Vibrant decor of this place is very enticing. Comfortable n colourful seating is a refreshing backdrop at Powell street. Budha status all over the place n artistic mandala on th wall is amazing. Food is indian taste dominant but very homely. Enjoyed having simple dal makhani and silk bhindi masala vegetable with simple homemade tawa roti. I couldn't ask for more as it felt like eating home cooked food. Do go and try the variety of cocktails n mocktails offerer here. Handpicked items on menu are for sure cooked with love and passion for cooking. Open kitchen n huge bar again decorated with budha face. Clean and spacious washrooms. Compartment seating already does social distancing. read more

Visiting from out of country with some friends and will absolutely be back to this place. Delicious and authentic food- highlights were the chicken tikka appetizer, daal makhani and coconut prawn curry. The cocktails were great, especially the cucumber mint one and the mojito. Service was topnotch and the ambience was lovely. Beautiful bar and lighting, great for cute photos. Loved how the kitchen was open so you can see into it, the bathrooms were super cool. The place was almost a little hole in the wall but once you're inside, your breath will drop. Cannot recommend enough, next time we're in Vancouver this place will definitely be on the itinerary. read more

Hi, This place is the worst neighbors, they are situated in a residential area with hundreds of people living around them. Although we have requested politely many times that they not turn on and blast their outside speakers, they keep doing it. My last call to them met with a rude lady telling me they can do what they want. We would request that people not support this business until they can become a good polite neighbor. read more

This place is very extra! Large space and I went on a weeknight an hour before closing so we were the only customers. It's not in the nicest part of town, but when you enter it doesn't feel that way. There are lots of Buddha statues, large seating areas and different styles of tables. There's a lot I liked about the ambiance but at the same time there was too much going on! I tried a cocktail and ordered their basil chicken tikka. The drinks took awhile to come. Since we were the only ones there I don't understand why. It was really weak as well. The chicken was good. The food isn't fusion, they have Indian dishes as well as other things but I wouldn't say it's French. I was expecting something more fusion. Large variety, would have to come back to try their mains. read more

Hidden gem! This place just opened and let me tell you, people are already talking about it! If you haven't eaten here, you are missing out! Decor- beautiful! There was a lot of love put in to create the feel of this place. It is easily one of the most beautiful restaurants I have been to! I am not going to ruin for you ... I highly recommend that you go see for yourselves. : ) Food- we had the chili shrimp appetizer, the lamb, goat, and tapioca pudding. I would order all of them again. Everything is organic and the blend of spices used for each dish was unbelievably tasty! When you can distinguish and taste all the spices at once, it's like a party in your mouth! If you like spicy, the food is on the spicy end- not burn-your-tastebuds spicy, but spicy. So, if you like your food mild, you might want to let them know so they can adjust to your taste. And the pudding was the best way to end the night- not too sweet and quite refreshing! The portions are good, so no need to worry. ; ) I don't know what else to say. This is an Indian French fusion restaurant, but we had mostly Indian dishes. I challenge anyone to bring me to an Indian restaurant and have me taste Indian dishes as good as this! read more

I celebrated my birthday here recently and had a wonderful evening full of tasty food, booze bevies and all my favorite people. Silk Lounge is a long and narrow, lounge style restaurant that makes for an amazing date night or special occasion venue. I very easily booked out the Lounge area (low tables and couch style seating) for my birthday and it was very cozy and social. My only issue with our space was the lack of leg room to navigate around people while trying to mingle. This place gets all the stars for ambiance alone; amazing!!! The decorations for Silk are superb and rather magical. A lot of thought and attention to fine detail went into the decor at Silk and I guarantee you will love it. It felt like being at a themed restaurant in Las Vegas or something. Silk Lounge is truly unique and stands out in the Vancouver sea of eaters. The food is pretty much amazing, with many vegetarian and Vegan option. Everything is locally sourced and organic!!!I I really appreciated the quality of the dishes as not a single dish was oily or greasy. Everything was very flavourful, fresh and inventive. I felt genuinely good about everything I ate. It just seemed healthier than what you usually expect from an Indian restaurant. I ordered the Prawns Mircha and although I shared, I secretly shed a tear each time someone munched on one of my tasty, spicy little morsels. I also ordered the Spinach Paneer, which was super interesting. It had quite a lovely and unique flavour that I think was cardamon spice? It was a different twist, but I very much enjoyed it. The Butter Chicken was also very yummy. I ordered medium and I didn't find it spicy at all. If you like a bit of spice, I would order it hot. If u want it hot, ask for extra spicy! They do not have naan bread, but they have an interesting selection of Tawa Roti breads. I tried the wholewheat and black Chana. I cannot wait to go Back. I must eat it all!!! Guys take your ladies here for a romantic date, she will love it. read more

