A decent place to grab breakfast while waiting for your plane, but nothing remarkable. Sometimes there is a wait for a table, but the line tends to move quickly, and food comes out fast. Service is usually a bit slow beyond the basics- for example, if you'd like a drink refill. However, they have never messed up my breakfast, and everything is moderately priced. The Silver Diner is in the Southwest Terminal of BWI. It isn't glitzy but it is a decent place to grab a bite & drink prior to subjecting yourself to the perils of air travel. The food is pretty good for an airport. The menue has a wide variety of foods from salads, burgers, to pancakes. I was there a few years ago and they undercooked my sliders. They replaced them quickly and gave me that meal for free and a coupon for a free meal in the future. I finally used it this past weekend and they honored without question even though no one knew the old manager and the voucher was a bit worse for the wear since it had been in my laptop bag traveling the country with me for a few years. 5 stars for being an amazing meal option for someone fighting ovarian cancer! I have liked everything I've ever tried here--a burger, the mango vegetarian stir fry, and an omelet (bacon, onions, peppers, cheese). This chain focuses on all natural, hormone and antibiotic free meat, local vegetables, etc. I can't have hormones due to the nature of my cancer, and I appreciate the fact that there are so many options at this diner for me. It's nice to know that when I am flying back and forth between here and Boston to go to my appointments at Dana Farber, there is a place that offers good meal choices for me. The burgers are great, and everything else was good too. Service can be a little slow, but it's always busy due to it being in an airport. I haven't ever reviewed an airport layover meal before, but a few things stuck out about Silver Diner for an airport restaurant, primarily their menu. When I have a longer layover I really like to find a sit down option instead of ordering at a counter. As tempting as the three crab cake places were, I also wanted something a little lighter than a fried ball of fish. My overall experience with Silver Diner server would probably be a three star but I was very impressed with the extensive menu. They claim to source local ingredients for their menu and had a surprising amount of vegetable heavy dishes like Brussels sprouts and portobellos. Along with a vegetarian page and a vegan section, they had a healthy option page with meals below a certain calorie count such as fish tacos and although I usually don't end up ordering off of those sections... I still love when they're included. They have breakfast served all day and the kids menu includes quinoa pancakes? Overall I am impressed with the dining options at BWI and if you have the time I recommend checking out the Silver Diner, they even have crab cakes on the menu! read more

Keeping COVID in mind per Yelp. @1330 8/2/21 The host sucked. Zero customer service. Ignoring everybody who came up to be seated. Not very welcoming. More employees than customers. So staffing not an issue. Ordered a crab cake sandwich (not available), ordered French toast (not available), half the drink order brought to table, other half sitting on counter. I'm at an airport, zero urgency in getting tables turned around. More dirty tables than clean ones (remember more staff than customers). 1410 now - still no sign of food. Food finally arrived and my daughter pulls a foot long hair from her sliders. The look on the waiter's face was priceless (not his fault). I ask to have that item taken off the check, no friction. The manager comes by to apologize and says he's also gonna give a discount on the check (thanks?). The check comes and they took off 5% a food item, not the check (I thought 20% might have been more acceptable but I guess not!). Absolutely horrible from start to finish. Where is corporate?? Really good quality and fresh food for an airport. Was surprised to see a diner pop-up with the best ratings while searching for food at BWI. I had the crab cake sliders which were excellent. I thought my coworkers plate looked the best with a bison steak-burger plate. If I'm ever in BWI stuck in a long layover again, I now know where to go. Typically I'm a big fan of Silver Diner. I've eaten at this location before and have enjoyed it. I would have loved to have eaten there today. I sat at the bar around 1:00, the restaurant had customers but no line and plenty of seats available. After 5 minutes of watching the bartender wait on customers without acknowledging me, he stopped in front of me and asked if I had enjoyed my meal?????? I said I had not yet ordered and he said oh, what can I get you. I asked for a coke. I watched him cash out several customers. Bus a couple of plates. Walk by me a dozen times. No coke. Then, after several more minutes. another customer sat down a couple of stools away and this same bartender greeted him immediately, handed him a menu, and immediately got him a drink. Breakfast here-phenomenal! I had literally no intentions on writing a review and had little expectations (it was 6am and half awake). Our server, willie, THE BEST! Didn't have a chance to tell the waitress though because she only came back to our table twice. Once to give us our food and once to give us our bill. Probably eat here once to twice a year. Made a point of grabbing crabcakes on my way out of the airport. Unlike my last experience when these were good, the crabcakes