Came here to have lunch with my daughter today I've eaten here about three times and the food was fine but today was something out of the twilight zone I wanted shrimp with vegetables but was told I would have to pay $8 more if I wanted to add shrimp to the vegetable dish or $5 more to the shrimp dish if I wanted to add vegetables!!? When it was brought to my table, I was in shock!! It looked like somebody had vomited on this The shrimp had such a strong, pungent shrimp taste that I knew it was not fresh besides the gross soupy mess that it was drenched in. I asked the woman that served us that I did not like the dish at all, and if she could bring me something else. She immediately told me "no"without even allowing me to explain why I did not like the dish. It is so tender and the flavor is perfect, you can taste the garlic in it but it is not too potent. Make sure you go during lunch hours because later on in the day the same dishes will cost you more money. I phone in my order and it's always super hot and ready for me to dig in. A couple of my favorite are: Orange Chicken- I love the sauce and the fried of the chicken. Super yummy. Sweet and Sour Chicken- just like the chicken in the orange chicken but using the sweet and sour sauce instead. I have always been a fan of sweet and sour pork and I think I love this dish even more. The fried chicken and the sauce go so well together. Lately, I have been ordering this dish every time I come here. String bean and ground pork- yummy and not too salty. I will start by saying the food here is good, however the ratio of meat to vegetables is no longer balanced or fair. There is a girl that works there that does not have the proper social skills or etiquette to be attending the public. To put it mildly ,she is not very welcoming nor does she provide adequate service. You have to wait more than 10 minutes to have your order taken even when it is not busy or even when it's empty. She does not come by to check if you need anything, you will have to get her attention yourself. On more than a few occasions she has added the tax to our food bill twice and when questioned she will say it was an error and then adjust it to the accurate price. I think she counts on guests not reviewing their receipt and keeping the extra money for herself. Check your receipt before paying and check the price on the menu as well too to make sure it coincides to the amount on your bill. Today the tax was added to the food which made it appear higher than listed on the menu, it was not itemized separately which I believe is a deliberate act to circumvent paying the sales tax. Now they are charging about two dollars for the tea which used to be complimentary which is one thing but they need to reflect that on the menu instead of expecting their customers to be mind readers and know there is a stipulation in place now for it. The menu states it is included in the lunch special yet today I had to ask for it and the waitress said if I drink it then it is free and if not they charge for it because some of the customers waste it. Wouldn't it make more sense to ask beforehand if you want the tea or not? Who would agree to pay money for tea only to waste it? When I asked why I didn't get it she got defensive and stated "That is why I asked you what you wanted to drink." Why would I ask for tea when the menu stated it was included in my lunch special? Obviously when she asked my daughter and I what we wanted to drink we thought it was for the water and soda, we're not psychic. I will not be returning here anytime soon, there is dishonest practices taking place and with the poor customer service and meager meat portions recently I can no longer justify continuing to give business to this establishment when I can get better prices, portions, and service elsewhere. read more

We came here to get a quick bite as we were in a rush. Since we entered the establishment the owner/waitress noticed that me and my partner are obviously a couple. The ambience changed completely. We sat down and we're served tea which pretty much should've have been thrown at us. She slammed the tea and tea cups and don't even had the courtesy of wiping down the sticky table. I will not kid you every single dish that was put out it was literally put in a bad manner at the table. We were served the plates and right after the bill and if she was kicking us out. Updated Review 11.28.22: Seems this is the second time they've changed owners and this time it has really changed for the worst. I hate leaving negative reviews but this time the service and the food was so terrible that I can no longer recommend this place to anyone. -The pan fried noodles had absolutely no taste, I had to season it at the table with soy sauce for it to be edible. I never return dishes at restaurants for fear of what they might do to our food, so my family and I just ate it, with no complaints. -They didn't give us all our utensils, my son got the missing items and set our table (still no complaints from us). -Strong cigarette smoke smell coming from the back of the restaurant (maybe it was the burning of incense?? Not sure but it was hard to breathe, we still stayed since we had already ordered) -The server (owner, maybe) reminded us before we left that tips were to be left at the table. After my husband left a tip she confronted him in front of other customers, "why so low?" Doesn't he know she works for this? Again, he quietly told her the food was not good and walked away. Wanted some hot braised shrimp. The lady who took my order over the phone really didn't speak very good English and I think she was confused and told me hot spicy shrimp. Maybe it was good at one time? Maybe they switched cooks? Today was not good. Ordered 4 dishes. Mongolian Beef came with crunchy chow mein noodles instead of bamboo. I have never seen this in my life. The beef itself was good however, I didn't like the addition of the crunchy noodles as opposed to bamboo. Braised shrimp came from a bag , defrosted and gummy in texture, swimming in a sugary red liquid. Ate one and spit it out immediately. Kung Pao Chicken was made with rubbery old chicken in large pieces, no celery or water chestnuts? Not spicy, no flavor. Sauce for orange chicken tasted nothing of orange and was just honey sweet, very liquidy and did not coat the pieces. They did use chicken breast though. That was a plus. I think we came on an off day. The chef must have been a trainee. They should also tell him not to smoke at the front door. The entire restaurant smelled of cigarettes. We packed up everything within 30 minutes of being served our food, and left. Safe to say, we won't be back. Love supporting small business and don't mind paying for good food. So I thought I'd give Hong Kong chef a try hoping I wouldn't be disappointed and I surely was not. I ordered my usual chicken fried rice, Mongolian beef, teriyaki chicken, Kung Poa chicken, wonton soup and a few other (cannot remember what) which all was well made and tasty. I now have a Chinese takeout spot! The person that helped me was kind and helpful; I would recommend takeout from here, I have never eaten there. Seemed fairly clean from what I saw. Total hidden gem in Downey! No kidding, I would drive 20 miles to this place just to eat here. The food was delicious and fresh tasting. Takeout prices/portions but the food is cooked to order. Big difference. It's going to be hard from now on to order food sitting under those heat lamps.You can't really compare this plac other establishments of this kind. Kaowok, Panda who? They don't come even close. The food was not too salty or oily, the chicken pieces were succulent and the Lo Mein (the way noodles are called back east) had a hint of wok hai and a good amount of green onions and bean sprouts which made the dish wholesome. They have soy sauce and pepper white pepper as table condiments, and the lady at the register was very kind and gave me sriracha on the side. I hope they don't change.
