I so wanted to give them 3 stars; they were so nice. But alas, the actual food was SO BAD! My wife's steak was as hard as their brownies, the tortilla and the taco salad shell were not very fresh (the tortilla was a bit hard, and the shell was a bit soft.) The rolls were the best part by far, but they weren't served with butter, they were served with a very sweet cinnamon butter. The worst part is that the entire salad bar and desert bar, (and self serve sodas) looked like a disaster area. I know we were there a little later at night (830ish), but you would have thought they just wrapped up with a fourth grade field trip. Yes, seriously messy. Ok now for the good part. We. casually mentioned that my wife's steak wasn't very good. The server asked what he could do to make it better, and we told him it wouldn't be necessary to do anything for us, and that we weren't upset at all, just underwhelmed. Within five minutes the manager was at our table with cash in hand, refunding my wife's meal, and giving us ten extra gift certificate bucks for next time. We thanked him for his gesture and that was that. Bottom line: service was three to three and a half stars, good customer relations was five stars, but food was unfortunately one or one and a half stars. I'm the end the food just wasn't good, and as nice as they were it still doesn't help with that. I might go back and try them one more time with my "free bucks", but it won't be soon. read more

My wife and I had an enjoyable dinner at the Layton Sizzler this evening. She had the steak and lobster. I had the ribeye and salad bar. The steaks were good and my wife said the lobster was very good. The place was clean and the salad bar was well stocked. Our server was very attentive. Husband ordered steak and fries, my son got chicken tenders, and I got the salad bar. Salad bar was okay, the avacados and some fruit we're going rotten though. After waiting 30 minutes for the two meals, we cut into it and both were raw. We sent them back and the manager promised that it would be cooked more and returned with fresh fries and mushrooms. After another 20 minutes of waiting for a food, the steak was still raw, and was returned with a cold baked potato and no mushrooms, and my sons fries were cold as well. Our waitress was horrible. She came to our table twice in the hour we were there. And as we were leaving we saw her rush to our table to collect the tips. To her surprise she found a nice note from us, in place of her tips. And she gave us a death look. Needless to say, I don't like food poisoning or crappy servers. We will NOT be going back. As I understand that people get busy, this was a very slow night. There weren't very many people, so these kind of mistakes should NOT have happened. This is the second time this year that we HABE had to send back undercoooked food back to the cooks. It's sizzler. It definitely good place to eat if you want a steak meal you could afford. The all you can eat buffet is decent, I really don't have any complaint. The fried chicken, spaghetti, clam chowder, and the salad bar was good. I also had order the steak with rice pilaf and fries. The steak was cooked properly, I definitely enjoyed it. The rice pilaf was good and soft. But the fries tasted a little dry and stale. It could have been better. The service was friendly but could have been better by getting the empty plates out of the way or asking for refills on the drinks. Eventually, they did, after I kept asking to take the plates and refill of drink. Overall, it was good with even betters. read more

I hadn't been to a Sizzler in years. I was dragged, kicking & screaming (or at least sulking) to the Sizzler on 4th South in SLC about 6 months ago and it was GOOD! Not great, but got a good steak & salad bar for about $12. We don't eat out a lot and good food for a good price is a winner so we have been to the Layton restaurant about 3 times since "re-discovering" Sizzler and each time was ok but the food wasn't as good as SLC. We went in last Thursday to the Layton restaurant and the food was dreadful and they have changed their pricing so you have to pay more. I guess I'm done with the Layton Sizzler and will have to (maybe) try the SLC restaurant and see if there is any chance of me ever going to a Sizzler again. read more

