Absolute disappointment. We had a 7:30 PM reservation at Sushi Jin for a birthday celebration, but we were left standing outside in the wind until 7:45 PM. What is the point of a reservation if it's not honored? The food was extremely average and didn't justify the price or the wait. The worst part was finding a hair in our soup--absolutely revolting and a clear sign of poor hygiene standards. To make matters even worse, both of us caught a cold the next day from waiting outside in the chil Save your time and money--go somewhere that actually respects its customers.

A fancy Japanese restaurant located in a plaza, definitely needs some attention to find the restaurant entrance. And this is a restaurant you need reservation ahead of time. And it has limited seatings maybe 22 including 8 bar seating where you can watch the chefs' work, and 14 table seatings. Two options for your food choice: omakase or dishes by order. For reservations, it marks your event on your seating, such as birthday, anniversary... it is strict on the seating time because the business model is time slots based, like 5pm one, 7:300pm one.... We ordered the omakase, couple appetizers, 10 nigiri and one soup ( details shown in the attached menu). The food and service is decent, the most impressive one is the fried scallop, juicy and flavorful. And a little disappointing with the ending soup, the mochi cake was bland and soup was not impressive. At the end, the waitress brought a pink sake for birthday treat, sweet and good. Took one star due to high expectations on more creative dish and better service for the waiting time service.

5* Value 4.5 Food 5* Service 5* Ambiance Unexpected gem in a typical strip bar, average stores, which is anything but appealing. Behind a very inconspicuous business front entrance awaits an exceptional visit and fine quality Japanese cuisine. The quality of the fish was excellent, with perfect cuts and preparations. Professional and kind service made our dining experience very special. We ordered the omakasi, and the order started and ended on a spectacular note. Some of the sushi choices in the middle of the service were not as pleasing, although still quality. Save room for dessert, as we were all blown away! Generally not a fan of Creme Brulee, however, the sake creme brulee at Sushi Jin was silky, delicious, with the right amount of sweetness. The Sweet Potato Ice Cream was unique, creamy, and delicious.

I came here with a few friends for a birthday, it's a very intimate restaurant, about 6-8 seats at the bar and about 10-12 tables (each for 2) holding up to about 30 people at one time in there. We arrived a few minutes early to check-in and was promoted that we would be seated a few minutes after our reservations as they were getting things ready, not a big problem! We got inside, seated, and looked through the drinks menu. The restaurant had already asked us beforehand if we wanted the Omakase or à la carte; half of us did one and the other did the other. I had the Omakase and was ready to dig into some hot sake! We ordered a few, and I had to try their Suntory draft beer which was nice and crisp! After our friends ordered there personal items, the Omakase menu started rolling out, each item had its own amazing taste to it and I really enjoyed the last 2, which was I believe King Mackerel and fatty tuna, the breaded scallop with the sauce was also on the top of my favorite items for the Omakase! Overall, it's a pretty good Omakase for the price, and I would definitely come back again, but would do à la carte as I wanted to try the miso-cured black cod!

An intimate restaurant that serves omakase and a la carte options. We got the omakase and sat at the sushi bar. The food quality was top notch as we were served some delicious nigiri. The highlight for me from the three appetizers prior to the sushi was the Hokkaido Scallop that was fried on the outside. The scallop was cooked perfectly with medium rare inside and then paired well with the crunchy outside. I loved their teapots as each one was unique. We ordered the barley tea which was comforting on a cold night. At the end they give you an umami dish which is a miso soup with a grilled mochi. I do wish that they gave us a carb such as a noodle at the end. The sushi was so good and they capped it off with a chutoro with egg yolk on top. We did like our experience here, however, would have loved more interaction with us and the sushi chefs if possible. Also, the rice underneath the nigiri was often not packed tightly so it would sometimes fall apart when we picked it up. Overall a solid special occasion restaurant for affordable omakase prices.

A great experience for an anniversary dinner! Easy parking, but the location is not obvious. It's next to the animal hospital and nail salon. As soon as you walk in, the service was amazing! They really take care of you and explain each dish well between servings. Presentation and even their tea pots were beautiful. I enjoyed everything!! My favorites were definitely the first appetizer - fish with greens in a sesame dressing, the scallops (great texture contrast), the miso soup with grilled mochi (so good!!), and I read in another's review, the one that tastes like a grilled hot dog LOL. That one was actually me and my bf's favorite as we really enjoyed the smoky flavor. The last bite of nigiri with the egg yolk was so rich and buttery. Honorable mention is the tofu cream + fig that came with the grilled fish appetizer. We also added the ankimo (monkfish liver) as it was recommended. It's liver so it was a bit bitter, but very creamy. No uni in this tasting, but there is an uni flight you can add on. I did wish we sat at the bar versus a table. Maybe you have to add a special request in the notes when you make a reservation. This is my 2nd time experiencing omakase. My first was with Daiji's Yacht Club in SF. Sushi Jin is an affordable option for omakase and I definitely recommend for a special occasion!

