Lived in Downey all my life and usually go to Aji Verde in Paramount because it is really good but I said let's give them a chance cause it's closer. It's a no for me. The yucca was soft from the inside and bistec a lo Pobre was asked to be done medium rare and got it medium well no seasoning and was bland the Maracuya was not fresh at least it didn't taste like that. The only reason they are getting 2 stars is because their green sauce was fucken amazing so delicious and made everything taste better. Service 6/10. Oh was about to forget the prices are high compare to other places. read more

I've been coming to Fernando's for 15 + years--yes, 15 +years! Why? Because it's by far some of the best Peruvian food I've ever tasted. The flavors, the green sauce they give you, the service--everything is top-notch. And let's not forget how authentic the owner and her son are. This family-owned business has been around for almost 20 years for a reason. I wish I could get free food for leaving this review--ha ha ha--but honestly, as long as they stay in business, that's all that matters! Give them a try. Fernando's is a homey Peruvian spot hidden in the corner of a strip mall. My friend and I needed to meet halfway from OC and SGV and this seemed to work for what we needed. I arrived first - was welcomed and seated right away. They start you off with an herby and fresh aji verde sauce and small slices of French bread - save it to eat with your meal! I had the parihuela seafood soup so it was a perfect match with the soup. The soup had plentiful pieces of varied seafood, shrimp and fish, but the broth was a bit bland. My friend got some kind of fried fish - if you like fish n chips, you will love these crispy little nuggets! Overall restaurant is comfortable and staff is cordial. The portions are pretty generous too. If you are in the area, at least try it out! read more

Favorite Peruvian spot in the area! I have dined in a couple of times on the weekend and have always noted that the food does take a little long to come out. Still, it's not really a problem as long as you have good company. The interior is pretty cute and themed too. For this reason though, I do tend to order for pickup more often. The food itself is fantastic; my go-to is the pollo saltado. The flavors go so well together and I would recommend any of their saltados to anyone. I also really like ordering the fried banana/platanos and a box of alfajores for dessert. Also! The calamari is really good, especially with the red onions they serve it with. Other than the wait being long, I think this place will remain on my rotation of places I like to eat for a long time. Parking: free lot. Plenty of space. Service: it was semi-busy on a sat mid afternoon that I went. Only one person taking orders, but still nice and fast service. Food: they start you off with some pretty good bread. We got the ceviche, which was really good. I typically don't like it when they do add unpeeled shrimp just cuz I'm lazy. First I got to say the restaurant was nice and clean when you come in, very important to mention. Second the service was amazing we had Liliana as our waitress and she was very attentive. And third and most importantly the food was 10/10 I got myself a bistec a lo pobre and it came with fried egg, rice, fries, fried plantain, fresh salad with a very yummy steak. I went back a 2nd time that same week & have been a handful of times since then. I've had the Fettuccine à la Huancaina & the Ají de Gallina and they were both so flavorful! My son loves Peruvian food. My stepfather who's past on was Peruvian and introduced myself and kids to his Plato's tipicos. My son loves the lomo saltado. He's searched and tried many places and when he found this place, which is only 10min away he invited us all for dinner. Service is great! They were very nice and very helpful. And the ambiance was had a nice feel of Peruvian culture. They start you off with bread for the table and a homemade concoction of spicy pesto sauce. It's amazing. My best friend and I are on the hunt for a local Peruvian food place and decided to give Fernando's a try. We had the ceviche mixto, Chupe de camarones, and Chaufa mixta. The portion sizes were fair. The ceviche was smaller than expected. The Chupe de camarones was a healthy serving that could possibly be shared with two or more people. The Chaufa mixta is good for two. At first we were served by a male waiter who seemed to be disconnected. He wasn't mean but also seemed in a hurry, granted, the place was almost completely rainy since it was a Monday afternoon. Later we were served by a woman and she was happy to help us out. The taste wasn't horrible but wasn't memorable either. I did feel that the Chaufa Mixta was a 10/10 in flavor. It was the only dish that truly stood out to me. The Chupe de camarones was also delicious but was missing a bit more shrimp. Overall, Fernando's is a nice place to try! read more

Yay or nay? 0/2 Ordered three items and wouldn't reorder any. Lomo Saltado dish was terrible. Steak was very tough and chewy. Not tender at all. Papa a la Huancaina was decent flavor wise but it was a tiny portion and didn't come with the cheese or boiled egg mentioned in the description. The slices were also very large instead of cut thin which I didn't enjoy. I think it was a single small potato. Jalea was also another dish that was not very good. The fish was okay texture wise, but pretty bland. The octopus, calamari and shrimp were all off in texture (and flavor). Yucca tasted old. It was also missing corn based on the description. Screwing up one dish can be a fluke but all three were disappointing and 2/3 of them were missing things. This place clearly doesn't care much about their customers, at least not consistently. Expense 0/1 The total I paid for the three dishes was $50, which was definitely not worth it. For transparency I think the total for just the food was ~45 but left a small tip, even though I picked up my food and left. Still not worth it for the bad quality and little attention to detail. First time here for dinner. We loved our dinner. Between us all, I'd say the food was absolutely tasty. Very very flavorful. We had the pollo saltado, lomo saltado, the pollo one with noodles, and the rice with mix of seafood. Everything was great! The Yuka was delicious with its sauce... we also had a potato stuffed with meat and egg and olives. Tasty. Our server was Laura. She was very pleasant and her smile is infectious. walked in to place an order for pick up and the lady who took my order was so shady and rude. Then I'm 100% sure she was bitter that i didn't tip her bc as i was waiting for my food she was sweeping the trash towards my friend and i. When she went to pick it up it got all over my legs. I've lived in Downey all my life and I've been going here since i was younger and i don't remember a person that rude always working there. The food was okay. Well I think I found my new favorite Peruvian restaurant!! The picante de mariscos was amazing. The calamari was excellent. The green sauce is addictive. Hubby was fine with the tallarin con steak.
