I wanted to go to a black owned business so with an online search I found this salon. I booked a pedicure appt with Ricci two days in advance. The salon is a one stop shop,you can get almost anything done. Everything was very clean, she used tools from the sterilization machine. I appreciated her not rushing and taking her time. She even helped me pick a fall color because I could not choose. Online the website shows that a basic pedicure is $20 but the shops signage shows $25. She honored the online price. This place is packed and for good reasoning. My cousin and I were lucky, we were able to get a 'walk in' by calling and a client had JUST cancelled. Although I wanted to go blonde, after a consultation with Keisha she was honest and told me I'd damage my hair considering I'd dyed it black and lifting it would ruin me. Some beauticians don't give a damn and still would've done it but she saved me from ruining 2 years of being natural for a color I would've gotten tired of in a month. I appreciate that. She was kind and understanding of my rants on how I wanted to be blonde although she wasn't letting it happen lol! Professional and caring. Instead she blessed my hair with a wash, deep condition, press and trim. My hair has never been shinier, fuller or softer. Much love to this place. The salon itself is pretty but however DO NOT Go to body by Anissa, she is a horrible stylist with a terrible attitude for no apparent reason. I had her install my full lace wig and I understand I got some dye on my lace which is my fault, however she plucked the hair out of my wig so much it looks like the wig is balding in the middle!! It overall wasn't a pleasant experience she isn't a welcoming stylist she just wants your money and does not care what happens to your real hair or extensions, she didn't even put any oil or grease in my scalp after braiding it, who does that! I even told her I needed some oil in it. Only reason this review has one star is because there is no option for -10!!!! read more

This Hair salon is so ratchet it's sad because it has all the potential. Everything is great until you start talking to the stylists inside. Everyone has skills but the professionalism is missing. BodybyAnissa aka Anissa yeah her skills are up to par, reasons why I booked her but her people skills and professionalism are lacking. No type of want to explain anything (mind you Im a brand new customer), has an attitude which I can be fine with but not all customers can tolerate stuff like that especially when they are paying you money for services. I brought my sister here for her birthday for Mani-Pedis. I was so pleased with the services we received - the mani pedi was excellent, and the staff was out of this world. Everyone was so friendly and nice, and chatty, which is such a plus. The decor is so cool and the place is CLEAN. I'd gone to Polish Bar Brooklyn before and this place totally trumps it. I came here yesterday to use my groupon that I purchased for 3 mani/pedi services. The nail tech was very sweet and did a good job. However, she was a little rough cutting the cuticles on my feet and hurt my big toe a little bit. Since I came close to closing, around 6:30 I was a bit worried that I would be rushed out but the nail tech took her time. However, I was not satisfied with the polish application for my manicure. I had to keep showing her edges that that she missed. Near the end of manicure she messed up my nail and instead of redoing the whole nail she tried to paint over it again. 6 coats of nail polish does not dry well and I knew my manicure would look awful by tomorrow (and it does). Before I even left the salon my two thumbs were smudged but it was too late to get them fixed- my nail tech had already put on her coat to get out the door so she just put an extra coat of clear polish. So it is the next day that I am writing this review. After waking up, all of my nails are either smudged or have bubbles in them. I hate feeling like I waste my money when my manicure does not turn out well. I am going to just deal with it and hope for a better result for my next two trips. Otherwise, I will just stick with my regular salon. I also got my underarms waxed here. It was fast and somewhat painless so they get props for that! One thing I love about the place is that everyone is sweet and at tentative. The hair stylist and the host kept asking me if I enjoyed the service - which I did. I did enjoy it but I am not happy with the result- my toes look great but my hands are a mess.. Next time I will come earlier and stay under the dryer longer until I am positive that my nails are fully dry. I will be back for an update review. read more

I came across this salon on groupon and thought I would give it a try. As I read the reviews on Yelp, I would agree that the establishment is clean and have great decor. During my medi and pedi sessions I found it very hard to relax. I don't know if this was normal but there were loud conversations between the hairstylists and their clients. Let's say it was loud enough to break the concentration of my nail tech. I must add that the conversations weren't arguments, just random topics on reality shows. On the plus side my nails tech gave great service. So I would be fair to say that this may not be typical. This seems like an atmosphere that you would want to go with a group of your girlfriends. Since I'm looking for something more quiet and soothing, I will have to pass and just take myself to a spa. read more

