This reviews has been long overdue. Sushiko is an amazing diamond in the rough. Food, price, and service are all top notch! The waitress (I've only seen one person) is extremely nice, observant, and attentive. One time when dining out with friends she brought the wrong dish. My friend didn't want to make a scene so he ate it anyway. On a cursory visit, the waitress immediately noticed and asked whether he wanted his original dish, but he politely declined. Later, she brought him his original dish to-go at no additional charge. Outside of outstanding service, the quality, portions, and price of the food is amazing. Sushiko also provides free edamame and miso soup, and occasionally the chef gives out free sushi! Ever since my first visit I've instantly become a fan. read more

Japanese decor and Korean pop. Friendly service and free edamame and miso soup. The woman who served us was just the right balance between chatty and efficient. She's the ajima type who makes you feel like you're at your auntie's. Menu feels slightly out of order and they don't have iced tea. Torn banquette seats are covered up by flat Japanese zabuton pillows. Overheard someone order a bento and call it a "benno." Sorry, that's a discontinued piece of Ikea furniture. You're looking for "ben-toe." The tuna was so fishy I couldn't swallow it. (You don't wanna know how I had to stealth-get-rid-of it.)The salmon and escolar (ono) were also fishy. The yellowtail was pretty good, but I have a higher tolerance for fishiness in hamachi. The real crab was dry and had no mayo. The spicy tuna was pretty mild for a Korean-run place, though some pieces of the same roll were significantly spicier than other pieces. Also the nigiri wasn't tightly shaped and many fell apart when trying to pick it up with chopsticks. The lady was so nice and chatty I feel really bad saying I can't see returning. Too bad, since this is closer and the parking is less of a nightmare than the Castro St. area. And the ambience is a lot nicer than Niji, which has standout quality fish but has a dining area that leaves much to be desired. Prices are slightly cheaper here, too, I felt, than most places around here. 5 pairs of nigiri and 1 spicy tuna roll with full table service came out to $40 before tip, versus Cardinal, a fast casual hole-in-the-wall that does mostly Doordash takeout business, where 4 pairs of nigiri (largely the same ones) and a spicy tuna roll was $32. And the kani is much better at Cardinal. But the fact that I couldn't even keep the tuna down just kills it for me. I mean I've had bad tuna up here but this might be the worst. It was fine in the spicy tuna roll where the spice covered up the fishiness, but if this is where their standards are, I can't justify chancing eating raw fish here. I feel really bad giving a low review to what appears to be a local institution. But I use my Yelp ratings to remember where I do and don't want to return to, and my minimum standard for giving a 3 is if I would consider coming back. Unfortunately not. read more

Very good quality sashimi, sushi rolls, and tempura. We ordered two rolls to share (49ers and crunch roll) and a tempura appetizer while my girlfriend and I both ordered the Salmon lover sashimi combo. Service was friendly but a little muddled in communication issues and they forgot to take my dad's order (-1 star). Both rolls were very well made and didn't fall apart when you grabbed them with chopsticks or dipped them in soy sauce. I really enjoyed the crunch roll, which was a shrimp tempura roll topped with spicy crab meat. It also came with a lot of extra tempura crumbs which I happily spooned into my mouth LOL. My girlfriend preferred the 49ers roll, which was layered with a thick piece of salmon and balanced well with the lemon slice. The tempura appetizer was fresh and crispy, although I did find the addition of broccoli tempura a little strange and mushy. The Salmon lover combo was phenomenal; it came with 6 maki, 3 nigiri, and 5 sashimi pieces plated elegantly over a bed of daikon radish. I enjoyed the sashimi the most, which was thick, buttery, and not stringy unlike other sushi restaurants at this price point. The nigiri was great as well, though their rice could use a little bit more acidity. If it weren't for the fact that my dad's order was forgotten, I'd give this place 4 stars. I ordered via DoorDash, scheduled to be picked up at a certain time. I got a notification it was ready about 30 minutes before that time, and when I arrived the host very abruptly just said, "You're late." (The restaurant was still open.) I said that I had scheduled pickup, and he told me that they don't do scheduled pickup, you just get the food when it's ready, "that's why it says 30-40 minutes." The food was fine, but I was displeased by the customer service. I totally understand if there's some miscommunication between them and DoorDash, but I would have appreciated someone saying "sorry for the confusion" over accusing me of being late. Bottom line - Don't bother with scheduled pickup, they don't do it. read more