Incredible dining experience. Silk Lounge is an oasis of bliss from the moment you approach the door from the street. You are then transported into another world once you pass the threshold. The decor is beyond perfect, every detail in place with great intention. I took pictures of everything! The selection of food and drink is outstanding, including a wide range of vegan and vegetarian dishes, and mostly organic, locally sourced. I really can't say enough about the quality of the food, the flavours, the balance, the attention to detail and presentation. They make your meal upon order, not in batches sitting all day. Hence you might leave yourself a bit more time than other restaurants, but they have great cocktails, and really, it would be a shame to rush this kind of experience. The standout dish for us was the " Silk Butter Chicken" on fettuccine. It's WOW the moment you smell it, and just heavenly as soon as you taste it. Top marks for atmosphere and overall experience. Will be telling friends about this place, and going back for more! read more

Atmosphere: Very dark and stylish and clearly they were aiming for something of a cross between a club feel, date night and just a nice evening out that you would like to bring someone special. Great color combinations and use of modern and traditional decor both done with balance and some taste. Customer service: Very very friendly and they made an effort with us. Price: It is a little on the high end side, more than I am used to for food of that culture, however, they are aiming for a certain theme and culture in a location that isn't economically forgiving but not unattainable but keep this in mind when coming in. Food: We had a wide assortment of shared dishes since we were there with a party of six. All made nicely with good combination of spices. read more

I went here with my son and husband for an early Saturday dinner. We made reservations, but they were not needed. Firstly, The atmosphere here is gorgeous! It looks like Anthropologie threw up, and I mean that in the best way possible. This warm, lush room with semi-private tables is precisely the kind of place you want to spend an evening. If I could decorate my house like this I would never leave it. With Amazon Prime, I wouldn't even need to. From the moment you approached the door, you knew that you were to be transported out of Vancouver to another place and time. The service at SILK is courteous and attentive. Kitchen delivers food in a timely manner, and you can tell it hasn't waited long to get to your table. The staff here love children, which continues to astonish us (children are seen as a nuisance in the USA). This kind of welcome behavior is part of the reason why we love Vancouver. The bartender initially gives me pause. My mojito was way watered down and I couldn't taste the Rum at all. Hubster's drink (the Silhouette) was SUPER sweet... Tasted like a gummy bear... Which was kinda awesome, but a touch too sweet for me. He seemed quite happy with it though. Despite this, we ordered another round of beverages and HOLY SMOKES... the alcohol is there, my friends. It was a little overemphasized, but I also asked them to leave out the agave after tasting my husband's drink, so the problem may be on me. Regardless, desired level of relaxation was achieved. Here are cliff notes on our food: APPETIZERS Grilled zucchini - - had great spice, but you are paying $10 for a single grilled zucchini and it seems excessively priced for what you receive. Chicken kabob is mixed with veg, shaped like a sausage and cut... Our Kiddo loved it but as an adult, I would say that it had mediocre flavor and was a little bit dry. Steak bites: very salty bites of tender beefy heaven. Could use about 25-50% less salt (and I'm a cortisol depleted salt loving mo-fo, así believe me, if it's too much for me, it's too much. MAINS Lamb vindaloo - lamb is exquisitely tender and it has a earthy flavor from the sauce. Absolutely wonderful. Lamb and spinach is pure silk in my mouth, complex flavor and solid medium level spice. This is worth trying. Black Chana roti has delightful charred flavor bits throughout but not excessive. It is dense enough to scoop up your meal and gives a layer of satisfaction from that lovely protein/starch combo found in beans. Of note, a second one appeared as I was finishing my meal and my hubby had two come out at the same time so something happened back there in the kitchen. The Chai comes unsweetened with sugar on the side... HOORAY! It is TASTY. Expect notes of fennel or star anise (I am not so cultured as to recognize the flavor difference between the two yet)... the fennel and the tannins in the tea make their Chai an excellent post - meal digestive. Despite some initial reservations, Silk totally came through. We have them on our short list of places to return to the next time we escape Trumplandia. Check them out! read more

