Cool cafe with pretty mid food. The ambiance inside is really relaxing; plenty of comfortable seating with plenty of plants around to make a warm and inviting space. The cafe is attached to a store, but that doesn't really affect the cafe all that much. The tablecloths used have a tendency to slide around very easily. We got the tempe blt panini and tempeh Ruben panini with their fries. The fries and ketchup were the best tasting item. You can add extras to the sandwiches, but that gets pretty pricey pretty fast. I added on avocado for $2, which was left off my sandwich so be sure to check that your food is correct. They did give me a small cup of avocado when I went up to the front, but I unfortunately did not notice it was missing until I had already eaten half of my sandwich. The food itself was a bit greasy. Not too overwhelming, but enough that it affected the meal. The sandwiches are pretty small, but filling enough for a lunch sized portion. Beyond food, everything else is self service (water, napkins, utensils). Not bad unless you have limited mobility, then it will be difficult to maneuver around the tables to the small cramped corner that everything else is located. When a gentleman asked the staff if they would bring him a fork (needed assistance walking), the staff only pointed again where the utensils were located before walking away. read more

My first time at Soul Cafe, and I will certainly go back. The fun, relaxed atmosphere reminds me a lot of restaurants in Eugene, OR -- really nice ambience and good vibe. I had a bahn mi salad and tea. Very tasty! My only recommendation is to remove one or two tables/chairs. As other reviewers have noted it's difficult to walk through the cafe (I needed to go get a fork - did not come with my salad) and it was a bit difficult to move to the sideboard up front where they're located. Besides crowds of tables and chairs, people had left backpacks strewn over the floor adjacent to where they were seated. Restaurant staff should have asked them to clear personal items from the floor. It's not welcoming for disabled or older people because of this -- one star gone due to that. read more

I was in Olympia from California to visit friends. I stopped into this lovely café to get a drink. There are so many options on the menu. Kinda blown away. Lots of creative and interesting offerings. The type you don't see in many other establishments. Ample seating is available, the outside covered patio. The ambience is stellar. The staff members are personable and have a calm demeanor. I ordered the black garlic nacho fries. My first time trying anything with black garlic on it. Totally tasty. The portion size was hefty, and the price was not too high. Also tried the probiotic sodas. They taste wonderful. I had four different flavors to select from. My favorite was the Blue Lotus that was made with guarana, to give us an extra boost of energy. I even met the owners. A tightly knit pair who have been married for many years. They were congenial and provided compassionate customer service to me. Thank you! I will return. A very cute cafe in Olympia. Located next to a yoga studio, Soul Cafe lives to its name with its warm atmosphere, fresh food, and refueling drinks. I came here with my parents who have visited before while we were driving down to Portland. LOGISTICS Soul Cafe has an interested location - not only is it located attached to a yoga studio, it's also in a business park so you wouldn't really know it existed driving by. However the best way to describe the cafe is homey, from the wood tables and decor. Indoor seating is very limited, so if you are more than 2 people it might be hard to dine-in if the outside weather isn't great. We lucked out and got the only round table to fit 4 people. Majority of people coming in were doing take-out orders. If the weather is nice, they have a lovely outdoor patio area with more seating. Ordering is done at the counter - staff are very friendly and helpful too. Come here to chill and have a meal. As others have said... it does take a bit to get food orders, but this is a very low key place, not a sandwich fast food chain. It has that kind of vibe. FOOD Tempeh Reuben: Disclaimer - I'm not vegan/vegetarian... but I do enjoy eating plant based food because I think it's more interesting, and this was a good example of that. Lots of flavor even without the traditional pastrami, the sauerkraut and swiss were a good combo with their marinated grilled tempeh. Sauce was on point bringing a good tang. The sandwich also was nicely toasted and warm on rye bread - not sure why someone was complaining their sandwich wasn't a panini / flat pressed sandwich... as mine definitely was. I think it's dependent on the bread in the description, so if this is enough to bother you, pay attention to the menu? Herbal Fries: Health aside, these are crack. Literally, I could eat a bucket of these - the herbal fries here are VERY good. Fragrant and perfectly crisp, but without feeling too greasy / guilty. Recommend getting your own because you probably won't want to share... I know my family didn't. One thing to note about their latte drinks - they are served with their house made cashew milk. No dairy... praise the lactose intolerance gods! Really though, I liked that non-dairy was already the default. Spiced Mocha: I have become a coffee snob (anti-Starbucks), but this met my expectations for the PNW! It was served at the right temp and the espresso didn't taste burnt - just right. Don't let the spices, especially the cayenne, scare you. It gives the drink a nice but soothing warmth while drinking, that really compliments the espresso and chocllate. OVERALL It's a little off the beaten path but a hidden gem in Olympia if you're looking for fresh food and drinks made with care. Plus you can taste the quality, at least I did in those fries and reuben. While not quite the fastest food service, that's not the vibe this place is going for. I came here with my dad and grandma on the basis of their yelp description which advertises that they have a cozy patio. The sunny, spring day we arrived, they had a big car parked on their patio, and the only outdoor seating was along the street. We had two dogs, so we needed outdoor seating. The seating they had was noisy (cars zooming by), made hearing conversation difficult, was not ideal for 3 people, as the third had to sit in passersbys' way in the sidewalk, was not ideal for an old lady with a big walker that needs to be parked nearby, as the walker had to sit in the middle of the sidewalk, and most importantly, was not nearly as comfortable or as pleasant as a patio would have been. If the description had been accurate, we would have elected to go somewhere else. We would have left after arriving, except that parking had been so difficult, and we had already spent time finding a parking place and walking to the restaurant from the parking place. We felt like we had to make something of it. I'm glad we tried it, but I wouldn't go again. This was very disappointing because I had been very deliberate about choosing a place with a patio--it was a major part of choosing to go to Soul Cafe. But now I've heard that it's under new ownership, and that the new owner never has the patio setup. I feel like they need to update their yelp description to avoid disappointing customers. Getting our drinks took 10 minutes, and getting our food took another 25. The 35 minute wait for our food felt long. The food, once it arrived, was a bit disappointing. The sandwiches were smaller than I'm used to (enough for a meal, but no leftovers), and at a $19 price tag, the size was disappointing. These sandwiches also don't come with any sides. The taste was good, but nothing to write home about, and didn't justify the price, for me. This wasn't a big deal to me, but it mattered more to my dad: it's not a full-service place; you bus your own tables. But no one has wiped the tables down that day. The outdoor table we sat at was covered with dirt and dust. There's also nowhere to dispose of uneaten food or drinks. All they have is a place to deposit empty plates and cups. The only trashcan they have is behind the counter, and we had to find it and ask to use it. Who does self-bussing but doesn't make a trash can available? I would have given it 3 stars, but I'm giving it 2 because of the patio issue. read more

