So very disappointing... This diner has been a community staple for decades. My husband grew up eating at Orem's with his family. But the "Short Stack French Toast" was two pieces, side-by-side, of lightly coated bread with a take-out plastic side of maple/breakfast syrup. Over $40 for me and a 3 year old is absolutely insane and so disappointing. There are less expensive diners around. Try Dimitri's in Ridgefield... they at least put in a bit of effort. read more

I came by for dinner last night and only got pictures of my dessert because I was too hungry and jumped right in to my Greek chicken on pita w/ fries. So there's an Apple pie alamode from last night and my breakfast from this morning because I had to give Orem's an appropriate review. Perfect eggs over medium, perfect bacon, real butter for my Belgian waffle and fantastic coffee w/ raw sugar available as an option to sweeten instead of fake or processed sweeteners! There are days when I just crave breakfast food. So one day for lunch the urge hit me while at work. So I went to the diner. I got a scrambled egg platter and a single pancake. I have gotten food from there plenty of times but never left a review. The experience is always good. The staff is very friendly and consistent. They food comes out pretty quickly. They have a big seating area but I mainly eat at the counter. And the prices are pretty reasonable. You really can never go wrong with a diner! read more

There's something wonderful about a diner on a cold, wet day. It's cozy. Everything is good here. My go to is the Western Omelette. Soup, liver & onions, club sandwiches- it's all good. The only thing I wouldn't recommend is a burger. They're good, don't get me wrong- but everything on it is a la carte, even the lettuce and tomatoes. So it gets pricey quick. The owners wife makes the most incredible cheesecake, but not every day- so that's the first thing we check in the dessert cooler every time we come! read more

If you've even stayed in Wilton for any length of time, you have likely at least heard of a spot called Orem's Diner. If you've driven on the 7 and headed towards Norwalk from say Danbury, then you have at least passed by this place. For me personally, I've come here every now and then and have eaten from here at various times of the day. This past Good Friday was my first visit in almost 2 years, but I needed a place to dine that night, so this was an easy choice. The photos shown here are what I had that night: the Monte Cristo with a side of seasoned curly fries. I chose Pepsi for my drink because I honestly couldn't go with just water and it was a tad late for coffee for my liking. Now, for those uneducated on what a Monte Cristo is, it is a form of Croque Monsieur that uses French toast. If you haven't had Croque Monsieur before, I do recommend you try one because they do slap! It's why they're a French icon! The ambiance of the place definitely fits the place it is. You don't get much more of a true diner look than this. The food I've had over the years does average out to four stars, and that's the biggest reason for this not getting five. The Monte Cristo is a 3.5 out of 5: good, but you definitely need to eat it quick because it gets cold quick. The fries were seasoned perfectly and I have no complaints there. Now, I don't know if they still serve this, but my absolute favorite thing to get from here is when I would come for breakfast years ago and grab a Belgian waffle with a scoop of chocolate ice cream on top. I don't know of any other diner that does it that way, but that was the best thing I have ever had from Orem's. Serve it with bacon and it was breakfast HEAVEN! The service is generally friendly, but the methods of payment do irk me a bit. Cash is preferred, but they do accept card payments. What they DON'T accept is Apple Pay, and I find that to be a bit of a nuisance when paying for my food and is the other reason I have to keep this at a four and not bump it up to a five. Still, if you can find your way around that, you won't have a problem eating here. So yeah, if you're ever in Wilton, this is a pretty good spot to try, and it's a staple here. It's not going away any time soon. Coming for breakfast is preferable if you want the best food, but don't knock dinner either. read more

Note: I'd give it 3.5 for Wilton area but as for worldwide diners barely a 2. Not open late. Greek food is not a standard delight, BUT fast, clean, good bfast game. Pancakes are yes pls and eggs cooked nicely any way you please. Star of show actually have to be the home fries that are reminiscent of Hungarian krumply (cubes of soft boiled potatoes griddled w onions and paprika). Being at this restaurant has been one of the worst experiences of my life. I have lived all over the world but have never been asked if my companion was going to show up anytime soon because they had customers waiting. First of all I was only there for 15 minutes before my friend showed up. Secondly there was no line of people waiting . The waiter that was serving our section kept walking by murmuring under his breath about us not ordering and not ordering enough. It was so incredibly rude and unpleasant. On our way back home from Block Island to Virginia, we were taking the Merritt across Connecticut and we did a search for 'diner lunch' and Orem's came up so we gave it a try. We were very impressed with the variety and the quality of the food, and the service was top notch. Orem's is now in our map database and we'll visit again on future trips in the area. read more

