Service is attentive, the food has its charm with in-house made tortillas. It really was a hard review to write because all the elements of a great restaurant is embodied in this hidden gem. I chalk it up to ordering the wrong items. The flavors did not pop for me. Hubby opted for the chorizo and he said it was decent and he described it as "diet chorizo"--that he'd probably needed to go back to Sinaloa to capture the true essence of "real" chorizo, the way it's meant to be. The star of his meal was the in-house made flour tortillas-now that's authentic! This is/was the reason that it leaned towards a 4 star. These looked and tasted phenomenal. The aroma took me back to the times when we visited Rosarito's Puerto Nuevo, as the lady made the tortillas by hand & pressed them in the comal, ahh, good times. I ordered the vegetarian omelette with beans & potatoes. The omelette was decent with fresh bell peppers & onions but the seasoning was so mild that I requested for salt & pepper. The potatoes appeared well seasoned in color but lacked that oomph that salt & pepper couldn't fix. My apple pancakes were average. While I appreciated the strawberry compote, there was no apple or apple taste in them. To wash everything down, I had cafe de olla, that was good. The aroma of the brown sugar & cinnamon was ever present. Estrella, our server was very welcoming, attentive and friendly, she gets 5 stars for her service with a smile & hospitality. Their lunch & dinner menu looked very appealing but we wanted breakfast items. We wish we were both molé enthusiasts then perhaps we would've better appreciated & enjoyed those offerings. Being from Bell Gardens, I'm so glad to have tried Rocio's out. The food was amazing! A variety of moles to try, so there's something for nearly ever pallet. The staff are quick and attentive. I ended up trying the emoladas with the pippion mole, the chicken was flavorful and the mole mixed so well with everything. I also tried their horchata and it such a well made one too. Walked out and I had to write this as the experience was so fresh in my heart and mind! The service was perfect, the girl handled everything from wait service to busboy to cashier - she even recommended a great pairing of mole with my pork chops. Rocio's Mexican Mitchen is at a quiet corner of Garfield and Ira in Bell Gardens. It's a cozy spot with half a dozen tables plus a small patio area. The menu is aptly labeled La Diosa de los Moles. The goddess of moles has ten different moles with ingredients such as pistachio, mint, pumpkin seeds, corn fungus, and peanuts, with various types of chili peppers. Some of them have evocative names such as Manchamanteles - tablecloth stain. The staff is really friendly and they bring a basket of tortilla chips covered in a few of the moles. The Mole Oaxaqueno is a black mole with a mix of a couple dozen ingredients, which produces an astoundingly complex depth of flavor. You can taste the sweetness from the fruits first, then the spices and nuts shine through, followed at the end by a mild tingle of heat from the chili peppers. The chocolate adds silkiness and even more flavor to the mole. The plate has a foundation of rice and lightly grilled, firm, carrot and zucchini matchsticks. Stacked on top is a thin bone-in pork chop, which is tender, juicy, and delicious on its own. I love food with lots of sauce, so this dish makes me happy. The flavor and thickness of the mole remind me of curry with its deep list of spices and ingredients. I'm ready to come back again so I can try more of the moles! We've seen this little hole in the wall restaurant a few times when we go to the Bell Gardens sports complex. Decided to stop by today, my husband loves mole. The name on of the restaurant actually says La diosa de los moles. There's also a spice store in the same parking lot. Staff is super friendly Anyways, the food was amazing. Small restaurant with huge impact. The dishes are so flavorful. Different types of mole, there's something for everyone. There are vegetarian dishes as well as pescatarian dishes. My favorite has been the salmon with squash blossom sauce. This dish is AMAZING. The exterior is colorful and a delightful little potpourri of color and art pieces that are mixed with Mexican flavor. There's a giant Catrina at the doorway to greet you. If you drive by, she's large enough to see from either side of Garfield. There is some outdoor seating and indoor seating. During hotter days the inside can be sweltering hot due to the small space. Service is great, the servers are super friendly and helpful with the menu or any questions. This neighborhood gem is known for their moles. That's how the menu works too. A good portion of the menu is where you choose they type of mole and then choose the protein to eat it with. There are some other items on the menu, but I think the moles have the spotlight. The restaurant itself is not large. It is cozy and comforting though. There is some seating on the inside and the outside. Also, as soon as I walked through the door, I was greeted by a really friendly person and seated right away. It was in the middle of the week and it super busy. Being my first time, I got the popular pick: the mole Oaxaqueno - the black mole and chose to put it on chile relleno. This also comes with some of their fresh fluffy tortillas. I also got a cucumber drink to wash it down (refreshing and delicious). I'm already a big fan of mole, but I have to say this might be some of the best mole I've ever had, if not the best. The flavors, the spices... all cohesive and well blended and prepared. The presentation of the dish itself was beautiful. I really enjoyed my meal here. I definitely would love to come back and try their different moles and protein combinations. We went to Rocio's for a late lunch on a weekday. The restaurant has a small parking lot where parking was readily available. Interior is small with nice decor, very bright and cheerful with a nice ambience. There were only two parties dining in when we arrived, and we were seated immediately. We started off with complimentary tortilla chips, which were drizzled with several different mole sauces that we were able to sample. I ordered the Chicken Enmoladas (Enchiladas) with the Mole Oaxaqueno. It came with a side dish of rice and beans. JJ ordered the same thing but with Mole Poblano. Everything was absolutely delicious! I would highly recommend both of these moles, both rich, flavorful and reminiscent of the best moles that I've had in Mexico and Oaxaca. We thoroughly enjoyed our plates, and most definitely will return. They also serve breakfast, which we'd love to try next time. Service was excellent--- very friendly and quick service. I came across an article on the news paper praising this place for their Mole. I've driven by it so many times but never felt the urge to stop and eat, what a mistake that was. - The Food I ordered their award winning Guajaqueño Mole with chicken for protein. This was great! It was beautifully presented and the mole was well balanced with spices and heat, Delicious! - The service This was okay, I was seated and served pretty quickly but I was handed utensils and a menu without a peep, no greeting, or, "I'll be right with you". I had to ask after being served chips and a drink if they could please clean my table of spills from the previous customer. Not a deal breaker, but a good portion of what makes me return to restaurants is definitely based how I'm treated. The service is why I did not give it more stars, a simple smile can go a long way. -Ambiance It's definitely small, maybe four or five tables. This just makes it cozy, and when weather allows it, I believe seating outside is an option. I am sure that the mole is still good but I couldn't order it. All of them were too spicy. The year before the chile they used wasn't that spicy at all. But if you don't mind leaving the car at Ford Park parking lot and walking 200 yards, to the restaurant, You will be rewarded with flavor beyond your wildest imagination. The best mole I ever had. If you go with a group, take a portion of your plate and share the rest, if your whole table does the same and orders different mole dishes. You will get all the different moles, and their wonderful flavors, it is the Best experience that way. They only have six tables inside and based on the food and service, there shouldn't be an empty seat in this little gem. Ordered the Encheladas Verdes.