The worst, ever. Free was the stylist I would see at this salon. THE WORST. How about she was late for the very first appointment she ever made with me? Late by 25 minutes. I had to wait in the bar next door for her. How about she was late for the 2nd appointment? How about... Okay, I guess I should blame myself for continuing to make appointments with her but I felt her work was decent and the price at the time was fair, despite her horrendously unprofessional time management skills. The last straw came when I made an appointment with her and she just completely flaked on me. I was going to a themed Great Gatsby party and wanted a hairstyle from that era. We made the appointment a week before the event and she asked me to email her some inspiration pictures. The following day I did just that. She never responded. So, two days later I followed up with her via text. No response. I sent her another email. No response. The day before the appointment was supposed to happen, I sent her another text just to see if we were still on. NO RESPONSE. I wound up doing my own hair for the event because she had screwed me time wise way too many times in the past for me to chance it with her, especially when she didn't respond to MULTIPLE emails/text messages asking to confirm the appointment. I decided to NEVER go to her again. WHY, almost ONE YEAR TO THE DAY that she originally flaked on me, did Free call me?????? I didn't answer because I just KNEW she had the wrong number. But just in case, I sent her a text asking if she called me. She responded she did - she thought I was a different Jennifer that she knew. Though she had the wrong number I definitely took the time to let her know which Jennifer I was and how I felt about her COMPLETELY FLAKING OUT ON ME AS A CUSTOMER, A YEAR PRIOR. That unprofessional COWARD didn't even bother to respond back. Talk about ghetto and tacky! I am so glad I found a better, more professional salon to go to. I would never refer anyone to Free or to this salon. THE WORST! read more

Been here a couple of times for weave install. It's a nice place but I'm not going back here. I wear a weave while transitioning from relaxers to natural so caring for my natural hair is critical. I don't feel that they know much about hair care. Definitely always have to cut my own hair and do a better job at home. They are rough on your hair. No need to pull and rip it put of my head...I end up in the chair for seven hours anyway so what's the rush? I was burned and my hair was braided so tight it hurt for weeks. Each time I went, they were late. Once a half hour. Another time more than that; I took first appointment to avoid this but clearly it didn't matter. They will push their hair. It's good quality but the bunches are small and they don't give you the remaining hair. A racket I'm sure. Lastly, it's not a professional place. There's all these people strolling in and out, loitering and chatting with the stylists. The stylists are eating on the floor, talking on the phone while with a client. Given the price there's better options...like maybe someone's kitchen. read more

After yeard of looking for a good salon in NYC, I was offered to do a review of Shic by Soketah for my blog, That Girl At The Party! This is one of the rare times that I have become a regular customer after a review visit. Keisha is so wondrous with hair and a real sweetheart that she is now my regular go-to. After years of practically having to pack a bag and be away for the whole weekend to get my hair done in a loud unprofessional environment, it is such a relief to be able to book and go in without a lot of fuzz. The salon is nice, It's spacious with a nice and clean bathroom. I follow Anissa on Instagram and decided to book an appointment for a sew in with a closure. After reading the reviews about her on yelp I was hesitant about letting her do my hair but I decided to go and I must say I had a pleasant experience. Mia (Anissa's assistant) and Anissa were friendly and did a lovely job on my hair. I appreciate the fact that Anissa accepts appointments on Sunday and Monday. read more

I visited this salon for a mani/pedi walk in - the price seemed like a steal and now I know why... The environment is very loud, unprofessional, and not in the least bit relaxing. The woman at the front desk was not friendly and just told me to sit down without quoting a wait time (it ended up being 45 minutes). The nail technician had a professional demeanor, but did a very bad job on my mani/pedi. She apologized for the wait, which was nice, but the mani/pedi was way below par! The nail tech cut my toe with the cuticle scissors. but besides the small amount of bleeding, the polish turned out okay. During my manicure, she kept getting hairs in the polish or missing spots when painting. She then tried covering her mistakes by adding more polish, which made the manicure even worse. By that evening, I just had wrinkly and bubbly globs of paint on my nails. I'll definitely stick to my usual nail salon when in Brooklyn. Also, I did not see the nail tech take the tools she used on my from the sterilization machine - nor did she put the tools in that UV machine when she was finished. I saw her use the exact tools she used on me for her next client. Unsanitary and dangerous! A 45 minute wait for a crappy mani/pedi that was definitely NOT worth it! No wonder it was only $22! read more

