40-MINUTE LUNCH SERVICE Last Tuesday I came here for lunch at the last minute. I arrived at 1:10 PM yet lunch service was going to close at 2:00 PM. I could not take too much time ordering items. For appetizers I ordered two items I'm accustomed to at Japanese restaurants - chicken kaarage and shrimp and vegetable tempura. For the sushi roll I thought about getting a shrimp tempura roll. Since I ordered a shrimp tempura I decided to get another type of roll. As Satsuma Sushi is located on E. El Camino Road I decided get order the El Camino Roll, which is a sushi roll I never ordered before I was shocked that the first time to get was the sushi roll instead of the two appetizers first. The El Camino Roll has two distinct textures. There is the raw yellow tail in the middle with the seared eel on top. When you take a bite of the roll you taste the raw and cooked fish. The El Camino Roll was filling and satisfying. I am glad I didn't order a sushi roll that I ordered before. Any items that are breaded and deep fried the breading can't be soggy. The breading on both the chicken kaarage and tempura was crispy. The meat on the chicken kaarage was moist. Even though I enjoyed the shrimp tempura I liked how the vegetable tempura wasn't overcooked. Vegetables that are overcooked tend to be mushy. However that wasn't the case with the vegetable tempura as they were cooked al dente. With a quick lunch I enjoyed my meal at Satsuma Sushi last Tuesday. I don't go to Mountain View often but if I'm craving for something to eat I know I can get a good meal at Satsuma Sushi without worrying.

We honestly weren't expecting much since this was an unplanned stop after leaving Best Buy, but I can confidently say this turned into one of the best Japanese dining experiences I've had in the Bay Area, maybe even in my life. I'm a big fan of Japanese food, and my family and I often explore different Japanese restaurants, but this was truly the best surprise we've had in years. Let me start with the service: the staff was incredibly kind and patient when they noticed my son's autism lanyard, and they even allowed us to come in with our emotional support dog without us needing to ask, that level of empathy and awareness meant a lot to us. Right at the beginning, I had what was honestly the best miso soup I've ever had, followed by the best sunomono as well. What was supposed to be simple dishes already exceeded all my expectations, so by the time the main rolls arrived, my expectations were high, and somehow they still surpassed them. We ordered the Philadelphia Roll, Lion King Roll, and the Golden Bear Roll (highly recommended by our server). Not only were they beautifully presented, but they were absolutely delicious, truly some of the best rolls I've ever had! You've gained a loyal customer. Excellent food, outstanding service, and great pricing. We will definitely be back, not just once, but many, many times! If I had the chance, I would definitely give more than five stars!

Super delicious Sashimi really fresh! You have to try their wagyu beef Nigri, and Blue fin Taro. It melts in your mouth. Friendly service! Plenty of seatings.

Used to come here often with my colleagues when I used to work in Mountain View. Always liked their special rolls options. One time we had also ordered the boat (we were in a large group). Fish tastes fresh and the rolls are really good. Have started coming here again. And, it is still as good.

We were looking for some good sushi before flying home. Stopped here on the way to the airport. Miso soup was salty. I asked for iced green tea and got iced black tea. My wife asked for hot green tea, got hot water. Asked to have it replaced with green tea and got the same hot water. The agedashi tofu was tasteless. The sushi deluxe combo looked nice, but the fish was veiny and the rice seemed like it was a day old. It was hard and not very tasty. I didn't finish my sushi. On the plus side, it had a nice atmosphere and the servers did a decent job. That said, we will not come here again!!

6/12/2024 Satsuma Sushi 705 E El Camino Real Mountain View, CA 94040 We went there for a quick lunch around 1PM on a Wednesday. It's next to Best Buy so there's lots of parking. There is a small sushi bar with half the chairs used for storage. The dining area is a booth, table and bench layout. We both ordered rolls, Musashi for Wifey and El Camino for me. The fish in mine was fresh, tasty and plentiful. I thought the lettuce in the Musashi was a little odd but overall a good roll. Service was fast and attentive. I've had the bento boxes before a long time ago and they were also good. Definitely repeatable.

Not too busy on a Saturday afternoon. Almost empty upon arrival so we got seated right away and service was really attentive. Ordered Miso Soup, Kampachi Sashimi, the Lion King Roll (not baked btw), & the Sakura roll. Just a few bad notes: the tempura batter on the Lion King Roll was slightly stale, the rice was oddly kind of cold, and the ginger was also a bit dry/ not fresh. Overall, I'd say this is a decent spot. My fave was the Sakura Roll and I liked that the Kampachi Sashimi slices were chunky. I even enjoyed their hot green tea haha

Fresh fish, attentive service, and reasonable pricing. My favorite is the sashimi salad. Others like the rolls and sushi nigiri. Our go-to sushi restaurant if we are in the area.