Final sushi lunch of the summer before my boy goes back to college. I let him pick his favorite and order whatever he wanted. Sushiko was the pic. This strip mall has always had great lunch options ever since I worked two blocks away 20+ years ago. The hostess/owners are always very welcoming. A got 3 different rolls. I didn't take notes, because I thought I'd have use of the online menu when writing this review. Alas they're not online, so I'll have to describe the items as best I can. I had a roll to start which had maguro, crab, avocado and? I loved it but wished it had been a bit more convenient to eat. I always heard that traditionally each sushi piece should be eaten in one bite. This was a bite and a half for each piece and no way to hold things together once the first bite was taken. I also had a bento with gyoza and tempura. It was very tasty, except the shrimp piece in the tempura was soggy and undercooked. A had a spicy tuna roll, spider roll, and oops, can't remember, some kind of crunch roll, with tempura crumblies all around. The miso was excellent, the obligatory salad was so-so with a limp pinkish tomato. All the raw fish was pristine. Nothing very creative, but definitely solid! read more

My first sushi takeout since the shelter in place started, and this definitely hit the spot. I ordered a bunch of nigiri, the Mr Sushiko roll, and the Albacore Love roll. I've never eaten at this restaurant before so really don't have a comparison, but the takeout sushi was really good. All of the fish was really fresh and they gave generous portions. I really enjoyed the Mr. Sushiko roll as well - shrimp tempura and spicy tuna on the inside, tuna/unagi/avocado on the outside. Came by here for lunch with a coworker. It wasn't too packed when we arrived shortly before noon. A good amount of tables and a small sushi bar. Their sushi is like a book, so many choices, and their prices are unbelievably fair for a sushi joint. They have special lunches for the day, and their bentos are only $8.95 (2 item) or $11.95 for 3! Dinner is only a few dollars more. Lots of choices, but I settled on a bento as that is the best bang for the price. I went with the chicken katsu, shrimp and vegetable tempura, and california roll, which also comes with rice, soup and salad. They also have Korean items which is a no brainer that this is Korean owned. They gave us edamame and the soup to start with, and service was very pleasant from beginning to end. My coworker's rolls came out first and the spicy crunch had a ton of tempura flakes over it! Mounds and mounds of it! They are very generous with their portions and my food was about average for Japanese/Korean lunch fare. Nothing over the top, but still very good. Chicken katsu was perfectly fried, but some of the chicken was a bit too fatty. Good tempura, surprised they gave me 2 shrimps, and california rolls were pretty good (no cucumber though). Decided to try Sushiki based on a yelp search. It's located in a complex and it was fairly easy to find parking on a Friday night. I loved that they provided miso soup with our order. Service seemed just a tad slow but was really friendly. We ordered multiple rolls which were delicious. They also sent over a chefs special at the end which was better than the actual roll that I ordered. This is my go-to place for Japanese food; bento boxes or sushi.

