What a neighborhood gem! We've been to Ramen Seas a few times over the years, and they may now be under new management or ownership, as their menu has changed. They now focus on a few basic ramen selections, some Japanese curry rice dishes, and small rice bowl choices, all at reasonable prices. The Tonkotsu Ramen and Miso Ramen dishes were great, plenty enough to fill us up, served with half a soft boiled egg, simmered pork, and a variety of sides. The Pork Katsu Curry was lovely, served with a perfectly crispy pork katsu, smooth and delicate curry, with the requisite ume pickles. This place is perfect for a rainy day! It was quite packed when I went but we got seated very quickly. The interior design is nice and dark with bright lighting so it was very good for catching up and reminiscing. Ended up ordering the Seafood Ramen and it was magnificent. I think the broth was extremely flavorful and the thing I liked the most about this restaurant. I ended drinking all of it! It's nice that they offer either half or dul size appetizer. The Tonkotsu broth seemed lighter than last time but still enjoyed it. I just addded the roasted garlic oil to taste throughout the meal vs mixing it all at once. First, the limited vegetarian options--only two ramen choices and three vegetarian curries. The menu was simple--assorted appetizers, good ramen choices but also curry dishes and limited selection of mini donburi bowls. It's ramen/curry centered, so no sushi or teriyaki type meals. We ordered the takoyaki, tonkotosu ramen and a curry dish. However what particularly caught my eye and was very curious about their black curry--not a usual menu item. The black is not squid ink, but is made with activated charcoal (not sure what that meant)--so I took a chance. I paired it with creamy crab croquette (additional cost), it was surprisingly tasty. Be forewarned there is a little gritty aftertaste, but overall it was very nice and it went well with the crab croquettes. The takoyaki was surprisingly delicious. The texture was a little creamy and tasted nice--I would order it again. The tonokotsu was ordered for it to be spicy and it checked the box--it was also very flavorful. The egg in both bowls was hard-boiled, which was disappointing since most places serve a nice soft-boiled egg with ramen. The Ebi ramen had an interesting flavor, but it was a bit too oily for my taste. As for the tonkatsu, it was just okay. We've definitely had better elsewhere. Both ramens were on the salty side, which made the overall experience less enjoyable. What really surprised me was that they charge $1 for hot sauce. I was a bit hungry so I ordered a agedashi tofu as an app. The food took a bit to come out but when it did, it was piping hot and looked delicious. The broth was super flavorful and was happy to see the spiciness level was not unbearable. The shirataki noodles was surprisingly not too far off from a texture standpoint from traditional noodles and it was very satisfying. Everything else was on par including the pork pieces and eggs. Overall a very solid Ramen bowl! The agedashi tofu was pretty standard and was a great addition to the meal. Tonkotsu Ramen: Pork bone broth, nori, kakuni pork, egg, spinach, kikurage mushroom, green onions (3.5/5). The broth was rich and fatty. You could see the fat in the broth. Personally, I wished they had strained that out. But otherwise, you could tell that it was cooked for hours. The noodles had a nice bounce and chewiness to them. They give you 1 1/2 eggs, but the yolk wasn't runny and creamy. But marinated like tea eggs, possibly. The pork was tender. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and patient as I examined the menu and made my selection for takeout (to eat at the outdoor event tables on Historic Murphy Avenue). The wait for my order was about 10 minutes, and utensils and napkins were packed neatly in the bag which I appreciated. Was very pleasantly surprised by how good this place was! My kids like to take Caltrain so we've been trying different restaurants in Sunnyvale and this was next on the list. We got there around opening time on a Saturday and we were seated right away and were able to place our orders quickly.
