It ended up costing around $29 before tip (extra beef cost the most). I would add an egg next time for mix in and no extra butter (a little too greasy) or fried garlic. Ordering from the tablet was super easy and convenient for dine-in. Serving size was pretty big. I would have leftovers if I didn't commit to finishing it beforehand! The aroma from the meat cooking and finally mixing everything together really works up an appetite. The crispy rice at the bottom came off easily. The tableside sauces helped. If it's your first time at a Sizzling Lunch, they will give you the lowdown/hack on the most popular dishes, how to place your order, and how to cook/prepare your dish. The portions are very generous with good quality ingredients and complementary condiments on your table. In short, every item we ordered was delicious. The bases for the entrees are rice, spaghetti noodles, and udon noodles. It would be nice to have a dish that had cauliflower rice or veggies as a base, however. Seems like a new Sizzling Lunch location. Quiet and felt relatively clean, but the food is so mediocre. I ordered Garlic Beef Pepper rice, and when it first came out, the sizzling sound made it seem so appetizing. But the food itself has literally no seasoning (especially the rice), so even after pouring so much of the provided sauces, it tasted so bland. The portion of beef isn't that much either, especially considering how thin the beef slices are. Price before taxes and tip was $16. I don't see myself returning anytime soon. read more

Came in on a Sunday afternoon and the place was a lot busier than I had expected it to be. Luckily we got there just in time because there was one open table left. So we were promptly seated and our server/host quickly showed us how to order. Every table is set up with their own tablet/ordering system so you don't need to wait for one to come around. Once you've gotten your order in place you send the ticket in and the kitchen staff rolls out with everything. Not pictures is the sugar cane drink, which was really yummy. My only gripe is that it was a little on the pricey side for such a small amount. We also got the sweet potato fries that came out nice and fresh as well as the chicken wings. The wings came on a hot plate and we opted for the cheesy flavor (addtl $1). I chose the original garlic beef plate but decided to add mushrooms and a side of curry sauce. My son was in the mood for steak fir our lunch date and we decided to try this place- it was absolutely delicious and at a great price. My son ordered the beef pepper rice and I the pork belly. It comes to your table on a sizzling platter raw with some rice and veggies in the middle. From there you turn it over until cooked and then start mixing in the butter, veg and rice. At your table are a garlic soy, teriyaki and spicy miso sauce putting you in the drivers seat as chef of your very own lunch adventure. We wanted water since it was so hot that day, but that proved to be a challenge. We sent the order in for it but not never came so we had to flag someone down. Other than that the self ordering kiosk is pretty cool as long as you know what you want. I usually get the beef and it's really good. I've tried the pork belly and it was fatty and not crispy so wasn't a fan. I got to try the unagi one this time. It was pretty good. I should've tried some of the unagi before we mixed it. The menu is basically pick a protein like beef, chicken, pork, salmon etc and rice, veggies, or udon noodles. Almost all items come with some version of corn, garlic butter, and green onions. I ordered the spicy beef pepper rice and it was perfectly on the spicy side. It comes out very fast. The server was so nice and checked in frequntly and refilled water without asking. It's a fun experience. The longer you leave the rice on the cast iron skillet the crunchier the bottom of it gets. I like to mix it quickly like a fried rice and add the garlic shoyu. When you have garlic butter, steak, and udon, it's nothing but a good time. So yeah, if you don't know what you like, then definitely go for the garlic pepper beef with rice (or substitute it with udon). It's a nice mix of spicy and savory and hearty all in one hot sizzling plate. Mix everything as soon as your order arrives so the beef can cook through. There is not much interaction between you and the workers. At the end, you have to go pay in the front. Food is good. I got the beef plate, and my friend got the shrimp udon. This is such a fun idea. It's a lot like Bibimbap, or Korean mixed rice served on a hot plate. But in this case, sizzling lunch is served up peppery beef slices with sweet soy glaze that you make into fried rice on the plate. The food was generous and extremely hot, so compounded with spicy chili paste the pepper beef was more medium level of spicy than mild. The sweet soy was so super delicious with the mushrooms and coated the rice so well. I really like this as a concept. The dishes are pretty simply so I would recommend add-ons like eggs or vegetables to round out your meal. Our food stayed warm for the majority of the meal and the beef was perfectly medium rare. Been going to the Cupertino location since they opened a few years back and glad I finally got to show the co-workers what this spot is all about. I used to always get the beef pepper rice bowl , but have been venturing out lately with the Udon and curry plates and they definitely do not disappoint. I am not one to normally add salt to food, but a super small pinch of salt mixed in the curry bowl would have been good, but it is also fine the way it is. I also highly recommend the gyoza and I believe they have a seasoned or spiced edamame appetizer, but I think it might have gotten taken off the menu. So freaking good. The egg got mixed in with my dish and disappeared, so I don't know if the egg is totally necessary. The garlic butter, however, is absolutely necessary! Omg I have been waiting for this