Caught a quick late afternoon lunch with the bro-in-law and hubs. We were immediately welcomed and shown our seats. Restaurant was clean and bright. The teriyaki chicken was ok but lacked flavor. The California Roll was definitely flavorless and the rice a tad mushy. The miso soup was served before the meal, had little chunks of tofu and was luke warm although the flavor was there. The restaurant receives a lot of to go orders for pick up and actually turned away two couples as they were closing to prepare for dinner. I honestly was not a fan of the meal but don't hesitate to give it a try.
40-MINUTE LUNCH SERVICE Last Tuesday I came here for lunch at the last minute. I arrived at 1:10 PM yet lunch service was going to close at 2:00 PM. I could not take too much time ordering items. For appetizers I ordered two items I'm accustomed to at Japanese restaurants - chicken kaarage and shrimp and vegetable tempura. For the sushi roll I thought about getting a shrimp tempura roll. Since I ordered a shrimp tempura I decided to get another type of roll. As Satsuma Sushi is located on E. El Camino Road I decided get order the El Camino Roll, which is a sushi roll I never ordered before I was shocked that the first time to get was the sushi roll instead of the two appetizers first. The El Camino Roll has two distinct textures. There is the raw yellow tail in the middle with the seared eel on top. When you take a bite of the roll you taste the raw and cooked fish. The El Camino Roll was filling and satisfying. I am glad I didn't order a sushi roll that I ordered before. Any items that are breaded and deep fried the breading can't be soggy. The breading on both the chicken kaarage and tempura was crispy. The meat on the chicken kaarage was moist. Even though I enjoyed the shrimp tempura I liked how the vegetable tempura wasn't overcooked. Vegetables that are overcooked tend to be mushy. However that wasn't the case with the vegetable tempura as they were cooked al dente. With a quick lunch I enjoyed my meal at Satsuma Sushi last Tuesday. I don't go to Mountain View often but if I'm craving for something to eat I know I can get a good meal at Satsuma Sushi without worrying.
It kills me to do this, but this place has fallen off hard. We used to eat here regularly until we moved farther away, and it was always a solid and reliable neighborhood sushi joint. I was nearby last week and decided to drop in for lunch for old time's sake, so I ordered a roll and an order of gyoza. The gyoza came to the table browned on the bottom but limp and soggy, like they had been cooked earlier and then microwaved. Everyone knows the whole point of pan-fried gyoza is the crispy bottom that contrasts with the steamed wrapper, so I flagged down the server and said "aren't these supposed to be crispy?" She took the plate back to the kitchen, then brought them back a few minutes later "crispy" -- they had dumped them into the deep-fryer. Deep-fried gyoza are vastly inferior to pan-fried/steamed gyoza, but the truly egregious thing about this is they had deep-fried the one where I had already bitten off the end. The roll was OK but not amazing; nori was chewy, and I found a tough piece of avocado skin inside one of the pieces. So, I won't be back. It was pretty slow inside at prime lunch hours so I guess the locals know what's up as well.
Super delicious Sashimi really fresh! You have to try their wagyu beef Nigri, and Blue fin Taro. It melts in your mouth. Friendly service! Plenty of seatings.
We honestly weren't expecting much since this was an unplanned stop after leaving Best Buy, but I can confidently say this turned into one of the best Japanese dining experiences I've had in the Bay Area, maybe even in my life. I'm a big fan of Japanese food, and my family and I often explore different Japanese restaurants, but this was truly the best surprise we've had in years. Let me start with the service: the staff was incredibly kind and patient when they noticed my son's autism lanyard, and they even allowed us to come in with our emotional support dog without us needing to ask, that level of empathy and awareness meant a lot to us. Right at the beginning, I had what was honestly the best miso soup I've ever had, followed by the best sunomono as well. What was supposed to be simple dishes already exceeded all my expectations, so by the time the main rolls arrived, my expectations were high, and somehow they still surpassed them. We ordered the Philadelphia Roll, Lion King Roll, and the Golden Bear Roll (highly recommended by our server). Not only were they beautifully presented, but they were absolutely delicious, truly some of the best rolls I've ever had! You've gained a loyal customer. Excellent food, outstanding service, and great pricing. We will definitely be back, not just once, but many, many times! If I had the chance, I would definitely give more than five stars!
Used to come here often with my colleagues when I used to work in Mountain View. Always liked their special rolls options. One time we had also ordered the boat (we were in a large group). Fish tastes fresh and the rolls are really good. Have started coming here again. And, it is still as good.
We were looking for some good sushi before flying home. Stopped here on the way to the airport. Miso soup was salty. I asked for iced green tea and got iced black tea. My wife asked for hot green tea, got hot water. Asked to have it replaced with green tea and got the same hot water. The agedashi tofu was tasteless. The sushi deluxe combo looked nice, but the fish was veiny and the rice seemed like it was a day old. It was hard and not very tasty. I didn't finish my sushi. On the plus side, it had a nice atmosphere and the servers did a decent job. That said, we will not come here again!!
6/12/2024 Satsuma Sushi 705 E El Camino Real Mountain View, CA 94040 We went there for a quick lunch around 1PM on a Wednesday. It's next to Best Buy so there's lots of parking. There is a small sushi bar with half the chairs used for storage. The dining area is a booth, table and bench layout. We both ordered rolls, Musashi for Wifey and El Camino for me. The fish in mine was fresh, tasty and plentiful. I thought the lettuce in the Musashi was a little odd but overall a good roll. Service was fast and attentive. I've had the bento boxes before a long time ago and they were also good. Definitely repeatable.
Age Dashi Dofu- good Ika Yaki- grilled squid TOUGH. They can prep it to be tender The bentos were reasonably priced with decent variety. Interior was fine, would come back again. Service was nice also.

