Silver Star is the GO-TO spot for breakfast/brunch! (and at midnight when you want a bacon egg and cheese) No one beats their pancakes or French toast, pretty much breakfast overall. We got off the road and stopped here for dinner on Saturday, about six pm. Based on our experience, it's not going on our Go To list of favorites. The positive is that it's a lovely bright place with plenty of parking and the cake display is what dreams are made of. We were seated immediately and noticed a large staff on duty. The menu had most everything you could imagine and our waitress promptly appeared to take our drink order. The downside started with the coffee that tasted burned, replaced by a soda that was flat. I ordered a Rueben and potato salad - standard diner fare, right? I got a sopping wet sandwich (undrained kraut) and dried out corned beef. The potato salad was crunchy with barely cooked potatoes. Mr C ordered a chili cheese omelet after being assured the chili was not spicy and it was inedible for him, and my sinuses were stirred by the heat just from sitting beside it. My son ordered a cheese omelet that came with a hard brown crust. When the waitress came back to the table it was with a check, and she made no comment about the mostly full plates we were leaving behind. We pointed out the hard omelet, and the drenched sandwich and she said "Sorry." My advise is save yourself and go to the place down the street. read more

I'm shocked by the negative reviews. And they do not have roaches everywhere. Lol sounds like someone wanted to get a free meal...anyway... I've been coming here since 2003. Before kids, now with my son at five, we both cone at least every other week for brunch or a dinner. The staff is incredibly attentive and nice. They basically watched my son grow up and they never forget named of their regulars. They are kid friendly with crayons and mats to draw, balloons, even cookies to go for free when they have any more left! We typically get breakfast for any meal and at times ill try a special. But our favorites are the omlettes, waffles, grits, pancakes. I also love their Greek dishes. It's a diner. Diner food is not supposed to be a fine cut filet lol. So if you are looking for good regular diner food give it a try. What's fabulous is they make their own desserts on premises. They are always fresh and delicious bakery like desserts. You don't find that a lot. They are always packed on weekends. Yet always attentive. The staff had longevity which is nice to see. Says a lot about their atmosphere to work. This I may say was a true experience. Came for breakfast with my mom and bf , we sat fairly quickly ordered our food and went all down hill from there Waited 45 minutes for eggs. Now I understand they were busy but our waitress NOT ONCE told us ' it will be our soon '. Our food finally arrives and we eat. Breakfast was tasty. And nicely portioned. Went for lunch Saturday September 6 2020 we have chosen this place because it has a large dining room setup however when we arrived they piled everybody in one corner closest to the kitchen six booths maybe four feet apart cross the isle and they place some plastic screen that was hanging and left 4 inches void on the bottom This is not COVID safe place The other thing is my husband ordered cheeseburger triple decker which is cheeseburger club with fries it came on a small plate fries piled on the top of the sandwich and when you try to cut into it everything slides off on the table Is is laziness or inability not sure but it seems that many places are using the virus to cut down on service we sure won't be going back there read more

I can't stop thinking about how delicious the rice pudding was. It was obviously homemade and had a skin on top - delish! I ordered the Greek salad with chicken for lunch. It was nicely done and a big portion. I would have rather ordered something else, but they were out of gluten free bread. Horrible experience I came in at 10:50pm with my bf and they seated us off in a construction ((taped seating right at the front door)) part of the Diner. On top of it the women that seated us down that was at the register kept staring at us the whole entire time. When it was time to tell another waitress our orders I asked for a simple short stack pancakes with strawberries... The pancakes were fine but the Strawberries were going bad and some were kind of moldy. I lost my appetite and so did my bf. When I went here when I was young this place was awesome to go to. Diner lost in time. Everything needs a deep cleaning, painting or complete overhaul. Very mediocre food quality. Fruit salad appeared to have been made multiple days ago and was watery and we ate in Sunday morning at 10am. Gallo eggs - menu items described pinto beans there was some broken rice with black beans on the plate, plantains were not sweet and were rock hard deep fried chunks. Just not appetizing snd lacked and authenticity or flavor. The one order of Challah French toast was good with fresh cut strawberries and bananas. Silver Star Diner has been my family's favorite place to eat anywhere since we moved to Norwalk 12 years ago. We eat there once or twice a week and between all of us have confirmed that we've ordered everything on the menu. We order our favorite dishes and specials a lot, but having so many of them it's still a tremendous variety of entrees to decide on every time we sit down. The main dining room is our favorite spot because it's low-lit, quiet even when there are a good amount of people seated because of its size and floor plan, and decorated in a very homey fashion that perfectly suits its delicious comfort food. Silver Star is the only place that we eat, including fancy restaurants, in which we look at and order from the specials menus often because they always live up to its name. The Meat Loaf Tower is my favorite. Have a spotter and don't look down. It's a high-rise of tender, juicy meatloaf adorned with creamy, gravy-laced mashed potatoes. Unbelievably tasty. The wait and managerial staff are very friendly (Gus makes you feel like you're in the home of a dear friend), professional, and provide fast, efficient service. We love going there. It's a break from a workday that makes you forget it ever happened and it makes the weekends more fun. It's like a theme park of food. Treat yourself. Treat your family. Food was subpar...the nail in the coffin was the lousy service. I came in one day for breakfast and ordered a meat skillet. Halfway through my meal, I had to run off to the restroom. I couldn't have been gone for more than a minute. When I came back, my food was gone! I complained to the manager and he said that since I had left my table, I was "finished". At first, I refused to pay for a meal I didn't finish but he threatened to call the cops on me. After grudgingly paying, I demanded a new meat skillet. Instead, the manager told me to leave right away and never return. I called later to complain - the manager on duty then sided with the rude manager I dealt with that morning. I'm curious what shift the people with negative reviews had when visiting this diner. I went around 9-10pm and had a great waiter named Gus. He joked around with my 8 yr old brother, was attentive and made sure to quality check, and the food was just as diner food always is! Nothing more, nothing less. Shame on me for not writing this review closer to my visit because I don't remember what I ordered, but I do remember my brother getting a special order of something with no problems at all. I stopped into this place and loved it. The interior is cheesy but in that good diner kind of way. Nothing to fancy just an above average diner. They have all your standard diner fare (meaning a huge menu). I thought our waitress was unfriendly when we sat down but when taking our order she warmed up and turned out to be quite nice. I happen to be moving right near here in the not to distant future and you can bet I will make this a regular place. other tidbits: Even though the parking lot is huge for some reason it seems cramped. I saw someone back into a car and just take off (not real damage done) so you might want to just park towards the back of the lot and burn off a few of those diner calories. read more