This is absolutely the most gorgeous restaurant that I have been to in Vancouver! The ambiance is romantic and inviting... transforms you into another world. The attention to detail is stunning and each part of the restaurant from the entrance to the bar to the bathrooms have a magical feel! The food is prepared with lists of love, isn't oily and is very flavorful!!! To be honest taste like traditional Indian food prepared in India.. has the authenticity, aromas and flavors that you can't find in any other place. Be patient as the owner mentioned they want their patrons to have a relaxed experience and not feel rushed. To take time to enjoy the ambiance and their company. Price is a little higher but quality is there so I'm willing to pay. Also no naan but tawa roti which is delicious and traditional of northern india A few recommendations: Though the servers are really nice, they didn't come back to check on us as often as we'd like. I think the owner mentioned they do that to make your meal feel interrupted and that's totally fine however I would train the servers to understand body cues as well as watch people's body language and plates. To anticipate their needs if that's concept they're going for. That is my biggest recommendation! And have a jug of water left on the table :). We want to see this business thrive... took 4 years to build so I would recommend to the owner to have some events to promote their business... wonderful place for private events and special fundraisers so promote that read more

Looking for a truly magical experience? You may have heard about this new restaurant but if you haven't tried it then you are nuts! Silk Lounge in Gastown is a stunningly gorgeous setting with French and Indian style cuisine that will melt in your mouth. This hidden gem is truly special and unique to Vancouver. I've never been to another restaurant that has so many fascinating pieces of decor, lighting, seating, chandeliers, and more. You can expect to find authentic Indian cuisine with the perfect amount of spice and flavor to keep you coming back for more. Now for the food and drinks! We had a chance to try a couple drinks off the cocktail menu and some appetizers, and let me tell you... I would have licked the plate if I was at home, but seriously, I wiped every single plate clean, not a speck of spice or sauce was left, it was seriously that good! For drinks we tried the Blue Pehool and the Grapefruit Thyme. I loved the blue drink, it tasted like heaven in a cup, it was a vibrant blue and made with coconut milk and lychee. For food we had several different dishes, from the steak bites that came with a brandy demi-glaze, to the Kumbh Kaafi Mirch which are mushroom caps with ginger, garlic, peppercorns and all the deliciousness you could imagine. I've never in my life ordered mushroom caps before, have I been missing out? Or are these just little morsels of heaven? We had Prawns, so much fun watching them prepare this one, with the flames! The Tandoori Halibut was so delicate, it will melt in your mouth, so perfectly cooked, and the chicken was obviously a fav as well. I would suggest this restaurant for any special occasion. Perfect for birthday, anniversaries, weddings, runway modelling (yes they've done it!), book the whole space and wow your guests, or bring your lover and show off your knowledge of finding the hidden gem (your welcome). I would suggest you ask questions about the decor while your there, let them wow you with the incredible efforts they went through to create such a beautiful space. You won't find any added sugar, preservatives, or modified ingredients. This is 100% made from scratch in the kitchen using amazing recipes. Gary the owner was so sweet as well, looking forward to our next visit, would love to make it a regular occurrence! read more

I've just came back home from dining at Silk with a guest from abroad. We both thoroughly enjoyed our food. We only ordered main course, which was just enough. My friend ordered a meat based meal, I am vegan. I didn't know you can cook broccoli so deliciously! The service was excellent, staff very friendly, meals reasonably priced. I appreciate the organic ingredients that went into the meal, although they don't state it on the menu, which I think is a miss. We even had a chance to meet the cook, the magician behind our meal, whom we personally thanked while being there. It was my first time and I would definitely want to come back. read more

Awful, I had a reservation for 7:30 for two and we couldn't even get to the door with all the other people waiting who also had reservations. At 7:45, one of the staff came out to tell us that every reservation was running 30 minutes behind. The food was amazing, the decor absolutely stunning, but the experience I felt, was profound. Silk Lounge was a very humbling experience for me, to see how much love and care was put into the dishes created by the chef and his team, I was very moved. This restaurant is the brainchild of a very unique concept, 4 years of love and care went into the preparation of the experience envisioned by a man and his family who wanted to create meals with love and care. All organic ingredients, prepared to order. Reservations only at this fine establishment, as this way they can anticipate how much to prep for service. What you see isn't exactly what you get, you receive so much more! read more

