The pride, dedication, and effort that is put in every single day. It is commendable. Being a small business owner is not easy day in and day out, but they make it look easy. Popped in as it looked like a nice little spot for some food. I had the salmon sandwich and it was so good! The tartar sauce with it was amazing (I'm not a huge tartar sauce fan) and the salmon was cooked perfectly. Recently had breakfast with my wife, for the first time, at the Shipwreck Cafe in Olympia. Only have two words to say - exceeded expectations! Our server was Josie and she was amazing! Anticipated our every need and delivered what I'd call 'over the top hospitality!' She's a keeper! Clean, friendly, great food, great service, amazing ambiance and they also serve a great drink too! Wife had Loco Moco Oly style and I had chicken fried steak & eggs. One of the best breakfast's we've ever had in the PNW. In particular note, the hash browns were cooked and served to perfection - just the right amount of delicious brown crispness without being soggy. We'll be back! read more

The restaurant is also fairly cramped, but they can accommodate larger parties. We were seated quickly considering how busy it was. Overall, the food was fine; it was a regular cafe. My food was a little cold. Granted, I went to the restroom to wash my hands, but I was only gone for about a minute, so it was not that hot coming out. Also, they have syrup packets rather than a container of syrup, which I am never a fan of. My partner got the Monte Cristo sandwich, and they enjoyed their meal. After a hospital visit I decided to go to a new place for us. Saw this place and decided to try them out. Initial views: Right off the road, a fairly big building. Parking located right up front and to the side of the restaurant. There are outdoor seating where we saw a dog sitting by a table, so pet friendly! When you walk in, there's a wall of syrups and the signs for cocktails, their daily specials. A cooler showcasing desserts made in house too. Food and Drink: Chicken fried steak with hashbrowns and eggs Sausage & Bacon hash with egg Blueberry pancake Sourdough toast Grapefruit juice Bottomless coffee The decor inside shows shipwrecks and other nautical items. The food was cooked and delivered hot and well seasoned. Waitress was nice and kept up with checking in with us. It was just good American cafe food. Went in on a Monday night, it was nice, dark and quiet (the music was a lil loud but I didn't mind it too much, especially with other people around). The food was amazing! My partner and I had the Double Spoiler which was crispy, juicy, cheesy and so delicious (extra points for the sourdough not shredding up the inside of my mouth). I had the garlic tots but even the regular fries were hot, crispy and delightfully seasoned. I really wish I had noticed the chalkboard with their specialty drinks/ cold brew and their awards for their clam chowder but oh well! We came in for brunch and were promptly greeted by friendly staff. We were soon seated in this warm, seafaring-themed cafe. I had the meat-lover's omelette with hash browns. I found the omelette itself to lack flavor (milk, salt & pepper are typically added for fluffier, tasty egg mixture) but was otherwise good; the hash browns were tasty. My SIL had the Reuben, which was very good, and my daughter has the breakfast potato bowl, which she very much enjoyed. Our server was very friendly, prompt, and attentive without being intrusive. If you're in Olympia or passing through, you have to visit! I picked a random spot thinking it would be a hole in the wall but but it turned out to be a very cute and popular restaurant! It was raining outside so I really wanted a cozy breakfast and that's exactly what I got - eggs, sausage, potatoes, and coffee with the waitress coming around to top me off every 10 minutes. My coworkers and I stopped in here for breakfast and were SHOCKED at the high prices. We had heard they had a good Monte Cristo sandwich and wanted to try it but it was $21.00. Even at the higher end restaurants in the county, they aren't over 20.00. We ended up getting some other breakfast items, which were ok, but nothing more than typical breakfast fare you can get anywhere. Portions were comparable to anywhere else around. Their prices are higher than most breakfast places in the county that we have tried. Service was ok, basically just perfunctory. Easy parking & easy on and off of Sr101. We probably won't be back. I get inflation has hit everywhere but with these prices I would expect a more upscale ambiance and service. The restaurant has a typical diner feel to it. read more