Really enjoyed my experience here! I started with the **baked mussels**, which were great. They had a slight spicy wasabi flavor on top, but thankfully the wasabi wasn't overpowering. I'd give these an **8.5/10**. The **fried oysters** were also really good. The oysters themselves were cooked well, but I wasn't a big fan of the sauce because it had way too much wasabi for my taste. Without the sauce, these would have been even better. **8/10**. The highlight for me was the **sashimi dinner**. This was extremely impressive for the price, especially considering the portion sizes. The pieces of fish were huge! I got the salmon, tuna, and albacore (white tuna), and all three were fresh and delicious. This is definitely a dish that will fill you up, and I'd recommend sharing it because of how generous the portions are. It also came with a cup of white rice and miso soup. I'd rate the sashimi dinner **9/10**. The **miso soup deserves its own rating -- 10/10!** Definitely one of the best miso soups I've ever had. It had a really great flavor and was the perfect addition to the meal. The **service was amazing** as well. The servers were very attentive and took great care of me, even though I came in about 30 minutes before closing, which I really appreciated. The ambiance is nice too. The restaurant was **clean, quiet, and comfortable**, making it a great place to sit down and enjoy a meal. Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely come back again to try some of the other dishes. There's plenty on the menu that I'm looking forward to trying next time! read more
Uber Eat order. The sushi are nicely packed and after we got it they are still warm. Utensils are provided with extra soy sauce. We tried the Fried Alaska Roll which has lots of cream cheese. We also had the Sagano Roll which is ok, slightly spicy for the kid. The Fried Alaska Roll is a hit with the kids without even any soy sauce. In general the rolls we tried are ok, but not a lot to write about. read more
We've driven by often, but finally decided to stop by for lunch on a holiday weekday. It was mostly full, but we were able to be seated quickly. There was a large, rowdy party seated near us, but when they had finally left, the restaurant became much quieter. We ordered the sashimi dinner (because during holidays, there's no lunch option), lion king roll, and salmon paradise roll. The sashimi quality was incredibly variable. The salmon was decent, but the hamachi and the tuna were awful. They were strangely firm and tasted off. The presentation and taste of the rolls could use some work. The sauce didn't taste like much, but nor did the fish. They're probably the smallest sushi rolls we've had from any restaurant. Maybe we came on a bad day, but with how expensive everything was, we're not sure if we'd consider a second chance. read more

First time back at Satsuma since my pregnancy, and it was just as wonderful as I remembered. The food was excellent as always, and the staff were incredibly kind and welcoming. They also have high chairs available for little ones. Looking forward to coming back regularly! read more

Not too busy on a Saturday afternoon. Almost empty upon arrival so we got seated right away and service was really attentive. Ordered Miso Soup, Kampachi Sashimi, the Lion King Roll (not baked btw), & the Sakura roll. Just a few bad notes: the tempura batter on the Lion King Roll was slightly stale, the rice was oddly kind of cold, and the ginger was also a bit dry/ not fresh. Overall, I'd say this is a decent spot. My fave was the Sakura Roll and I liked that the Kampachi Sashimi slices were chunky. I even enjoyed their hot green tea haha read more

