This is my first time heading to this salon after doing a decent amount of research. I've been checking their instagram, and I feel like I know the website pretty well by now. My 1st impression was good, open hours say 9am, I got there at 9:05am and there were already people nearly done with their hair. I was immediately addressed and helped the moment I walked in. The pictures online really don't do the salon Justice, the design is pretty and cohesive. You can tell they spared little expense when picking out chairs and decoration. One of my favorites was the circle lights above nearly each seat, and the giant double sided mirrors. The person who helped me, I believe her name was Lissette. She was really friendly, and kept asking how I was doing. She was speedy, but she didn't rush. I did notice, while I was under the dryer that there seemed to be a never ending stream of people in and out. Which is of course good business, but it didn't seem like people had appointments, so the team was shuffling people around. They definitely were doing a good job at it. Online, I thought the style I wanted would be $85, I was charged $125, probably for the cool style Lissette and I decided on. I visited this salon three times for loc retightening between June 2024 and August 2025. Unfortunately, I won't be returning due to inconsistent pricing and poor business practices. For my first appointment in June 2024, I scheduled in person about a week ahead. Doris looked at my hair, quoted me a price, and I booked. At the end of that appointment, however, she suddenly charged me more, saying my hair was long and I had a lot of locs--even though she had already seen my hair when giving me the original quote. My second appointment in June 2025 went smoothly, with no pricing issues. At my third appointment in August 2025, the same situation happened again. Despite booking in person before and being quoted a price after Doris looked at my hair, I was told after the service that it would cost more. After some back and forth--where I reminded her she had just recently quoted me in person--she eventually honored the original price. While the work itself was fine, I can't overlook this pattern of quoting one price and then changing it after services are completed. That's not a trustworthy way to do business, and it will prevent me from returning. read more

I had a great couple experiences once this location opened and I love how clean the salon always is. The loctician has been working with locs for close to a decade and I think it shows in how meticulous she is in parting and washing the hair. I'm glad I tried this salon and as a word of advice, make sure to follow-up about your called-in appointment in writing so you have a record of confirming your appointment time. read more

This review is long overdue. I been growing my hair out for about a year and finally decided to pull the trigger on locking my hair. I originally went to another salon and I hated how she did the lines. I'm not an OCD person but I knew I'd look in the mirror every day and it would drive me crazy. I asked her to fix it and she made it worse. I found this place on yelp and what made me come here was that another person wrote how Doris (the owner) was very meticulous. She was about to close for the day and took me in. The place is huge and everyone here is super nice. ITS A WHOLE VIBE!! The young lady that washed my hair made me feel confident that Doris will redo my hair. When Doris finally touched my hair I can tell she is an architect. The back of my hair tends to loosen up pretty quickly and over the coarse of these months my locked up pretty quickly and I get compliments every time I leave here. I started coming in February 2023 and I have to say that this is the best decision I ever made. And for the brothers and sisters out there I'm a 44 y/o Black man that knows nothing about hair and to see that my hair has grown so much as well as the other brothers and sisters that come here is definitely inspiring and motivating. Hello My yelp family, I'm back with another review and this time it's not my favorite subject "FOOD" lol today it's about a salon , Soooo I have locs for the past 17yrs and I was looking for another spot and came across "Master Dreadlocks" which is located in Brooklyn NY @ 229 Rogers ave & President street!!! Let's just say I was pleasantly surprised , let me tell you why, the owner Ms.Doris , she's uhmmm I believe Dominican, yessss I never ever been to a Dominican who specializes in locs.... When I tell you she's amazing.. her vibe was genuine and I felt it , her hands worked wonderfully with my hair ,,, I was impressed ... she has someone wash and let me tell you, I felt me "SNORING" (don't judge) lol she was using the palm of her hand , don't ask, it felt sooooooooo good.. I'm not even exaggerating.. the ambiance is great , clean , professional and well decorated.. she's a one stop shop . Really great experience. I had a loc detox done, which includes twisting, and had a basic hair style done. I went in first thing in the morning and the salon owner was doing education with her team. My appointment started immediately and I was out of there 2 hrs and 15 mins later. Never any downtime where I felt forgotten or neglected. Super professional place, and a huge, clean space (no food or drink allowed fyi). The owner is the only master loctician I think, but seems to advise and supervise the other hairstylists as they perform services, and she did my style expertly. I kept it up for about a week, then when I took it down the crimped texture lasted well over a week. I felt like I really got my money's worth. I will definitely be going back for other services. read more

Doris is very rude. And she is difficult and angry. I feel bad for her daughter and her staff. I cannot recommend this hair salon.

I've tried others before I met Doris and I've never looked back. I've had microlocs for almost 2 years and when I moved to NY, I needed to find a loctician skilled in interlocking. I've been more than happy with my experiences here. The shop is clean and the staff is welcoming. My hair always looks and feels amazing when I leave. And my hair is always done quickly and neatly. I scheduled and arrived at 9:30am for an interlocking appointment that is listed as $150 up on their website. I did not leave this place until 3:15pm (my hair appts generally take no more than 2 hours) and was charged $260 for a starter interlock and crotchet service (I already have a head of locs) bc the lady doing my hair used the crotchet method without my request (I was asleep the beginning of the appt and didn't even realize this). Did not have the bandwidth to argue or go back and forth and so paid the price. The owner is awful she kept rushing the lady doing my hair and screaming at the top of her lungs for everyone in the saloon to hear how long my hair was taking and that it would cost me so much, very uncomfortable.
