Overall, the food was good. Putting it at a 4 both for food and service. Enjoyed the live piano music, particularly the classical version of Apache (jump on it, jump on it). Eclectic vibes. Food: eggs for the eggs Benedict and the spicy chicken Maple was either overcooked or was sitting under a heating lamp for too long. The cherries on the waffle were not very flavorful. Waffles are thinner than most restaurants, but I thought they tasted great otherwise. The spicy chicken Maple actually had some spice and was a good balance, not too spicy. Service- it took about 45 minutes to get our food, given that others who arrived 15 minutes after us were served first (same selection of waffles), I think our table was forgotten. I wasn't sure if I should make this a 3 or 4 star review. Ultimately, I decided to give them 4 stars because the food did taste good. When we first entered we had to wait around a bit to be seated. They did not look busy (they had enough customers, but also enough tables). They only had 2 servers so I think the issue was maybe understaffed? The space was pretty spacious, but kind of dimly lit for a waffle place. Overall, once the service got started it went pretty fast and efficient. The waffles were good; I liked the crunchy and chewy texture (maybe some would not like it). I'm genuinely a little confused about the hype surrounding this place and how it has earned "best restaurant" recognition because, food-wise, this was one of the more mediocre breakfast experiences I've had in a while. Being downtown, parking is already challenging. There's no convenient lot, so prepare to circle around and hunt for street parking. I was fortunate I found one spot in front. Once inside, though, I can see where some of the appeal comes from. The restaurant is BEAUTIFUL. The intricate decorations, dim lighting, and rustic/modern aesthetic definitely give it that trendy, upscale brunch spot vibe. But maybe I've been to enough pretty restaurants too many times because the moment I saw the interior, part of me thought, "Oh, we're about to pay for the aesthetic, aren't we?" And... yeah. Kind of did.. We walked in with a party of 7, and I will absolutely give credit where it's due: service was excellent. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, attentive, and accommodating. The drink menu was also probably the best part of my experience. I ordered a steamed latte and REALLY enjoyed it. If I were rating just the service, atmosphere, and drinks, we'd be having a very different conversation. Unfortunately, we came here to eat too. I had looked at the menu beforehand, so I already knew waffles were basically the main character here. I'm not knocking them for a limited menu when that's literally their concept. What I wasn't expecting was for the actual waffles to look so underwhelming compared to the photos online and on the menu. If you're imagining big, thick, fluffy restaurant waffles... lower those expectations. These are much thinner waffles. That works fine when they're paired with eggs, potatoes, and other sides, but ordering one by itself is another story. My husband ordered the House Waffle for $12, and when it arrived, all we could think was L'eggo My Eggo. Twelve dollars for a waffle that looked like it could've come out of my freezer at home is wild. Needless to say, it wasn't particularly filling for him either. I ordered the Classic Breakfast Waffle, and it was mostly fine. I finished my plate, but there's a difference between finishing something because it's delicious and finishing something because, well, you paid for it. Both the flavor and my appetite afterward landed firmly in "satisfactory" territory. Bacon was thin, but poached eggs were good enough. The hash brown potato waffle, however? THAT was delicious. Easily my favorite food item of the meal besides my latte. Unfortunately, it was also fairly small. They also seem to be very committed to poached eggs here. Not necessarily a complaint or something I'd deduct points for, but definitely something to know if poached eggs aren't your thing. I didn't see any options for eggs made any other way on the menu. The rest of my family didn't exactly care for the food either. My mother didn't like the scent of the food, my son wasn't a fan of how warm the black cherries were with his waffle, my husband was thoroughly unimpressed with his lonely little classic waffle, and I left nowhere near as full as I expected considering how much money we had just spent feeding seven people. That's ultimately where this place lost me. I can accept smaller portions. I can accept a specialty menu. I can even accept higher prices when the quality makes me understand WHY I'm paying them. But when you combine small portions + mediocre food + upscale pricing, the math stops mathing for me. Three stars because the restaurant itself is gorgeous, the service was genuinely excellent, and my latte and hash brown potato waffle deserve the credit. But the actual breakfast (the reason we even came) was far too underwhelming for the price. Maybe I'm missing whatever everyone else is seeing, but this one was a "glad I tried it once" experience for me. Amazing gf waffle spot in downtown oly. The people, the vibes, the food...i love it all. They also have live music which would have been amazing to hear. We had the breakfast waffle and the lox waffle. I also had a side of poached eggs. Everything was seasoned and cooked well. I loved that you can order your poached eggs soft med or hard. Waffles are better than pancakes. Came for weekend lunch and there was a 30 min wait for 2. We just walked around the city while we waited since they use text notifications for the waitlist. The inside is cozy but also pretty large. There was live