Here is my scoring card for this restaurant: 1) Location: ( 5 Point ) - Great location for customer to see and find. Great parking for street parking and back side with parking lot parking. And next to El Camino Clinic. 2) Decoration : (2 Point) - They still have the original decoration. Clean but not up to date. 3) Price: ( 4 point)- The price is competitive but still a little bit pricey compare to other same stars and type food they serve 4) Quality and Taste : ( 1 point)- The quality is ok, food taste is good and portions are below average . And one bad thing. I got a sashimi with a bone in it. It got caught in my throat and one more minor bad thing. The server gave our Hamachi Kama to the table next to us by accident or on purpose? ( anyone order hamachi Kama know that this dish takes time. We fish all the food and have to wait extra 15 min for the Kama. That sucks! The server spend time talking to the table next to us and didn't play attention to the food she served. ( BAD) I got the bad experience.. two of us spend over $200 and this is what my first experience. Disappointed. 5) Type of cuisine standard : ( 4 point) - The style of Japanese food they serve is pretty close to the way it was prepare in Japan. Not bad! But some dishes did have slightly modify to cater the customer's need Overall it's not bad ( beside the bad service and the experience I received) and I thinks it's great to give it a try and let me know what you think. My Husband and I love to go to Satsuma, the staff is very courteous, it pays attention to every customer with no rush and stress free. The food it's 5 *****, fresh seafood. They recently remodeled and looks very nice with the orange tone on the walls keeping the vintage Japanese arts, enjoy the ambiance. It worth it read more
I ordered the Salmon Paradise roll and I wasn't the biggest fan. The salmon tempura inside of it was dry and tasted a little too fishy for me. Also, I didn't really like the mayo sauce on top since it was overpowering in my opinion. Considering the dish wasn't cheap (I believe it was ~$17), I wouldn't get this again. I tried the Alaska roll (salmon and avocado) and thought it was much better. The service was okay. Our waters were filled multiple times, but there were a couple minor issues. For the first two plates they brought out, they didn't clarify that they put two different rolls on the same plate so they actually brought out 3 dishes but only two plates. This led to some confusion in our group and someone accidentally started eating someone else's order since they put both plates in front of him. While this isn't necessarily the services fault, I think this could've been avoided if the server had explained that they combined two rolls onto one plate and/or knew who ordered what. Lastly, most of the food came out in a reasonable time, but my salmon paradise roll came about 15 minutes after everyone else got their food. Overall, while I didn't enjoy my order, the rest of the food looked pretty good. This restaurant is fine, but considering its prices and the plethora of other sushi places in the bay, I wouldn't exactly say this place is a must visit. read more
A classic Japanese and sushi restaurant in South Bay with lots of options including appetizers, sushi rolls, udon, and rice bowls. The menu was pretty affordable, especially the lunch specials and combos ($12-20) I'd give the Okayo Don 5/5. If came with a nice miso soup, and the rice bow l was filled to the brim with veggies, egg, chicken, rice, and a sweet sauce. It was $16 and I still have so much leftover! Service here was great and always followed up on how we were doing. They also offered free tea with our meals including refills! read more

Newly remodeled Satsuma sushi restaurant at Mountain View , it gives us a very welcoming atmosphere! I am sitting at the sushi bar , met with Chef Sunny a very handsome and kind chef ! He gave me a warm welcome with a great smile and brought me a cup of green tea. Recommended me a set of combinations sushi and assorted sashimi. The fish are very fresh, chef Sunny was handling the fish with great care and professionalism! Weekly Satsuma sushi order fresh fish box from Toyosu fish market Japan and also he is using highest quality farm raised bluefin tuna which is sustainable daily! I enjoyed the sushi and sashimi so much that I had to ask for a to go box and take it home to share with my wife! Truly 2 thumbs up ! The service, waiter are also very friendly and pay so much attention to customers! I also ordered the shrimp tempura which is just fresh fried in the back kitchen! Very impressive ! Decent Japanese food! We ordered on their website and it estimated our food would be done in 45 min. We arrived to the restaurant in less than an hour and they said the order wasn't ready yet... but there was a table full of lots takeout orders. We waited about 13 minutes, and the worker realized that our order had been sitting there on the table the whole time! We waited for nothing. I got the Oyako Don ($14) and it was pretty good. Seasoned and flavored very well. Fluffy egg and tender chicken, but the bowl had A LOT of onion. Though the onion was good, there was more onion than egg and chicken. Very little carrots and vegetables. read more
