That's a pretty strong endorsement. Also the interior of the restaurant was fairly modern and clean. For anyone unfamiliar with it, soondae (순대) is a traditional Korean blood sausage made by stuffing pork or beef intestines with a mixture of blood, glass noodles, rice or starch, and seasonings. It's one of Korea's most popular street foods and is typically enjoyed with salt or a dipping sauce. One thing to know before you go: this restaurant specializes in soup-based dishes. Every entrée revolves around soup, including the bulgogi. I had never seen bulgogi served in a broth before, so it was a pleasant surprise for both my boyfriend and me. Most of the soups also included clear glass noodles and came in a wide variety of combinations, so there were plenty of options to choose from. One detail I really appreciated was their takeout packaging. If you have leftovers, they use a professional heat-sealing machine that applies a thin plastic seal over the container before the lid goes on. It's a thoughtful touch that keeps the soup leak-proof and makes transporting leftovers much easier. If you're craving authentic Korean comfort food--especially soondae soup--this place is definitely worth a visit.

The interior was immediately green flags - l loved the decor and wood tones. It felt like I was in Korea! The menu is your typical pocha fare - soups, Korean pancakes, army stew, KBBQ meats. We ordered the jalapeño soy chicken wings, volcano pork, and the kimchi fried rice. My favorite was the chicken wings, really crunchy with good flavor and the wings were decently sized. The volcano pork came over a fire burner and cooked at our table. It was definitely pretty spicy but paired really well with the kimchi fried rice, which I thought could be spicier. The pork quality was ok but I really liked the flavors and the bean sprouts in the pot. I particularly love that K Pocha has zero sugar soju on the menu no sugar = no hangovers!) I'm the owner of Silla restaurant. I'm so sorry to read Anette's review today. Last night, our servers served Anette's group as customers. We were so glad for them to come to our restaurant in such a cold night Our restaurant was full of happy conversation from their room. They seemed to have a very good time with friends and we tried to give them our good service. Finally when it was time to pay, it happened to be a misunderstanding situation. The bill total was $288,04 excluding tip and they wanted give us $ 43,20 that was 15% tip. Total money was $331.24. They seemed to calculate in advance and paid separately with six party. One of them finished paying and left already. But after we got all the money according to their calculation separately, the money didn't even reach the original food cost without the tip. I realized that there was a mistake in their calculation. Though my English was poor, I tried to explain the mistake easily writing on the paper. There were too many separate payments and in the process it looked so complex. Eventually, one of them got angry and all went unsatisfactory. They paid $311,..and the original payment they wanted to give us was $331,24. I'm so sorry to let their meeting finish unsatisfactory and give my sorry message to all them if they are still angry. It's not important how much tip they gave but how much they misunderstand and complain to us. If even one of them realized our true problem and his or her complaint disappears, please erase the worst review as an honest customer. Someday I want to serve them again as our valuable customers. read more

I'm already drooling as I type this review. Located across the street from H Mart in a small strip mall with ample parking, Shin Myung Gwan was a very happy discovery for me after a popular soondae place rejected us from dining in as they were half an hour from closing. The vibes were immaculate as soon as we stepped inside--warm, dark, and cozy. The aroma of fresh meat on the grill hit our nostrils, and friendly Ajummas greeted us and seated us quickly. While I did see that this place was known for their KBBQ, that night we just wanted a hug in a meal. For me that meant some sort of soup (which ended up being their spicy potato and pork bone soup), while for my husband that meant dolsot bibimbap. We also got a beer to share. I screamed internally when they brought out the banchan. Why, you might ask? Because included in the banchan was an item that I have not seen in many years, and I've dined at plenty of Korean restaurants in the Bay Area and Sacramento. This was acorn jelly, and I can swear I haven't had acorn jelly in over a decade. It doesn't seem like many Korean restaurants make it as part of their banchan rotation, but it has always been one of my favorite banchan items, and I was so excited when I saw it. It tasted delightfully refreshing, as it should be. What we really weren't prepared for was the portion size of our food. Honestly at the price for what we paid, what a steal. My spicy potato and pork bone soup was piled high, and my husband's bibimbap came sizzling and packed with ingredients and rice. I've never had spicy potato and pork bone soup, but I'm so glad I ordered it. Within my giant bowl were tons of pork bones with tender meat that fell off the bones. Tender Napa cabbage, potatoes, perilla leaves and perilla seeds in a delightful savory broth completed the dish. Alas I did not take more photos, because it got messy as I used my hands to enjoy the pork bones, but trust me when I say my bowl was packed. I absolutely could not finish in one sitting, which worked out well, since the day after was our travel day home, and my leftovers heated up nicely for lunch on the road. My husband also had glowing remarks about his bibimbap, and was very much stuffed after as well. We'd love to return and try the KBBQ next time we're in CO. The combo sets looked so enticing. I'm so glad we found a delicious and authentic Korean spot in the Denver area and we will be back!!

I believe I noticed this restaurant 6+months ago when they first put up the sign. It sure was a long wait before it had finally opened its doors a few+ weeks ago. Congratulations Ugly Rice! I had heard so much about you and now that it's open, before people start flocking I made my way to it just today to experience it myself. It's located in somewhat off the beaten path. The area where Ugly Rice is located is a bit of a pocket. Fortunately for me though it's less than 10 minutes drive from my house. I perused the menu ahead of time so I knew what I was going to get: Bibimbap!! $17 wasn't necessarily super reasonable but for a good Korean street food people are raving about, I was willing to pay the buck. I also got me a side kimchi to enhance my meal. As soon as I got back to my car I opened the container. Then I was like, "What?" To my surprise, the portion was simply okay-ish, Well it kind of looked a bit skimpy. When I got to the core of it (the taste of food), I got more puzzled. The assortment of seasoned vegetables tasted bland. The meat's portion was also small. The seasoning in it was good but it wasn't impressive in any way. The side kimchi too didn't impress me either. Again "okay-ish" but no more. The fried egg in the center was also small (LOL) and it looked like something that was premade hours ago it it didn't look fresh at all. After writing all of this however, I have one positive feedback I can give: the service!! The man upfront was so warm and kind. As I was getting ready to leave two ladies came in and greeted the man. I immediately knew at that point that they were part of the business. And the ladies said a very meaningful "Thank you" to me as I was leaving. At least I was warmly welcomed and received by the worker. The restaurant inside is quite simple but here and there I saw some cute Korean decors to indicate the kind of cuisine they serve. On the TV screen, they had some Korean pop girl group artists. It couldn't get more Korean than this. Cute and adorable! Now the question is, do I go back to utilize this restaurant again? Maybe. As I found some other menu items quite intriguing if I think of some quick Korean street food again, this new location of Ugly Rice has most of it.
