and maybe this is one of those, not sure though. Either way, a great invention, don't you think?? read more
