I've been coming to Narai Thai for over 20 years, and it's still one of my favorite Thai restaurants. The food has always been consistently delicious, with fresh ingredients and authentic flavors that keep me coming back. The service is friendly, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, and it feels like home every time I visit. It's one of those rare places that has stood the test of time. If you've never been, you're missing out.

This is my go to if I want Thai that I know will always taste great. My family and I have tried many dishes and liked ALL of them. My favorites are the Spicy Seafood soup, I also get a veggie tom yum, Jungle Curry (dont get this one if you don't like spicy), yellow curry, Steamed fish, green beans, and the Pra Ram with tofu. There other this we like but theses are our go to. The restaurant is always clean, never been sat a sticky table or had dirty silverware. The staff is attentive and friendly.

After attempting to go to a different Thai restaurant where I was ignored, I came to Narai. I was in search of this location (unbeknownst to me I had already reviewed it lol) because I remember the food being great! Well, this is an update. Customer service here is still excellent. The staff is friendly and attentive. I had the Yellow Chicken Curry with white rice and the Firecrackers. The curry was delicious! A 10/10! The Firecrackers were a 10/10 as well. They were crispy and the food came out hot, which is a huge plus for me. I went alone this time and what I loved about my visit is that the restaurant feels cozy and warm. I felt great eating here alone. I definitely STILL recommend!

My husband and I were struggling to find a dinner option last night and we landed on trying this place for the first time. I'm pleasantly surprised and we'll definitely be coming back! We did pickup, but the restaurant is very clean and cute. The staff was super friendly on the phone and at the counter. We both ordered the Pad Thai with chicken and shrimp. I couldn't help myself and finished the whole plate, which could have easily been two servings. Definitely a new favorite and a great quick dinner or lunch option.

This might be one of the best Thai Yellow Curry spots I've ever had. Their Yellow Curry is absolutely tasty--creamy of coconut milk, rich in flavor, and perfectly balanced. We also tried the Narai Fried Rice with a mix of meats--great value and well-seasoned. Bonus points for the peas in the rice, which the kids loved (and parents appreciate for sneaking in veggies!). I usually like to put a bit of soy sauce, and they included it on the side for my take-out order without me even asking. That's thoughtful. The owner, June, is incredibly warm and knowledgeable. You can feel her passion for sharing authentic Thai flavors with the community. This place is flavorful, welcoming, and absolutely worth recommending.

I dropped off my car for service in downey and while I was waiting, I found this spot right across the street. It was just past 3pm and this place was almost packed so I figured it had to be good. I ordered the Thai bbq chicken and asked if it came with any sides and they said, no, so I ordered a side of white rice. Most Thai restaurants will serve rice, or fried rice and salad with the plate. Anyways, the chicken came out and it looked super fresh but that was about it. The pieces were nice and big but it was super dry and lacked flavor. I had to ask for extra sauce to make up for the taste it lacked. Perhaps I ordered the wrong dish here. Hope to try another dish here the next time I get my car serviced.

Terrible service. The waiter tried to charge a $21 "gratuity fee" on my party of 5 and only removed it when I asked him what it was for and said some excuse about us being a party of 4+ I was not informed of additional charges due to party size when entering the restaurant. Once they removed the charge, I was given dirty looks and they started talking about us. I then decided to give them no tip because of them trying to force it upon me. As I was leaving the server rudely told me, "So you dont tip eh??" Terrible experience. Will not return.

Really great food and service! Easy to read menus with descriptions. Had the Pad See Ew and Thai Iced Tea. Great flavor! Food available for takeout as well. Good seating/space. Can't wait to come again.

We chose this place while looking for Gluten free options. This was our first time trying thai food at this location. Since it was a rainy day I called ahead to check the wait time and see if I could reserve a table for 6. Phone was answered quickly and I was told there was no wait and they will make table arrangements for our party before our arrival. Upon arrival we were seated in a room that seemed to accommodate large parties. Our server was very nice, but unfortunately I forgot her name. We asked few questions about gluten free options and also the flavor of curries they offered. Based on the recommendations, we ordered two items from starter - chicken satay skewers and Maria sampler. Chicken on both platters was very flavorful and tasted even better when dipped in the peanut sauce From noodles section we ordered : Pad Thai (gluten free option)- noodles were yummy and chicken / shrimp were moist. Silver noodles- noodles were little dry and we didn't enjoy it as much we enjoyed the pad thai. From curries we ordered: Chicken yellow curry and Thai green curry ( with shrimp) both were gluten free options. I had higher expectations for the yellow curry compared to green curry, but surprisingly we all loved green curry more than the yellow. Green curry had a little kick and the basil added a really nice flavor. I think getting it with shrimp was also a good choice. Yellow curry with chicken was little on the sweet side but the potatoes and carrot were cooked to perfection. It just melted in the mouth. From the grill we ordered Thai BBQ pork. This was my son's entree and he loved it. Pork with garlic flavor was a hit. From the Main dishes we ordered sweet n sour chicken. It took some time before this item was brought ( normal time for preparation of this dish. Even menu states to give 15 mins). It included fried chicken, pineapple, carrots, bell peppers, onions in sweet tangy sauce. The sauce mixed well with all the ingredients and made the dish taste even better.