Back again a year later and still had an incredible experience celebrating a birthday and a first timer to omakase! Booking a reservation was easy and loved the little birthday card presented at the table. They were more than accommodating for some personal requests. Our server recommended some sake and gave really amazing options that really suited our tastes. We got a glass of the Heiwa Shuzo Muryozan, junmai ginjo and Akabu Junmai Ginjo. The menu included sakizuke as our first app, kamasu as second app then chawanmushi (my fave) and started our 10 piece nigiri set, did a supplement of uni and finished off with suimono. Out of all the items the chawanmushi, barracuda, toro topped with cured egg yolk and arctic char were all stand outs. For supplement, we had to finish with uni I do wish they did include dessert in their omakase menu. Service was good, love watching chefs working in the open kitchen. Though I wish ours was a little bit more conversational, though he was very attentive throughout the entirety of the dining experience. Our server was also lovely and attentive with drinks and providing recommendations. Price point is still pretty good, as omakase prices have only increased so much at $155. A great experience and amazing food. I love that they also always seem to have regulars here as well. Truly a hidden gem!

Came here for Valentine's day and had such an amazing experience! From the moment we arrived, the service was excellent. The staff set up a rose on each table as everyone there was a couple. The difference in this omakase versus other ones I've tried had to be in the variety of each course. Usually, the omakase I've had consists of just different nigiri's, but Sushi Jin played with a bunch of different textures and flavors and it helped keep my palette refreshed and excited! My absolute favorite was the scallop croquette with the tartare sauce. The only cons is this is a very tiny restaurant, so the tables beside you are close enough that it's a little awkward to focus on your own conversation. It was around $150 per person for the omakase, and I would love to come back for another special occasion.

Dinner for 2. - Ambiance (4*) Minimalist to the extreme. Unassuming from the outside. Unassuming on the inside. But, the all wood decor actually is quite nice. We appreciated the casual ambiance. It let us focus on the food. - Service (5*) Excellent service from our waitress. Friendly, informative, un-intrusive. White glove service without any of the haughtiness. - Omakase, $155 (5*) Sushi was fresh, tasty, dressed perfectly and on occasion memorable. My favorite was the Engawa. An amazing texture. The chawanmushi with crab butter was divine. And I loved that the omakase finished with soup! - Uni Tasting, 4 types, $61 (5*) Hokkaido, Santa Barbara, Bafun Ensui, Canada. All tasty. The presentation was excellent. Loved the little mother-of-pearl spoon. - Hochija Panna Cotta, $12.50 (5*) What a finish! The toasted tea flavor was in every bite. Not too powerful, but ever present. Slight crunch from the granola. Mmm yum! - Value (4*) $155 for 14 great courses is pretty good, I think. We were full by the time we left. Just be aware if you add extras (sake flight, uni tasting, a-la-carte), the bill will add up quickly ($690 in our case). - Final Word Normally, when I get to go out with my wife, I love going somewhere where she puts on something super sexy, but Sushi Jin was a nice change of pace. Cute little casual spot with amazing sushi. Certainly a spot worth returning to.

My husband and I have been to Sushi Jin a couple of times and consider it to be the best sushi we've ever had. You can tell there is care put into each piece of nigiri to bring out incredible flavor profiles. Our servers have always been kind, attentive and knowledgeable. Our favorite nigiri this time was the O'toro but the kegani was a close second. We love the ambiance with the low lighting and wooden interior. Thank you as always to the Sushi Jin team for an amazing experience. We will definitely be back soon!

Located in a plaza, parking was relatively easy. Restaurant was a bit hard to spot at night since Maps kept leading us to the pet hospital but the restaurant is located right next to it. Friendly and attentive service from wait-staff and chef. We were seated right at our reservation time. We opted for the 14-course omakase and uni flight. Both a delight and would highly recommend. Hojicha panna cotta was great. Probably one of the better omakase places I've had in a while. No complaints here.

