Came here today for the first time. The restaurant was almost completely empty. The wait staff was very friendly and took my order promptly. I was by myself and ordered biscuits & gravy, eggs, hash browns, and bacon. 20 minutes later, I asked when my food is coming out and indicated that it should not take this long to make a single entree. The waitress apologized and said she'll tell the kitchen to hurry up. My food didn't come out until 5 minutes later (25 minutes total after ordering). The food was very good and reasonably priced, but it should not have taken so long for one entree to come out. What if I had been there with the rest of my family? What an awesome cute cafe! Had lunch here with my girlfriend, the BLT and French dip were great. I think the best thing was the fried zucchini, it's delicious and you get a lot of it! Once on the list of local destinations, now, not so much. A turn for the worse has been taken since they expanded to the larger spot next to the original location. Growing pains? Maybe. But still, as a customer, I really don't care and shouldn't have to. After giving it a second chance after the move, it may not get a third. Service could use some attention. I don't think the staff have adapted well to a larger location. Same problem as the previous tenant, the waitstaff can go hide behind the partition. Almost impossible to get someone's attention for a refill or other requests. Due to the new spread, it might be 10 minutes or more for the server to do follow-ups. The food is typical small restaurant quality, not gross, but not "outstanding" either. Serviceable and a fair value. Nothing much stands out, it's all fairly typical. A decent place to go if you want something similar to home cooking but don't want to cook, but don't mind waiting for a while (or longer). read more

Visiting from out of town and we really wanted pancakes and this place happened to be close by. First impression is "wow, a lot of old people come here". Which usually gives me a Denny's vibe. Second impression was it was really dark inside. SOME natural lighting would have been great. But our meals came and oh my goodness it was yummy. The pancakes had a really great flavor and my boyfriend loved the country fried steak. We went for the first time last week. My husband had a nice sandwich. He was OK. I had soup and salad. The potato and bacon soup lacked the bacon. The potatos were too large for me to bite. I ordered southern catfish with fries and brocolli. My friend had a waffle with bacon. Her waffle must've been good. She demolished it. Her bacon was also good (I took a piece of too). My food was not good the grease used to cook the catfish was old. The fries and brocolli were both cold. When my waiter finally came to the table it was to see if we wanted the bill. I expressed my concerns. She didn't care. Just took the plate and brought the bills. So I went to see a manager who swears the grease was changed this morning. Which is doubtful unless the cook burned the catfish. It was the color of an old penny. And the aftertaste was something like the burnt pieces at the bottom of the pan after you fry food. I don't think this restaurant should only have one $ seeing as a single waffle is $7. My son loved the mouse pancake. (That being said, not many 8 year-olds say no to a pancake with whip cream, chocolate chips and cherries.) I enjoyed the Florentine Benedict. The dish wasn't smothered in hollandaise, so if you're one of those people that likes hollandaise with a side of english muffin, you may be disappointed. I liked the ratio, however, since I normally watch my calories. I do think the hash browns could have been a little more crispy...mine didn't look like the picture that others have posted. This place is a really good find. One of the best kept secrets in Denton. The food is quick and hot. The service is terrific. The chef doesn't season anything with salt or pepper, so food has a tendency to be bland, but you can tell that great care was put into the dishes. We showed up at 1:00pm on a Sunday. They brewed a fresh pot of coffee for me. I had liver and onions. I know it's an acquired taste, but it was good once I salted it. The Mac and Cheese was cheesy and wasn't made from a box. The potatoes were not instant. My wife had the chicken fried steak, which again came without seasoning. A pinch of salt and it became spectacular. They have fresh tamales and fresh homemade pie and cakes made every week. I will go back frequently. The breakfast is yet to be determined. read more

Very good food! My family and I enjoyed our meal at Sidewalk Cafe. The service was very good. I ordered the Meat Lover Omelette with hash browns and toast. The serving was huge and very tasty. Oldest son had the Chicken Fried Steak and it was gone in a flash. Best way to say it was excellent! Wife and youngest son had the Grilled Chicken sandwich. Went in the evening and ordered breakfast. Not bad at all. Waitstaff was extremely welcoming and friendly and attentive, but also left you to enjoy your meal and company. I ordered the South of the Border Skillet with my eggs over medium; eggs were spot-on perfect and the veggies & potatoes fresh. Chorizo was greasy, but hey, that's what chorizo *is*. The Other Half had a breakfast combo with bacon and eggs over medium as well (again, perfectly cooked eggs). It must have been good because the plate was pretty much scraped clean. We also split a waffle. YES, I know. Full breakfast plates *and* we split a waffle. Don't judge. We had to test the place out. This was a sacrifice for YOU, Dear Reader. The waffle was pretty good, though I think maybe too light as it seemed to disappear from the first bite. Good flavor, but I personally prefer a heftier batter. There are two dining areas, but we were in the smaller one and didn't see the larger one (maybe that's the one the other reviewer said was "Country"?). Some tables and about 3-4 booths and a counter dining bar. Granite tops, some wall sconces, didn't really notice any decorations but the paint scheme was neutral. All in all, we'll be back the next time we're craving breakfast for dinner. May sometime we'll even actually try the dinner menu. read more

Great spot for breakfast. I'm a real perfectionist about my over easy eggs, because I HATE runny whites, but my eggs as well as the rest of my skillet were cooked perfectly. My friend ordered eggs with an easy scramble and some grits, and his praise was comparable to mine. The service was a little slow, but the courtesy was definitely there, and the owner herself checked in regularly and even talked about the other food she serves off-menu with us. Just from the 5-10 minutes we spoke, I got a sense that she really does put her best foot forward in the kitchen, and it shows. It's just a touch pricier than a trip to IHOP or similar place would be, but the food here makes those chains look like sub-Taco Bell trash. I loved every bite and will be returning. read more

I live nearby and come here often, usually for breakfast or lunch. Personally, I have never had a problem with service. The staff is always quick to address me and take my order. Food always comes out in under 15 min. The blt and tomato soup combo is excellent. It's my "usual". Everything I have ever ordered has been quite good. I have no complaints regarding the food or service. The tamales are delicious and I love taking them home for later. My only wish is that they invested in a cappuccino machine so they can start serving some cappuccino/mocha/espresso like the ones at seven mile cafe. All they have is regular coffee pot coffee. :/ Hence, my reason for 4 stars instead of 5. read more

I've been to this place two or three times now, and it exceeds expectations. Most importantly, the food is good. If you are wanting good breakfast in the afternoon or evenings, this is definitely the place to be. Price for quality is also better than chain diners such as Denny's or IHOP. It reminds me of the great 7-Mile Cafe in Denton, but prices are more reasonable, and the spacing is better....as well as hours extending well beyond 3pm. Their lunch and dinner menu is just as good. There is room for improvement, like less salt in some of their entrees, bit never disappointed. My mother also has photography displayed there. read more
