    Chicken Lamprais

my first time trying Sri Lankan food and I was not disappointed! This small hole in the wall spot brings a homey vibe and a home cooked meal feel with the friendly owner as the server. We ordered crab curry, chicken lamprais (the banana leaf dish), mutton rolls, and hoppers (appas). Everything was flavorful and delicious but hands down my favorite was the lamprais and I can't wait to go back just for it!

Sigiri was our first taste of Sri Lankan cuisine. When you step inside this unassuming restaurant in a tiny strip mall, you are immediately hit by the enticing aromas of the food that awaits. We went on a Saturday night, and we were the only people eating in the dining room. Normally, this would make us apprehensive but there was a very steady stream of orders being picked up. Maybe because this seems to be a predominantly takeout restaurant, the service wasn't really the best. However, he was very pleasant which makes up for a lot. We ordered much more food than necessary, but when trying a new place I like to really sample a menu. We ordered chicken lamprais, spicy crab curry, string hopper with lamb, and aappa. The chicken lamprais comes wrapped in a steaming banana leaf. Inside are very tender chunks of chicken, flavorful rice, hard boiled egg, and eggplant. This was divine. Highly recommend. The crab curry was delicious, but a little hard to eat. I thought that the shells would be a bit smashed to get to the meat easier but they were not. Still really tasty. The string hopper was very good and unique. It is like broken pieces of rice vermicelli sautéed with vegetable. We chose lamb for our protein. The lamb pieces were generous and I'm a sucker for any noodles. Aappa were like a crepe cup. They were light and delicious, particularly with the coconut sombal. One cup comes with a nice runny egg. Finally, I strongly recommend the hot fresh ginger tea. It comes in a small pot with milk and sugar on the side. The ginger left a lovely tingle on the palate. I definitely recommend this restaurant.

Sigiri is a Sri Lankan restaurant in Edison, NJ showcasing flavorful and spicy traditional cuisine. For dinner we had the Kotthu roti with lamb, chicken lamprais, lamb curry, and pol roti with lentils. Everything was packed full of robust flavor, and even though we got everything mild, spicy enough to enduce sweat. For dessert we enjoyed the Watalappam, a coconut custard pudding spiced with cardamon. Overall the meal was excellent, and there wasn't one dish we didn't love. The service was also incredible as the waiter brought over educational materials to teach us about the history of the restaurant's namesake historical site of Sigiriya, an ancient palace /monastery in Sri Lanka. Sigiri is a gem of a family owned restaurant and can't recommend it enough.

The lamprais here is really good. Possibly the best that I've had in N America. It has a generous amount of ingredients (most other places that I've been usually consist mainly of rice). Each of ingredients was flavorful too. The chicken was quite juicy. I did end up eating the whole thing, but was pretty stuffed after. Price is fairly reasonable @ $15. Accept credit card. Parking lot available in front.

Stoped over for lunch as we were driving through NJ. Small space for dining in. Authentic Sri Lankan food. Lampris was ok. Definitely loved the vegetarian string hopper kottu.

We have been to Sigiri in east village a couple of times before but this is our first time here. We had the Chicken lamprais and chicken kothu roti. The food is a good as the one in east village. It is spicy and very flavorful. We have a very good tolerance for spice but felt medium spicy was very spicy for us.So it is better to go mild.No problems with the food. However we were seated in a corner table and mot comfortable at all.I would like the place to be a bit cleaner. The service is very very slow and you have to keep reminding them every ten minutes or so.The people working here are not attentive at all.

I honestly don't know if Sigiri is authentic but I'm going to say the food is pretty good regardless. String Hopper Koththu and the Fish Rolls are great dishes that I would order again for sure. I also enjoyed the Chicken Lamprais and the Curry Crab as well but a little less so. The String Hopper Koththu is a delightful dish with soft textures filled with veggies and protein of your choosing. It has a slight heat. I like this dish so much that I immediately ordered another for the next day given that Sri Lankan restaurants aren't numerous and I wasn't sure when I'd be back in the area. It kept nicely for lunch the next day. The fried wrapped Fish Rolls were equally delightful. I did enjoy this and would probably make sure I got this the next time I visited. The Curry Crab was filled with much crab and looked great but I found the curry to be slightly watery. The crab was good although it was a bit messy to eat at the table. I needed like 4 napkins to cleanup afterwards. This is definitely a dish to be eaten with your hands. I also like the Chicken Lamprais mostly. It was slightly under seasoned. I didn't really feel need to order this dish again. My waiter was super friendly and helpful. He did spend some time talking to us about the Manhattan, NY Sigiri restaurant which we were told is owned by a different owner. Overall, an enjoyable experience I'd try again.

