The food was ok. But the aggressively tip seeking waiter had me taking my food home to finish eating dinner. From the beginning the waiter was oddly intrusive. We had a hard time ordering because he kept trying to explain things in broken English. We'd eaten there before, we have no problem ordering by menu number when a waitstaff speaks little English. After a long series of confusions we managed to order. Then my friend wasn't feeling well and asked for a to go box while I was still eating. Ooops. Our waiter came with an array of boxes and wanted to pack everything up. He couldn't understand my asking him to please leave the boxes and leave us alone please. I refused to let him box up my dinner, so he left and came back with the POS machine, cradling it lovingly with its list of tips, 20% basic ok, 25% good service, 30% if you reeeally loved his excellent service. Since tips were 15% for decades, and 10% in Calif when I waitressed, the same tip percentage raises the waiter's income as the cost of food increases with inflation. I do leave 18% since it's now customary, 20%+ on occasion. So I asked for the receipt to see the amount before tax and calculate manually, but he had only a hand scribbled total. His eager greed had the POS machine quivering in his palms, jellifying my brain, I gave up and entered a rough low estimate. Went home and reheated my dinner. Pho King serves my favorite Bun Bo Hue in the East Bay, which I loved even before their relocation. This is my first time coming to dine in as I've always enjoyed it at home with a takeout order. The space is a lot bigger and there's plenty of parking outside in the lot. Nearby Lake Merritt so just be aware of your surroundings. #18. Bun Bo Hue: comes a little spicy as is, but the broth is super flavorful and the meat to noodle ratio is good for me. I usually opt for a size small by myself but the large was good for me to share with one other person. Again, this is my go-to spot for a bun bo hue and it's still just as tasty as when I heat it up on the stove at home. A16. Papaya Salad: very flavorful, I personally would get the shrimp next time but the beef jerky added more flavor to the already salty dish (my preference). #60. Com Suon: pork chop was super yummy + I like to chew on the bone! The whole plate for $20 was IMO not a bad deal for the portion - extra $1 for the over easy egg. We didn't want broken rice so we just got normal. Their nuoc mam/fish sauce also has a lot of depth so it went super well with everything on the plate. I do wish there were cucumbers/more veggies! Overall satisfied those Vietnamese pork chop cravings. Service was perfect for me. They came quick to take our orders and also close out our bill + hand us to-go boxes, but also left us alone for the majority of the time to enjoy our meal. It needs to be hot enough so when you add in the sides, it stays hot. The coffee was okay, but had a strange aftertaste. I ate half of it and gave up. Meeting at the popular Pho King for lunch, I noticed a few other cool establishments in the bizz center while parking like Merritt Cocktail House and Rise and Grind Coffee. I already loved them when they were still in that tiny little space close to E14th. Their Pho has always been stellar and I also like the vermicelli bowls. But I always come for the pho. The husband, who is not a soup lover, is usually happy with his rice plate. The last time, his chicken as well as the rice was a bit dry. But my daughter loved her chicken noddle soup. I have eaten here once before some time ago. So I needed to refresh my memory. On this occasion at lunch hour, it was near capacity lucky there was a table for me. Browsing the menu before hand, I had an idea what I wanted to have. Whenever I see Banh Xeo, I must have that and fresh spring rolls with shrimp and pork. For beverage I had the fresh lemon soda. The drink came after all the was delivered. The spring roll came out cold, cut in half stuck together. It made me think it was prepared hand. They were fine with the peanut sauce. The Banh Xeo was hot and crispy and can be quite messy when hand wrapped with the lettuce, leaves, pickle daikon and carrot then dripped or fish sauce applied. It was flavorful and enjoyable. Highly recommended. Service was sufficient to take order and food delivery, not attentive as that's not their experience offering. It's their food. And their dishes are priced reasonably. Pho King has always provided my group 5 star service. The servers are very attentive, in particular the owner, who always has a smile on his face and has gone the extra mile to ensure that my party is taken care of no matter the size. The restaurant itself is big and scattered out, so you never feel like you're being pushed together with another group of people nor does it ever get too noisy even when they're not too far away. I typically order Pho which has always been my go to meal at this restaurant, but what I enjoy on the side from time to time is there a pork chop or a Vietnamese sandwich. I wish I could recommend meal numbers, but I typically don't memorize them here because I've never had a bad order from them. I think one menu item that is incredibly underrated and should be in the spotlight. Is there Boba. I haven't been to any restaurant that makes it as fresh, refreshing, and naturally flavorful as Pho King. Every time I go there, I can't help but order one. I'm honestly surprised I don't go out of my way just to get a Boba here because there is just that good. I'm not going to say that it's a must have because I love their texture and enjoy also watching them make it from a distance but if you're a Boba fanatic, I highly encourage anyone to give their's a shot. I need to try other dishes, but I just can't stay away from #21 which is the bún thit nuóng cha giò (grilled pork and egg roll with vermicelli). Choice of beverage is fresh lemonade. My lunch was on point - quite enjoyable. The fresh lemonade is tart and refreshing. I should have asked if they serve iced tea. I could have had an Arnie Palmer. This place is a typical pho spot with good options. They're right next to a grocery store and a few other food and boba spots but there's plenty of parking in the lot. They have a decent sized indoor seating and a couple of spots outdoor, just be careful when you leave because it's a cars blind spot as they drive by. Spring rolls: a refreshing appetizer that comes with the traditional peanut dipping sauce. If you have a peanut allergy, let them know, no sauce. The rest of the spring roll is fine with both shrimp and pork in it. It says 4 rolls but it's really only 2 cut in half. Pho (any): it's a decent pho for its price. It's on the cheaper side which I like and they do have a small option which is rare to find nowadays. It's your average pho bowl with tender meat. Their broth was a little bit bland but that might have just been me. Dry Noodles: I usually get this when I'm not in the mood for pho and it's my favorite here. The soup comes on the side and it's a bit more fish saucy and full of flavor. The noodles are vermicelli with some squid, shrimp, fish balls, and pork meat bits. It's topped with green onion, cilantro, bean sprouts and crispy dry garlic. On the side is a hoisin sauce type situation where you mix or don't depending on your preference, I love it with it. Mix well and enjoy. You pay at the front when you're ready. Just give them your table number. Everyone is really nice and I do recommend coming here for your pho needs. read more

Ordered the A1 on the appetizer menu, and some shrimp spring rolls. The appetizer's were delicious and the A1 ( Vietnamese fried pancake with shrimp ) was a new thing I tried and boy was that shit fire!!! I ordered the #11 pho size large and my homegirl ordered a size medium and they came out with 2 medium bowls. I ordered the "special chicken soup" and an extra order of chicken. It was all 95% skin, fat, and bones. I don't know where they buy such undernourished chicken, but I found almost nothing edible from it and had to throw it all out. The shrimp spring rolls had shrimp sliced thin (unreal) and wrapped in a thin sheet of gray fatty beef. Horrible! Had to toss that out too. So this was 50 dollars for broth and sticky noodles.