We came here last night to celebrate a birthday and were again blown away. How this place isn't packed is beyond me. The attention to detail, the quality of ingredients.... even got a private tour of the kitchen from the owner and he showed us all his hand ground spices, meticulously chosen organic produce, highest quality meats, and I might add every inch of this place is spotless! Puts my home kitchen to shame! You go here to have a feast for the senses... for one it's drop dead gorgeous 4 1/2 years to create, it's spotless, and the food is made with love~ which takes a few minutes longer. Love love love!! Loved the apps they served along with the mango cheesecake dessert! I am always hesitant of getting cheesecake because they are easily ruined but this cheescake was everything and more. Mango was real and not artificial. The vibe is very classy and modern. Ordered on Uber eats. Was excited because they had cauliflower rice and keto options. They only sent one of the things I ordered - the other two items never came nor did they contact me to explain or see if I wanted something else instead. The only thing I got was the butter chicken sans the cauliflower rice. Instead they sent regular rice that I had explicitly said I did not want. The sauce was good but the chicken was so dry and hard. Very disappointing since not only was my order screwed up so was the one dish I received. read more

Honest review. crap, rip off . I went last week there .The staff had no clue what they doing. My order arrived after almost 50 min.My roti was chewy like gum and curry had a nasty smell.Cheap wine at expensive price. Overpriced. I am half French and i know what is French food. A guy was saying the chandelier was made by a designer but the same Chandelier i saw in Toronto at a Chinese lighting store made in China. hmmm If i could i will give zero star to this Indian/French :)) restaurant. The front door of this restaurant is unique . When we walked in the bar area was empty. The decor is colourful and eclectic. There was NO wine list!!!! They have a big cocktail list but no bar tender. We never saw any evidence of anything French or fusion . They did offer pasta ( not a French dish) and Italian wine. The server was young and not well trained. He was not familiar with the menu and couldn't grasp the concept of food allergies . The table next to where we were seated had dirty dishes on it for most of our stay ( which was long because everything was very slow to arrive ) . We ordered 5 appetizers ( between 3 people) and 3 of them had the same presentation including the pink sauce. The portions were small so we ordered 2 mains to share . The mains were very small . The prices were high. This place has potential to be a good restaurant but needs a lot of adjustments to get there. Ex: print a wine list read more

Fantastic food and amazing atmosphere, it's well worth the trip to eat here. Area of town is not very good but it's safe, restaurant a bit hidden. Staff was excellent. Walking through the ornate doorway and past the beautiful fabrics - I commented that I feel like I need my passport. Full marks for design and space. No red in sight as you are enveloped in teal and silver surrounded by luxurious eye candy. We went for a girls night on International Women's day and there were 12 of us. The cocktail list was on the sweet sounding side and nothing appealed. I had previewed the menu and decided to have the Tandoori Halibut only to be informed they have no fish available. We decided to order a bunch of small items and eat family style. The food was delicious, full of flavour and presented well. The downside is that it was not busy and it took 25+ min to get our beverage orders taken (after we asked). Then we had to request they take our food orders. We needed to keep flagging down the many servers to get more beverages. The food took anywhere from 30 min to 1.5 hours to arrive. It was boggling because there were two other tables of 4-6 besides ourselves. We could see three kitchen staff in addition to the four front of house team. In the end one of our party had to get her meal to go. She asked several times and they kept saying it was coming. When it came time to pay I noticed they added extra drinks to my bill and then insisted I had them. I wasn't the only one with mysterious additional items. Everything is in place to be an incredible dining option. It's my hope that they shake up the staff and work out these silly issues. Pros: ambiance and food quality. Cons: lengthy experience read more

Great decor and delicious food. They cook fresh and from scratch so don't expect your food served really quickly. When you get it and see how the spices are uniquely added but not all blended in one taste you'll see this is a great restaurant for food and ambiance. You may want to ask for a high table. EXEMPLARY! In service, ambiance, and food!!! I had my 30th birthday celebration here last week. It is EVERYTHING I had wished it would be. Shahbaz, the host manager, had answered my prayers and graciously provided seats for all 40 of my guests. I was quite busy entertaining my guests, but was able to try a lot of their different foods through them. I enjoy trying out fusion foods and they were adventurously delicious! Not to mention, the drinks I was forced to shoot (as you would if you were the birthday celebrant) were unexpectedly yummy! The bartenders put on a good show too. I honestly felt like a princess living in Taj Mahal (probably incorrect) with all the mesmerizing decor. Truly instagram worthy. The whole night, Shahbaz and the staff did everything to make this a truly unforgettable experience for me. I was even able to meet the humble owner who was working in the kitchen that night.
