Just got back from breakfast at Simple Eats. My first time there.... overall, a disappointment. On the plus side, the atmosphere is bright and warm and pleasant.... quite an accomplishment given the dismal architecture and business history of that building. But then... I had the garden omelet special with coffee. Nothing else. My bill came to $14.80 after tax... a bit much given such a simple fare... which wouldn't have been so bad except that my coffee was served in a paper to-go cup, my "home fries" were actually a small portion of boiled potato chunks soaked with what tasted like margarine, and toast or biscuit was not included. To top it all, the open WiFi guest connection was abysmally weak and thus unusable. I don't think I'll be going back for breakfast unless the owners decide to do what most every other breakfast place under the sun does... include some toast or biscuit with your overpriced omelet. I'm not a large person and I left the place hungry. read more

really good local restaurant. i love that you can get local produce before heading home. the food definitely had some great flavor combinations. the side of the day was absolutely delicious. think a potato salad without mayo. they had plenty to choose from with desserts as well. the only thing i'm really surprised about is that this place does not have sugar in the raw/agave/or stevia as part of their sweetener arsenal. maybe add some almond/coconut milk as well. will come back. read more

We had a fantastic Sunday brunch with our 3 children & 2 friends this weekend. Our newest Shore Drive food destination - formerly known as H2O, & then for a brief time, another bar/restaurant called Mangos - is fully revamped into a bright, quaint & inviting breakfast & lunch spot. Long farmhouse style tables, & 8ft round reclaimed wood high tops, mix perfectly with smaller shabby chic 2 & 4 top tables - making this place an excellent choice when dining with a variety of group sizes. The new, fenced in, rear outdoor seating area was a great option for us, given the 3 children (under 6) who accompanied us. We were kindly greeted & escorted to our table by owner/manager Sandy (former longtime manager of Bayville's Taste Unlimited). Our server Liz was extremely pleasant & attentive, a real plus given the busy time of day & nearly full restaurant they had upon our arrival. The children gobbled up their pancakes, served w/ fresh fruit, & sausage links. The adults sipped yummy Sake Bloody Mary's garnished w/ pickled julienne carrots & baby gherkins. We ordered the B.E.L.T. (bacon, poached egg, lettuce, & tomato between perfectly toasted sourdough bread) & the Peppered Roast Beef sandwich w/ Havarti, chimichurri, lettuce, & tomato. Each sandwich is paired with different sides, but substitutions aren't a problem. The B.E.L.T.'s came w/ perfectly seasoned roasted potatoes & the Peppered Beef w/ a colorful sort of succotash. The quality of food is outstanding. I'm certain all the sauces are made in-house, using the same, extremely fresh, locally sourced ingredients that makes up their menu. Super cute place inside. They won't attract visitors because it doesn't look great from the outside but love the inside. We came for breakfast on a weekday. Only one other table. For a place that someone commented is farm to table we didn't think there was that much emphasis on freshness. The butter was served in little packages you see at diners. We didn't see any yogurt or granola or fresh fruit served. The omelette were just ok and sausages just ok. OJ tasted like carton kind and coffee was just metal tasting. $13 for omelette seemed steep given nothing was special going into to it. Service was ok. Shouting nice goodbyes as we left seemed strained. Not sure if we'd go back. Just average. read more

My boyfriend & I went there for brunch. We loved it. It's a take on southern life. The inside is rustic & they have a take on southern food. We ordered the Bloody Mary flight, our favorite was the Sassy Bloody. For food I ordered the biscuits & gravy. They were great, but I would of liked more gravy. My boyfriend ordered the Shipwreck & he loved it. It was scrambled eggs with peppers. We can't wait to go to dinner there one night. read more

The ambiance of Simple Eats is eclectic and inviting; however, the menu needs work. I had a beef taco that was overdone. For $2.95 the side of watermelon, tomatoes, and basil was small and just OK. The rest of my party was not overly fond of their choices. I think there is hope with a tweaking of the menu. With Leaping Lizard just down the street, there needs to be work to compete with the completeness of their menu and pricing. I do not recommend lunches being a la carte. There is hope for this new restaurant with another redo of the menu and what goes on with the cooks. I wish them well. read more

