Brought my young daughter to get a haircut and a blow dry, and I was overjoyed with the service from Rosemarie. My kiddos long curly hair was perfectly cut and blown out. Not only was Rosemarie super sweet and bubbly with her, she really also made my daughter feel special. They were chatting and giggling away. Do not know if I will return to this company. Would be a shame tho because I was coming here for years. But recently I don't like how they tried to treat me as if I do not know any better. I had my usual service which is a wash and go. I haven't been since last November however my last 2 vistis I had a discount. Today at checkout I was told the price would be $55 before tax. I was shocked to hear this as I just visited last year and the price for a wash and go was $40 before tax. I asked when did the price change and they told me it was only cheap because I had a discount my last two visits. I felt upset I was being treated like if I didn't know my information or know for a fact that was not true. Yes I did receive discounts my last two wash and go however I have been coming to salon 718 for years and never had any discounts prior to the last two for wash and go and it was always $40 before tax. I even had the receipts saved showing this. I even reached out to the manager and she ignored me after I sent her evidence it really was $40. UPDATE: They continue to treat me as if I don't know anything. The response of what they responded to me simply isn't true. My stylist that I had yesterday was not a level 3. She was a level 1. Also like I said i have been coming here for more than a year going to different stylist at each different levels varying from level 1- level 3 and the price for a wash and go was always the same no matter the level. I began with a consult and the advice I received from Diamond was an 11/10. My extensions were thick and voluminous and I wasn't sure if the style I wanted was achievable. The texture of my hair is really thick and curly, but they took time and handled my hair with love and care. I was very excited to come here to get my hair dyed after seeing the reviews. But now I know to be specific on who should do it. I guess there was a miscommunication with my hairstylist, Juan, and my hair was nothing like I wanted even with a previous consultation and showing pictures of it. I did go back, and Juan did try to fix my hair the same day (color was completely off - I wanted teal and I got lime green). I also got the back dyed to my original color as placement was absolutely awful. As a hairstylist, I would assume they would know what they're doing. I can't see the back of my hair during the process. I had asked for the color to show on my hair because I didn't want it just underneath. But the placement Juan used was so bad. Even now, the color thats under my hair isn't even. I specifically asked for it to be blended in and to look more natural and it was not that. Juan said would use a comb-back method and did not do so. I also showed pictures of what I wanted... and its nothing like it. I don't recommend going to Juan for hair color. People seemed very happy with his haircuts. However, I'm very upset with my hair. In addition, I would assume drying my hair properly and styling it is included. I was so excited to come here since I live very close. I got a curly haircut and it was nice-- my hair looked good even if it was very minimal. I feel like I didn't get as much shape or layers as I wanted. That being said-- for a $150 dollar curly haircut + tip, I was surprised when they sent me home with still half wet hair on a super cold day. Very unprofessional. I also didn't love that the price didn't include a deep treatment-- most curly hair salons at this price point do. For the price, I felt underwhelmed even if my hair looked good at the end. I've had the pleasure of getting my hair done at the 718 Salon on Myrtle Avenue three times ever since I moved to Bk in 2021 and every time Liv has slayed my hair. I've been natural all my life and in 2019 suffered from hair damage due to the heat and whatever product used in my during a wash and set. As a result I had to cut most of my hair off and grow it all back so I was very skeptical about what salon I choose going forward for my hair especially since I wanted to dye it for the first time. Liv did not disappoint she spent time and care understanding what I wanted and the color I was going for. Each time she has been very patient with me and always gives my hair the care it needs. She educated me about what different color levels will do to my hair and how to still achieve the color I wanted. I also have also have received highlights from her as well and she provided the same care. She does a great job cutting my ends too. She cuts just that right amount that doesn't make you feel like it's all gone lol She always takes her time with doing the styles I want which is why every time I leave her chair feeling like a brand new person. I hadn't gotten a hair cut in a while and am pretty low maintenance. I asked for a trim with some layers and didn't realize at the time of my cut because my hair was wet and then blown out nicely but there were no layers added whatsoever. While the experience was nice and my hair felt great for the remainder of the day because of the products used in combination with the blowout, I ultimately didn't get what I asked for. I would be more OK with this if it weren't for the fact that I had just spent $80 on a minor trim and blowout and the advertised price when I made my appointment was $65 (with no mention of additional costs depending on length of hair, which is the only reason I can imagine I was charged more)... as I mentioned earlier, I hadn't gotten my hair cut in quite some time so I take partial blame for my lack of notice when it came to the layers, but being as I had asked for them from the start, not sure why they weren't included. read more