Sizzling Lunch to open for like 2 years so happy that it's finally open! I live like 5 minutes away, so the location is perfect for me. It's located across from St. Francis High in the CVS/Safeway strip plaza, so there's plenty of parking spaces. I came here for their Grand Opening and we waited under 5 minutes for a table. The restaurant itself is smaller compared to the Cupertino location, so may be harder to get a table during peak hours. We ordered on the tablet provided at our table, but our waiter provided waters very promptly. I ordered the Beef Pepper Rice, and my friend got the Garlic Beef Pepper Rice. The only difference between the two is that the Garlic Beef came with fried bits of garlic, but both dishes came with a slab of garlic butter. We also ordered the egg add-on and the takoyaki. Our orders came out pretty quickly after ordering via the tablet, and we got to digging! One note - they don't provide chopsticks, which would be helpful to use to cook the raw meat. I usually like to flip the meat around with the back end of the chopstick, and use the right side to eat after it's fully cooked. I love Sizzling Lunch for their sauces, I believe they had garlic shoyu and a teriyaki(?) sauce. The dishes in my opinion are a little bland without pouring a bunch of sauce on top of it. The quality of our dishes were consistent with other Sizzling Lunch locations. The takoyaki was great too, very soft and chewy. I do wish the outer shell was a bit flakier/crispier, but tasty. I wouldn't normally order this since the plates are filling. Overall, delicious as always and will definitely frequent this location now that it's open! read more

We ordered the pepper beef - one order udon and one order rice. Came out quickly and we stirred it around cook the beef. I wish I got the rice because it soaks up their amazing garlic soy sauce much better than the udon. Omg I want to steal a bottle home. Hahaha. We came on an odd day where they are cash only. Happy to see Sizzling Lunch finally opening in Mountain View!! I've been a longtime fan of Sizzling Lunch for quite some time now, so I'm glad it's now in a location more convenient to me :-) I came in about 30 minutes after they opened on Saturday morning. The store was empty and quiet, and it seemed that we were the first party since they started playing music once we came in. I noticed this Sizzling Lunch was a lot more high-tech than the other ones I've visited: each table had an iPad where you self-order your own dish. The iPad also plays a tutorial on how to order your food and how to eat it which is nice, especially for newcomers! I ordered my usual Curry Beef Rice w/ Cheese here while my sister opted for a Beef Pepper Rice (subbing rice w/ vegetables - bean sprouts, edamame, etc). The flavors here are pretty consistent with the other locations. Each table has sauces like garlic shoyu + chili powder, so you're able to make it to your heart's desire. They have a wide variety of sides at Sizzling Lunch too, so it's a great place to go to if you don't know what to eat. That being said, make sure to wear a dark shirt or something you don't mind getting spattered as that will happen. Also as an FYI, the food does not come pre-seasoned so make sure to use the sauces provided at the table! Finally, make sure you get those cheesy fries and eat them up quick as they will get soggy. I personally like the beef curry udon dish as it handles the high heat well, but lots of things become tasty once you stir fry them with butter! The staff was also incredibly friendly and allowed us to bring a cake in to celebrate at no extra charge! I went on a Sunday afternoon with my husband and we were promptly seated. I ordered the Kimchi Pepper Lunch and added an egg and doused my plate with their Teriyaki sauce & Garlic Shoyu Sauce. My husband got the Pork Belly Pepper Rice which was also good but personally I prefer the beef. Pro tip: Mix and cook the egg on the side first so that the rice doesn't get mushy. After mixing everything, what you're then left with is basically a really comforting and filling fried rice that hits the spot on a cold day. The only downside is that the restaurant is a bit small and the ventilation isn't great so you are guaranteed to leave with your hair and clothes smelling like grilled meat lol. The tantalizing smell of the rich beef, garlicy butter and sweet teriyaki sauce is truly a treat for the senses. The fries are particularly great in this format as even topped with plenty of wet sauces and cheese, the fries stayed crispy thanks to the sizzling platter. A tiny gripe would be that the egg burns way too quickly on such a hot plate and most of it gets stuck. Service - 4/5. Most of the interaction is done via tablet but the responses to the requests are fast and service is friendly. I did expect the appetizer fries to come out before the main entrée but that wasn't a big issue. Value - 5/5. Food is delicious and the portion are big leaving you with a completely full belly. I love coming to sizzling lunch for their garlic shoyu and teriyaki sauces! Among all the teppanyaki offerings in the Bay Area, maybe Pepper Lunch beats Sizzling Lunch but there are just so many more Sizzling Lunch locations making it much more convenient. I always order the beef pepper rice and it hits the spot every time. It is so important to flip the meat while mixing as soon as the plate gets to the table so you don't end up with partially raw meat once the plate cools. Also, do your best to get to the bottom of the rice and give it a toss otherwise you'll end up with burnt rice stuck to the bottom of the plate once you eat up all the rice on the top. Place your order and call the waitstaff using the tablet at your table, then approach the counter to pay. I'd definitely recommend the beef pepper rice, and squirting the shoyu and teriyaki in sections if you're looking to keep sodium intake down (versus all over the whole plate at once). read more
