The only pho place open past 9pm and we were starving from our flight back. We ordered the egg roll app which was all good until we tasted on of the rolls which was the worse out of all of them. There was absolutely no line here on a Friday night. We ordered the large P1 pho beef combination ($15). The beef was not thinly sliced and was very tough. The broth was flavorful but veryy oily. The large bowl felt like a medium size bowl at other pho spots. Parking on the street. We parked about half a block away but parking can be tough depending on the time you go. Since Pandemic, they have increased the price of the menu twice. The price of a large bowl of pho (it's actually a regular size bowl compare to other restaurants) is now $19.99 + tips of 25%. A stir fry garlic noodles with beef is now $30, I can go on and on....... Basically, they have increased $3 to $7 on each dish since last year. (increased $5~$10 each dish from 2019) Me, family, and friends have to boycott. read more

This place was great. The service is crap but that's because Covid has made everything crap. But the food was awesome and the tables were comfortable and the place has a nice feel to it. My wife had the beef combo pho and I had the sliced ribeye. Broth was the same but the meats were different. Both were very good. They have a nice hoisin sauce and a perfect chili sauce that took the pho from great to awesome. Some people complained about the price of the food, but what do you expect since Sleepy Uncle Joe became president, inflation is the order of the day. read more

I was looking up for places to eat while waiting for my laundry near by. I have been hitting yojimbo pretty frequently every time I come to this area to do my laundry so I thought it was about time to try new places near by. Came in around 4 pm and the place seem pretty empty in side, but I like how it was pretty spacious and clean inside. I was thinking of trying out their ox tail pho, but I ended up with the Pork chop, and grill shrimp over broken rice, and it was actually a pretty good choice, because the pork chop was really good, it was tender, the flavor was good, not too sweet like them other Vietnamese places, and I really like the burn taste it have from the grill. The grill shrimp was actually extra meat for $3 according to the server, they were small, but they didn't taste too bad. The broken rice was perfect in the softness, wasn't dry or anything, mix it up with some of the onion sauce that came with the pork chop. There was also a small side of lettuce and a slide of cucumber, a bit boring, I wish they sub it with green bean or something else. Also the meal didn't come with a side of soup like how they do it at them other Vietnamese restaurants for broken rice meal. Ice tea was not bad, the lemon pieces ruined the taste of the tea, but I like how they use a reusable metal straw. the porkchop rice was 13$ +$3 for added shrimp, with an ice tea, my meal end up at 20 buc some how, +$3 tip. This place is one of my favorite pho restaurant in the Bay Area. I usually come here on a Saturday or Sunday morning so there's never really a line. I usually get the Bun Bo Hue or Pho Ga depending on what I feel like eating. My boyfriend always gets the combination pho. I enjoy the staff, the food and the atmosphere here. The staff are kind and attentive. The food tastes unique and delicious. There's also a nice vibe in this restaurant, I totally think it's from the big windows and large paintings on the wall, definitely doesn't feel like I'm still in the city when I'm here. The BBH here is very flavorful and heavy. There's so much spices in the soup but it all falls together to give you this beautiful soup base that you can't find anywhere else (definitely unique!) There's the right about of vermicelli rice noodles and generous amount of meat in this bowl and my favorite, pork blood. The Pho Ga, oh my goodness, this is a simple dish, which means it usually tastes as expected and there's not much you can make of it. When I ordered pho ga here, I was blown away by how clean the soup tastes. It was very pure and cozy. I had my pho ga with egg noodle and that was that. This is our favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Alameda. The food is amazing--flavorful, filling, and different from what other places offer. They have seasonal specials like Oxtail Pho and Rice Porridge in the winter and Golden State Warriors-inspired dishes like Pork Belly Klay Pot, Chicken Curry, and Pickled Mustard Greens now in the spring. My go-to is their Grilled Turmeric