Is this the same Restaurant that used to be in San Francisco on Clement Street? I miss that Narai so bad. Was the best Thai restaurant in the neighborhood for many many years.

We do use chicken broth and fish sauce in our soup. For vegan option, you can let us know and we can use water and soy sauce instead.

Is the pad Thai sweet ? I hate sweet . I love pure Thai taste.

    Yes it's good

Do they have gluten free options?

Hi! Yes, we do have gluten free options. If you're gluten intolerant, then avoid all stir fry dishes since soy sauce and oyster sauce may contain wheat. Fish sauce, as far as I know, does not contain any wheat products (I checked the label and it…

    Do they take reservations?

No, the place is kind of small, no reservations.

So today I decided to bring a friend out to try authentic Thai food and Can Coon did not disappoint us at all. I ordered Nam Kao Tod : Crispy rice with ground pork ,ginger, peanut I ordered not spicy B/C my friend can't handle the heat. Thai flavors are like how I experienced in Thailand so flavorful they made it just right. My favorite dish. Nuah Num Tok: It's beef salad with roasted rice lime juice red onions I asked to cooked the steak medium rare and it came out perfect Chinese Broccoli with Crispy Pork: this dish is my all time favorite. Crispy Pork was nice and crispy not chewy not hard at all Can Coon knows how to make this dish so well. Chinese Broccoli was not over cooked it was fresh and crunchy. Last dish was a Thai Menudo soup Or #45 Tom Kreong Nai The beef was so tender melt in my mouth, tribes was crunchy not over cooked we loved it with a hint of limes I added more of chilies powder B/C Thai food is all about the heat and spicy. The Thai Lady that took care of us is super sweet and friendly She's very attentive always keeps my glass full. She makes sure we got everything we need and with smile too. The restaurant is very clean no trash on the floor no stain or food left on the table. The Ambiance was nice and quiet not too loud we can have a normal conversation without yelling at each other. We were immediately sat when we arrived around 6pm but most tables were filled. Service was good and the food arrived pretty fast! We ordered the tom yum gai, crab fried rice, pad thai, and calamari. The tom yum gai is perfect for someone with a scratchy throat from allergies because it cleared them up! It had a good amount of sourness to it. Calamari was perfectly crispy and not too chewy. Crab fried rice was abundant so we needed 2 to go boxes. Pad Thai was delicious. Definitely a place where you should share your dishes with friends and family or be prepared to take to go boxes because of the amount that's on the plate. I'd definitely come back!

Thai Original BBQ, Cerritos -- I am awash with nostalgia whenever I visit the Artesia/Cerritos area…read more-- home to a vibrant Filipino community, and where I lived on-and-off for nearly a decade. It's here that I welcomed the familiar comfort foods from home, and I'm in one of my favorite restaurants: Thai Original BBQ. Its name says Thai, but over time its food has evolved to skew subtly toward a Filipino palate that balances sweet, sour, salty, umami flavors, with a mild level of spice. I wondered: how far has it veered off Thai Town's flavor baseline? Entering the place is like getting into a time capsule -- its décor is exactly the same as when I first ate here 41 years ago. The long saltwater aquarium is still there, as are the same red vinyl cushioned booths. But the carpeting is noticeably threadbare, and the starched white table linens are long gone, revealing washed-out Formica. Thai Original BBQ is known for its single-plate meals featuring proteins and vegetables over sweetish rice stir-fried in Nam Prik Pao, resulting in its orange color. Tonight's dinner was our time-tested reliables: the Combination Soup, Satay Dinner, and Chicken Ruby Dinner. The combination soup was served in a fire pot. Its comforting stock is translucent, with no visible scum - packed with umami from the fish sauce and heaped with pieces of chicken, pork, shrimp, and vegetables. So comforting, even on a warm night! The satay dinner consists of eight skewers of thinly sliced flank steak, grilled to perfection, with a sweet-spicy and creamy peanut dipping sauce. And the Chicken Ruby dinner was impressive -- a whole Cornish hen, stuffed with a sausage made from a mixture of pork, rice, and glass noodles, then deep-fried whole. This delectable dish will make the "Colonel" tap out. These dishes are how I remember them -- and they bring back so many fond memories of family get-togethers. Eating here turns every meal into a mindful event. My wife and I hardly spoke to each other while eating - it wasn't being rude at all. The silence came from a quiet joy -- from something familiar, from something comforting. Thai Original BBQ did not veer as far from what we've always welcomed as Thai as I had wondered. In many ways, Thai food is similar to Filipino food: a balance of sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and spicy elements. Fish sauce is foundational to both cuisines, providing saltiness and umami, while coconut juice, palm sugar, and tamarind bring sweetness and sourness. Thai Original BBQ is really a taste of home. Five stars -- no asterisk, no hesitation.
