Brought out of town guests here for lunch today and had very poor service and food was disappointing. Oysters were small, lackluster and tasteless. The catch of the day was not good, perhaps the fish was old? Should have sent it back but it took so long to get it that we were starving. This place has potential but I don't think they are ready for more than three stars. Positives are the atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff. Also, the food was prepared well and innovative. However, on the negative side, it took way to long to get the food out on a not so busy weekday lunch. The portions were on the small side for the price. The menu was interesting but it was hard to tell if the offerings were salads, sandwiches or entrees. The menu needs to be reorganized. Going into this location is always interesting because it is fun to predict if it will succeed or not. The location seems to be cursed. We were positive about it as the interior was unique and the servers were nice. Loved the decor and overall feel of the restaurant. It looks just as you would imagine a local small business Virginia beach restaurant to look. We had three ships coffee which is always excellent and the oyster appetizer which was excellent. My wife had a breakfast open faced meal which she enjoyed and I had a massive farmhouse burger. The burger was cooked perfectly and you could really tell the quality of the beef. We look forward to introducing visiting friends and family to this Virginia Beach "local" spot! read more

Recently had the opportunity to have breakfast at this cool spot. The biscuits & gravy was tremendous and with real home fries additionally the oysters cooked with pimento cheese and served in the half shell were amazing. Great little farm to table place on Shore Drive in Virginia Beach. Had the Yard Bird salad. The greens in the salad are crunchy good the chicken has a delicious subtle smokiness. The fish tacos ( I had the wahoo) are good for me they could use corn tortilla vice flour and maybe some cream but that's my opinion. Great selection of regional brew. We love this place! All of the staff is always friendly and quick! The decor is so cute and unique, the food is locally sourced, and the coffee is amazing! We've been coming since they've opened and they really have it running like a fine tuned machine now! If you're from the beach or visit frequently you understand the breakfast/brunch "wait struggle" and we always get seated in under 30 min! (For those of you from out of a town this is a huge WIN in the brekkie department around here!) Yes, some days the food wait is a tad long, but shoot!, with all these awesome drink options I don't see what the problem is with waiting a bit! As a local who used to come here regularly I will never return. Service here is remarkably horrible these days. First the hostess forgot about us causing a wait of nearly 45 minutes then they ran out of my order and ham. When we were finally able to order our food it took 65 minutes, so the waitress said that her boss would bring it to our table. She did but without one word other than the food orders not one apology, "have a great day", nothing. It was THE worst service I've ever had. I've never left a poor review anywhere but this was ridiculous. So if this is what you're looking for enjoy! read more

The food at Simple Eats was plentiful and delicious. I can't understand why this place isn't more crowded. We were trying to avoid the crowds at Citrus. We went on a Friday morning at 8:30 and had our pick of tables. I had the eggs benedict, except with crab cakes. It was half the price that Citrus charges, and just as delicious. My daughter had a breakfast bowl, to which she added bacon. My husband had the Shipwreck - 2 Edwards sausages with eggs, home fries, and other stuff. All was super yummy! I would definitely go back there again. They carry many locally made products and source their food locally with a seasonal menu. Fun, charming little place. The staff are very friendly and the food is outstanding. Everything was so overwhelming good. We went for breakfast and got biscuits and gravy, the shipwreck, and mimosas. I'd recommend the blood orange sorbet mimosa (let the sorbet melt a little, stir it up with the orange wedge that they garnish the drink with). I have been to Simple Eats three times. The first experience, the food was good and the ambience was tolerable. The second time we had horrible service. Polite, nice waiters- but completely MIA and we had to ask three and four times for silverware and water! The third time was for lunch on a work day. We sat for 40 minutes and sought out our waiter to finally ask for our food to be boxed to go once it was made. It was soggy by the time we got to eat it. The decor is overwhelming, the food is just OK but I like that it is locally sourced! I want to like this place, but it just misses the mark. read more

However, it took over an hour to get our food after we ordered, and then the order was wrong. In the meantime, no one came to check or even noticed that we were just sitting there and didn't get the app we'd ordered. We were hungry and the place was less than half full, so this wasn't cool. Then the food finally arrived and was pretty disappointing. Small portion sizes for the price and, frankly, just did not taste that great even to people who were really hungry. To their credit, they acknowledged the delay and comped us, which is the only reason this isn't a 2 star review. I appreciated that, but don't think I'll be returning. read more

We took my stepdaughter and son-in-law to Simple Eats this morning for breakfast and we loved, loved, loved it. Fun decor and ambience inside. Excellent service (Waitperson Jake connected with us beautifully and was very knowledgeable.). And delicious breakfast. Three garden omelettes and an egg pie with meat. Super fresh with out of the ordinary ingredients. We're going back for dinner late week. Highly recommend for breakfast.
