Loving the interior! The restaurant was noticeably very clean. I actually appreciate how for once a sushi restaurant is brightly lit instead of being super dim. The wall decor is a 3D mount Fuji and even the painting on the door is of a crane. Very beautiful and thoughtful. The food itself is just as impressive. Portions were great and the sushi was very fresh and presented/made beautifully. Our server was very attentive. Constantly refilling our drinks and checking in on us. Will definitely be back!

My family and I are regulars here, and the quality of the food and service is consistently excellent. I've eaten at many sushi restaurants in the area, and this is our favorite. We are particularly fond of the seared salmon nigiri. Everything on the menu is delicious, and the restaurant owners and chefs are welcoming, courteous, and attentive. They graciously accommodate my food allergies, and they have tamari sauce for people who need a wheat-free alternative to soy sauce. I highly recommend this restaurant!

2/28/2024 Sushiko 4546 El Camino Real Ste A4 Los Altos, CA 94022 We went there for lunch on a Wed around noon. It's in the Village Court plaza at the corner of ECR and San Antonio Rd. The store front faces San Antonio Rd. with parking around the periphery of the shops. Not too many people when we got there and it starting filling up while we dined. Probably no need for reservations. It's a booth and table layout with a smallish sushi bar. They didn't have calamari. Wifey had the stir fried seafood udon and I had the lunch special Bento Box with Saba Shioyaki and mixed Tempura. My Miso soup was thick, flavorful and had some Wakame but no diced tofu, just okay. The udon had a good selection of seafood, including mussels and shrimp. My Saba was juicy and tasty, with some edible pin bones. The mixed tempura was hot and included two sweet shrimp with assorted vegetables having a crunchy and slightly greasy breading. The salad had a mayo dressing and just okay, no sesame or soy flavors. The menu is extensive with sushi, bento and udon selections. The service was good, even with just a single server. The lunch special bento box is a good value. Similar to several other places in the area, it's repeatable.

Love this neighborhood gem! Have been coming here for many years. Friendly service. I love the salmon skin roll - only place besides Morimoto's that does it right - crisp/crunchy without that fishy taste! A favorite during lunch for many in the area. Also love their bento offering, spicy tuna roll is great too!

Came back here again and their service was way better (different servers) who checked on us and made sure we were satisfied with our orders! Edamame wasn't smushy, lightly salted. Rice to everything else ratio was good--Nothing fell apart this time! Happier with this experience than the last!

Enjoyed a delicious meal here at Sushiko. We were seated upon our arrival. Service was friendly and helpful as well as timely. The bento meal comes with salad and miso soup. The miso soup had great flavor. The dressing on the salad is how i like it. The tempura was crisp. The tofu agedashi was alright and the vegetable tempura crispness made up for the tofu. If you like bento meals, this is the place in Los Altos!

Came her for dinner on a Monday night and really enjoyed our meal. We got there around 6:30 and found ample parking in the lot. My boyfriend got a large Sapporo and we shared the Titanic, cucumber avocado roll, salmon avocado roll, and salmon scallion roll. We loved everything we got and the fish tasted delicious and fresh. You also get a complimentary bowl of miso soup and a few edamame. It took a bit to get our check just because they got so busy but we absolutely look forward to coming back!

Seated quickly and order was taken. Brought our water out with no ice and half way filled. No silverware for salad or soup. California Roll was not the best. I would give it a 2/5 and spicy Mayo a 1/5. I like different places when I visit different cities. Glad I tried this place but would not come again.

Nice people, quality food. I had the luxury of stopping by this place mid day for lunch. The stay was nice and polite, with a lot of patience as I try to figure out what I wanted. Establishment was clean, food came out looking perfect (unfortunately I didn't decide to take a pic until I already grabbed a few bites. Food tasted amazing, perfectly made. I'll be back again soon!

I hadn't had sushi like this in a very long time. Sushiko is nicely hidden in the plaza where teaspoon and the pasta market are located in Los Altos. The fish was fresh and the presentation was excellent. I also want to point out how friendly and fast the service was on a Friday evening.