Worst service I have ever had. Wasn't busy for lunch. People who arrived after me were served and about to leave. I had still not been served. The other members of my party were served and finished I still had no food and only a promise that the manager would bring out my food. I finally left without any lunch. To treat yourself and not break the bank is the key and although a slightly pricy steak or salad bar it's definitely well worth it. The service and the proportions are great! Staff friendly even though super busy on all you can eat shrimp day! Salad bar well stocked. Took potatoe home so had more room for shrimp! Steak was a tad dry but I do order it cooked completely through-no pink. A steak is ideal when pan seared on outside & slow cooked on inside, which is not ideal for a busy restaurant trying to feed the masses. I'm sorry to have to agree with the previous poster: this franchise location, while staffed with friendly, helpful people, has flat-out dreadful food. How wrong can you with with a steak, baked potato and salad? Pretty far wrong. My steak was so tough that both cutting and chewing took effort. The baked potato was crumbly and dry--and the "butter" product served on the side resembles butter only in the color. Some kind of weird whipped oil product, it refused to melt. Sticking closely to the salad bar, I still had to contend with soggy lettuce, dried-out black olives, wilted broccoli and nearly-green tomatoes. Worst of all? The delicious signature Sizzler toast was nowhere in evidence. Instead, I was offered bread rolls so stale on top that they couldn't be broken to be spread with the fake "cinnamon butter" in the basket. I wish I could give a better account of this meal, but whatever cost-cutting is going on in the kitchen is right there on the plate. The single "pro" about my meal? The soft-serve ice cream made a decent little sundae to round out the dinner. Not at all worth the price. read more

Cafeteria food at Fine Dining prices. My wife got the Riblet/Chicken Tender Dippers, but was served chicken tots from the children's menu. The Riblets were dried little pieces of bone with fat hanging from them. I had the Classic steak, which tasted OK, but it was approximately room temperature when it arrived at the table. The presentation was horrible; one little steak on a plate with a small bowl of mashed potatoes. Not even a pennies-worth of garnish. The waiter was friendly enough, but he forgot our whole two dinner rolls twice. We were half-through with the cold and boring meal before these biscuits made an appearance. My husband and I love this Sizzler location. (We are suckers for steak and endless shrimp). The staff is always very polite and prompt. They have the drink station open to guests so you can refill it on your own or your server will also offer to do it for you. There were some people complaining about this in the other reviews... But I think it's convenient (because when you are thirsty with an empty glass who wants to wait for someone else to notice and fill it up? Ain't nobody got time for that!) We waited a long time for our food because the chicken was frozen and they had to thaw it and cook it . Sorely disappointed. Used to love Sizzler. Hadn't been down this way in a while​ and decided to give it a try. First off, no one at the register and this was just after noon. They call a young man from the back who looks like he just got out of bed. I order a ground steak, medium with fries and the salad bar. He tells me $23.00 I say, "For a ground steak?" Yep. I pay and think never again. The salad​ bar is still great. My food finally comes, the waitress just drops it off and runs never to be seen again. Turns out my ground steak is a sirloin cooked to leather like. I mean there was no life left in this baby and it was half fat. I sat there eating my overcooked​ fries for some time and finally a Manager comes by with a smile and asks how everything is ... so I tell her. She informs me they don't have a ground steak on the menu. Perhaps the sleepy cashier should get another memo? We visit this location about 2 or 3 times a month. The service has always been awesome, from cashiers (Crystal is ALWAYS pleasant and makes great suggestions) to the servers (Shaylee and Monica are our personal favorites) to the Mgmt staff who always come around to make sure everything is good and that we are having a good experience. I would take any friend or family member there for dinner with no fear that they would have a bad experience. We always get steaks and salad bar, sometimes shrimp as well. Everything is always cooked the way we order it (or immediately fixed if there is an issue) and delicious. The salad bar and the hot bar have always been well stocked and fresh. We stopped in to Sizzler, today for Father's Day dinner. We had already been to this location several times. We all like the salad bar add on. I love that there is always fresh fruit available. The steaks are always good, as are the shrimp. So while I do tend to think of Sizzler as the Denny's of steakhouses, obviously we have always been satisfied enough to return. I never felt compelled to write a review for them until today, though. I ordered the salmon with salad bar add on. My salmon came out under cooked. The manager was very gracious about it. She got me a new plate in a timely manner, ensured it was done, asked if I wanted any shrimp while I waited (I didn't but still a nice gesture), and comped my order. I understand things like this can happen, especially on a busy holiday. What makes or breaks it is how the restaurant handles the mistake when it happens. They did everything just right, and I felt even went above and beyond by offering the shrimp. Great customer service! We will still continue to come here. read more

