I kept it simple since I wasn't exactly sure what I was craving, back to the basics, as they say. I ordered a simple lomo saltado, since I know exactly what it is and what I should be getting. The meat was well-seasoned. The fries did come out crispy, but they soaked up the sauce really quickly and got soggy fast. The sauce itself wasn't really my favorite as it leaned a bit too sweet and was a bit too watery for my taste. That said, the portions are definitely generous. Sweet, kind customer service everytime I visit. I def wanna travel to Peru when I visit here bc of the bright colorful murals and beautiful art all around.. on top of the wonderful flavors that they provide. I need more Peruvian dishes to try because I love getting the same dishes. The waitress suggested medium well for my steak and it was a 9.5/10, I think I shoulda did well done because it was still a lil red and I'm barely getting used to that kinda chew since I grew up vegan. Been coming to Fernando's for years for their lomo saltado. It used to be a perfect meal however after 2020 the meat quality hasn't been the same. Though it's on the pricier side, the lomo is still worth getting. It's well seasoned, the fries soak up the savory sauce without getting too soggy and they give a decent portion size for this particular meal. I've dined in a few times and the service is not the best but I'll usually order to go. Recently they stopped including complimentary bread for take out orders so that was a bummer. Still one of the better spots around, just not what it used to be. read more

I love this place, live around the block so it's very local. The seafood rice is my favorite dish, you can have it with yellow rice or Asian style, I switch it up. The bread is usually good but they didn't toast it the last time I went.. We just had the empanadas and the rellas (potato and meat fried balls) bomb digity!!! I'm so mad. I pretty much grew up in Downey, lived her for years as an adult and worked nearby and I just discovered this place. So many years wasted not having the excellent Peruvian food. Everything was delicious. If I have to pick one from this visit, I'd choose the Arroz con Mariscos as the top dish. Don't forget to use the green sauce that's on the table. It does have a kick and I usually can't take it, but I kept going back to it. It was addicting. The service was wonderful and the server was helpful and friendly. I cannot wait to go back. Absolutely love Fernando's! They open at 11 but I showed up early one day and they still gave me wonderful service. The Pollo soltado is delicious and the portions are sooo big! I came to Fernando's hungry... and I left questioning my ability to walk upright. Hands down the BEST Peruvian food I've ever eaten. I ordered the ají de gallina, the pescado a la parrilla, and the ceviche de pescado which in hindsight was ambitious but spiritually necessary. The ají de gallina was creamy, rich, perfectly seasoned, and basically wrapped me in a warm Peruvian hug. The pescado a la parrilla was grilled to perfection, juicy, flavorful, and not even remotely dry (as grilled fish sometimes dares to be). And the ceviche de pescado? Bright, citrusy, fresh, and so good I briefly considered ordering another one "for the table" (the table was just me). By the end of the meal, I wasn't walking out... I was gently rolling toward the exit like a very happy, well-fed burrito. Portions? Generous. Flavor? Unreal. Regrets? Only that I wore jeans. If you're thinking about going, do it. Lived in Downey all my life and usually go to Aji Verde in Paramount because it is really good but I said let's give them a chance cause it's closer. It's a no for me. The yucca was soft from the inside and bistec a lo Pobre was asked to be done medium rare and got it medium well no seasoning and was bland the Maracuya was not fresh at least it didn't taste like that. The only reason they are getting 2 stars is because their green sauce was fucken amazing so delicious and made everything taste better. Service 6/10. I've been coming to Fernando's for 15 + years--yes, 15 +years! Why? Because it's by far some of the best Peruvian food I've ever tasted. The flavors, the green sauce they give you, the service--everything is top-notch. And let's not forget how authentic the owner and her son are. This family-owned business has been around for almost 20 years for a reason. Fernando's is a homey Peruvian spot hidden in the corner of a strip mall. My friend and I needed to meet halfway from OC and SGV and this seemed to work for what we needed. I arrived first - was welcomed and seated right away. They start you off with an herby and fresh aji verde sauce and small slices of French bread - save it to eat with your meal! I had the parihuela seafood soup so it was a perfect match with the soup. The soup had plentiful pieces of varied seafood, shrimp and fish, but the broth was a bit bland. My friend got some kind of fried fish - if you like fish n chips, you will love these crispy little nuggets! Overall restaurant is comfortable and staff is cordial. The portions are pretty generous too. If you are in the area, at least try it out! read more