I love this place! Honestly, this is one of the very few salons where everyone knows how to do hair! Not only do they specialize in weaves but also hair care. While you wait for your turn drinks & snacks are offered to the clients. The reason why I gave them 4 stars instead of five is because they use to do mani/pedis and have not found a replacement yet. If you need a NATURAL looking weave done, Sonia is your girl. The middle of my hair in the crown had broken off so I was concerned about not having enough hair to cover the tracks. I did not want a full weave, just tracks for volume. Sonia created a closure for the top. This was a good option because it did not further stress the thinning part. Perfect! I did not think about that My appointment was at 10 am. so I truly appreciated that she was already there and ready to go and that I did have to wait an additional 30 minutes for her to eat her breakfast. Body by Anissa is angry, and ratchet for no reason. She has the nastiest disposition I've ever experienced from a hair stylist or anyone rendering a service. She wears a ratty white-scalped turquoise wig and a bad attitude. Anissa smelled like a combination of haven't showered in a few days but I still layers on deocorant to cover up the smell and club smoke. Not only did it seem as if she was having a bad week-she just reeks of envy and bitterness. She was mean and stuck me in the eye "mistakenly" to the point where I had to ask her what her problem was. She immediately brushed it off and pretended to be nice, thereafter. I asked for a bob and she tried to convince me to do a layered look. I insisted on the bob, tho. She then proceded to cut my hair with no sort of knowledge of cutting, seemingly. I let her continue because I thought it was her process. Boy, was I in for a surprise when she took the cape off indicating she was finished. I thought it was a joke. She cut my hair and it was clearly chopped up and jagged, uneven on either side and a heavy newscaster 80s feel. It was as if she did it on purpose. She did! Some one else had to step in and finish my hair. I was in tears from anger. I wanted to rip her apart. She walked away with no apology. If you ever walk into this salon you are asking for it. If you ever end up in Anissa's chair wear your boxing gloves and be prepared for a possible scuffle, because she is the type. She's a monster. Stay away. read more

This salon is awful. Be prepared to wait a long time before having your service even if you have a scheduled appt time. The prices are cheap and now I know why. They don't know much about hair care. I went in for a wash and style and they didn't even let the conditioner sit on my hair. She literally put the conditioner on and then rinsed it right out. The stylist also didnt put any product on my hair when blow drying it out. This place might be ok if you have a weave, but definitely not for natural/relaxed hair. read more

Shic was recommended to me by a co-worker. I really liked her weave so I went to her stylist who is Sonia, and I've been going to the salon now for a few years. I'm definitely very happy with Sonia's work. She always remembers my preferences, takes her time and does a good job (even when she's backed up). Keisha has also done my hair when I wasn't able to get an appointment with Sonia and she did a really good job as well. While it is true you may spend a few hours there, it helps that everyone is very friendly and they don't rush and compromise your hair. The salon is clean, spacious and everyone is friendly. Sometimes on Saturdays they have Mimosas, which is a really nice treat. read more

One time in particular many years ago Keisha fixed a very bad install of mine after going to someone cheaper. Was in the neighborhood with a friend and we had to check out this new salon in the area...well, what a treat!!! This salon has it all!!! The staff is friendly and the decor is lush! I just got a mani and pedi, but was very pleased with the outcome, my nail polish didn't chip after a couple of days and I loved the variety in color selection. My friend got her hair styled and it looked fabulous!! The staff really goes out of there way to make you look and feel beautiful! While there I discovered that you can host a spa party right in the salon...make-up, hair, nails, massage....all under one roof, what more can a diva ask for!!! :-) I will definitely make this a regular part of my pampering sessions! read more

Horrible Job! I would never recommend the stylist Anissa aka bodybyanissa. I paid $420 for a wig with a frontal and my tracks are showing. Also she did a very bad dye on my expensive virgin hair. When you wet the hair, the dye color runs everywhere and on top of that the hair is extremely dried out. I paid $650 for this hair and she ruined it! She is very unprofessional and has a bad attitude. I went back to fix my wig and she wanted to charge me extra for the mistakes SHE MADE. On top of that, she has very poor communication. She will NEVER answer your phone calls or text messages. I am very unsatisfied with the service I received and I will never use this stylist again. Her quality of work along with her bad attitude is not worth the price she charges. I am in no way bashing this Salon. Sonia is a very nice and talented stylist, who was nice enough to fix my hair for me and ensure that I was happy with my hair. This salon has very talented stylists that do beautiful hairstyles, however Anissa is NOT of them. read more