Fish Vermicelli Salad, which is aromatic, savory, and comforting in so many ways without feeling heavy. It's served with dill and green onion on top of noodles, cucumber, pickled veggies, bean sprouts, and lettuce, and I love it! My husband ordered a similar dish--Ribeye Vermicelli Salad and said the meat was cooked well and tasty. He usually orders pho, but was happy with what he got this time. Service is good, but they're always busy and it could take a while for food to arrive, so I would suggest looking over the menu before you go. That way, you can get your order in quickly and go back to enjoying conversations with friends. And my only wish is that the restaurant was larger. The tables are pretty close together and it seems like they're trying something new every few months to get it "right." The current plan includes a few rows of communal tables amidst other separate tables, but this feels odd when there's table service (versus ordering at a counter) as turnover doesn't happen as quickly. Only one bathroom and it happens to be unisex (:-() (needs better maintenance as a result). Food was tasty. DH and I got vegetarian pho and fresh spring rolls. Initially we felt jipped when we had so little brother even as we overlooked that the bowl of soup was quite loaded with vegetables and pho. And then we were told it would be $4 for more broth (not happy, Bob). When owner dropped by our table she mentioned we received excess vegetables (thus the lack of broth...got sucked up with all the ingredients!! . We got the additional broth at no charge as a result. The kids enjoyed their meatball pho but our eldest was a bit disappointed that his plate took an additional 12-13 minutes to arrive. It was a rice place that included pork. I grew up eating Vietnamese food in Southern California and the only food better than the restaurants tended to be my mom's cooking. Maybe my experience would be better if I had ordered the Dac Biet Pho - my normal go to on a cold day... but I got the bun/vermicelli with pork, and everyone else got the combination stir fry, vegan pho, and the ribeye pho. It was also a super busy Saturday night. The vermicelli: the portion is so small... The pork was not cut into smaller pieces. It was the smallest bowl of vermicelli I've ever been served and I was hungry after finishing it. It's the most bare bones bowl of vermicelli compared to anything in SoCal and to Cafe Bun Mi in SF (and yes I've been spoiled by the consistent quality of food in SoCal that I don't like to try new places in the Bay). Taste was fine (not the most complicated dish/flavors to make!) And it's $10... The stir fry is decent. A good amount of meat... but lacking in noodles. But it was really, really oily. I didn't try the other 2 dishes, but my friends didn't like either. Customer service was good. Sidestreet is one of the most fanciest pho places I have ever been to! The atmosphere is indeed casual, but also very cozy and intimate enough for a date night. Prices are a bit steep compared to other pho places, but I think it's worth the splurge. I got the P6 and I was delightfully surprised. I was expecting an average bowl of pho, but it turned out to be delish! The meat was tender, broth was tasty and portion size was perfect. Service was also friendly and quick. Had a pleasant visit at Sidestreet Pho in Alameda. This city has a bunch of wonderful restaurants. In my opinion, Sidestreet Pho is one of the top 2 Vietnamese restaurants in town. Their menu offers a large selection of choices. My wife went with the Porridge. I had the Shredded pork with fried egg sandwich. Both of us were underwhelmed with our choices. The food was tasty, but compared to our hometown favorite it was not as good. We will order something else next time. There are plenty of other entrees to try here. Must mention that their Mango Shake was very good!! Would order that one again. Although our visit did not quite meet expectations, I would drop in again. Next time I will ask what they recommend. Amazing Pho! Went here for dinner after getting Pho recently and had a really good time. We parked a couple blocks away but there is street parking nearby. When we got there we were sat right away. I got the Pho Hai San with extra noodles. Great flavor and the seafood was scrumptious!! I had a lot for leftovers but I do like how you get your bang for buck. I'm on a diet at the moment but if I ever come back I would want to try a Beef Pho next time. Most of all service was good too. Really impressed with Alameda's food options! This is one