music playing when we were there which was super vibey. They have a little corner in the back that has clothes and stuff for sale, and a little video of bob ross projected onto the wall. I really liked the ambiance. Service was super warm and friendly. The "Seattle freeze" is definitely just a Seattle thing haha. I ordered the turkey pesto waffle sandwich with a side of loaded baked potato hash browns. The sandwich was not bad. I thought it was a bit on the drier side and could've use more pesto, but still good flavor. The waffle is gluten free but I really couldn't tell. It's also a bit sweet, which made me wish I got a sweet waffle. The hash brown was definitely the star. The top and sides were crispy, and loaded potato flavors really came through. Just. Very. Average. You will always wait at least 25 minutes, so make a reservation if you can. Waffles and acai bowls are pretty much their only jam--but they offer many types. Portions are small and service is always slow (likely because they do not have a full kitchen and they are always way behind when it gets busy). Loaded hash browns (think squashed bake potato patty with bacon and cheese) are tasty. Add five strips of crispy bacon and two very small poached (the only way they serve them) eggs and half of a very small waffle and you get their $22 Classic breakfast! Espresso beverages were great, but extra slow. Back of the restaurant is all black (walls, drapes, napkins, tables..) which is weird club vibe for breakfast. What a great place! We made reservations in advance 10/10 recommend doing that. We got there an waited maybe 2 minutes before being seated. There was a cute little sign that had my name on it on our table. Our waiter was fantastic, very friendly and helpful. We ordered to tropical mimosas the classic breakfast and a strawberry almond waffle. The food was 10:10 Best Waffles I've had and I love myself some waffles. Now to be fair I had the fancy waffle and actually ended up liking my husbands standard maple syrup butter waffle over my strawberry one. The loaded hashbrowns were also freaken amazing! The atmosphere is very inviting, good amount of seating, art on the walls and there was a piano player with live music! Prices are higher but fair for the amount of food you get and quality of food was outstanding , bill was a little over $80 not including tip. Keep in mind we had 2 drinks as well. The only drawback is the location with parking. We had to drive around a lot to find a space and when we did the pay to park was not working correctly, so we were a little stressed we'd get a ticket, also the homeless people outside were really really bad that day. Yummy waffle! I was skeptical of a gluten free waffle but these were good and moist with a light chewy mochi texture. I got the smoked salmon one and I was also skeptical of the hot tomato on it, but it turned out to go nicely with the salmon and waffle. A few people I went with got salads and those looked excellent and fresh too. The downsides were that it was pricey lunch in that there wasn't really a meal under $24 on the menu. Some of the sweet waffles that I would personally consider more of a snack were a little less though. And nothing came with a side I would expect, like hash browns with a breakfast dish for example. Also there were no inherently vegan options other than sides (you could order a salad without the cheese and bacon though). It was fun to try with a group but probably not somewhere I'd go again unless others really wanted to, but I could see it being a more frequent spot if you love waffles and are gluten free. My cousin who has celiac was in town so I decided to try and find a place for us to have lunch. I came across The Leaning Maple and it looked like the perfect place to try. We went during the week so it wasn't too busy which was a plus. It had a pretty chill atmosphere but I could see it getting busy and loud on the weekends. I ordered the Monte Cristo with the Soup of the Day which was a loaded baked potato. My cousin got the turkey pesto with the soup. We both agreed that the soup, we could absolutely devour an entire bowl of! It was so delicious I absolutely loved my waffle as well and would get it again, but would also love to try some of the other options too. The Leaning Maple is a gluten free waffle place. Everything is waffle shaped. My husband ordered the waffle Philly cheesesteak and he did not like it at all unfortunately. I ordered (not pictured) their classic breakfast with the loaded hashbrown. The loaded hashbrown was yummy and the classic waffles were good. I also ordered a caramel apple lotus which was really good! I will say the food is overpriced for what it is. I agree with other reviews that there are too many tables in the dining area. This spot is definitely worth checking out! There was about a 30 minute wait, but the host takes your phone number so you can walk around downtown a bit. Prices are a bit high, but the food is definitely worth it. The sweet menu had a more options for vegetarian, however, I got the Eggs Benedict Hash brown waffle, which comes with ham, and I was able to ask the ham to be removed to make it vegetarian friendly. The food was so delicious, I'm eager to return. The seating inside is a a little cramped, but not uncomfortably so. There was a piano player there, which was really nice, but a bit loud if sat next to it. I would warn about the air inside though. The ventilation in the building could use some improvement, as it was pretty smokey inside from the griddle. Overall, a great spot for brunch! read more

