4 stars + 1 star for the novelty. I am definitely a fan! The "signature" at Silver Rice is the sushi cups, which are basically sushi in poke form. All the ingredients tasted really clean and fresh, and the cups are actually a decent portion of everything. Key word is cups. It's a fun idea, but the small cup doesn't leave much room for mixing and getting a nice mixed up bite every time. I get 1 or 2 cups with a small miso soup most of the time, and that makes up a decently filling meal. The place itself is really small with very limited seating inside and a few picnic tables outside. If you're with a large group, hope it's nice out. Otherwise, carryout or order through Seamless. From the outside, it the restaurant is unassuming; you'll be glad you found this gem (err...silver?). read more

Silver Rice has great quality fish, creative dishes, and good prices. The portions are a little small but make up for it in taste and quality. Last night I got the Alaskan bowl and the salmon was very tasty. I also really liked the flaxseed rice as a healthy alternative to white rice. We had takeout from this place for dinner on a Saturday night. This place basically has healthy Japanese food. It's a bit pricey but the ingredients were fresh and the food was tasty. We ordered the spicy tuna silver rice cups, spicy salmon rice cups, salmon kombu rolls, and tuna taku rolls. The rice in the rice cups was interesting, flax seed rice which is healthier and gave it a nutty flavor. The rice cups had raw fish with cucumbers on top of the rice. It was pretty easy to eat. The rice cups were $6.50 each so it wasn't too expensive. The rolls were pricier but they do put a lot of ingredients in each roll. I liked the tuna taku roll more than the salmon kombu roll because the tuna taku roll had pickled daikon, giving it more crunch. I would come back to try their other dishes. read more

This came out as a large bowl of sushi rice with the chef's choice of sashimi (salmon, tuna, etc.,), snow crab, scallops, eel, fish roe with a large assortment of vegetables (picked daikon radish, cucumber, scallions, and avocado). So, I perused a few options within my area and decided to try Silver Rice. I decided to walk over to Silver Rice, given the fact that the rain had letup and I need the fresh air. The plan was for me to get some sushi before heading over to Bam Rose Cinemas to watch "Where Do We Invade Next" (A must see movie by Michael Moore) When I go to new places, I make it a habit of letting my waiter or waitress know that it's my first time. This is import to me because it gives them an opportunity to showcase their best both personally and what's on the menu. The beautiful lady who took my order was extremely patient as she explained my options and all the possible combinations. I reviewed the menu before I arrived and so I had an idea of what I wanted to order. I ordered the yellow tail roll and the veggie cup! So excited about this spot. Casual, no-frills, cozy/small, neighborhoody, simple, easy, approachable, yet still unique sushi joint with outdoor seating?? YES PLEASE! I got the fisherman's bowl with flaxseed rice which I loved! So fresh and such a perfect mix of all my fave sea foods. Big proportion and really reasonably priced. Don't expect to see a varied sushi list; however, what they do, they do very well. Wait long enough, and they'll create a fast-casual version of everything. Silver Rice does that for sushi and chirashi (which is similar to poké, for you trend-chasers). I ordered the fisherman's bowl, which came with basically every type of fish - tuna, salmon, yellowtail, snow crab, scallop, eel, roe, and a few other non-fish accouterments. It was a hell of a lot of food, and way reasonably priced at $17. Great way to sample everything they had available. My favorites were the snow crab and eel. But most of it was pretty good. The salmon was a little too warm and chewy for my tastes. They also serve beer and sake for people dining in (again, my Asahi beer was lukewarm, so maybe they should check their fridge settings). This place still tastes as good as I remember! It's been a few years since I've eaten from this spot. My gfs and I ordered through the seamless app. The delivery was quite quick, about 30ish mins. Overall our whole meal was stellar! The fish tastes so fresh that you can taste its own natural sweetness. The eel roll had just the right amount of sauce on it without being overpowered; you can taste the eel. The yellowtail and negi roll was also really delicious without tasting too green oniony. The only downside was that Silver Rice forgot our miso soup order. Besides that, if you want delicious sushi that is fresh, choose Silver Rice! read more

Had a quick dinner at Silver Rice on Sunday evening. Excellent sushi cups, which are affordable and quite portable. Quality: Silver Rice is solid sushi in the simplest form. While they have a limited selection of regular rolls, the better option here is the rice cups. They start each cup by filling it three-quarters with rice. Then they lay the remainder of the cup ingredients on top. For the Spicy Tuna Silver Rice Cup, it is tuna tartare, avocado, scallion, and spicy mayo. For the Unagi Silver Rice Cup it is grilled eel, avocado, cucumber, egg omelette, tempura crunch, and scallions. And for The Premium Salmon Silver Rice Cup it was sliced salmon, avocado, cucumber, and scallion with spicy mayo on the side. There is not a bad option, but I think the Premium Salmon Silver Rice Cup was my favorite, based mostly on the freshness of the fish. Quantity: I think a cup and a half is the correct quantity, one would leave you still hungry, while two would be excessive. Value: $7 for the Spicy Tuna Silver Rice Cup. $10 for the Unagi Silver Rice Cup. $10 for the Premium Salmon Silver Rice Cup. Ambiance: Silver Rice is located in Crown Heights, right off the busy Franklin Ave. I believe they normally have a small storefront for guests to go in, but with all sorts of barriers built up, it currently looks like little more than two windows. In front they had a small tent set up with two benches, however it was not a particularly inviting setup. The good thing is the cup format travels remarkably well. Crowd: There was a non-stop flow of pick-ups from their window. There were not a lot of people eating in their small outdoor dining area. Service: They are requiring all guests to order online, even if they are on-site. I feel like this slowed down the process, but it was not a major issue. I was pleasantly surprised at how fresh the fish tasted, I had the spicy salmon roll and spicy tuna roll. They were both uber oralgasmic enough to bring me back two more times the same week (don't judge me lol). I also had the miso soup which is flavored just as it's supposed to be. I ordered the spicy tuna silver rice cup, miso soup, hijiki salad and edamame (I couldn't quite eat it all, but I needed to reach the $15 delivery minimum). The rice cup is a coffee cup filled halfway with rice (I chose the flax seed rice) and topped with spicy tuna tartare, avocado and cucumber. Think of it being a broken down spicy tuna roll, but twice as filling. The fish completely melts in your mouth! I also enjoyed the edamame, which seemed salted without the actual salt. Maybe they put salt in the water used to steam the pods? The miso soup and hijiki salad were fillers, but definitely star-worthy as well! I definitely want to try some of their veggie offerings too.