I've been going to Orem's for as long as I can remember. The food is always delicious, the service is always fast, and the restaurant is always warm and inviting. This is the perfect place to go on a week day or weekend. Note that the weekends are particularly busy and there is often a wait! Orem's is our diner! For a diner, this place is 5 stars to me. Good food, fast service, accommodating, and friendly. We've come with our little kids many times, making a huge mess (spilling things, etc) and we never feel like a "problem." A diner that's better than average but with such long waits and such big crowds it doesn't make it worth it (at least not often). Breakfast is obviously the way to go here and their pancakes and omelettes are tastier than what you'd expect from a run-of-the-mill diner. It's a family business as well which is easy to appreciate. But I tell ya the folks in this area think it's the best breakfast in the northeast and flock here like there's no other choice every weekend. Today my husband and I stopped in for a late breakfast I had the blintzes breakfast. 2 blueberry 1 cheese with eggs and hash browns plus toast. The blintzes were excellent. Lots of food so I shared part of it. My husband had the short stack. But the best part was as we were leaving my husband found out that the cheese cake was home made by the manger's mother She bakes it at home and brings in We bought to slices to take home and it was by far some of the very best cheese cake we have ever had. Orems is one of the few remaining authentic diners in the area. It's as close to home cooking as one can get without having to wash the dishes yourself. Whatever is on the menu is available, tasty, fresh and reasonably priced- which is saying a lot in the Fairfield County restaurant market. I've become a regular more-or-less, even though it's a bit out of the way for me, but the staff knows their business, the service is great, breakfast is hot, arrives fast and no one cares if you're wearing designer jeans and whether your suit came from Mitchell's or Costco. ........ and you can fill your belly with wholesome chow without taking out a second mortgage on the house. read more

First, I love diners. The variety, the hours, the staff. Orems is located in Wilton and they don't stay open very late. But the variety is good and so is the food. The fries are the big steak fries which few places have anymore and their Greek specials are very good. Last night hubby and I were out all.day and felt like getting something out and Orem's fit the bill. He had the open-faced roast beef and double mashed potatoes after viewing another patron's dish smothered in gravy. I had the turkey club. There was so much turkey I really struggled to eat it, but of course managed to down 3/4s of it. I took home hubby's salad and what was left of my club and fries. But didn't offer to find out. I ordered a Turkey Reuben and my husband got a Turkey club. He seemed to like his sandwich, but our fries were lukewarm at best. my Turkey Reuben was not good and inside had burnt black things in it. So happy that Orem's was so quick to serve my food. I was in town to run an errand and did not have time to wait. The only thing I ordered was a western egg sandwich on a roll. I cheaped out and did not pay the extra $1 for cheese. I should have just paid the damn dollar. The sandwich was still quite good but cheese would have made it perfect. This is one of my favorite diners around my home. It's got a great variety of foods from Greek, traditional diner food, and even burgers. The diner has a lot of room with a mix of booths, bar seating, and standard tables and chairs. The service is sometimes hit or miss. Some staff is friendlier than others, but that's to be expected at all restaurants. I'm also very happy with the prices offered by the establishment. I think experiences during COVID times are going to be what make or break restaurants and service establishments and change the fabric of our society. I went to Orem's early on during my trip and had a lovely Sunday morning interaction with the older gentleman usually at the counter. It was normal old fashioned communication and made me want to return to give them more of my business and support them during the leaner revenue times of COVID. The recent visit, however, was an entirely different experience filled with the fear that is permeating a large chunk of society. Instead of taking my order correctly, the younger cousin was more interested in informing me I could go inside to pick up my order only if I was wearing a mask. Hhhhmmm, you don't think I'm aware of the Governor's orders are around here for the masked bandit population? No surprise the order was wrong - the same egg dish I've enjoyed for years upon years. That's what happens when fear is your motivator - it clouds everything else. Sure, he offered to remake it, but that was after I got home and certainly wasn't heading out again to enter an establishment that left me feeling worse than when I entered. Hey, at least the pup was happy having eggs for breakfast he wasn't expecting. For me, I'll head over to the European bakery where it's more of a normal old fashioned, uplifting experience without the COVID fear permeating the transactions. read more

Finally got to try this highly-loved local diner. This is definitely a family establishment and I was surprised to see how busy it was even for a Monday evening. The menu is like an encyclopedia and choosing an option was pretty difficult because there is always FOMO. There are options from any category you would want from pasta to burgers/sandwiches, salads and more. I was feeling breakfast for dinner so got the eggs benedict. Really good, filling meal. The turkey club is another popular choice here it seems. The highlight of the meal is definitely dessert. It took quite a while to pick something, especially considering that everything on display looked so good. We ended up splitting a huge slice of cheesecake between 5 people and it was enough for 2-3 big bites per person. I don't think I could have eaten more than that anyway so it was perfect. read more

I have a soft spot in my heart for diners. Growing up in Brooklyn, NY, I watched most of my favorite diners go out of business over the years. I'm happy that Orem's survived 2020 and I hope it's here to stay. My favorite dishes at Orem's are the housemade cheese blintzes, breaded chicken cutlet with gravy, and chocolate fudge cake. If you were to get anything, seriously .... get the cheese blintzes. They're soooooooo unbelievably good. My least favorite dish is the gyro - I find it to be a bit too salty. I still order it once in a while, but I really have to be in the mood for it. Get the blintzes! read more

This place is more than fine, and the food is a treat. Three of us at lunch was 45.4. I had coffee, a lox and onions omelet; the GF had a Cobb Salad, and Mom, gyro on pita; and a side of fries for the table. The avocado on the Cobb was excellent, the fries were served hot and crispy, and the omelet was very good, without cooking the lox, and getting the onions soft. The rye toast is especially good.