First. This place is awesome BUT needs to get better ventilation! I ordered the banana Nutella waffle. It came without Nutella and as soon as the server (who was very nice and helpful) brought it to my table, he asked, did you ask for no Nutella? And I said, ... no, so he took it back and they drizzled Nutella all over it. It was good. My husband ordered their take on a Monte Cristo waffle-wich. It was pretty good; it wasn't deep-fried and it could've used more jelly and powdered sugar. The faux-mosas were excellently overpriced juice, but it made me feel fancy. There was live piano which was awesome! The only downside is they need to get the ventilation going; it was smoky inside from the cooking and I could smell it all over me when we left. Blech. Once seated we were able to order quickly then we waited for about an hour to get our food. The chairs are metal, small and not very comfortable. If I could give this ZERO stars, I would. EXTREMELY over priced food which tasted like it was all just heated up and served from a box. 22-26$ for a waffle which had barely any toppings and was soggy. Our drinks took a million years to get to our table and the waiter acted like he didn't want to be there not to mention like I didn't see half the staff wash their hands even once. Now I gave them the benefit of the doubt and recently retried this place and it was still extremely underwhelming from the food to the staff. I'd stay away from here as ihop had better food and that's saying something! Just a tip, skip this place and walk around the corner to the spar where you will actually pay for a good meal. My new favorite breakfast place, hands down. I am new the world of wheat avoidance, and the struggle is real to find food that I can eat and enjoy with the other half. This place is hopping every time we've been- it pleases the wheat avoiders and the lucky folks who aren't. The waffles are cra I spy and delicious, they use tea maple syrup without up charging you for it. The hashbrowns are also made it a waffle iron and are perfect every time. They have a live piano player, at least every weekend we've been. The service can be slow, and there is often a wait if you don't have reservations, but the kids all seem to be stranger-things kid look alikes and they're all very pleasant. One small complaint is every time we've been it seems to be that they have just burned a batch of waffles and the place is smoky, which does also tend to make your clothes smell like greasy smoke. read more

This restaurant made my soul sing! The ambiance is top notch with cozy coffee house music playing, plants, pristine tables, cozy feel good items for sale, and a quiet hum about the place. The servers are attentive, kind, and helpful. We aren't big coffee drinkers but Lizzie was able to suggest perfect drinks for our personal tastes. This was our first time eating at the Leaning Maple. What a delight! The place was full on a Saturday at 11am with live piano music and great atmosphere. We were greeted warmly & seated right away. Coffee was good although mine wasn't very hot. Our server was friendly & knowledgeable. The kitchen is fully gluten free and the waffles were amazing - light and fluffy and the perfect consistency to hold all the breakfast ingredients on top. I came here a couple of times while visiting family and it was wonderful. So nice to eat somewhere with a 100% gluten free kitchen so I knew whatever I got was celiac safe. I had the house waffle and side of bacon and they were soooo good, it tasted the same as a regular excellent waffle lol. Price is amazing considering the portions, at least for me. I was served by Savanna the first time and Andy the second and they were both great. I would highly recommend it especially if you have celiac or a gluten sensitivity but even if you don't it was excellent. read more

I ordered the pumpkin spice waffle and my friend had the plain waffle. Food was good. Limited menu. Not a lot other than waffles. In my opinion there are too many tables in the room. The service has been good as well but recently had a waiter bring a cup of orange juice so full it was spilling while he laughed about it, didnt bring us water, forgot what our order was and brought us the wrong plates. He also began to apologize for his service and then walked away in the middle of his apology while laughing. I honestly believe he was on something, very unprofessional. Been wanting to come down here and check this out because we keep getting ads on Facebook. Wish we'd tried this place before because this place is great. High ceilings, a little piano bar, a couple of zones for mercy, and even fun art for sale. Plus the menu is waffle heavy, but oh, what great waffles they have. They pride themselves on having a gluten free menu, so that's off the table if you need it to be. I tried the classic breakfast which has six slices of bacon, two poached eggs a hash brown with cheese and sour cream, and half a waffle with lots of butter and a little pot of maple syrup. It was a delicious meal, but to be honest, at $24 for thin bacon and half a waffle, it's pricey. Sis got the Pesto Prosciutto Waffle. She liked the burrata, the red tomatoes, and how the pesto wasn't so cloying. The space is inviting and I think on Sunday and Friday nights, they have live music via the piano. did not know such a cool place was located in the middle of Olympia and I will be visiting again because I want that peach waffle a la mode, but just know going in, the place ain't cheap. read more

We were greeted right away, our first time here. Seated right away and given menus. Our wait staff was either new or very introverted. We wanted to know what was the most popular. She didn't know. She also didn't know refill water or check on us. We ordered the breakfast waffle and the Brie and blueberry waffle. The waffles were dry, I was hoping for a fresh made waffle. Great gluten freee.