So today we tried Simple Eats. The décor when you enter the place really makes you want to like it!! During Brunch they had a guitarist playing added a little something. The wait staff were nice and friendly. They have a nice outdoor section for sunny days. Was a little worried about the amount of time we would be there since many complaints are about wait times and the place was very busy. The wait time was not that long so bonus points for that. Now on to the food my friend had the Gamberetto which was reported to me as good. I unfortunately had the Beach Beef. This was not a good choice! The chimmichurri was on both sides of the sandwich and there was so much garlic in it that I could have been eating anything and not known the difference. Basically I had 2 pieces of sourdough toast with a garlic clove in the center. You could not taste the Roast Beef or the cheese this took a lot out of it for me. Again I really wanted to like the place there was a lot of people so I had high hopes only to be crushed again on shore drive! read more

i decided to try a new spot for breakfast today and i have heard good things about their breakfast menu here, so i tried it. i will break it down...coffee: great - most places i eat, i have to make the coffee a certain way, so that was my plan today, lady asked and i said i need glass of milk, empty glass and coffe, she asked what was i trying to do - i explained i like it 50/50 coffee milk, she said not to worry they would take care of it - wow - i like it......next i order breakfast special - 2 eggs - meat - taters - toast - i add two extra eggs - bacon-taters-wheat toast - eggs over easy - wonderful - toast outstanding - taters good - bacon, here had a snag - i am use to bacon being 1 strip or up to 5 strips depends on where i eat bacon - i expect it to be single strips general grilled or cooked in a pan. in my breakfast travels i have encountered bacon cooked in deep fryer a few times and today i suspect that was how this order of bacon was cooked, so i do not get 3 separate pieces, but 3 snarled up strips all stuck together - bummer - the toast was great, i even got another order.........i left happy as a clam....added a few pics.....i forgot - very nice wrapped butter tooo read more

Came in and was seated right away. The restaurant was not busy what so ever. Once seated we waited more than 25 minutes for the waitress to take our order. The waitress had been near our table multiple times and repeatedly failed to take our order. The food was okay. Throughout the visit my drink sat empty the entire time. Won't be back any time soon that's for sure. read more

It was a great lunch date by myself. It's nice to see small new places like this do well. The food and service great! Only a few minor complaints. It took a lot longer for the food to come out than it should have. Especially since I had quiche that I know was already pre made. It also wasn't as hot as it could have been and the top crust had a weird taste, almost like gasoline or something...I can't put my finger on it. The inside was great and the bottom crust was good. The biscuit was just OK....too dense and didnt need the inside grilled. The biggest thing about this lovely homemade biscuit was that when I asked for jam, I got the little smuckers packet. Really? For a local food place, I'd suggest a higher end jam. They were fast to fill my ice tea and help with anything I needed. Will definitely come back and try more things. We went in a while ago for dinner. We were the only diners in there. The manger was in the back yelling at the cook who was yelling back. I thought this kind of stuff only happened on Kitchen Nightmares. We were in direct view of the whole thing and the manager knew we were there. I can't believe the unprofessionalism. Our food came out and the cook must have been pissed because it was not good. My food was so salty I couldn't eat it and I love salt. My friend got the sandwich with honey on it and there was just so much honey that you couldn't enjoy it. I haven't been back since though I see it's been packed. read more

We went to Sunday brunch and showed up at 1045. Overall slightly above average drinks, average food, below average service. We got the pimento bacon oysters as an app, the farmhouse burger, and the pimento BLT. The oysters were awesome, but the other items were average. The "BLT" was severely lacking in the bacon department and the burger was pretty overcooked. The blood orange sorbet mimosas were excellent, as was the three ships coffee. The disappointing aspect was the service. The server herself was excellent, but she was waiting extensively on the kitchen and bar (not her fault). While we were in seats at 1045 with no wait, we didn't get drinks till 1108, and didn't get the main course until 1200 (75 minutes). It seems the kitchen was a little stretched. Would go again only to give it a chance at its best game, I.e. not on the weekend. read more

Our party of 5 had to wait 45 minutes for our food after placing our order. The worst service we've ever experienced at a restaurant! We voiced our concern about the amount of time we had been waiting, but the waiter did very little to make us want to come back. The food was good, but the whole experience was tainted by bad service. I really wanted to like this place since it's right around the corner from me. So disappointed. read more

I was so excited for this restaurant to open. Unfortunately, I don't believe they were ready for customers quite yet. The food was good, hence the two stars. However, the service was extremely poor and the wait for a sandwich was ridiculous, as our table mates agreed. The worst was there was no sign of management. When a restaurant opens, there should be someone monitoring the guests and at the very least greeting and saying good bye. No one cared how our meal was and no one asked at any point while we were eating. It is too bad. read more