Get the chowder fries - you will NOT regret it. Came to shipwreck cafe starving (and hungover) after waking up at 4:30am to drive two hours for an early morning clam dig at Twin Harbors. A bowl of chowder fries did the trick to quell my upset, hangry stomach. Those fries were so crispy and not greasy. Paired with delicious chowda mmm. Hit the spot. I should've ordered two bowls of them tbh; the Swabby was too much for me but still good! And the waitress was super nice and attentive / filled the bottomless coffee at a nice cadence. read more

We have eaten here several times and it is always great food. Known for breakfast, we can attest that it is deserved. My Eggs Benedict....perfect, biscuits and gravy...yummy, hash....amazing. Husband loves the chicken fried steak and it is typically his go to for breakfast or dinner. For lunch and dinner I always get sweet potato fries. I could probably just eat those but love their burgers also. The prime rib special is delicious and we have gotten yummy desserts to go. Service is always prompt and friendly. The atmosphere is usually good. Seating is typically in the same area and it is generally families and couples. On occasion it gets loud in that space. We stopped in during a Saturday morning. I like that the location is RIGHT off the freeway exit for easy access and has a good-sized parking area. The interior has a very quaint, country diner atmosphere. The wait times were minimal and the staff was Super Friendly! The menu was what you expect from a country style diner/cafe. Pancakes were good as was the bacon (good flavor, but not as thick as I like). The orders were well prepared and cooked as ordered. Eggs and omelets were great. I am not sure what to say... this used to be a great place to eat with a friendly hometown diner like feel. Everything has changed... it feels rushed... it's WAY more expensive and I am not seeing compelling reasons to pay these prices. The seating is awkward... something is missing... no more fun retail greeting you... waiting to see if theirs some magical difference in the quality of such an unremarkable menu. It used to have some very interesting menu options that really made you want to come in for great values and portions. Places like this need 6-12 egg omelets... 1/2 - 1lb burgers...in-house special batter... big pies... something you don't get elsewhere... they need someone to come in and create some menu items or something. I hadn't given much thought to dining at the Shipwreck Cafe because it's far on the other side of town. However, looking at their online menu, I discovered they offer tuna melts. I love tuna melts and they're rare and far between on restaurant menus. The tuna melt here is one of the best I've ever had. The bread - I chose whole wheat - was grilled to perfection and the tuna and cheese between the slices was piping hot. That means the cheese was melted to a gooey excellence. So good! read more

I was told that this place is worth visiting because they were one of the top restaurants the Olympian cited in an article as having one of the best breakfasts in town, so our hopes were high. That is now a lesson for me that I need to temper my expectations. When we arrived, the parking lot was full but there were open tables. The waitress was super nice and seated us immediately, got us our coffee, and took our orders quickly. So far, so good. The place looks like a cabin in the woods and the dining area has nice little half booths. We were kind of excited by the idea that we were checking out a local favorite. And it definitely must be, because the food doesn't dictate the excitement. I'm sure it had to be an off day because the food was bland at best, burned at worst. I got the corned beef hash and the corned beef was fine. The egg needed salt or something because it went straight from the shell to the pan and it tasted like it. I always love some good buttered toast, but this toast was so ready that you could barely taste the butter and strawberry jam didn't make it better. Maybe choosing a thinner bread would have fixed it, but I also just didn't like the bread. The hash browned potatoes were crispy, so that was good, but they were also burned. Or maybe the oil was burned. Either way, they tasted bad and I know it wasn't just an accident for my hash browns because my sister's hash brown tasted the same. She also got the steak and there was no seasoning. I remember watching a Top Chef episode where Tom Colicchio was asking a chef why he didn't season his steak and the guy said he thought that was something that should be left to the customer's taste. Colicchio said something to the effect of, "You're the chef. You make that decision. It's your job to make the food taste good." That's all I could think of when I tasted my sister's steak. But thanks to the bland steak, we had a snack for our dogs. The reputation of this place must be just because it's a local favorite, or maybe the food is good but just not this day. I'll give it another shot sometime in the summer, but I'm not excited about it.
