When I went into the salon at 10am, the Saturday before Easter, I thought it would be a long shot to get my hair done, but Fantasia welcomed me with open arms. I was pleased that she detangled my hair during my shampoo/condition and she was always respectful of "tenderheadedness". She sat me under the hood dryer and blow dried me and then pressed my hair flat to perfection and superbly bone straight like I like. A lot of heat, but I don't put much heat on my hair so I was ok with that. I would definitely go back here frequently if I made more money, but as a press and trim cost me $105, I definitely can't afford to go Idalia's often. Other thoughts: Really nice salon, well kept and clean Loyal customer base that looked like they have been with the owner a while The salon was celebrating their 20th anniversary so clearly they run a successful business Expensive (as mentioned) I loved everyone's hair who left Next time I go maybe I'll get my eyelashes done

As a 4c natural I don't trust just anyone with my hair but Karen was amazing and did a fantastic job cleaning up my mess! And she was so sweet. I have a lot of anxiety around salons because I've had so many negative experiences in the past but Karen made me feel good about my hair and was gentle. I couldn't believe how fast I was out of there too, I don't even think it took 40 minutes from start to finish. Their COVID safety procedures are excellent too, I was taken to wash my hands as soon as I arrived, the stations were well distanced, there was constant sanitizing going on and it was spotless. I felt very safe. The other staff were all nice too. If you're on the fence especially as a kinky/curly natural, don't hesitate to go. They really do take care of everyone's hair. I also very much appreciated on their website when registering, non-binary is a gender option. It's little things like that which make a place feel welcoming.

I explained to her what I wanted, but was a little overwhelmed with the color once it was finished. I figured it was just a shock since it was the first time I bleached my hair. When I got home, I realized that it wasn't what I wanted, so I called the salon to see if I could come in the following day. Judith saw me first thing, and found a color that I would be more comfortable with. I was very happy with the results, and wasn't charged for the second service. Chokmah has such a great vibe, and you can tell the owners really care about the customer's experience. I will definitely stop by again. Thank you Judith for all of your wonderful services!

Mary mentioned that she used to own a salon, and after this experience, I understand why she no longer does. The color is completely off, the highlights are uneven, and the overall result is just terrible. I have thin hair, and the haircut with multiple layers made everything worse-- and throughout the process I was literally being hit in the face with my own wet hair as she cut. It felt chaotic and unprofessional. The result was such a disaster that I had to go to another salon and pay a significant amount to fix it. The hairstylist there was shocked and kept repeating that some people simply should not be doing hair. I spent an entire week tying my hair up just to hide how bad it looked. To make matters worse, the payment experience was incredibly uncomfortable. I paid her immediately via Zelle and even tipped her in cash. Because the transfer wasn't instant (we have different banks), she became upset and made me stay while I called my bank to prove that I had paid. It was humiliating and unnecessary. Afterward, I sent her photos to show how disastrous the result was, and her only response was to tell me to book another appointment. There is no way I would trust her to fix this. I asked for a refund, which I now realize I likely won't receive after seeing other similar reviews. This was an extremely disappointing and stressful experience. I strongly recommend going elsewhere.