My favorite poke was the spicy mango tuna--so flavorful. They even include a mini bottle of soy sauce, which was such a cute touch. There are plenty of sides to choose from, and you get a really good amount of rice. The sushi boat is definitely on the pricier side, and I was a bit skeptical at first because of the packaging. I wasn't sure if the quality would live up to the presentation, but it absolutely did. The packaging is not only fun but also super functional--perfect for taking to the beach, a park, or a party.

The restaurant wasn't too busy when we went for lunch, and I appreciate that they let us stay quite a bit longer to hang out even though we were too full to order more food. If you like larger portions, definitely go for the large. They mentioned it's 50% larger than their regular size, and generally only a few more dollars for each dish. The two of us who had the Nebeyaki Udon really enjoyed it. My only wish is that they would put the tempura shrimp on the side so that it doesn't get too soggy. One of us had the Niku Bukkake Udon and really enjoyed that as well, especially since it was a warm day outside. The restaurant itself is nice and clean, and the seating is spacious, allowing for a feeling of some privacy. I appreciate they don't pack everyone in together.

The seating layout leaves a wide walkway in the center of the dinning room, allowing the dinning experience feel intimate even when people are seated nearby. The service was excellent. It was our first time at the Udon Mugizo, so the server offered to walk us through the menu. He explained the differences between dishes and their sizes. He even offered to show us images on his hand held ordering device since we were debating over what dishes to get. We were celebrating a birthday and the birthday celebrant received a free dessert. Kind, patient and helpful. Excellent customer service. The Order: Crispy Onigiri Bites -Chopped up pieces of well done pork Chashu with some delicious sauce and fresh green onion, all on top of crispy rice. A great starter. Tonkatsu Udon Deluxe (no spice) -The broth was well balanced. Full of flavor and not too salty. The shrimp tempura wonderful, even though it was slightly submerged so it was as crispy as I hoped. The deluxe comes with a cube of braised pork belly, and it was so tender and sweet. I could eat an entire plate of it! The noodles were perfect, soft and flavorful. The egg was sweet, but I wish I would have eaten it sooner, as I prefer the egg to be a creamier. I definitely recommend the Deluxe. Vegetable Tempura & Broccoli Tempura -A beautiful and tasty assortment of pieces. The corn was a stand out since it was off the Cobb, being held together by the tempura batter. It was delicious, with a batter that was not overly thick. Both were nice side dishes during our dinner. Kurogoma Mochi Ice Cream -The mochi may tend to stick to the paper lining, and picking them up with your fingers can be slightly sticky. The nutty flavor from the black sesame ice cream is fantastic. The pairing with the sweet chewy mochi exterior is a wonderful pairing. Matcha (Green Tea) Ice Cream -Delicious and creamy. Not overly sweet. A nice subtle creamy flavor. A great way to end the meal. The food and the service truly make this place stand out. Everything had a well balanced flavor, with the components to each dish (appetizer/side dish, soup, dessert) having a wonderful flavor journey through each bite, as the various ingredients take turns on center stage as you work your way through each dish. I will be coming back to try more of the menu, and I recommend you do too.

No heaviness, no grease. Just very solid comfort food done right. The double meat katsu does not come with curry sauce, even though the name and the photo make it seem like it does. What actually comes out is a lot of cabbage, a small amount of rice, and no curry. You can order curry sauce on the side, but it's a very small portion for the price--more like a dipping sauce than something you can really pour over your katsu and rice. Because of that, we usually end up making our own curry and rice at home to pair with their katsu. I personally skip the premium tonkatsu since it's a bit too fatty for me, but the regular pork and the chicken are both excellent and dependable. Bottom line: the katsu is genuinely delicious--just don't rely on the photos when ordering if curry is what you're craving.

There was plenty of convenient parking in the plaza as it's located right next to Safeway. The restaurant filled up throughout the night but was never full, and we were able to stay all the way until closing just chatting without any complaints. One thing I noticed right away is the affordability of the rolls here, especially for the Bay Area! Most were around $15 or less and their lunch bentos are even cheaper! Will have to come back if I'm ever in the area for lunch time. Dinner combinations were normally priced but had the options of sashimi and/or specialty rolls which I don't usually see at other Japanese restaurants. 2 Item Dinner Combo: I ordered beef teriyaki and Chef's Choice sashimi (5 pc) and the portion was pretty good! They served a whole skillet of beef which was probably double the amount of meat I'm used to seeing in a bento. And the sashimi cuts were SO GOOD. Thick cuts but super buttery and fresh at the same time, wow! San Francisco Roll: The best roll we ordered! I'm sad it only came with 5 pieces because this one was really good. Lots of fresh fish inside (3 kinds!) and not too saucy, to really highlight the fish. Lion King Roll: I don't usually order Lion King but they slightly overdid the unagi sauce on this one, making everything sweet. The teriyaki chicken was unremarkable and a bit tough to chew - it was unfortunately a skip. I really enjoyed the double salmon roll - the salmon was fatty and delicious. The spicy tuna roll was another skip. I'm usually not bothered by an extremely fishy taste, but the spicy tuna roll was noticeably fishy and unenjoyable.