There are a lot of great restaurants in this area, so I'm glad I can Sushiko to my rotation when I'm in the mood for Japanese. The place was packed on a weekday evening, while still being warm, cozy, and family-friendly. The menu had a lot of good offerings without distracting you with pages and pages of overly sauced up and fried rolls. It has the usual choices of sashimi, some simple rolls, to hot plates like noodles and bento. The prices are really reasonable as well, which is great when you want to try a bunch of dishes and share. We chose the 49er roll, hwae dup bap (chirashi rice bowl), and seafood udon. We also got a spicy tuna roll to take home. We enjoyed everything, but the udon was my favorite. I noticed that there were a lot of choices (nabeyaki, seafood, beef, etc.) and the prices were cheaper than anywhere else. I was surprised by the amount of fresh ingredients (see photo) and portion size, enough for two. I would try to ask to add an egg next time, because that would make it even more amazing. The 49ers roll was probably the best version I've had, as it was made with fresh salmon belly (much more of a melt-in-your-mouth texture and thus a pricier cut). The chirashi was also delicious, with a generous variety of fish, fresh mix of veggies, and perfectly cooked rice. Don't hesitate to ask for more sauce or sesame oil to make it reach that perfect level of umami! Most of all, I was blown away by how nice and friendly the staff is. Even though it was a full house, they took time to talk to their regulars and even play with the kids. They checked on everyone often, and took care of everything quickly without needing to be flagged down. They're closed on Sundays but open at 5pm, so get there early to avoid the wait. read more

I ordered from Sushiko via UberEats. Despite the good reviews here, I am pretty disappointed. Below are the food items I ordered: Bento Box with 3 items: - Chicken Katsu: 1/5- super dry and some even look like they were partially burnt...I couldn't eat it, it was that bad. I've always ordered Chicken Katsu in any new Japanese restaurant that I try, and I am sorry to say that this is the WORST chicken Katsu i've ever had. Maybe I caught them on a bad day, I don't know... - Agedashi Tofu: 3/5- it's just ok. The skin on the tofu falls off too easily and the tofu itself is too soft to be able for me to eat it with the chopsticks. Not sure if that's how authentic Agedashi Tofu are supposed to be, but it's just not my preference. Other than that, the tofu mixed with the sauce tastes good. - Gyoza: 3/5- just ok, edible but nothing special. Again, not sure if I just caught them on a bad day, since most of the reviews on here are good. I'll update my review the next time I try this restaurant. read more

Most the the time (80% of the time) the sushi is excellent. The other times it is either not as tasty or very very small. I would prefer it they could maintain the consistency. Coming here often for lunch, nice food and warm services! I have introduced several friends to go so far. Food: especially love the lunch Benton box, sashimi is fresh and chicken tiraraky is delicious. Service: very warm hello and goodbye when I walk in and out. The waitress adds hot tea frequently and likes to catch small talks. The chef is very sweet to offer free sushi samples occasionally. Environment: I enjoy sitting on the booth which they have enough of those. I sat at the bar area once also, very quiet and nice experience. Definitely will go again! read more

Unfortunately some of the most rude restaurant staff I have ever encountered. They yelled at me and my 7 year old daughter for her leaving a seat cover floating in the toilet (maybe get a stronger flush if you're going to monitor and shame your customers?) Cute sushi place in Los Altos near the San Antonio Shopping Center. We ordered an albacore tataki appetizer, the salmon sushi combo, and a Miss Sushiko (yellowtail, special) roll. The food came with free miso soup and edamame. The albacore was the best overall, while the salmon sashimi was the next best. The special roll, though colorful, was alright, though I was maybe too distracted by my dinner conversation to pay attention to the taste. Everything was fresh and clean! We planned to go to Spicy Leaves next door but got distracted. Sushiko is a pretty little restaurant with a big mural of Mt. Fuji on the wall. The meal started with free edamame. Free anything is always good. They have a sign that says 10% off orders. 10% off things is also good. My husband had the beef teriyaki and sashimi combo. He found the beef fatty but liked the sashimi. The combos came with soup and salad. The salad dressing was a big hit. I had the salmon teriyaki with nigiri combo. The salmon was fishy and bland. I had three pieces of California rolls which were fine. (Yeah, I'm not a sushi purist and I like California rolls. So sue me.) They were made with fake crab but there is a real crab option if you pay extra. The nigiri also included three pieces each of hamachi, maguro, and ebi. The shrimp smelled like disinfectant but admittedly I don't have raw shrimp often. read more