are now greasy and filled with noticeable chunks of greasy bread filler. I wasn't offered an option to get them broiled and was told they no longer carry cocktail sauce. Sad waste of calories and flavor. Should have been suspicious of the new glossy menus. Service was nonexistent. We arrived from NY with about two hours to kill so my wife and I figured, why not get some breakfast? We were seated fairly quickly......in the very very back. We looked over the menu which was simple and over priced but that is to be expected at an airport. About 15-20 min goes by and still no waiter. This place is about 1/4 full and the wait staff is wondering around socializing with each other. We got up and left, realizing that our waiter was not coming anytime soon. Lucky for us we found The Firkin & Flyer. Here, we were quickly served and the bartender was kind and accommodating. Really good especially for airport food. Old-time diner atmosphere complete with jukebox selections at your table. Believe it or not, I had my only crab cakes after three days in Baltimore. Very good. My only complaint is with respect to the cole slaw: It is excellent but they only give you a tiny condiment cup of it. Come on...how much does cole slaw cost a restaurateur? On my way back through BWI for the second time this week I decided to try this diner again. Been in Florida all week so I was kinda sea food burned out. That's why I took this place over Phillips crab house. I was pretty impressed on my first visit Second visit.... Well let just say I had a different server who maybe didn't take the same level of interest in her customers as the first. Never got a refill on my drink. Brought me the wrong pancakes. Food quality was still pretty good overall except bacon was over cooked. Manager delivered our meal instead of waitress. She was most apologetic over the error. She corrected the issue, brought more bacon, (which I never complained about before) so this was like bonus bacon! Wahoo! Them took 10% off my bill. If you're in a rush and want a good meal, walk around to the left of the line waiting to be seated (there is always a line), and you'll see a cooler on the left with freshly made wraps and salads. They substituted mashed potatoes because the fries are cooked in the same oil as the fish which I have an allergy. It was cooked just as I ordered. Had some time to kill before a flight out of BWI so our group stopped here. I asked one of our party if it was a fast food place. His reply, "it's kind of medium," cracked me up. So, the crab cakes were really better than expected for such a venue. Not greasy, not mostly filler, and served hot. The fries were crisp. The IPA brew the server recommended, Heavy Seas Loose Cannon, was quite good. The server simply rocked. She was personable, all over the separate check request for travelers on expenses, and she came running down the terminal to return a forgotten boarding pass! I was surprised at how efficient and modern their operation was - they've got electronic gizmos, ordering boards, and waitresses with PDAs! The food is good and very reasonably priced for an airport. I had the sliders basket, which had 3 really tasty burgers with a side of grilled onions (a good idea). Fries were better than average, too. And I admit it - I had a chocolate malt. So if you're stuck at BWI waiting for the inevitable cattle-car experience that is modern airline travel, you could do worse than stopping for a bite at the Silver Diner. Color me crazy but I really enjoyed my meal here! I've worked in airports for almost 30 years and I still brown bag my lunch because airport food costs a small fortune and usually tastes like crap. Apparently I never ate at the Silver Diner because this place served some very fine burgers, salads and drinks! In addition to the fresh and perfectly cooked food we had fantastic cocktails and fabulous service at the bar. And, the prices were reasonable! For an airport restaurant, this place is impressive. We stopped in on a Tuesday evening and were seated promptly. They kept our baby stroller in mind as they choose our seat. This place was a disappointment for food, value and service. Maybe the great decor and really inviting menu set my expectations too high. Every thing sounded local farm to table fresh and a step above the ordinary But you still have to execute. So my fish tacos with a citrus salad sounded good but they were a mess. Random dollops of salsa and Ranch type dressing did not help.... Also, it was so wet, you could barely pick it up. The citrus salad was just way too acidic with nothing to offset the acidity. Plus no other seasoning on the salad. My partner's turkey dinner was pretty boring and I would note that the corn tasted like it came out of a can.... Really high school cafeteria style. It's just jarring after reading up in their menu about all of their locally sourced, farm to table goodness. Service was spotty.... A side of fries didn't show up.. We asked the runner and she said she would check..... never came back. To our server's credit, when she stopped by and we mentioned it.... She got it right away. So pretty disappointing.... I know I was in an airport but if your going to put up great quotes outside about the 'great' food inside.... You should actually deliver on that. But compared to the other options at BWI this would be my choice. I got my food to go as I was against the clock to grab a flight and the girl at the counter Ky really did a great job of getting me in and out with food so I didn't miss boarding.