I have had mixed experiences here with food being outstanding -- chicken salad sandwiches -- to moderately average -- tacos. The fish taco was dry, the BBQ taco just warm, and the shrimp taco cold and almost tasteless. I have had better tacos lots of places. My wife had the watermellon and tomato salad that didn't seem to go together ... The tomato and watermelon tasted good, but not so good together as a salad. But the most disappointing thing with this restaurant is how long it takes to get your food once you place your order. Today it was at least 50 minutes. So we will try it one more time, trying breakfast to see if the service is faster then. I hope they get themselves together soon because I like the concept and location. The staff is friendly, but a bit disorganized. Cross your fingers they learn from their weaknesses before they lose a hopeful following. read more

This place is in walking distance from my house, but I doubt that I will ever be visiting there again. The service was extremely slow with a waitress that threw the restaurant under the bus every chance she got. Plus I'm glad we did not want to hear the specials, because I watched her read them off of her cell phone to another table for 10 minutes. To her defense it is hard to work in a restaurant on a Sunday morning that has no bacon cooked, home fries available, or sour cream to offer with a breakfast burrito. Even still, we waited so long we ended up getting our own cream and sugar for our coffee. Since we were unable to get the side of home fries we ordered because they were out at 11am some of us opted for the "veggies" which was a very small cup of edamame and corn at best, which was not really what I would have expected for a side. The bacon that did come eventually with our food, 45 minutes after we ordered, was very under cooked and not edible. I do realize that Sunday brunch on Shore Drive can be daunting and hectic and waiting is to be expected, however, being served subpar food, with horrible service on top of waiting about an hour for the food to even come is ridiculous. We never spoke to a manager/owner because at that point, we just wanted to leave so we paid and left. There are a lot of other choices on Shore Drive to dine in for Sunday brunch with much better experiences. I do hope that this place can turn it around because it would be nice to walk to brunch on a Sunday morning. read more

Simple Eats recently hosted a surprise birthday party for me and they did a spectacular job. They were very easy to work with when it came to the menu, very accommodating to special requests and the party (even the surprise part) was a success. The food was delicious (pork and chicken taco bar, wings, sandwiches, black beans and rice, etc), the staff was on point and they even accommodated our music selection. I stopped in yesterday to have lunch. Waitress sat us right away and brought us water, but then never came back. After 20 minutes, I decided to go to the register and ask if we could order our food. I ordered a flatbread for an appetizer and figured it would come out first, but it came out after our meals. The food was good, fresh and unique, but the waitresses...hmmm, don't know what happened there. Had dinner here a few weeks ago and mentioned we were celebrating a birthday -- male waiter was super cool and surprised us with a fudge ice cream desert that was soooo good. Came here for lunch for the first time today. I ordered the apple and honey salad... I believe it was supposed to have nuts and it didn't come with them. Then my friend ordered the sweet potato burger and got the other regular burger with an egg instead, we were excited to try the sweet potato burger because it was different but that's okay. After my salad I ordered the Thai breakfast bowl. The rice, kimchi, and poached egg were the best part but they were all cold including the egg. The worst part of the meal was the pork belly. I'm a huge fan of pork belly, and I've never had such a poorly cooked piece. It was undercooked so the fat was chewy and hard to swallow. I took no more than one bite and my friend spit his bite out .... I would have loved to tell my honest opinion to the server to fix the problem but our table was never touched after we got our food. You can easily miss this gem if you're not looking! As previous reviews state it's not much from the outside but the inside is super cute and roomy! We know our way around some burgers so the billboard stating they had the best burger at the beach was a taste challenge we had to accept! To dress up, we added a fried egg and extra cheese to pair with perfectly sized croissant-like flaky bun. However where the toppings supplied the flavor is where perhaps the meat was lacking. If this was the best burger in-town, it could be beat, but worthy of standing at the medal ceremony. With the catch of the day sandwich we opted for the cod which was good but the size of the fish barely covered the bun. There was a thousand island type sauce that came with the burger that added the perfect touch to this naked sandwich. We'd highly suggest serving that on the side every time! In addition to the burger, there were some great pancakes ..... as a side! The batter used was pretty awesome as we could have eaten without syrup! Light and fluffy like mom used to make. Having a local hot sauce on the table was a nice touch! The mimosa sampler was a unique option that we just had to try! We had the OG, the sorbet, fall and the berry. Other than the original, these seemed to taste relatively the same but with the price of $12 for the sampler or $8 for 1 - if you want to try something different and get a tad more champagne ,the sampler is the way to go. If we had a place in Chic's beach we'd definitely go here often for the vibe and the decent food. read more
