We love this place!! My family is from the east coast and we're all in Washington missing some go to foods that we haven't found out here. Sidewalk's BEC/EC bagel sandwiches are like back home!! The best I've had in the PNW. We've been coming for years and plan to continue - when we have visitors from out of town we bring them here. Not just for the breakfast sandwiches but the rest of the menu is outstanding. I don't want to leave a bad review because this place is great and I'm hoping it can be fixed but I can't find contact info other than a phone # (I called and conveyed this too) and did want to reach out and let the owners know: over the past few weeks we've ordered BEC/EC bagels on two separate occasions and there has been a noticeable decrease in the bagel quality. Idk if there is a change in recipe or supplier or process, but the whole family agrees there is something off. The bagels are too soft and fall apart and the flavor is weird - almost like a weird bun instead of a bagel... we hope that can get fixed!! I'm happy to delete this once the owners see it! We really love coming here and want Sidewalk to do well! read more

$25 for a sandwich, water, and tip. Seemed a bit pricey but it's a solid sandwich and great service. I split the sando with my sister and it was filling. The employee even threw in a free bag of chips the bread was a bit too hard but I'd def come back to try some other options. We sat outside and the sandwich was out in about 5 minutes. Best spur of the moment decision to have lunch here...Decent array of menu options for breakfast or lunch... The generous serving of beet/kale salad was delicious and filling ( and down the hatch before I snapped a photo! A friend and I each split a bagel with cream cheese and a ham/jalapeño sandwich-fresh and so tasty! Prices are very reasonable and the service friendly. Its a fairly quaint and small space but there is outside seating . The kitchen and floors are sparking clean. Lots of foot traffic ... looking for ice cream, espresso, a cider...and enough take out orders worth mentioning! Close to the Farmers Market, and the waterfront. Parking M-F mighr be a challenge but 2 spots are reserved for takeout! You'll love this little cafe! read more

Our experience, not indicative of everyone's experience. Keep this in mind. Our visit consisted of two Clam Chowder Soups. The 2 stars are for the kind employees and unique ambiance. The Clam of Chowder soup was very disappointing. Was as bland as I could imagine. We chose two 16oz in plates. The temp was okay, hot enough to cool down within 2 minutes of being served, which was great. Tasted more like a potato soup. Not worth the $$$ Costco has 12$ two tubs of 16oz Clam Chowder. The value is far better and the flavor is much more acceptable. read more

Incredible spot. Think we visit once a week. Love Christie, incredible chef. Their beet salad is my favorite in Olympia and my husband usually gets whatever their special is. Wonderful soups. Key Lime Pie is my go-to from Sidewalk Cafe on Capital Way just south of the Oly Farmer's Market. Tart & zingy with lime zest giving the filling a boost. Not sugary sweet as is the usual direction most places take their KLP. The lime flavor gets front center stage all to itself, which makes theirs an enjoyable diversion from the saccharine overload incurred by usual pieces of KLP. Pie filling is also not the typical light pudding texture. Rather, this is a dense, nearly cheesecake like filling that makes a slice of this zippy goodness a seriously substantial dessert. Buttery graham cracker crust is standard fare in taste & texture. Price with typical tip comes in a hair over a fiver, so in line with key lime pie I've found elsewhere around the country. But those others lacked the heft of Sidewalk Cafe's pie by a fair margin. The gentleman manning the order window is open and friendly. Maybe someday I will get around to trying some of their other menu options. But I won't be betting any of my key lime pie money on it. read more

