TLDR: Excellent service. Food was good as well! There is friendly staff... and then there's Bay Sushi staff! This has never happened to me before, and they truly TRULY went above and beyond. I was here by myself, and only my phone to keep me company. I was watching my Youtube, with the phone propped against my water glass. The lady comes by with a small black iron stand. At first, I thought this was some accessory for the sushi I ordered, but no... it was for my phone! I was and AM so touched by that! No one ever thoughtfully looked over and kind enough to lend me their phone stand. That's an instant 5 star service, right there. Luckily the food was great too! I ordered the Oyako Don. My first taste of Oyako Don was 25 years ago. That one was still the best I ever had. This one was good. The sauce was a little bit more watery than I would have liked. One interesting twist... cucumber slices. I don't really like them, but I can see how they might add freshness to the dish. So if you like them, give this a shot! I also ordered the No Name sushi. Loved it. Baked salmon! The BEST salmon. So buttery and soft. It's wrapped around a california roll. So basically almost a Lion King. It's not too big either (which might be a bad thing), but I liked it because it was JUST enough for one person. But the star was the service. I didn't expect too much from a strip mall sushi joint, but when I entered, I was greeted by a very nice woman owner. Her husband was the sushi chef and her daughter (I believe) was also helping run the restaurant. The Uni and Toro were excellent. I had to get a second round. Overall I thought the fish quality was very good. Dan ambience was fairly standard but very clean and welcoming. My partner and I had our first date here so decided to come back on our anniversary. I've been back for take out, but my partner has not been back since our first date, so it was a nice trip down memory lane. Bay Sushi shares a large parking lot with a lot of stores so parking is pretty easy to find. There's only a few tables, but we were seated right away. My partner ordered the bay dinner boat special on our first date and forced himself to eat the entire thing. This time around, we ordered it to share. It comes with miso soup, salad, rice, california roll, 5 piece nigiri, and beef or chicken teriyaki. It was definitely a good portion for two people to split. We love this little sushi place! It's nestled in the small shopping center with plenty of parking. It can be pretty crowded during the busy times. The ambiance is quaint. They do take out and sit down too. They have a generous selection of different dishes as well as specials. We love the udon noodle dishes too especially during cold weather! Service is great as well. Sometimes they give out complimentary cookies or treats for the kids which is a nice touch :) the people working there are always super kind and friendly. I give it 4.5 stars as the portions can be a bit on the smaller side so family style is the way to go. Highly recommend if you are in the area and are craving a nice sushi meal! read more

How come I never came before?! Such a hidden gem. First was the delicate decor that attended to details. The plants at the front and general wooden feel gave me the Japan vibe, strongly enforced by Japanese pop music. We sampled tempura and special sushis (instead of traditional nigiri and maki) and found them excellent. Fried oysters were crunchy outside and juicy inside. Made perfectly with good oysters. Spider roll's soft-shell crab was a bit over-shadowed. Caterpillar roll was so cutely made. After biting down, the avocado and unagi and crab were such great combination. So far this is my favorite sushi place. The service is great the ladies are so kind and friendly. The fish is 10/10 it just melts in your mouth. Place is very nice and clean. Portion wise - I expected more in the bentos, again due to comparison to other joints like Happy Sushi. I think it's a solid choice for sushi in the area, none of the rolls tasted bad. Came by for lunch the other day and it was a decent experience. Bay Sushi is a Korean-owned sushi restaurant featuring Korean staff and a Gen Z waiter wearing a mask. Service was on par with a small mom and pop shop with no silly credit card, health mandate, or mandatory service charges like in SF. Started off with the soft shell crab and it was lightly fried and served with a side of soy sauce. The shrimp tempura appetizer came with some tempura vegetables along with a dipping sauce too. These were lightly fried and tasty. The dragon roll was good, and a thinner version with shrimp tempura and unagi on the inside and avocado on the ouside. Great place to get a no frills sushi fix! I've found that good sushi in the Cupertino/Sunnyvale area is hard to come by, so this discovery was a pleasant surprise. I got takeout from them. Over the years, I've been going to this particular sushi restaurant I've always enjoyed my experience! There was a new server, a lady that waited on my family and I tonight, and she was very sweet and helpful. I'm allergic to MSG/monosodium glutamate so sadly I cannot have any sushi with their sauces on the rolls..... yet this particular restaurant is always accommodating and helpful with putting sauces on the side or letting me know what items are prepared, or potentially meats are marinated in beforehand. This particular night I wasn't too hungry, so I just ordered the Gigante roll, which was delicious and fresh with roe fried salmon! I got my classic favorite Hollenbeck roll also and that one's deep-fried as well. Lol anything fried is better! Lol. Since it's summer, my mom and I thought we would have some thing light and not too heavy to eat. Lol she ended up ordering four different rolls because she couldn't decide which ones to eat. Lol as we played catch-up, the server came and let us know that they closed at 8:30 PM. Lol we had no idea it was so bright outside. We thought it was around 7 PM! It was actually 8:35 PM! We both felt Slightly embarrassed because we didn't know they were closing and I hope we didn't keep them from shutting down sooner. I dropped by Bay Sushi around 5pm on a Wednesday. The place wasn't busy at all, but the to-go orders were popping off. All I really wanted was izakaya, so I checked on their menu to see if they have a few of my favorites. I saw that they had my favorites and decided to give the place a try. I got agedashi tofu, soft shell crab, and saba nigiri. The agedashi tofu and soft shell crab were hits. Both were nicely fried. I loved the piled on bonito flakes on the tofu. Interestingly the soft shell crab came out with a side of sweet and sour sauce, which was different than I'm used to. I typically have it with some type of tempura sauce, but the sweet and sour sauce was a nice change. The saba was alright, and I thought the texture was off. It almost tasted slightly cooked rather than raw. As for how the cooked food goes, I would likely stick to those for next time. Lastly, customer service was excellent. Went here on a Monday evening for dinner with my partner and was not disappointed! The sushi rolls have large portions of fish in them. They tasted fresh and were filling. The star was the Hamachi, the fish was super fresh and yummy. For the price, it was a great deal! The bento price is the lowest I've seen in South Bay around $14 (the portions are a little smaller as well but still filling). Dear Bay Sushi, I hope this letter finds you well. My mom and I love sushi, and we go about once a month to get the yummy fish. Since I moved into Sunnyvale, this place has been one of my go-to sushi restaurants, and the quality of your food has never disappointed. However, I enjoy restaurants that have cool decorations and have care and love ingrained into their restaurant. A considerable number of restaurants are not like that and don't give off good vibes. Bay Sushi is not one of those restaurants. However, it would benefit more if they added a couple of items such as chairs and lanterns around the restaurant to enhance the experience of the customer. While I love the effort you put into your sushi and overall restaurant, some parts of it could have more . In my last visit to your restaurant, the sushi was excellent as it always is, but I feel like the wall on the right side of your restaurant lacks decor. Only the left wall has lights and it feels inconsistent. Both walls should have lights on the side because only one wall has lights. Another option to improve the restaurant is that you should invest in a TV and put it where the clock is because a television is better than a fancy clock. If Bay Sushi could do even one of my suggestions, I promise it would benefit greatly! Even though Bay Sushi may not be the fanciest restaurant in Sunnyvale, I sure think that it could at least be one of the best because great sushi paired with great style can only mean great things!