The ponzu really shined and it wasn't fishy at all. Also oddly refreshing. The liver tasted like a paste almost. Sake carpaccio- Smooth, sweet, and light. The salon was nicely seared and tasted wonderful. Yakiniku Kochijan- The pizza crust was light and flaky and the cheese had an amazing cheese pull. The kimchi was subtle but it was definitely present in flavor. Jako Mentaiko Meshi- Dried fish and cod roe clay pot rice. The rice was super crispy and the dried fish had a ton of flavor. The restaurant wasn't too busy when we went for lunch, and I appreciate that they let us stay quite a bit longer to hang out even though we were too full to order more food. If you like larger portions, definitely go for the large. They mentioned it's 50% larger than their regular size, and generally only a few more dollars for each dish. The two of us who had the Nebeyaki Udon really enjoyed it. My only wish is that they would put the tempura shrimp on the side so that it doesn't get too soggy. One of us had the Niku Bukkake Udon and really enjoyed that as well, especially since it was a warm day outside. It was our first time at the Udon Mugizo, so the server offered to walk us through the menu. He explained the differences between dishes and their sizes. He even offered to show us images on his hand held ordering device since we were debating over what dishes to get. We were celebrating a birthday and the birthday celebrant received a free dessert. Kind, patient and helpful. Excellent customer service. The Order: Crispy Onigiri Bites -Chopped up pieces of well done pork Chashu with some delicious sauce and fresh green onion, all on top of crispy rice. A great starter. Tonkatsu Udon Deluxe (no spice) -The broth was well balanced. Full of flavor and not too salty. The shrimp tempura wonderful, even though it was slightly submerged so it was as crispy as I hoped. The deluxe comes with a cube of braised pork belly, and it was so tender and sweet. I could eat an entire plate of it! The noodles were perfect, soft and flavorful. The egg was sweet, but I wish I would have eaten it sooner, as I prefer the egg to be a creamier. I definitely recommend the Deluxe. Vegetable Tempura & Broccoli Tempura -A beautiful and tasty assortment of pieces. The corn was a stand out since it was off the Cobb, being held together by the tempura batter. It was delicious, with a batter that was not overly thick. Both were nice side dishes during our dinner. Kurogoma Mochi Ice Cream -The mochi may tend to stick to the paper lining, and picking them up with your fingers can be slightly sticky. The nutty flavor from the black sesame ice cream is fantastic. The pairing with the sweet chewy mochi exterior is a wonderful pairing. Matcha (Green Tea) Ice Cream -Delicious and creamy. Not overly sweet. A nice subtle creamy flavor. A great way to end the meal. The food and the service truly make this place stand out. Everything had a well balanced flavor, with the components to each dish (appetizer/side dish, soup, dessert) having a wonderful flavor journey through each bite, as the various ingredients take turns on center stage as you work your way through each dish. I will be coming back to try more of the menu, and I recommend you do too.

There was plenty of convenient parking in the plaza as it's located right next to Safeway. The restaurant filled up throughout the night but was never full, and we were able to stay all the way until closing just chatting without any complaints. One thing I noticed right away is the affordability of the rolls here, especially for the Bay Area! Most were around $15 or less and their lunch bentos are even cheaper! Will have to come back if I'm ever in the area for lunch time. Dinner combinations were normally priced but had the options of sashimi and/or specialty rolls which I don't usually see at other Japanese restaurants. 2 Item Dinner Combo: I ordered beef teriyaki and Chef's Choice sashimi (5 pc) and the portion was pretty good! They served a whole skillet of beef which was probably double the amount of meat I'm used to seeing in a bento. And the sashimi cuts were SO GOOD. Thick cuts but super buttery and fresh at the same time, wow! San Francisco Roll: The best roll we ordered! I'm sad it only came with 5 pieces because this one was really good. Lots of fresh fish inside (3 kinds!) and not too saucy, to really highlight the fish. Lion King Roll: I don't usually order Lion King but they slightly overdid the unagi sauce on this one, making everything sweet. Dragon Roll: Classic dragon roll that was slightly sweet from the unagi, but not as drenched as Lion King.

