My family was visiting from California and went here with my husband and son while I unfortunately had to work. Apparently their first visit was so good that my husband kept insisting we needed to come back together because he was convinced I would love it. He was right lol. We came on a Friday morning around 11am and this place was PACKED. The parking lot was full and there were so many people inside that I was expecting us to have to wait awhile, especially since we were a party of 7. Thankfully, they actually had a table available and seated us pretty quickly in a corner. My only complaint is that it does feel pretty cramped inside. There are a lot of back-to-back booths and tables close together, and some of the walkways are really narrow. I'm personally not a huge fan of the space, but everything else about our experience made up for it. Our server was really friendly and attentive, especially considering how busy they were. All of our orders and requests came out correct, and she still stopped by to check on us in a timely manner. We never felt forgotten even though she was clearly busy. We ordered a basket of fries for everyone to share while waiting for our food and OMG THE RANCH. We don't know what they do to their ranch here but it was SO GOOD. You have to try it!! Everyone at the table agreed that their food was delicious. Ironically, I didn't even order breakfast lol. I got the fish & chips and they were spectacular! The batter was nice and crispy while the fish inside was perfectly flaky. The tartar sauce was really good with it too. And the portions are HUGE. I couldn't even finish mine and ended up taking the rest home to eat for dinner later, so I basically got two meals out of it. It was super filling and satisfying and still tasted amazing later after throwing in the air fryer. The prices seemed pretty fair too, especially considering how much food you get. I definitely don't mind paying when I'm getting a portion big enough to become another meal later. So yeah... my husband was right and I'm glad he made me come here! Good food, huge portions, friendly service even when they're slammed, fair prices, and ranch that I would genuinely come back for. I think Martin Way Diner is officially our new go-to breakfast place now. Next time I'll actually order breakfast haha. read more

Martin Way Diner did not disappoint! We popped in for breakfast, and although the diner was busy, we did not have to wait to be seated. This was our first time at Martin Way Diner. When we first walked in, it felt like a classic diner. And it is! In all the good ways. The diner is clean, the coffee is hot and flavorful, and the portions are generous. My husband had the Build Your Own omelet, topped with Jack Cheese. And they did not skimp on the ingredients. The cheese was nice and gooey, and the flavors melded perfectly. I had the French Toast. Again, generous portions, and the slices were thick and perfectly battered. Not soggy, slightly crisp. And the syrup was warmed! Sometimes it is the little things. The bacon was crisp, just how I had ordered it, not limp, and the eggs were cooked to perfection. Our server was Shawna, and she was personable and perfectly attentive. We were seated where we could observe the cooks, and they functioned like a well-oiled machine. All in all it was a good experience, and I would highly recommend. An added bonus: there are glass partitions between the booths. It really helps keep the noise level down. This was much appreciated and I wish more restaurants would do this. I ordered the Belgian waffle with eggs and bacon -- I like how the waffles had a malty flavor instead of the typical buttermilk flavor. The syrup wasn't too sweet, and the butter cubes are at the perfect temperature- soft enough to spread over your pancake/waffle and not straight from the refrigerator. The food here is superb. There is always a crowd here, so be prepared to wait for a table. Once you garner a table, the service is fast, efficient, and personable. If you need something, just ask for it and they will get it for you. The ambiance is that of a busy diner because, well, that is what it is! For this review, I fully ascribe to the notion that a busy diner is an excellent diner. The food is phenomenal and the customers know it. I have only tried their breakfast items but the rest of their food looks great as well. The portions are large and the prices are reasonable. They also serve good quality food. My favorite meal is the mega chicken fried steak with 3 eggs, hash-browns, and toast. It's enough for 3 meals, so I always have leftovers. Their breakfast juices are really good. I wish there were less competition for seating, but they have a good thing here so it's worth the wait. I really wish I had read the health score for Martin Way Diner before we got takeaway for dinner. We got a burger, meatloaf sandwich and tater tots. The food was hot, and tasted fine, however that does not make up for a night of constantly running to the bathroom. Health scores of 45 for three inspections in a row. ALL DAY BREAKFAST!? Yes. We went on new year's day and it was packed. Customer service didn't miss a beat. Very friendly and helpful. We waited in the car with a buzzer to let us know when our table was ready. They brought my 2 year old a booster and crayons and paper for her and my 3 year old. My kids had eggs and meat and pancakes. They loved it. I had the chicken fried steak and the texture was great. Flavor not too exciting but it was very tender and cooked well. I had a taste of her dip and it is right on-par with the Best of em. My burger was perfectly done visibly as well as to the taste. What needs a little help? I need to leave a review here specifically for the server that was working ALONE WHEN IT WAS SUPER BUSY. It's hard to watch someone try their best when they're the only person working. I don't know if that's normal or if they were working alone. I also work in the business so I have compassion. Michelle was amazing even though she was overwhelmed. It's obvious she knows what she's doing but without support, that's rough. My chicken fried steak and eggs were amazing and always with the mimosa and coffee. While busy the other guests seemed happy but I did notice a few people that were frustrated with the lack of servers available. My son and I had a wonderful experience here at the Martin Way Diner! After a fun afternoon of playing at the park, my 5-year old and I were in the mood for delicious, simple, home cooked food in a laidback setting. We found it here! Set up just like we expected, the Martin Way Diner has many booths and tables to chose from with partitions to retain a wee bit of privacy. The service was great - our waitress was extremely patient with having a kid at the table and didn't rush us at all. She was super! The food too, was amazing. I had the patty melt (one of my all time favs at a diner) and my little guy had breakfast for lunch ... pancakes and bacon! The patty melt was delicious, cooked wonderfully and loaded with cheese and grilled onions. A side of fries made the meal complete. My son loved the pancake - fluffy and light - and the bacon was meaty and yummy too! I highly recommend the Martin Way Diner! I ordered the chicken fried and my companion the 10 oz top sirloin. Both meals came with our choice of sides which in our case were a substantial baked potato , zucchini and side salad with blue cheese dressing. The Cfs was OK but the medium-rare top sirloin was perfect. I obviously chose wrong and should have also ordered the sirloin! Cooked on a seasoned grill, this was the best cheap steak I ever tasted in the PNW. Juicy inside, perfect temperature and every bite flavorful. Extremely satisfying. The side salad and potatoes while good took the sidelines this time. Like McArthur, I shall return and order the perfect and affordable 10oz sirloin. Now on to the service; very good. This is a solid breakfast place with hood sized portions. I ordered the classic breakfast with sausage Pattie's and it's probably the best breakfast sausage I've had in Washington because it was tender, had the right amount of seasonings, and pour pancake syrup and it's so good. Everything else was okay. The coffee needs to be stronger. The servers were friendly but not in my face and they checked in a lot. My favorite part of being at a classic dinner though is sitting in a booth or at the counter. I sat myself at the counter and was left alone, which was awesome. But then a guy named Tom (who was super cute and looked like Darren LeGallo aka Amy Adams' husband) sat next to me and we got into a really fun conversation about the best breakfast places in Olympia. He made some recommendations and honestly, this was the first conversation I had with a fellow foodie since I moved to Washington and I miss conversations like that. Hope I run into him again so we can pick up where we left off. If I were just grading the place on food, it would get 3 stars. Great sausage, average food. But it's the kooky vibe from the nice, low key servers to the oldies music that plays only one track (i heard Monday Monday sung by The Papas, but the Mamas were missing), to the good conversation with Tom, MWD gets it another 1/2 star from me.