Loved the food! Crab curry is the most delicious. Chicken Lamprais is very unique, cooked in banana leaves. The dessert is a variation of flan cooked with jaggery and coconut milk. Tasty blend of spices is absolutely worth trying!

Wonderful Sunday lunch buffet with family and friends! The buffet is constantly stocked with fresh hot food with multiple varieties. Today they had 2 types of rice, lentils, beans, chicken curry, crab curry (so good!!!), and so many more. Above all the service was impeccable. Our server, Suren, was super friendly and made our meal so enjoyable. He cleared away the plates quickly and always topped off our water. The only thing they should do is expand!

Sigiri is a good restaurant for Srilankan food. We got mutton Kottu and Chicken Lamprais. Both these dishes came out pretty quickly and tasted okay. Their portions were decent and go for a person. Overall a good restaurant to try if you wanted to try a new cuisine.

Fish & Mutton, just forgot to take a pic from the start. I was 5 when I thought picture

Spicy Srilankan (Indianish) food but much better than many other so called authentic Indian restaurants in the area.

When the community migrated to Nagpur in 1877, their food followed -- spreading through the tradesfolk and mill workers who embraced its bold flavors. Today, Saoji is considered the signature cuisine of Nagpur: intensely spiced, unapologetically hot, and built around powerful, roasted masalas. Tonight we ate at Nagpuri Saoji in Voorhees (they also have a location in Iselin), and these two spots are reportedly the only places in the U.S. where you can experience this cuisine in its full, blazing glory. To Start We began with sabudana vada -- the classic Maharashtrian fritter made from tapioca pearls, mashed potatoes, peanuts, and spices. Served piping hot and impossibly crisp outside with a tender interior, they came with two chutneys and were absolutely sublime. Alongside that was goat sukka, a dry-style mutton preparation associated with the Mangalore and Udupi regions, with spice influences tracing back to Goa and even Arab and Turkish traders. Coriander, fennel, cumin, black peppercorns, and fenugreek give it depth and warmth. It was bold, savory, and incredibly flavorful. The Curries I ordered chicken kala masala curry, and it was deeply earthy, nutty, and robustly savory. "Kala" means "black" in Marathi -- referring both to the color and to the roasted spice blend itself. Cumin, coriander, cloves, cinnamon, stone flower, coconut, sesame seeds, and chillies are roasted and ground into a dark, complex masala that lingers beautifully on the palate. We also ordered Goat Handi, with tender meat in a velvety, aromatic gravy, and a Malwani goat curry, made with Malvani masala from the Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra -- a spice blend that balances heat with coastal warmth and depth. Rice, plain naan, and indulgent Amul cheese naan rounded out the meal. Dessert We finished with Sitafal Rasmalai (custard apple-infused rasmalai) and Jamun Rabdi -- both creamy, fragrant, and perfect against the lingering spice. A Few Notes Like much traditional Asian cooking, the meat dishes are cooked on the bone -- so eat mindfully. And if you request "hot," they mean hot. This is not toned-down spice; this is the real deal. I was thrilled to try dishes from India that I've never made before. Saoji cuisine is bold, unapologetic, and absolutely delicious -- and I'll definitely be adding some of these flavors to my home repertoire. If you have the opportunity to try this cuisine -- do it.

I know it's popular for the saoji chicken but being a vegetarian I had to stick to their veggie options. I visited this place for dinner and they were out of a lot of things. I got the shegaon kachori, Misaal Pav, Tarri Poha and Sol kadhi. Shegaon kachori was the best option amongst the lot. It was super crispy and the filling was nice as well. Tarri Poha was a let down. The tarri tasted weird so it ruined the entire dish. Same tarri was present in the misaal too, so this dish was ruined too. Sol kadhi was average. The service was fast and the ambience is okay-ish. Honestly, would not recommend this place for their vegetarian options!