I highly recommend the katsu chicken: it had a lovely crispy exterior and paired well with the zesty dipping sauce. The teriyaki chicken was unremarkable and a bit tough to chew - it was unfortunately a skip. I really enjoyed the double salmon roll - the salmon was fatty and delicious. The spicy tuna roll was another skip. I'm usually not bothered by an extremely fishy taste, but the spicy tuna roll was noticeably fishy and unenjoyable. I would say their food is 3.5 star but I rounded it up to 4 star because we got some really good service that went beyond our expectation + their dinner combo has really good portion. My husband ordered Shioyaki Saba (grilled Mackerel) + chicken karage (fried chicken, Japanese style). I had the 8 pc sashimi + beef teriyaki. We ordered two orders of tekka maki rolls, 1 kids' chicken teriyaki plate, and agedashi tofu. We thought we might need to add more food but end up we were so stuff by the end of the dinner. At first I thought the dinner combo would come in a bento tray. But no, each item was served in their own plate. The grilled Mackerel is the largest portion we have ever seen in the SF Bay Area. Husband got two filets on the plate. The bigger piece was as long as his lower arm (!). The second piece was like 75% of the bigger piece. He said the portion is like 5x more than neighborhood restaurants up in SF as one of the 2 items in a dinner combo/bento box combo. The chicken karage was like 10 pc in the bowl. He had to share with the kids. My beef teriyaki was like 2 thinly sliced steak. It's a very generous portion - except the rice. The rice is 1 scope of rice (think of Hawaiian BBQ scopes of rice). For those who watch out their rice intake/blood sugar, it's nice to keep it moderate. Oh, and the 8 pc of sashimi - they are on the thicker side - each bite is very satisfying. Oh, and the generous portion extended to the kid's chicken teriyaki plate. Basically it's the same entree plate as the grown up dinner combo, but minus the 2nd item, the soup, the salad, and probably 25% less protein (comparing to my beef teriyaki). But it's still a very generous portion for a child. From our experience, I would say skip their agadashi tofu. We ordered one and honestly it was disappointed. Their fried chicken was pretty good but the fried tofu, frankly, did not deliver. The coating was a bit off. The crunch from crushed almond (?) just did not work for me. Service, I was shocked by the attentive service. Frankly, I don't expect much in a neighborhood casual restaurant. As long as the staffs are polite, get our order right, serve us food, we would be very happy about it. But they went beyond our expectation. The sushi chef gave us the wrong roll (gave us salmon roll instead of tuna roll). The server immediately fixed it for us when I pointed it out. But my biggest surprise was the second incident - my son dropped one of his chopstick on the floor. As he picked up on the floor and before we raised our hand to ask for a new pair of chopstick, another server brought us a pair already (!) This is not a place that you would make a special trip. But I definitely think this is a lovely spot-on neighborhood gem for those who live near MV downtown. I see myself coming to this place on a weekly basis if I were still living in MV. If I ever come back again, I will definitely give their sushi rolls a try for sure!

Long…read morewaits and forgotten orders due to online order overload, make it hard to justify dining in, despite the food quality and potential. This place is a bit of a love-hate relationship for me, and it's hard to explain. Things started off pretty smoothly. Based on reviews, I was excited to see that they offer both good sushi and ramen--and that part is true. The sushi is really good and solid overall: fresh fish, flavorful roll combinations, and well-balanced rice/ingredient ratios. The ramen is decent. The broth is flavorful, though the chashu doesn't quite compare to what you'd get at a dedicated ramen shop. Still, it's nice to have ramen as an option, especially when dining with a group. That said, service took longer than expected, especially considering ramen is usually quick to prepare. To their credit, they noticed the delay and offered us complimentary edamame, which we appreciated. About 45 minutes in, the restaurant started filling up fast. We were almost finished but decided to order sweet shrimp nigiri, something we always try when it's available. Unfortunately, that's where things went downhill. Once the crowd came in, it became very difficult to get the staff's attention due to the influx of both dine-in and online orders. At least three other tables around us were also missing items or had orders forgotten--just like us. We placed our nigiri order at 5:34 p.m. and didn't receive the two pieces until nearly 7:00 p.m. We didn't even realize how long we had waited until we were leaving. Ironically, once we mentioned it to an employee, the order came out in less than five minutes. The explanation given to multiple tables was that there were too many online orders and they couldn't stop them (??) To me, this felt more like a communication and prioritization issue. Dine-in customers shouldn't be waiting 45 minutes for two pieces of nigiri or a single maki roll. They did offer us 10% off the bill, but it didn't fully make up for the frustrating experience. The food itself is undeniably good, and this place has a lot of potential. However, I wouldn't gamble my time here again unless the service issues are addressed. I really hope they find a better system, because the quality of the food deserves it.