My new favorite outdoor spot to dine! As others have posted the food is fresh and delicious. The setting where you can enjoy it is an an absolute standout for Olympia! The fully encased patio has several table heaters and even gas flame tables to delight the eye. I always thought I would try their food so when they moved downtown I finally did. $18 for a salmon burger that was just totally an unappetizing pale pink with no "grilled" flavor no seasonings-no herbs, spices or a little garlic, only a vague "salmon" flavor. I didn't take the chipotle sauce option, just mayo because I think the main item should have enough flavor you don't need to totally smother the taste with a hot sauce to cover up for an otherwise tasteless item. Then to pay EXTRA for a few sweet potato fries whose only flavor was the near burnt taste of the brown fry marks on them. I make them at home and you CAN taste the sweet potato if you cook them the right way. I rebel at places that want "support" because they are "locally owned" or "organic" or whatever. No joy in the cooking came across nor a spirit of generosity or quality control. I felt ripped off financially and, taste-wise. Very disappointed. I won't risk going back. What a hidden gem! One of Olympia's best kept secrets. Such a unique, wide array of food and drink options. Mostly everything is local and/or organically sourced and truly made with delicious love in every bite. Customer service is above & beyond! I feel like I'm coming to visit my dear friends every time I stop in. My favorites are: Tempeh Reuben, chicken avocat, truffle smashed potatoes, chicken raspberry. For drinks, I love the cardamom rose latte, Earl Gray latte, the almond butter protein shake, the lavender blueberry mylkshake, and the heartbeat fresh juice. Pretty much everything can be made vegan and gluten free too! Something for everyone. I LOVE that they make their own cashew milk with organic cashews and the added acacia fiber and MCT oil is such a great touch. This place is one of the best examples I've found that proves "food is medicine". I love the community they're creating, especially with the new weekly open mic nights and live music. Things do not seem to be going well with the move of the Soul Cafe to the New Traditions space. I was there to meet a friend for lunch today. Service was so slow my friend and I wondered if we would eat. He used the term glacial, which was accurate. I arrived at 11:50AM and ordered a sandwich and a 12 oz cup of hot tea. He arrived at noon and ordered avocado toast. About a quarter of tables were occupied at most the entire time we were there. When we arrived there were two staff people working. One left about noon. About 12:50 I asked about my tea and the one staff person remaining did not know about it and said he would make it right away which he did not. About 1:15 or later my sandwich arrived and I asked again about the tea, which he made and brought. A little while later the avocado toast was delivered. Over an hour to serve relatively simple items. The one staff person was obviously struggling, but also moving slowly, to his credit about 12:45 or he started turning away new customers. He also mentioned the printer had stopped working. The food was tasty, but I will cancel my lunch planned there for next week. My wife and her tea group met there yesterday at 11:00 and some of them had to ask for their drinks more than once while three staff were working. My wife warned me to expect a wait, I should have listened. Fortunately I was in no rush. I really hope the Cafe can pull it together. I ate at their westside location and things went well. I thought an established business, with a planned move to a similar size location had a good chance of success, but maybe not. Time will certainly tell. read more

How do I consider all the things: food, atmosphere, ambiance, service, taste, location, staff, friendliness, vibe... this place is a true gem, nestled between a well-being yoga/wellness studio, and some beautiful greenery... an eclectic, fun menu of sandwiches, salads and toasts, hot beverages, coffee, tea, smoothies, shakes. I went with a Pina Colada smoothie and raspberry/herb grilled cheese... both were delicious!! The service/owners even friendlier. I called ahead to see if I could sit with my pup outside, and they said yes. I'm so grateful to have this little oasis in Olympia. Each table topped with a glass vase and fresh wild flowers, reminders of happiness, peace, tranquility at every glance, and hidden smiley faces makes this place one of my new favorites! As I left my car for aervice on auto row, I walked around the neighborhood and found this secret hideaway serving hot drinks [tea, espresso], salads and sandwiches. The menu options tempted me with items I could eat, such as carrot-jicama salad; but I wasn't ready for lunch and chose the green tea latte instead. The owners, Devin and Prism, offered a taste of their home-made blend of Hibiscus tea- which was AMAZING, refreshing and healthy as a bonus. Then, they added Spirolina to my green tea, on my request, and I felt ready to hike Mt. Eleanor without pause. Too bad that the only walking I needed to do was back to auto row. Delighted to find this secret hide-away with a creative, healthy menu and hot drinks. I will be back.
