The pork donburi was delicate in flavour and hit the spot. Wish the egg wasn't icy cold. The fried stickers were a bit too fried. The karaage was PERFECT and so was the takoyaki. They were pretty big compared to elsewhere, definitely a highlight. Tonkotsu ramen - 2.5/5, the egg is good with a jammy yolk, and the veggies are typically nice to have. Unfortunately, the pork did not do it for me. It was very similar to the type of pork that people use to boil soup with, which I have no problem with normally. It just wasn't what I was expecting, as most ramen places have different cuts of meat. The broth was also very very mild, and seemed quite oily. Everyone else seemed to really enjoy their dishes, so that was good. They had some items that seem good, like the clam ramen. read more

It was quite refreshing! We were served menus and water immediately. Then our food arrived. The curry rice dish, the dish itself is literally from the early 90s cheap Chinese type of dishware. I thought to myself is this a Chinese fusion place? The curry was more thin liquid consistency than the normal sludge I've eaten at other Japanese places. Dug in anyway, it didn't have that teeny spice kick at the end. It was just a bland curry rice dish...and then the ramen, ah another sign of Chinese fusion? Most ramen places serve their cha shu a mere two or three slice. Here you get very tender chunks of meat. The tenderness was great and seems like a good value but the soup was so bland. Sigh. I wanted to like this place but unfortunately not a repeat. And the squid legs looked like they were fried in old oil. It's more burnt looking than the pic here. read more

I only tried their Veggie Miso Ramen which left a LOT to be desired. Their choice of tofu (silken mind you) meant that it absorbed none of the broth. The broth itself was also pretty bland -- they could've amped up the amount of miso by 2x so it didn't taste like water with a bit of seasoning. The egg was good, though. Maybe I should've tried their seafood ramen instead, but this is such a basic ramen and they didn't do it well. Otherwise, service was good, though very busy on a Saturday night. Very enjoyable meal. I appreciated that they were very intentional with their decisions concerning their food items. The environment and service was also very good. The location is top notch as it is in the middle of the Sunnyvale Downtown. Their ramen recipe and topping selections were high quality but it was not my personal favorite as the shredded chunks of pork belly(?) and spinach was not my preferred format of toppings. The karage was high quality but I think I would have preferred a smaller format with more pieces. Since I enjoyed their take on ramen, even though it is not my preferred -- I believe it is an opinion but the quality and value is good so I gave it a high rating because it is worth trying. Food was great, service was fast and efficient. The only concern was the flooring and walls. In the bathroom, there were some black spots on the ceiling. The floorboards were chipped off and can become a trip hazard. The backyard of the restaurant looked like a small junkyard. The restaurant was not too noisy but finding parking was a bit tricky due to a nearby farmer's market or event. Our server was friendly and let us know they had run out of clams. Had I known this I would've boiled eggs at home Kakuni had a nice mild flavor & not overbearing. It also wasn't super dry. It also came with a lot of it! My biggest issue is that it did not come with a lot of broth, it's almost more of a dry ramen which I'm not a fan of. The broth is my favorite part. It was delicious though, just make sure you order extra broth if you want a soupier ramen. It was hard to properly cook the noodles with so little broth. It also kept my mushrooms a bit crunchy & they didn't absorb the flavor of the broth The flavor was great & very good for the price. It is a nice restaurant that also serves alcohol. We ordered clam ramen and tonkotsu ramen. It is a generous portion even though we see it, It looks kind of a small portion. The noodle is cooked nicely and has chewy texture. It comes with charsiu, a whole egg, and an ear mushroom. I like it. The broth is rich. I wish I could finish the whole broth, but it is too rich for me. The spicy one is good, and it is not that spicy for me. The seafood one was light and good. Overall, it was a nice dinner. This was the first and last time we go to this facility. Spotted this place when in downtown SV for lunch last month and decided t would be our next place for our next monthly meeting. Went for lunch today with a few coworkers. While the service was great and the server was attentive, towards the end of our meal we spotted a rat/rodent run out of the kitchen and down the hallway to the back entrance/exit of the restaurant. We noticed one of the cooks motioning to the server that they (the cooks) chased it out of the kitchen and kept looking down the hallway, probably to make sure it did not come back in. Would you spend $52.76 for two bowls of ramen? And no chashu pork available? Came here at 5pm on a Monday, and the place was deserted. Place is clean with minimal ambiance, big windows overlooking a deserted outdoor street, and a black ceiling. Wife and I could both do without the Japanese hip hop songs squealing out of the overhead speaker. Wife's $19.50 Seafood ramen was a relatively thin seafood and pork-based broth with 9 tasteless tiny bay scallops, 6 clams, and 1 tasteless shrimp mixed in with noodles and spinach. Not a whole lot of flavor from the seafood, but the noodles were excellent, and the broth hearty but not creamy nor too salty. Would not order again. My $22 Specialty deluxe ramen came likewise with a 1 shrimp, 9 baby scallops, none of which had much flavor, and 6 clams, along with two chunks of absolutely delicious Kakuni pork in a creamy rich Tonkotsu broth, and 2/3 of an egg cooked almost hard boiled, just the way I like it, instead of soft and runny. Noodles cooked perfectly and tasty. Didn't see any chashu pork as listed in the menu description. Probably would try the $15.50 Kakuni Tonkotsu ramen next time, as for the past several months they "whited" out the Tonkatsu ramen with chashu on the menu, and a sign said no vegetable ramen today. Wife liked the ramen better at Orenchi, but is wary of potentially too salty dishes like the $14.50 black Miso ramen. We sat as far away from the front door as possible. Wife wore gloves to keep her hands from freezing. Not a time to dine outside with your dog. Windy, temperatures dropping rapidly from the low 50s. Nobody was dining outside at any of the dozen restaurants on closed off Murphy Street. One lady came in with open toed sandals, braving frostbite to eat here! read more

