Chicken Pho ($14.50)
Stuart B.

I'm gonna give this place a solid three, maybe three and a half stars. I'd like to give it the four it has on Yelp, but it was underwhelming in some respects and didn't meet my expectations, especially in terms of friendly service. They were cordial - I was greeted and served promptly - but no one checked in on me or asked how the food was. It was very businesslike. Even at checkout, the interaction felt flat. They had a steady stream of customers, and food came out in about 10-15 minutes. I got the chicken pho. The ginger scallion sauce was a first for me and was amazing - I'd go back just for that. Noodles and broth were good, but the shredded chicken was very chewy. At $14.50, the price was fair, but I'd only return because it's cheaper than other spots. They gave sprouts, peppers, and lemon - but no basil. Also, options were limited - just poultry, beef, and one seafood soup. No tofu or fish. So yeah, three to three and a half stars.

Banh cuon

Popped by for lunch on a Saturday. Wing Wah js bustling with a constant stream of customers. We ordered the banh cuon and a pho ga. Everything came super fast, and the banh cuon was a massive portion. The chicken in the pho ga was flavorful, and we appreciated that the food came with blanched mung beans (usually raw) and a generous portion of ginger scallion oil. Service was prompt and friendly.

Banh cuon so fresh and tasty!

Decided to try Wing Wah after I found out my usual Pho Ga spot is temporarily closed. I'm so glad I tried them out! Not sure if it's because of the other Pho Ga spot's closure but, I did have to wait about 15 minutes on a Saturday around 1pm. Not a bad wait at all though, and people come and go pretty quickly so if I came like 20 minutes later, I probably wouldn't have had to wait at all. I love that they have Banh Cuon here. It's one of my favorite Vietnamese dishes. It's really good, soft and fresh here, but a little too much rice paper for me. I'd still get it every time I come though because it's the best I've had in East Bay so far! As for the Pho Ga, the noodles and broth were so delicious. I could drink that broth all day every day - good for the soul. I couldn't finish my huge bowl, but I finished all the soup for lunch the next day. By the way, definitely spend the extra dollar to get the large - it is so worth it! Two meals for $15 is such a steal in today's economy - and for such tasty and healing food too! The only downside was the bone-in chicken was a little on the tougher side. I'd probably try the shredded chicken version next time to see if it's softer. I added chicken gizzards too and surprisingly they were actually so soft! Definitely better than any other Pho Ga gizzards I've had. All in all, I'm glad I got to try Wing Wah and I'll be back for sure, especially since Winter is upon us. Oh one other thing worth mentioning is this is the first place I've seen have lettuce as a mix-in for the pho - usually it's just bean sprouts? I personally will ask them to pass on the lettuce next time because boiled romaine isn't exactly my favorite way to have romaine, but the bean sprouts are delish.

Banh cuon and a chicken

This is the best place to get banh cuon in the bay. They are not skimpy with the filling and it's seasoned well. Add the fish sauce and perfection We also usually get the full chicken. It comes with the ginger scallion sauce which just takes it to the next level. Great pricing. Street parking so we usually call ahead and do pick up. Avoid lunch hours if you can cuz they get busyyyy.

Bun cuon and shredded chicken with ho fun pho.

The food here is really good. I ordered the shredded chicken pho with ho fun noodles and bun cuon. Both are super flavorful and the noodles are nice and chewy. The women working there are so sweet and the food comes quick, which I love. Parking is always easy right in front. There's always lots of people coming and going. There are about 8-9 tables inside and there's a small bathroom. It's not the fanciest but it's clean and the food is so comforting and fresh. Can't wait to go back!

So delicious! Can't beat a bowl of fresh chicken noodle soup for $13.00! The chicken is fresh and the ginger oil is made right. Some places add sugar to their oil and I'm not a fan of that. It's a big bowl and you can easily share the regular size bowl. I love that they give you a lot of broth so you slurp or drink it. Be sure to ask for a side of the fresh chili to add a kick! They only offer sriracha at the table for spicy condiment. Also, love the fresh steam rice roll with ground pork. It comes with fresh Asian herb and salad. Service: quick and nice people Tip: cash is king Parking: street only

The best banh cuon in the bay
Hoyan L.

The BEST banh cuon in the Bay. If you're looking for banh cuon, this is it right here at Wing Wah. The rolls have the perfect texture, soft, filled with pork and wood ear mushroom. The outer skin is thin but they are not falling apart. Paired with the fish sauce they are sooo good!! An order comes with 10 rolls, so pretty great portion size. Their pho ga is also so delicious and comforting. We got the half chicken ($16) along with a large size ho fun ($8.50) for pick up and it still held up really well at home. The pick up order was nicely packaged with all bean sprouts, romaine lettuce, and herbs. The chicken is full of flavor, juicy, and the ginger scallion sauce is perfect. I love the thin ho fun noodles, they are fresh and soft and tender. If you're in area or just looking for a good bowl of noodles, definitely come to Wing Wah!

