This is a small "mom and pop" restaurant that's really friendly and accommodating. We had a group of 12 that we called ahead for. And a good thing we did because they had to call in help because they weren't staffed for that. The food was great. Having been to Hawaii countless times, it sounded like a good idea. I like Hawaiian food on occasion. Plus it was located down the street from our Airbnb. I wouldn't necessarily drive way out of my way for it, but I enjoyed the food. I loved my experience at Cuzins kitchen today. I was wanting to support Maui, and saw that Cuzins Kitchen was donating a % of all money made in the month of August to them. I loved that. When we got in, we were greeted kindly and was told to sit where we wanted. They had just turned on the movie Frozen, and as a mom I loved that! The kids sat still while they waited for their food. The food was made quick and it was absolutely delicious. The chicken has an amazing flavor, and there was a ton of it! I was impressed with how much food you got with your meal. The photo doesn't do the flavor justice, but this is what was left over from 2 regular plates of chicken (and we big dudes who can eat). So portions are PLENTIFUL! Char on the chicken was wonderful and chicken was juicy and cooked well. Sauce wasn't overly sweet and compliments the chicken very well. Only not 5 stars because only available water was by bottle and our food for dine in still came in styrofoam containers. Also, the chicken came whole and we had to cut ourselves. Not a big deal other than cutting with plastic ware on styrofoam isn't the greatest experience. Ambiance was fine. Nothing to write home about, but I was comfortable and felt like the place was clean. We were the only ones in the restaurant for some reason. This place should be packed! We ordered takeout for the first time from Cuzins, and we were very happy with our order. Skip the other Name Brand who can never get our order right and come here. The Katsu chicken is crispy and tasty, I could drink the sauce it's amazing. Kalua pork with the steam cabbage will now be our favorite. Mac salad was creamy and oh so good. Always in such of authentic Hawaiian food and so happy I discovered Cuzins. My husband said it looks like what we have at our favorite deli in Maui. I've been here a couple times. I love supporting local businesses and would rather support local than all the franchised restaurants especially with comfort food. The service is always very hospitable and always very kind. I love me a loco moco, but this one was just straight burnt. I love a little char, but this was not edible to me. Took a couple bites because I just hate wasting food. The flavor was bland and I thought the gravy could make up for it with the egg, but just couldn't be saved. What a great little find in Layton! Having taken a number of Hawaiian vacations you tend to find the best little out of the way places to eat. Cuzins Kitchen is exactly the kind of place we would find in Oahu, homemade Hawaiian food! I had the Loco Moco and it was amazing with char grilled patty and perfectly cooked eggs. The best Hawaiian I've had in Utah, the three of us that went tried their three different types of Moco (Katsu, Kalua, and Original Loco Moco). We split it amongst the three of us and the Kalua and Hamburg steak were definitely the best from the three, katsu was good too. Chicken Katsu was crispy and moist on the inside and the Teri beef was also delicious. The katsu sauce was super flavorful and absolutely delicious. Their Mac salad is wonderful. I usually don't eat the Mac salad and give it to my wife but this Mac was so good that not only did I eat all I had but we ended up ordering another side of it. Stumbled into Cuzins a few weeks back when I did not feel like cooking dinner. Been in atleast once a week since. The food is awesome. It's what I imagine good home-cooked Hawaiian food would taste like: Tender, well (but not over) seasoned, with hearty portions. In the various visits, my family and I have tried much of the menu and can solidly recommend everything we have tried. Our personal favorites are the teriyaki beef (super tender), the chicken katsu (not dry and overcooked like other places), loco moco (big 'ol homemade patties), and the fried rice (seriously, just pay for the fried rice on your plate). The owner and staff are super friendly and welcoming. In short, if you want quick, impersonal cafeteria Hawaiian BBQ, Cuzins is not for you.