KAI IS A BALAYAGE VISIONARY! I committed to doing a fall makeover (as much as this current situation will safely allow) and I wanted to color my hair. My hair texture is like Yara Shahidi's (super curly, grows more out than it does down, prone to dryness), I'm medium/dark brunette with some red undertones, and a significant number of steely grays and some whites. I wanted to go ash blonde/cool toned and showed Kai some inspo photos and she was like yes, makes sense, I can see it, and went to work. It's been almost a couple weeks now and I am still beyyoooonnndd excited! I walked past a random salon the other day and someone ran out to compliment my hair. Kai recommended getting an Olaplex (just do it), so my hair still feels strong, soft, and shiny. Bleaching can make your curls limp, but I don't know what she did because they are still springy as hell. She genuinely wants to make you look good so you feel good and in these dumpster fire times, it was everything I could have asked for. I felt very safe in there, everyone working there got along (or at least acted like it!), great environment, all things considered in these times. Time and money very well spent. I regularly go to each of the salon locations and have had stylists at every salon work on my curly, African-American hair. This isn't about that. In this pandemic time I have seen only doctors's offices take the same level of care, procedure and protocol. Masks, temperature, sanitizer, distancing, air circulation, contactless paymen and a limited number of staff and clients were a welcome experience. I picked up a at home color kit that had everything I needed to color my roots at home and look like I came from the salon. The whole crew- Jen, Arie, and especially Juan- were absolutely amazing with our 3 year old daughter who hates getting her hair detangled, washed & styled because she had a LOT of super fine tight curls that tangle as soon as you finish detangling. We were back in town visiting from Texas and the salon agreed to help even though she is 3. What we all expected to take 1 1/2 to 2 hours max ended up taking 3 hours and there were 3 people working on her hair for part of it. She was inconsolable and Jen came up with a brilliant idea to let her spray water at the mirror and aim at each of us while detangling was happening. Then Arie kept coming over to comfort her while Juan was trying to wash her hair and both Jen and Juan kept detangling. And when she was moving her head so much it was hard to get the two part twists done, Juan was so patient, kind and gentle with our girl. We stayed well past when they should have closed but never once did anyone make us feel bad. We couldn't be more thankful for the kindness and care they gave us, especially this tired mama who needed the help. read more

I hate to give Salon 718 one star but it is what it is. The stylists are lovely: especially Dayonna and Cynthia. But when I discovered that Salon 718 charges its black customers more than its white customers for the same services, I was appalled. Clinton Hill/Fort Greene is a BLACK neighborhood! How dare Salon 718 charge white customers one price for a "blowout" and raise the price for black customers by calling it a "silky smooth blowout"?? This is totally disgusting and racist and discriminatory. I advise Salon 718 to relocate if they can't treat black customers fairly. read more

I came here from a Yelp Elite event that showcased the salon itself. The Yelp Elite event was great, and I was able to book a hair appointment very quickly that same week with Drew. The salon it located by Myrtle Avenue in Clinton Hill and is overall a great location. I had met Drew at the Yelp event and was excited to have an appointment with him. The salon is airy and spacious, and you automatically feel quite welcome when you walk in. Drew greeted me, gave me a gown and sat me down and asked me what I liked and disliked about my hair. He definitely took that into consideration when he gave me my haircut. I have to say, Drew did an AMAZING job with my hair. I was never really sure what to do with my hair other than I know it is a little repetitive and lacking volume, and Drew gave me his honest and professional opinion. After we spoke at some time, he miraculously fouind a good middle ground between things I thought was important and what his professional judgement on what looked good. And boy does it look good! I got rid of the length that I was willing to part with ( for someone who likes long hair) and got a lot of volume and texture that I really wanted. My hair looked great and very modern - something which I always wanted! I have to thank Drew for such an amazing job with my hair. I barely leave reviews but I feel this time is necessary. I visited 718-Myrtle salon yesterday to get a bob haircut for my birthday. Juan, a hairstylist level II, told me confidently that he knew how to do bob haircuts. Before he did my hair, I showed him some pictures of the bob cut I wanted. A bob is a rather complex haircut that uses various tools to create a 45-degree angle from the nape of the neck. Unfortunately, Juan did a terrible job. The haircut he performed looks extremely sloppy and uneven; very poorly done. I had to ask him to stop cutting my hair because it was obvious to me that he did not know the technique to do this type of haircut at all! Juan even had the nerve to recommend that I visit Hair & Co BKLYN to fix the haircut he did! I was not charged for the "haircut" for obvious reasons. I doubt this haircut can be fixed. I am very upset and disappointed with 718-Myrtle salon. Based on the "bob" haircut Juan attempted to do for me, I really doubt he ever graduated as a hairstylist.