Ambiance Combination of a chef's counter with traditional tables. It's a chill, low-key vibe that fet. Food The cooking is solid across the board. Nothing feels flashy or risky, but nothing is off either. It's the kind of place that delivers dependable technique and clean flavors, making for a very reassuring dinner. It's not aiming for fireworks, but it earns its keep with consistency. Favorites Crab chawanmushi and chutoro with cured egg yolk are standout picks. The crab chawanmushi is silky and delicate, with a gentle sweetness from the crab. The chutoro is luxuriously fatty, and the cured egg yolk adds a rich, savory umami lift that ties the bite together nicely. Overall A reliable choice for a relaxed sushi night. If you're after solid flavors, good technique, and a comfortable atmosphere, Sushi Jin won't disappoint. It's particularly worth a visit for the crab chawanmushi and the chutoro with cured egg yolk. Great for a casual date or a low-pressure dinner with friends.

Bow down to the master omakase of South Bay. Wow wow wow! My mind is blown at the exquisite quality of every dish that went into my mouth. The omakase meal was so amazing that it left such an impression in my heart. Truly the best dining experience ever. it felt like I was one of the judges on top chef! Every dish we kept saying it was our most favorite lol. It just kept progressively getting better and better. The inside is not too big. About 10 seats at the bar. And probably like 4-5 surrounding tables. We loved the uni flight! It is so worth the additional add on. As far as the premium vs regular sake flight, I think either of them will be a nice addition but if you don't drink then obviously don't get it lol. I fell in love with master sushi Jin. I think the bar is set pretty high. And I will most definitely be back for more!

Ask the Community - Sushi Jin

We had omakase 2 months ago. We want to go again. How often do they change omakase menu?

They change the omakase menu about every 3 months, as each season changes.

Does this place offer fresh wasabi?

Nothing came with a blob of wasabi - if it's supposed to have wasabi, there is some integrated into the presentation. Whether it was fresh or not, I don't know but whatever the flavors were, they were perfect!

Is this a Japanese own restaurant? Are the chefs Japanese? Thx

Not sure but the owner is Korean. The owner Jin recently took his chefs and staff to Japan for 2 weeks earlier this year.

    Is there a corkage fee?

    Corkage fee is $30.

Does all party have to opt in for the omakase set?

No, anyone in the group can order a la carte as well. In fact, no one even has to do omakase if no one wants to.

    Is this place child friendly?

I don't think they will turn you away, but unless your kids have highly sophisticated palettes I wouldn't bother. We saw a couple with a new baby in a carrier which was fine. I personally wouldn't waste the experience on my kids until they're old… Read more

How long is the omakase meal?

We were there recently and learned that there are two seatings per night, for 2 hours each at 5:30pm and 7:30pm.

How do we get a reservation?? *cry face*

Check regularly. I looked last night (5/27/22) just before they opened and they had a seating left at 7:30pm.

Is it okay to bring my own bottle of sake or wine? Do they charge a corkage fee?

Yes, as long as they don't sell it at their restaurant. It is $45 per 720ml bottle, I believe.

Is there a vegetarian omakase option?

Don't think so. It's set menu

    How much per person?

    $125 per person

This place is a bit of a love-hate relationship for me, and it's hard to explain. Things started off pretty smoothly. Based on reviews, I was excited to see that they offer both good sushi and ramen--and that part is true. The sushi is really good and solid overall: fresh fish, flavorful roll combinations, and well-balanced rice/ingredient ratios. The ramen is decent. The broth is flavorful, though the chashu doesn't quite compare to what you'd get at a dedicated ramen shop. Still, it's nice to have ramen as an option, especially when dining with a group. That said, service took longer than expected, especially considering ramen is usually quick to prepare. To their credit, they noticed the delay and offered us complimentary edamame, which we appreciated. About 45 minutes in, the restaurant started filling up fast. We were almost finished but decided to order sweet shrimp nigiri, something we always try when it's available. Unfortunately, that's where things went downhill. Once the crowd came in, it became very difficult to get the staff's attention due to the influx of both dine-in and online orders. At least three other tables around us were also missing items or had orders forgotten--just like us. We placed our nigiri order at 5:34 p.m. and didn't receive the two pieces until nearly 7:00 p.m. We didn't even realize how long we had waited until we were leaving. Ironically, once we mentioned it to an employee, the order came out in less than five minutes. The explanation given to multiple tables was that there were too many online orders and they couldn't stop them (??) To me, this felt more like a communication and prioritization issue. Dine-in customers shouldn't be waiting 45 minutes for two pieces of nigiri or a single maki roll. They did offer us 10% off the bill, but it didn't fully make up for the frustrating experience. The food itself is undeniably good, and this place has a lot of potential. However, I wouldn't gamble my time here again unless the service issues are addressed. I really hope they find a better system, because the quality of the food deserves it.