Have you ever had a stuffed quiche? Not just a quiche with lots of ingredients but a generous slice with thick tasty crust and layers of fresh ingredients that you can see stuffed between the potato crust and a creamy thick layer of egg and a beautiful baked top! Yumm! I will go back just for the quiche. My husband got the pastrami minus all the additions that typically come on it (he's a meat cheese only guy), I got the daily special which was a bologna and olive pimento cheese panini, it was way to salty for me so I left it behind, it consisted of a layer of grilled bread, the signature orange colored pimento cheese, green and kalamata olives, then bologna, all the layers have their own salt which unfortunately was too much for me and probably most. The mac salad was very plain but creamy, its similar to an island type mac salad which I like and would order again as a side, then there is the creamy and delicious clam chowder with an herby dill and cream base, the chowder was not too buttery, thick or gloopy, the chowder was packed with potatoes, clams and dill, I mention dill twice because its significant and some don't care for dill. For dessert they have the local Olympic Mountain ice cream, great prices, I believe we paid about $5 for two plus big scoops of chocolate and raspberry ribbon in a nice light and crunchy waffle cone. EatDrinkandSeeOly finally pushed me over the edge to try this place! AND IT WAS AMAZING!!! Me and a buddy went the Sloppy Joe and clam chowder route. We both agree, 10/10 would eat again! There's a marriage of flavor going on in that sandwich that's perfect, he really knows how to balance the sweet and sour aspects of the pickles/dressing/coleslaw with the rye bread. Just a perfect sloppy bite every time. And the chowder is some of the best I've had, very chunky, full of all the good stuff! A quaint non-chain place not far from the water, with excellent sandwiches. Specials of the day also include house made soups. A Parisian reggae radio station is the regular soundtrack adding a layer of ambiance. Seems to be open for lunch / afternoons only and not on Mondays or Tuesdays (not sure about the weekends). They are killing me!! The strawberry-rhubarb pie was to die for! That, and a nice cuppa. Perfection. Lots of quality sandwich and salads (lest I use the term "artisan" ?). Some selections too for that late breakfast as well. I do wish there were a couple more veggie sandwich options, though. Lots of on-street parking in the area. No vagrants to step over or deal with around capital and fourth/fifth avenues either. Safe. Although there has been a cafe at this location for years, I understand there are new owners. Why did I wait so long to try this place? We had the BLT and the meatloaf sandwich. Oh my god. The BLT: perfectly toasted bread, generous mayo, piles of shatteringly crispy bacon, fresh lettuce and tomato, PERFECT. The meatloaf sandwich: generous amount of meatloaf (sooo filling) and the most delicious onions. Pickles on the side and chips. There are not enough dog friendly places to get great food. The staff is so friendly. They brought water out for the boys and it allowed me to enjoy my lunch without having to leave my FRENCHIES alone. The patrons didn't mind dogs here either. I would come back again!!!! read more

I'm a huge Reuben fan and decided to try their beet version. OMG! Everything about it was fantastic - the well seasoned beets, kraut, cheese and dressing. I am sad to leave this review as this was my second time at this restaurant and the first time was absolutely great. The second time over this weekend was another story. My family and I went in to order sandwiches around 2:00, the store said it closed at 3:00. We got there and there were so many things that they were out of that we couldn't get what we wanted even when we changed two or three times to different items. We eventually settled on three things and while my salami grinder was great, the rest of my family's food had issues. Haphazardly put together or missing some items on the sandwiches we chose. It didn't help when one of the waitresses came out and said I'm so sorry about what's going on but there's just no communication between myself and the kitchen today. Will probably go back, but will give it some time to see if they can sort things out. read more

If I could deduct the last star to provide an honest review I would. If you have a penchant for sandwiches where there are no ingredients and being yelled at in the middle of service by the owner then this is the place for you. Who can run a business with no ingredients? Wouldn't be me. Let alone make up for the sold out options on the menu by yelling at your customers? Making up for messing up a sandwich with a side of ketchup? Restaurant nightmare. At the bare minimum remind your wait staff they are part of the hospitality industry. Yelling at paying customers is the opposite. Lastly, don't sell things you can't make and then get angry when people ask questions about what you offered? Also, the creamer in the coffee smelled so bad and curdled. Sooo not a good look. How is this place safe to remain open? Yikes. read more

Sidewalk Cafe was a place Steve and I went to the other day in Olympia. We were casually walking around downtown and decided that this was a good place to go as any. We had it bookmarked on Yelp so it was worth giving a try! I got a Tuna Melt kind of panini which was delicious! It had some mighty tasty bread and an lemon kind of oil to the tuna which made the sandwich wonderful! I am usually not too into tuna either but I figured I would give it a try. I was feeling experimental! I also had some greens for my side which was refreshing! We also got a slice of apple pie which hit the spot on our day in downtown Olympia! This lunch place was tasty and fun! We would go back for more of those yummy paninis! read more

For classic club sandwiches, Sidewalk is one of my favorite spots. It edges out 5th Avenue, which can taste generic at times. They have excellent bread, some of which has a nice nutty flavor. Ours always come hot off the grill and beautifully crisped. There are more unique offerings, like the grilled salmon club with lemon caper aioli. They're a small operation that uses fresh meats and veggies, so there's always a danger of the good stuff running out fast. Go bright and early. read more