TL;DR: very good value and very tasty food, street is kinda ghetto but parking is not difficult Saw really good reviews on Yelp for this place so we decided to check it out so we could get both Vietnamese style Hainan chicken rice AND banh cuon! I never say no to banh cuon when I see it in the menu. Service was decent and the food came out pretty quickly even though the restaurant was quite crowded. Lots of old people so you know it's legit. Restaurant is old but well maintained. Banh cuon: one of the best I've had in the east bay - the rolls were well put together and structurally sound. Filled with a generous amount of ground pork and mushrooms, and went deliciously with the fish sauce. Yum! Hainan chicken rice: there were two types of chicken rice on the menu and I didn't really know what the difference is. The chicken was very flavorful, and tasted like free range chicken that you get in southeast Asia. The rice was also quite tasty but the soup was a bit of a letdown. The ginger scallion sauce they served it with was fire. Every table in the restaurant had at least one plate of this chicken rice or just a plate of chicken so you know it's a must order. Chicken pho / pho ga: the soup in this was pretty flavorful, better than the soup served with the rice. It used the same chicken so was delicious, and the veggie plate they served alongside was pretty generous. Everything was a decent price, and very good value. I would definitely go back for the banh cuon

Chicken Gizzards, Pho Ga and Banh Coun are a must order at this restaurant. I've only been here a handful of times and these dishes were so yummy every visit. I tried the Bun Rieu recent visit and was very satisfied. Banh Coun is probably what everyone raves about and the dish is really good indeed. Takeaway Banh Coun is just as good but should be consumed hot and fresh ASAP. Service at this restaurant is very basic but very nice and generous, especially if you are packing food to go and requesting for extra sauces:) Highly recommended and will be coming back!

Full transparency I've known the owner since I was in HS. She is the nicest! As soon as we came in, we told them how many people and they brought us hot tea. Oh yes! That's good. :-) My dad and I came for banh cuon and bun rieu. Wow, we were both slurping up the soup because it was light, clear and delicious. The banh cuon is also yummy - they are tightly rolled and filled with minced stuffing. The best part is the nuoc mam is on point. She serves it with lots of chopped chilis. The prices were affordable. Without tip, it was $24 for dad and me.

Came in on a Friday afternoon, not too many customers. Service was prompt, which was great considering she was the same person serving the cooked food out. Interior was nothing fancy, typical small kinda hole in the wall Asian spot. Complimentary hot tea & I ordered the chicken noodle soup with ho fun noods, added gizzards for additional $2 I think. Came with a side of the ginger scallion, lemon, & blanched bean sprouts. Soup was good, tiny bit salty. Lots of noodles! Decent amount of chicken & it was super moist. Lots of bones pieces tho, I usually like the meaty breast pieces with this chicken. Gizzards tasted a little more gamey than I'm used to: $16 total, guess that's expected nowadays. I'd give it a 3.75/4 outta 5. Give it a try if you're in the area!

The pho, the rice plate and the bun were delicious! It's been a while since I enjoyed these dishes…read moreso much that this will now be my go to place and my recommended place for these entree. The pho was right on. Piping hot soup that didn't cool down until after you're done even on a cold day. That's just perfect for the wintery weather. The soup was so good - the right amount of aromatics and the beef flavor. And it wasn't overly oily. The amount of meat to noodle ratio was perfect, and I would even dare say I felt there was a lot of meat for a regular bowl of pho that I didn't end the pho with just noodles but had meat to go to the last bite. The rice plate, where we had pork chop with fried spring rolls was yummy! The pork chop was well seasoned that my kids ate it without complaining anything about it. Some places use black pepper and even too much of it to potentially cover up for lack of flavor or perhaps low quality meat. The fried spring rolls were delicious and not too oily either. The bun though with good amount of fresh greens was still a very filling bowl with the amount of meat, spring roll and noodles. The taste of it with the fish sauce was reminiscent of bun in Vietnam. The only thing that ok instead of being amazing was the marinated fried chicken with sauce as it was on the spicier side with the fresh chili and the marinate didn't seem to penetrate into the chicken well enough. Service was reasonably fast, but then again we were there before the restaurant filled up starting at 7pm.

Affordable and delicious pho. Definitely recommend this humble and tasty location…read more I will be back soon!