The good things first- raspberry lemonade was perfect. I loved the real raspberries in my glass. The garlic toast was nicely toasted, but very buttery. Our waiter, Pyper, was extremely attentive, making sure we were satisfied with our meal, and seeing if we wanted dessert. My husband's stake was tender and had a nice flavor. Not so good- two shrimp skewers were tender, but definitely not grilled. They had only a sprinkle of paprika for color. The rice pilaf was cooked just right but seemed to be plain. I ate the barely cooked broccoli, but was glad for the melted butter to drizzle over it because it was only slightly warm. My husband had the trio, and the chicken with ham and cheese on top needed something to make it look appetizing! It looked as if it had been walked past a warmer, not melted. Over all, the restaurant was clean and we didn't leave hungry, but it could have been a better experience. I didn't bring a coupon, but had seen one another lady had in the lobby. Worse customer service ever. The General Manager is by far the most rude person I have ever met. He treated us like crap. He was out of line with me and my husband on 2 separate occasions. The food has always been pretty good and the other staff members are awesome, but this General Manager should not work with people he is horrible at it. I have never been to a sizzler ever , so I wanted to try it. I was really excited. My husband and I went there last night and we were so disappointed. We don't go out on dinner dates often and I am a waitress so I love to get waited on. We walked in and the floors had napkins and garbage EVERYWHERE. It was nasty. Our waiter was very nice although he didn't seem like he was doing the best he could do. I understand it's the end of the day but I want to be treated like I'm your first table of the day, NOT the last. Don't half butt your job. My husband ordered his steak med rare and he received it raw! He asked to get it just a little more cooked and it was brought back well well well well well done. He could hardly chew it. There were hardly any tables in the restaurant and ALL the cooks and my waiter were just playing around in the kitchen. Dancing, singing, you know just playing. I understand having fun on your job but this was just excessive. We didn't really get checked on and we had to wait a year for our box. I can promise we will never return to sizzler. I went to this restaurant in Layton Utah today for lunch and I brought the States Governor with me and we both walked out very disappointed! We ordered the steak and chicken special they had and that was the wrong choice. First we noticed that there were not very many people there for being a lunch hour and that should have been our red flag! I only seen 2 servers and one bus boy in the whole building and when I went to get a pepsi, the machine itself was dirty and had hard water scale build up on the exterior which made me then wonder how clean the ice machine was inside. We went to our table and the server brought us silver ware that We couldnt help but notice that there were large water spots on everything. When our food arrived the chicken was a deep fried patti with a very thin slice of ham and then the sauce that comes with it.The steak was old and dry, The toast was thin sliced and burnt and I use to really like the toast but not any more.For many years I came to this restaurant and the standards of food and quality were there and the management and ownership was superb, but something has happened because it isnt that way anymore so all I can say is beware and spend your money at a different steakhouse but dont waste it at the Sizzler. The owners dont care. To allow the quality and cleanliness of the place to go down so much was shocking. I know we dont care to eat there anymore when we are in Layton, Utah! read more

Everything said in the previous reviews are unfortunately completely true. I had gone here also coming back after several years of actually being to a Sizzler and after this I will not be back again. It is a complete mystery to me how a steak and mashed potatoes can be managed to be made horrible but here they manage it. Everything was tasteless at best and just awful most of the time. The steak I had was like ground beef and was tasteless. The gravy on the mashed potatoes was repulsive. The condition of the salad bar and quality of its contents were awful. I write this review to prevent other unsuspecting guests from wasting their money here. I'm not sure is all Sizzler's are like this now but I not going to venture to find out after this experience.