of my favorite restaurants in Alameda and the kind of place that has something for everyone. Soup noodles? Check! Rice plates? Check! Banh mi? Check! There's also gluten-free and vegetarian/vegan options galore. My favorite dishes are numerous: bun bo hue (a vibrantly beef-based broth with lemongrass and chili oil with all sorts of beefy and porky chunks, including a cube of pork blood!), bun rieu (tomato-based broth with crab), oxtail pho, the rice plate combo with shredded pork, egg rolls, and a fried egg, and the banh xeo (a stuffed omelette crepe). I also love that you can customize your noodles (thin, thick, egg, rice, etc). The restaurant decor is gorgeous albeit with limited seating given its popularity. Broken Rice Pork Chop had a nice bbq taste and pretty tender. It came with a sweet fish sauce, which was a perfect match. Crab & Shrimp Stir-Fry was very tasty and we loved the thin glass noodle. The food here is consistently good. I have tried several of the different pho soups and enjoyed them all. The beef pho is very flavorful and better than what I have had at other places. I often like to get the chicken version because it comes with clear noodles and I LOVE clear noodles. It is a lighter dish and great for cold weather or when you want a little comfort. Sometimes rice porridge is on the menu. That is tasty and normally comes with what I refer to as a Chinese doughnut which is a fried dough you can dunk in the porridge. I recently tried the banh mi with grilled pork and that was not only tasty but also a wonderful bargain at $6. The roll was fresh; it had a crispy crust with a soft middle, just how I like my bread. You can get in and out in under an hour which makes this a perfect lunch spot. Moreover, it is one of the cleanest Asian restaurants around which is an added bonus. My go to place for the one and only Hu Tieu Kho Thap Cam (combination dry noodles). They give you two options between egg noodles or clear noodles. I'd recommend clear! It comes with 1 piece of lettuce where noodles would lay on top of it, fish balls, ground meat, shrimp, and a crab piece would mixed together. It kind of reminds me of spaghetti with the tomato sauce. Pho is an okay here, but not as authentic as I've had a gazillion times before. They have a great selection of fruit smoothies. I've eaten here 6-8 times because I really wanted to give them a chance but this place rips us off more and more each time. I ordered two chicken pho - one regular, one large - with extra chicken for the large soup, for a total of $37 with ~$8 tip. We always end up a little disappointed with the portion size so this time we weighed the chicken. The chicken that's meant to go with the soup was 2 oz whereas the extra chicken was almost 3oz. That's a ridiculously tiny amount of protein for the price we're paying. And to be honest, the quality or taste of the broth does NOT justify the price. Just tried my soup and it's completely over salted (probably to make up for lack of flavor); it tastes like they spilled the salt in, it's inedible. I've been craving Vietnamese food for a long time and this place definitely hit the spot ! I came around 1PM on a Sunday and the small place was packed !! Wrote my name down on the waiting list and didn't have to wait too long to be seated since we opted to sit at the bar! I got B1 with grilled beef and OH MAN was it bomb !! The egg roll that came with it was deliciously crunchy and satisfying with every bite. I was so satiated at the end of my meal minus the fact that I wanted more ! I think proportions for vermicelli bowls are bigger at other Vietnamese restaurants, but it wasn't a big deal because I think other places just give you more noodles to fill you up. Rib eye pho!!! The meat is so tender and delicious and the broth is very quality. I've only gotten delivery but the broth is still super hot when it gets home, so it breaks up the noodles well. My husband and I are fans and regulars. One day maybe we can go eat inside. We get pork imperial rolls everywhere and these unfortunately are not a favorite. I was skeptical of ordering pho for takeout but SideStreet Pho really nailed the pandemic packaging game. Each component of my beef combo pho were in separate containers so I could assemble at home. This was also great because I was able to prep a smaller bowl and save some of the broth for a second helping the next day. The pho is top notch here! The rest of my order was properly labeled, with dressings in neat containers on the side. I definitely recommend the grilled turmeric fish.