I'm always a fan to try new ramen places and this one didn't disappoint. We came here on a friday afternoon at like 6pm right before dinner rush and we were seated quickly. Our server was very friendly and attentive. I got the tongkotsu ramen with the habanero spicy and it was really flavorful and definitely spicy! I'm a fan of spicy food and it had a real kick. If you want something that isn't as hot, the regular spicy level is tasty as well. We also got the personal size of the chicken karaage and regular takoyaki. I like how they have a "personal" size especially if you want to taste more appetizers, but don't want to fully commit to a full appetizer size and be overwhelmed by the food. read more

This place definitely changed owners or chefs since Covid. Everything about the soup was subpar. From the broth to the meat. Instead of chasu they use cheap pork and were too sweet. Pretty good spot for ramen! We were in downtown Sunnyvale and wanted to find a quick place to eat so we stopped by for ramen. We got the Kakuni Tonkotsu, Spicy Miso and Clam ramens between us and all 3 were super good. I like the house tonkotsu broth which was super creamy but not too heavy. They were out of chashu so we got pork shoulder in both of the meat ramens (interesting because the menu says chashu / pork belly but I guess they don't have either). The clam ramen was my favorite as the broth was perfect and clean and made for a super umami base without any oiliness. We also ordered Yaki Onigiri which is a grilled rice ball to start. Unfortunately this was the only disappointing part of our meal. The rice ball didn't have much filling (there was barely any mentaiko) and the outside wasn't crispy like the other places I've eaten this at. I'm mad it took me this long to discover this place! I always love finding new places on Murphy Ave since it's such a nice area to go to. Coming inside we were greeted by the staff and sat right away. They had great energy when we came in and I already know my experience would be great. I have ordered the deluxe ramen (MY FAVORITE!!) and I've also ordered the Kakuni Tonkatsu ramen. (I've obviously been back more than once haha). Overall the ramen is so flavorful! The meat is so tender and all of toppings included are amazing. Now let me tell you why the deluxe ramen is my favorite. First of all, it's HUGE and has a great mix of meat and seafood. You can definitely share with two people, but I ate this by myself. I was starving that day. It has so much flavor and there's just so much to eat, I felt like it was never ending.
